Chapter 52: AirDogs Epic Stunt Spectacular

"Ace! Hey Ace! Over here!" Skye yipped all the way to Ace Sorensen's plane, Amelia with Wings in tow, though he was walking slower and slower the closer he walked to Ace.

Ace spotted Skye and grew a big smile as she jumped down from her plane. Upon her landing, Skye jumped up to her as Ace easily caught her. Skye gave her a few licks as her tail wagged frantically.

"Ace! I can't believe you're here!" Skye barked as she flipped off or her arms and back to the ground. "You've come to watch me fly!"

"Of course I did Skye." Ace chuckled. "As soon as I heard that the Mighty Wings were returning, I just had to make my way down here."

"Oh this is so awesome." Skye giggled and chirped "I've spent my whole life watching you and now this time, it's the other way around!"

"Yeah. That you know of." Ace chuckled with a wink.

"Huh? Wait what?" Skye shook.

"Oh hey! You must be Skye's brother, Wings." Ace pointed out.

Skye looked behind her and thought she saw her brother Wings, but due to his stiff manner, she swore it was a different pup.

"A-A-A-A-Ace? Y-Yo-You-You kn-kn-know m-my name?" Wings stammered.

"Well of course I do. I'm actually a big fan of yours along with your sister." Ace cleared.

"Fa-Fa-Fan?! Are you kidding?!" Wings howled. "But I'm a much bigger fan of you!"

"Heh heh. I think I get that." Ace said with a wink.

Wings suddenly shot over nearly pushing Skye a side, gushing like it was Beatlemania.

"No you don't understand. You are my favorite pilot in the world! Ever since I saw your wing walker trick! I've dreamed of one day being at least half as good as you!"

"Strange, I could've sworn I heard someone else say that before." Ace grinned giving a knowing look at Skye who blushed a little.

"You inspired me Ace Sorensen." Wings heartened. "Inspired me to be the pilot I am today, with your awesome tricks and cool style, and now you're here. Here to watch me and my sister performance like we watched you! I couldn't ask for a more golden day than this and…."

Wings completely ran out of breath as he started to hyperventilate.

"You alright bro?" Skye asked with a little concern.

Wings huffed, puffed, and lost complete control of himself. "I think….I think…..I think I'm…..feeling really funny."

Wings woozed as he suddenly fell on his back with his paws straight up and his tongue out. His hind leg twitching as he fainted in front of his sister and his idol.

In a immediate response, Skye burst into uncontrollable laughter. The instance of seeing her cool and cocky brother suddenly die in delight at even the implication.

Turn into the definition of a crazed fanboy was almost too much for her.

However, Ace Sorensen wasn't laughing, as she was giving Skye a knowing smirk along with a chuckle. "Don't laugh too hard Skye. That was you a year and a half ago; in fact, is think you even cried too."

Skye's laughter stopped she suddenly had a strong blush. "Ye-Yeah…I….I know Ace. It's just hilarious to see him of all pups faint like that."

She then locks eyes with the grin and her emotion took full control of her. She jumped up to her again and snuggled in her arms. Tearing up in full joy of Ace being here.

Ace smiled warmly as she held Skye close and hugged tightly. "Aw. It's great to see you too Skye. I was really worried about you."

Skye pulled back and eyed her idol. "You-You were?"

Ace nodded firmly. "Yeah. To be honest I was worried for all of you." Ace's smile then faded. "I…I got wind of what happened to Marshall and I….I wanted to come down here to check on you all. See if you were okay. But…..I was so busy that I wasn't even able to make his funeral. I'm so sorry Skye, I wish I could've been here for you."

Skye formed a small smile. "Aww. Ace. Don't talk like that. It's all good now. I'm sure everyone doesn't hold it against you. Especially me."

Skye then felt a bit of sadness as she thought about the funeral a year ago. "You wouldn't wanted to be here anyway. It was all sad and depression." With a shake of her head though, she had a small smile back on. "But that was a year ago Ace, and were stronger now than we've ever been, and I'm going to show it today. Not just for me, but for everyone else."

Ace couldn't help but give a relieved grin, while also giving a comforting hug. Skye could've sworn though that the hug she was giving also had some love behind it.

"That's s great to hear Skye. I don't even know what I was so worried about." Ace says as she finished the hug and let Skye back down.

It was surreal for her that Ace of all people would even be thinking about her. Even though she included the others, the cockapoo could tell that it was her that the pilot was most worried for. If you told Skye prior to her joining the Paw Patrol that. She would probably die in delight at the implication.

"Ooh man, what happened?"

Skye turned her attention to her brother who was just now coming to.

"You fainted Wings. Right in front of Ace." Skye answered with a giggle.

"Fainted?" Wings gasped. "I fainted in front of Ace Sorensen?!"

"Yeah, you totally did." Skye snickered. "You better get a hold of yourself before you faint again."

"To be honest Skye, that's very hard to do." Wings faltered. "I can barely breathe."

"Like I said Wings, she's a person, not a god." Skye says. "Just keep that in mind. That's what I did."

"She's a person, not a god. She's a person, not a god." Wings repeated over and over.

"Hey, I've got an idea, why don't you sit next to me and watch the show?" Ace suggested.

"Fr-From Amelia herself?" Wings inhaled.

"Why of course, what else?" Ace chuckled.

Wings gasped and started to hyperventilate. Skye grabbed Wings, "Breathe bro. Breathe. Deep breaths. In and out."

Wings did just that, taking very deep breaths while also mumbling over and over. "She's a person, not a god. She's a person not a god."

"You still haven't answered her Wings." Skye grinned. "Would you like to…"

"Of course I will!" Wings yelped out. "I would love to join you and watch the show with you Ace!"

The sudden blurt out nearly knocked Skye off her feet, while Ace gave a sure smile. "That's great! Why don't you head on up there and…"

Wings didn't wait for her to finish as he easily climbed up and into the cockpit.

"He-Hey. Make sure not to touch anything!" Ace let out. As Wings sat with his eyes wide open as he stared at all the buttons and instruments.

"I don't know Ace, He's got those eyes." Skye said with concern.

Ace gave Skye assure smile. 'It's okay Skye. I've got the throttle locked and the wheels are chalked. He can start it up, but he can't go anywhere."

"Huh. Good thinking Ace." Skye commented.

"Yeah." Ace gives a snide look at her. "Learned my lesson from last time someone was in there without me."

"Hey! It was just an accident!' Skye barked. "I just happened to start it up and fly it."

Ace rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "Yeah, and I guess it was also an accident that you brought Amelia back with almost no gas at all."

Skye adverted her eyes a little. "Oh ha ha ha. I…guess I…..did have a little too much fun Ace. I don't think I ever said sorry for that."

"It's all good Skye. You weren't hurt so I can't fault too much for that." Ace chuckled. "You know…..you can join us up there it you want."

"Thanks Ace, but I'm good." Skye respectfully declined. "I sorta want to watch the show with Chase."

"Oooh." Ace popped and eyebrow with a grin. "I see. You care about him, than me now huh?"

"Wh-What? N-No. Nothing like that! Just…."

"Cool it Skye. I'm just joshing you." Ace snickered. "I can't be more happy for you and Chase."

"Ladies and gentlemen! My name is Judy Banks and I would like to welcome you all to our Airshow this afternoon."

Loud cheers and howls sounded off from the other side from dogs and people alike as Judy Banks stood in the middle of the field.

"Yes I know you all are excited at what our pilots has in store for you. The AirDogs Epic Stunt Spectacular will begin in exactly ten minutes from now!"

Even louder howls and cheers sounded in response to Judy's announcement.

"Now I would like to take the time to get the boring stuff out of the way. First of all, as much as we care for the safety of our pilots, we care even more for our audiences' safety. So I ask that you do keep that in mind as you watch the show! You can stand, you can cheer, you can jump up and scream till your hearts content, but please with a cherry on top, do not rush the field at anytime during the show! Trust me, our pilots perform better when they're not dodging anyone who wants to be so close to the action as possible, so for your safety, please do not pass the cones that are placed around the field. With that, we can assure everyone of you are safe and sound! Alright now that that's out of the way, we are ten minutes away from the most spectacular airshow anyone's ever seen!"

The crowd explodes as Judy walks off the field, waiting patiently for the show to start. Around that time, Skye noticed Ryder entering the fray, along with Rocky who just got done helping Mr. Porter with his makeshift fruit stand.

Skye wagged at Ryder's arrival, but stopped when she noticed someone missing. "Where's Rubble? Is he coming."

Ryder solemnly shook his head. "Sorry Skye. No dice on Rubble."

The cockapoo's ears dropped along with her heart. "He-He doesn't want to watch me?"

"It's not that he doesn't want to Skye, he just feels that he can't." Ryder explained. "He really wants to be there for Skylar."

Skye whimpered in response. This was not only a big show for her, but for everyone else. She wanted to give the best show ever to lift everyone's spirits up from the depths, but now she won't be able to lift at least one up for sure.

Ryder petted Skye for comfort. "He is sorry Skye. You know he doesn't mean to disappoint you. Right?"

Skye whimpered some more as Ryder continued to pet her. She then gave Ryder a sure nod.

"If you ask me, he should be here for you." Rocky sounded off. "Not off chasing his heart."

Skye and Ryder give Rocky an appalled glance.

"What? It's my opinion!" Rocky says dryly.

It was then that another voice was heard. Skye recognized it and it made her face light up. At least Chase was still here to watch her with no problems.

"Ryder! Ryder! We've got a problem!" Chase calls as he went up to him.

Or maybe she spoke to soon, and Chase has to step away. No. Please no. After he promised he'd stay?

"Uh oh. What is it Chase?" Ryder asked.

Skye glared at Chase on her toes. Hoping it was something small. However, by the looks of Chase's manner, it looked as serious as a heart attack.

Chase was finally going to reveal what it was but when he eyed Skye, he notably hesitated. He stopped running as his eyes were trembling at her.

"Well Chase? What is it?" Ryder asked again.

Skye closed her eyes and bowed her head. Waiting for the inedible.

"Well…It's…uh." Chase faltered while still eyeing Skye. He shook his head and looked at Ryder. "It's-It's Mayor Humdinger sir. He's here at the show."

Skye eyes shot wide open with a loud gasp. "N-No. You're kidding."

Chase solemnly shook his head. "No Skye, I'm not. He's here, and my nose is already suffering for that." He then sniffs as it was his allergies trying to take hold again.

"Mayor Humdinger? Isn't he that guy who tried to sabotage our show the last time?" Wings asked from atop Amelia.

"Yes Wings. The very same. I thought to tell you immediately Ryder sir." Chase revealed.

"No-No! He can't here! Not today! Not today!" Skye yelped. The last thing she wants is one of the Mayor's schemes to ruin the big show. "What do we do Ryder?! What do we do?!"

"Skye it's okay." Ryder said as he got down to her and gently held her front less to calm her. "Hey. Hey. It's going to be fine. I already knew he was coming."

"What? You-You did?" Skye questioned.

"Yes. Mayor Goodway told me she invited him here." Ryder answered.

"Wh-What?! Why would she do that?!" Skye yelped again. "That's like letting a rhino loose in Adventure Bay! He could be up to something Ryder."

"Now Skye. It's not good for us to make assumptions like that." Ryder said with a slight stern. "He could be here to just watch the show."

"Yeah right." Rocky slurred. "Nothing good ever happens when Mayor Humdinger is in town."

Ryder rose to his feet and eyed his pups "Look. I know you all are concerned about Mayor Humdinger. Quite frankly, I'm a little worried myself."

"Then what are we going to do Ryder?" Skye asked. "We can't just let him be and expect the best."

"We won't Skye, but we can't do anything until something does happen." Ryder informed. "For now, all we can do is keep an eye on him."

"Yes Ryder sir. You can count on me." Chase sounded off.

Ryder look at Chase with a smile. "Thanks Chase, but no. I can't have you strictly keep an eye on him, while also paying attention to everybody else. That's too much on you. Not to mention, Your allergies may hinder you."

Chase groaned as his ears dropped. "Yes Ryder sir."

"I could do it." Rocky volunteered.

"Sorry Rocky, not you either. You need to stand by in case one of the planes need fixing, and with Rubble occupied, that only leaves one pup for the job. Zuma."

"Oh no! I forgot! I left him with Katie handling ticket stubs!" Chase yelped. "I need to get back there!"

Chase turned to get the front, but Ryder called out to him. "Hold on Chase, you may not need to." He then brings up his pup pad and calls Zuma. "Zuma? You there?"

"Yes siw Wydew." Zuma answered.

"What's your position bud?" Ryder requested.

"Ovew hewe with Katie Wydew. Helping her with the tickets. Chase was hewe eawliew, but he had to step away." Zuma replied. "I'm stawting to get wowwied Wydew."

"Chase is okay Zuma. He's with me right now. Are you bout done?" Ryder asked.

"Almost Wydew. We've got a few left." Zuma informed.

"Good, because I've got an important job for you." Ryder instructed.

"You do? Oho oooo. What is it? What is it Wydew?" Zuma asked with excitement.

"Chase just told me that Mayor Humdinger is here at the show. I need you to find him and keep an eye on him throughout the show." Ryder requested. "Can you do that for me?"

"I suwe can Wydew!" Zuma barked.

Ryder smiled. "Good Zuma. Let me know of any suspicious activity from him. Got it?"

"Got it Wydew. I won't let you down." Zuma replied.

"You never do Zuma." Ryder said, as he ended the call.

"Ryder, not to discredit Zuma, but he's only one pup. Won't it be much for him if something does happen?" Skye pointed out.

"He just has to keep and eye on him Skye." Ryder assured. "Once he gets a hint that something's up we'll spring onto action."

Skye moaned a little as her nerves were still unsettled. She then felt her shield's comforting assurance as he nuzzled her.

"It'll be okay Angel. Nothing's going to happen. Especially with me in charge of security." Chase warmed. "I'll nip it in the but before becomes a problem."

Skye smiled at her shield. "Yeah. I guess I am being such a worry wart."

"Alright ladies, gentlemen and dogs alike, the AirDogs proudly presents to you, The AirDogs Epic Stunt Spetacular!"

The crowd roared in response to the announcement, as all eyes were now on Judy Banks in the middle of the field.

"Yeah, we hear you. We've been waiting to come back to Adventure Bay for a while now, and we've got a great show for you today to prove it! Including the long-awaited return of the Mighty Wings, featuring Adventure Bay's own Skye from the Paw Patrol!"

The crowd grew louder as everyone was cheering and jumping along with some signs in the air with most of them welcoming Skye back.

"I can see you all can't wait to get started but before we do, we've got a few words from Adventure Bay's Mayor Goodway!"

The cheering died down with the mayor was presented the microphone.

"Why thank you Miss Banks. On behalf of all of Adventure Bay, we couldn't be more excited to see your show today, why Chickaletta could barely keep her excitement in her wittle wittle wings."

The chicken clucked a few times while also flapped it's wings.

The mayor quickly cleared her throat. "A-Anyway. I don't to take up too much time, so I'll make this brief."

Skye smirked and shook her head. Knowing full well that keeping it brief was a challenge for her as the mayor could meander a bit.

"I just want to say how proud I am of everyone here in Adventure Bay. We've had a pretty eventual year for us and I know it's been hard on me as well as it's been for all of you. We may not be a vibrant city, but we are just as strong, if not more."

A quick pop came for the residents of Adventure Bay, prompting the mayor to wait and see before she went on.

"Ah yes, I know you all are too. For those of you who are visiting form out of town, I would like to welcome you all formally and implore you to see what all this town has to offer. With that being said, I won't hold up the show much longer and will now hand It back over to Miss Judy Banks!"

The crowd erupted in cheers and howls again as the mayor handed the mic back over to Judy.

"Thank you, Mayor Goodway, for that special message. Give it up for Adventure Bay's Mayor Goodway!"

A few whistles sounded off in response before Judy went on with the show.

"Alright, I say It's time to do away with the boring stuff, and finally let these pilots take to the skies, what about you?!"

The crowd erupted in louder cheers but were soon taken over by the sound of a plane starting up from behind Skye.

"Were going to start off with Duncan and his Sky Dancer!"

"Duncan? I don't think I remember him." Chase admitted

"You wouldn't have. He's the newest pilot on the team. Wings told me he joined a few months after I got out." Skye informed. "Says he can turn the sky into a dance floor with his plane."

"Dancing? In the sky? This I gotta see." Chase says with a little doubt in his voice.

"Your telling me?" Skye replies as she watched the plane come into view while the song 'Stayin Alive' started playing through the speakers.

In line with the starting beat, the Sky dancer started bobbing left and right to the song. Duncan flew about two hundred feet above the football field, continuing the dance like the plane itself was strutting across the sky.

Well you can tell by the way I use my walk

I'm a woman's man, no time to talk.

Music loud and women warm

I've been kicked around since I was born

When he got to the endzone, he invertedand continued the strut upside down.

"You have got to be kidding me." Chase shook. "He's actually doing it."

"Talk about taking Pup Pup Boogie to the next level." Rocky added.

And now it's all right, that's okay

You may look the other way

We can try to understand

The New York time effect on every man.

Into the chorus, the pilot turned up right and put a little more strut in his moves as he also lowered gradually, decreasing his altitude a little to a one hundred fifty feet.

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother

You're stayin alive, stayin alive

Feel the city breaking and everybody shakin

Stayin alive

Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Stayin Alive, Stayin Alive

Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah

When he got to the fifty yard line, he pulled up into a massive loop while the last line of the chorus was sustained, dropping a cloud trail behind his plane

Stayin Alive

Oh when you walk

He ended the loop right at the last line as his engine roared.

"I guess you can call it more of a Plane, Plane boogie now. Heh Heh. Right?" Skye chuckled. Earning confused looks for everyone at the cringed pun.

"What?" Skye asked.

"Marshall you are not, Skye." Chase shammed although a chuckle did leak out.

As the song entered the second verse, Duncan started strutting across the field again.

Well now I get low and I get high

And when I can't get either I really try

Got the wings of heaven on my shoes

I'm a dancing man, I just can't lose

He inverted his plane again, keeping in beat to the song

You know it's all right, it's okay

I'll live to see another day

We can try to understand

The New York times effect on every man

"I just wonder how he can still hear the song." Rocky mentioned. "No way he can hear it over his plane."

"He probably has earphones or knows when to move or something." Chase deduced.

"You think that's great, you should see him dance to techno. He tears the sky up with that plane of his." Skye turned to see her parents, who were eyeing Duncan in the sky.

"Oh no." Skye breathed as she closed her eyes and leaned into Chase side to make some attempt to hide.

"Oh hey Swift! Arion! I was wondering where you two were." Ryder called to them.

Arion smiles and started to respond, but Swift beat him to the punch.

"No kidding Ryder. I was beginning to think you were hiding from us." Swift smirked.

Skye started to relax a little. Maybe Ryder could advert their attention away from her and Chase.

"What? Nooo. Why would I do that?" Ryder chuckled

"Well, considering what we found out earlier about Skye and her little boyfriend. I wouldn't put it past ya." Swift chuckled some more, making Skye want to slam her face through the dirt.

"Oh…..you know about that." Ryder nervously scratched the back of his neck.

"Oh ho ho yeah. Never thought you would allow anything like that amongst your team." Swift jabbed further.

"Well I assure you two, it wasn't my intention." Ryder replied. Skye wished she was performing right now so she wouldn't be here right now.

"Don't feel embarrassed about it Ryder. You aren't going to get an angry mob out of us." Arion finally spoke. "We have no right to rule over her heart, and it's not like Chase is a bad pup for her to be with. Though he better not hurt my little angel or even a jail cell wouldn't keep him safe from me."

Skye felt Chase's fur stand on end and him on the fence a little. "Just ignore him, Chase. Please ignore him."

Although that was proven to be a challenge for even herself.

It had been over an hour since the show had started and in that whole hour, Chase was really on edge.

He was grateful Skye had caught on to his nerves because he was clearly showing it. Ever since his talk with Stacy Jackson, Marshall, was the only thing that was on his mind.

They were in danger of losing him forever, and he couldn't help but think that the pup was in peril. From the was Stacy sounded, it was like she was really keeping him against his will. Not wanting to go with Stacy not one bit.

Not even the aerial talents of the AirDogs premier pilot, A.C Riley could distract him from his mind. He needed to get to him. Fast. The only thing kept him tethered and that was equally as strong.

He promised on his father's badge that he would be here for Skye. That he would've let his secret mission prevent him form watching her performance. Not only that, but it would really look bad on him if he were to miss his love's big show.

But….it's Marshall…..and he has in trouble he knows that for a fact. If only she knew, if only they all knew what was going on. Then Skye would understand.

"Chase? Chase!"

Chase shook his head and looked at his angel "Y-Yeah Skye?"

Skye was standing with a concerned look. "Wings and I are about to go up. I want you to wish me luck."

"Huh? Oh….yeah, sorry uh….break a leg Skye." Chase smiled, though it was obviously fake.

Skye raised a suspicious brow at him. "Isss something wrong?"

Chase smile faded as he knew his eyes were stiff.

He could tell her. He could tell her right now. Then she would understand, and he could go save his best friend.

But Ryder's resistance was strong in his mind. As much as Chase felt that she should know, he was loyal and never wanted to go against him, even if Ryder could forgive him this one, it just wasn't in his blood.

He thought of a quick way to satisfy Skye's curiosity. "Nothing's wrong Skye. I'm just…..a little nervous about you."

"Nervous? About me up there?" Skye assumed.

"Yeah…I'm just a little worried for you." Chase revealed.

A bright smile formed on Skye's face. "Aw. Chase. Everything will be fine. I promise."

"But what if you mess up?" Chase replied.

Skye went up to Chase and nuzzled him. "If I do, I won't' be scared, because I've got so many others who'll make sure that I'll be okay. To include you, my shield."

"Shield?" Chase repeated.

Skye chuckled. "It's what you are to me Chase. My shied against everything against me. Just like how I'm your angel."

A warm feeling flowed through Chase at that. Although he was using it as a mask to distract her, Chase did have an uneasy feeling of concern for Skye. Especially since this was her first performance after two years.

But Skye assurance and presence alone made him relax, like she does all the time with him. He couldn't be more determined to be her "shield."

"Okay Skye. At least you know what you're doing." Chase smiled. "You go out there and show us what you can do."

Skye wagged with excitement and gave one quick lick to Chase before rushing off with her brother.

Chase's smile faded as soon as she turned around. He turned to his owner who too was watching Skye bound off with a smile. When he noticed Chase looking at him, Ryder's smile shepherd and kneeled.

"Hey bud. You're not that worried about Skye are you?" Ryder asked.

Chase solemnly shook his head. "It's….It's not Skye Ryder sir. It's….something else."

"What is it Chase?" Chase asked.

"It's Marshall Ryder. I….I think he's in trouble." Chase revealed.

"Trouble? What sort of trouble?" Ryder inquired.

"I ran into Stacy before the show. She told me that after the show, she's moving to Adventure City and Dally's going with her." Chase whimpered. "No matter if Dally wants to or not."

There was a few moments of silence until Judy's voice was heard through the speakers.

"Everybody give it up for AC Riley and her plane, Air Control!"

A batch of cheers and howls came from the crowd as the plane in question roared by one more time.

"Alright, coming up next is what we all been waiting for and that's the return of the Mighty Wings."

Even louder cheers sounded at the mention of the duo. Chase looked tot the field, waiting to spot his angel in the air. Then, Ryder spoke up.

"Are you absolutely sure he's in trouble?"

Chase looked back at Ryder and saw a determined look in the boy's eyes. "Yes-Yes Ryder, I'm sure."

With a short breath, Ryder replied with…

"Go get him Chase."

Chase snapped his head back in surprise. "Huh? Get him?"

"You heard me, Chase." Ryder replied softly. "You need to go get him now."

"But Ryder, what about Stacy?" Chase questioned. "What if she shows…."

"If you hurry up now, you won't have to deal with her at all." Ryder added. "We have to get him now before we lose our chance."

"But what about what you said yesterday about him…"

"Chase, there's no time to ask these questions." Ryder pushed with subtle authority. "If what you say is true, I don't think he'll have any resistance to you. He needs your help Chase."

That's what Chase needed to hear. However, there was still one thing on his mind as he takes a quick look at the field and back at Ryder.

"What about Skye? I promised her I'd watch her show. She'll never forgive me if I miss it."

A few more seconds of silence until Ryder finally answered. "I know you have your word Chase, but trust me, I think she'll give you this one."

The green light went off in Chase's head. He gave Ryder a quick nod before he took off to his cruiser. Once he got in it and started it up, he mashed the gas and headed for Dally's house.

"Hang on Marshall, I'm coming."
