Episode 51: How to Help Romance Bloom Part 2
In the city of Inkwell, Cuphead and Red Rose are walking down the sidewalk as they hold each other's hand.
"So Cuphead, what's the plan?" Red Rose asks.
"I was thinking we can go out for some lunch at a restaurant and go to the Inkwell Pier to play some games and go on rides," Cuphead answers.
"That sounds like fun," Red Rose says.
"Yeah. I heard they got the Ferris wheel fixed so we can ride it," Cuphead says.
"That will be nice," Red Rose says.
"Great. Now then, I know a great place to have some lunch. I just know you're going to love it," Cuphead says.
Cuphead and Red Rose continue to walk down the sidewalk together. Unknown to the two, Mugman peeks out from behind the mailbox and sees Cuphead and Red Rose walking together.
Mugman happily sighs, "Ain't that so sweet. My brother is already taking Red Rose out."
Then shakes his head, "Calm down Mugman, you're just going to keep an eye on them and make sure their time together goes well. And assist Cuphead when needed."
"Needed for what?" A familiar voice speaks up.
Mugman turns his head to see Ms. Chalice in her ghost form.
"Oh, hi Chalice. What brings you here?" Mugman says.
"Eh, been floating around. And I notice you hiding behind a mailbox," Chalice answers.
Then asks, "Whatcha up to?"
"Well, I'm going to secretly help Cuphead," Mugman answers.
"With that?" Chalice asks.
Mugman lifts his finger and points forward, and Chalice turns her head to see what he's pointing at. Chalice sees Cuphead and Red Rose walking together as they hold each other's hands.
Chalice soon grasps on what's going on, "Well well, looks like Cuphead has finally decided to ask Red Rose out, and it's just going to be the two of them."
"Um yeah. I want to help Cuphead with time with Red Rose, but I feel like I'm kind of meddling," Mugman says.
"Eh don't worry, you're just going to give Cuphead a hand if he needs help," Chalice says.
She snaps her fingers with a smile, "Tell you what, I can tag along with you. That way we can keep an eye on the two love birds and maybe also set the mood for them."
"Great," Mugman says, happily, "But remember, we can't step in unless it's needed, and we can't let Cuphead and Red Rose know we're keeping an eye on them."
"Got it," Chalice says and winks her eyes.
Then Chalice changes into her physical form, "Now come on, we don't wanna lose them."
Chalice and Mugman then hurry to catch up with their friends.
Moments later, Cuphead and Red Rose arrive at a restaurant. It's the same restaurant they went to during the Devil's Pitchfork fiasco, but they're able to walk inside without any problems. Inside the restaurant, Cuphead and Red Rose are sitting at a table having some spaghetti and meatballs together. At another table, Mugman and Chalice cover their faces with the menus hiding from the two friends and decide what they're going to eat.
Mugman takes a peek and says, "So far so good."
"Yeah. Seems that their little date is working like a charm," Chalice says.
Mugman and Chalice continue to watch to see Cuphead and Red Rose are still having their lunch. When they reach for the final piece of french bread, they end up touching each other's hand by mistake. They soon realize it and pull their hands back.
"Sorry Red Rose," Cuphead says.
"No. I'm sorry," Red Rose says.
Cuphead blushes and gently pushes the last slice of bread to Red Rose, "Uh you can have it if you like. I've already got three slices and a plate of spaghetti."
"Sure," Red Rose answers with a giggle. "Thank you, Cuphead."
Cuphead smiles as his cheeks are turning red, and the liquid in his head begins to bubble out hearts with a smile.
"So uh, Red Rose, how are things going with your parents? I'm sure you must be having a good time with your family since your father is back," Cuphead says.
"Yeah. Of course, my parents are also doing what they can to make up for lost time. Same with me and my mom," Red Rose says.
"Really?" Cuphead asks.
"Yeah. They started to spend so much time together, I hardly saw them. Not that I blame them. They're married and have been separated for years until I ended up on the isles," Red Rose says.
Cuphead sighs with a smile, "Yeah. I remember the day that you and I first met."
"I remember it very well," Red Rose says.
With that, Cuphead and Red Rose remember the day they first met.
Flashback:
Cuphead notices something, "Hey Cuphead, look over there."
Mugman looks ahead to see a boat at shore, "A boat? What's a boat doing here?
"Let's go check it out," Cuphead says.
The two brothers hurry over and look in the boat. They look inside to see the young girl sleeping in the boat.
"It's a girl?" Cuphead says, confused.
"It is a girl, but what's she doing here?" Mugman asks.
"Is she alive?" Cuphead asks, concerned.
He then climbs into the boat and leans close to her. Soon, he notices her stomach rising and notices her breathing.
"Hey, she's breathing," Cuphead says, relieved.
Red Rose breaths calmly as she begins to slowly open her eyes and slowly turns her head to see Cuphead staring down at her.
"Morning," Cuphead happily waves his hand to her.
Red Rose groans as she sits up and asks, "Wha-what happened? Where am I?
"You're on Inkwell," Cuphead answers.
Then Mugman asks, "How did you get here?"
Red Rose sits up and answers, "There was a storm last night. My father ship's sail caught on fire and it crashed into some rocks. I ended up getting separated from my father and the rest of the crew when the ship exploded and many of us fell off the boat."
"Yikes, that's awful," Mugman says.
"It's a good thing you ended up here," Cuphead says.
Red Rose sadly sighs, "Yeah, but I'm not sure if my dad or the crew either made it here or ended up somewhere else. I… I'm not sure what to do at this point."
Suddenly, Cuphead has an idea, "I know, you can stay with us."
"Uh Cuphead, are you sure about that?" Mugman asks.
"Yeah. Our place isn't far from here. Well it's a little far, but she does need help," Cuphead says.
Then turns to Red Rose, "Unless you have any family on the Inkwell Isles."
"No. This is the first time I've been here," Red Rose says.
"There you have it. You can stay with us until we can find your dad," Cuhead says.
"I wonder what Elder Kettle will say about this?" Mugman asks.
"Well, we won't know until we ask," Cuphead says.
Then turns to Red Rose, "By the way, I'm Cuphead."
"And I'm his brother, Mugman," Mugman says.
"I'm Red Rose. It's a pleasure to meet you," Red Rose says.
"Don't worry Red Rose, I'm sure Elder Kettle will let you stay," Cuphead says.
Flashback Ends:
"I remember, and despite me being a stranger, you said that I could stay at your house," Red Rose says.
"Yeah. We had so much fun and adventures. And well, yea, sure sure got into trouble, but things worked out in the end," Cuphead says.
"Yeah. And we end up learning a bit about each other," Red Rose says.
Cuphead laughs, "Yeah. I remember the time you were able to beat Ribby and Croaks, and the time you were able to throw a die at King Dice. That was awesome. You're so strong and amazing."
"Thanks," Red Rose says.
Then says, "But let's focus on finishing eating."
"Yeah. The sooner we finish, the sooner we can head to the Inkwell Pier and we can go have some fun," Cuphead says.
And soon, the two continue to have their lunch. And suddenly, a walking man with a gray mustache and gray hair, wearing an apron is playing an accordion as he plays next to the two friends. The two blush to hear that the man is playing some romantic music and simply continue eating as they look at each other with love in each other's eyes.
Mugman and Chalice let out a sigh as the waiter arrived with their food. The two eat as they watch the two having a good time together.
Mugman sighs and says, "That is just so sweet."
"Gotta admit, it's very charming to see Cuphead having his own way to charm himself to Red Rose's heart," Chalice says.
Mugman nods his head with agreement.
Sometime later, after having lunch at the restaurant, Cuphead and Red Rose arrive at the Inkwell Pier to see the rides and games that are set up. Of course, there are also a lot of people at the rides, games, and attractions as well.
"Looks like the pier is packed today," Red Rose says.
"Well, since the snow is clearing up and it's almost spring, people are coming out from their homes to enjoy the pier," Cuphead says.
"You gotta point," Red Rose says.
Cuphead then takes Red Rose's hand and says, "Come on, let's go have some fun."
And with that, the two head out to the pier to have some fun. Close behind Mugman and Chalice arrive at the pier to see Cuphead and Red Rose begin to walk around the pier to have some fun.
"There they go," Mugman says.
"Come on, let's follow before we lose them," Chalice says.
Mugman and Chalice follow the two before they lose them.
The first place they head off to is the gaming area. Cuphead and Red Rose look around to see the new games full of people playing and prizes to win.
"Look there's the skee ball game," Cuphead says.
"Yeah," Red Rose says.
She then turns to Cuphead and says, "How about we have a little competition?"
"Losers buy some cotton candy and churros," Cuphead says.
"You're on," Red Rose says.
And with that, the two then zip to the skee ball game and begin to play. Of course, Cuphead and Red Rose take turns to throw the ball and it lands in the center hole. As they throw the balls, they begin to perform tricks with their throws. And it soon catches the attention of the residence who are playing the games and going on rides. They walk over and begin to watch Cuphead and Red Rose take turns performing tricks and throw the ball into the center hole. Soon enough, Mugman and Chalice find the two to see them having fun.
Chalice is amazed, "Wow! Look at them go!"
"Oh dear, here we go again," Mugman says, and shakes his head.
He then throws his head, "Oh well, at least they're not doing it at the Soul Ball game at that carnival."
"What carnival?" Chalice asks.
"The Devil's carnival," Mugman answers.
Hearing the name has Chalice feeling uneasy and is starting to sweat bullets.
"Uh, did you say, the Devil?" Chalice asks, sounding uneasy."
"Sorry about that. I understand why you felt uneasy about it. Still, I guess we haven't even told you about it," Mugman says.
"So uh, what happened?" Chalice asks.
"It happened sometime after Red Rose came to live with us. Like now, Cuphead and Red Rose were playing a name called Soul ball that is almost like the Skee Ball game. After Cuphead convinced us to go there. None of us realizes that the Devil was using the carnival to collect souls. I kind of accidently bump into Red Rose and she accidentally bumps into Cuphead. They end up losing the game and owe the Devil their souls," Mugman explains.
"Both of them?!" Chalice asks, surprised.
Mugman nods his head in reply.
"That's unbelievable. How do they still have their souls?" Chalice asks.
"We manage to avoid the Devil so he can't take their souls. Now that we know that the soul debts can expire, they no longer owe their souls," Mugman explains.
"That's good to hear. And now they're here to have some fun," Chalice says.
"Yeah. It's good to see that they're having a good time," Mugman says.
The two continue to watch as Cuphead and Red Rose continue to play the skee ball game. And the audience cheers for either Cuphead or Red Rose, or even both of them.
Time has passed, and Cuphead and Red Rose have been playing a few games. One of them is when Cuphead wins a teddy bear and decides to give it to Red Rose. Which is very sweet of him. Chalice and Mugman continue to watch the two as they have some fun playing games and go on rides. Of course, they remember the little contest and at the end, Red Rose ends up being the winner so Cuphead had to buy the cotton candy and churros.
Now, Cuphead and Red Rose are at the line for the ferris wheel. Mugman and Chalice are a few people behind them.
"Okay, it seems that this will be the last place for them to go before they start heading there," Mugman says.
"And so far their day out is working pretty well," Chalice says.
"Yeah. I have to say that they didn't really need our help at all," Mugman says.
"I have to agree. They're able to work this out on their own," Chalice says.
The two look ahead to see Cuphead and Red Rose walk inside the car on the ferris wheel. The ride operator closes the door and controls the ride to continue and allow the next pair to get out of the ride and the other pair to walk in. And soon enough, Mugman and Chalice walk in to enjoy the ride and keep an eye on the two friends.
In their car, Red Rose and Cuphead sit and watch the scenery of the sunset to watch the ride.
"This was the best time I had Cuphead," Red Rose says.
"I'm glad you like it. I know it's a bit sudden, but I'm glad we're able to hang out together and have a great, uh, date," Cuphead says.
"Yeah. I think so too," Red Rose says.
Soon, the two continue to sit and enjoy the ride as they find themselves on the top of the ferris wheel. Meanwhile the ferris wheel operator is watching the ride, but hasn't noticed that inside the control panel, it's starting to show signs of malfunctioning, and finally, the ride has come to a complete stop. The control panels continue to show signs of short circuiting and releasing electricity, causing the people to panic. In their car, Cuphead and Red Rose hear the noise.
"What's going on?" Cuphead asks.
"I don't know. It sounds like people screaming," Red Rose says.
Meanwhile, Chalice and Mugman, who are in their car, look down to see the situation.
"I think there's something's wrong with the controls," Mugman says in a panic.
"Oh, no. That doesn't look good," Chalice says.
And soon enough, the control of the ride explodes, and the Ferris wheel begins to spin around in a circle, and is going faster and faster. Cuphead and Red Rose are surprised, and are soon starting to enjoy it.
"I never knew the ferris wheel could go this fast!" Cuphead says.
"I know! This is awesome!" Red Rose says.
The two begin laughing as they have a good time. However, Mugman is screaming in fear as he hugs Chalice pretty tight.
Chalice rolls her eyes, "Oh brother."
Just then, the car Cuphead and Red rose fly out of the ferris wheel and fly in the air. Then three more do the same. Soon the car Cuphead and Red Rose are on begins to fall out of the sky.
"Hang on, Rose! We're going for a bumpy landing!" Cuphead calls out.
And soon enough, the ride car they're in ends up landing in one of the prize booths. The prizes have been crushed, but having multiple of them in one pile has proven to be useful to break their fall.
"That was awesome!" Cuphead cheers.
"Yeah. It kind of is," Red Rose says.
And then the two start laughing.
Back at the ferris wheel, the ride continues to spin around until it finally comes to a stop. When the ride stops, the car that Chalice and Mugman are in is at the bottom and close to the ground. Of course, Mguman continues screaming and crying.
"Uh Mugman, can you stop screaming now?" Chalice questions.
Soon enough, Mugman stops screaming and looks to see the ride has finally stopped.
"Oh. Uh. I see," Mugman says, and sheepishly giggles.
And in the matter of seconds, the cart falls off and lands on the ground with a loud thud.
Chalice sighs, "Come on, let's go find the others."
"Um okay," Mugman says.
Sometime later, after the fun day they have, Cuphead takes Red Rose home to the Candy Castle.
"Thanks Cuphead, I had a wonderful time today. And thanks for the teddy bear. It's really cute," Red Rose says.
"I'm glad you like it. And yeah, I had a fun time too," Cuphead says.
"I hope we can do it again soo," Red Rose says.
"Yeah. Me too," Cuphead says.
Just then, Cuphead stands on his tippy toes and gives Red Rose a kiss on the cheek. Red Rose blushes and gives him a kiss on the forehead.
Then Red Rose smiles and says, "Bye, have a goodnight."
"Yeah. You too," Cuphead says with a smile.
Red Rose then walks inside her home and the door closes. Cuphead lets out a sigh and heads back home. Unknown to Cuphead, Mugman and Chalice let out a sigh with a smile on their face and are glad to see the two are happy to be together.
