05x04, 'Sons of the Harpy'

Daenerys is in a pleasant mood for the first time in a while. Daario has gone to retake Yunkai. Grey Worm and the Unsullied are working hard to keep the peace. Ser Barristan provided her with sage advice and a glimpse into a family history she's never known anything but fire and blood about.

Rhaegar liked to sing for the common folk. Ser Barristan paints a picture of someone from the Age of Heroes, a romantic figure from the stories for the princesses. Not the animal who stole and raped Lyanna Stark.

There's a beast in every man. She hears the echo of Jorah's voice and pushes it aside.

Yes, she thinks furiously, and you were as much of a beast as the rest of them, weren't you? Couldn't wait to sink your claws in and rip me apart.

Jorah doesn't deserve a second thought. She has all the friends she needs around her now. Ser Barristan can easily fill his role.

But the seasons always change, even if sometimes they can last for years. And the summer of Daenerys' short reign comes to a horrific and bloody end when Red Vole bursts in to bring the news of Ser Barristan's demise.

Winter has arrived, strangling the last vestiges of serenity from her weary bones.
