07x04, 'The Spoils of War'
She receives the setbacks one after another, like blocks falling in quick succession, deathly blows to her claim.
The Greyjoy fleet emaciated. The Dornish gone. Highgarden eliminated. Her only three Westerosi allies forever lost to her. She has no one else apart from a Lannister who is hated just as much as the rest of his family and a spymaster who changes allegiance with the wind. Jon Snow isn't interested in anything other than excavating the dragon glass that lies beneath Dragonstone, and she has no one else to turn to. There has been no news on Jorah; Varys' network of intelligence hasn't dug up any information on him. Gods, how she wishes he was here with her now. He would know exactly what to do. She can't deny that Tyrion has a good brain, but he isn't a soldier. He doesn't understand warfare in the way that a soldier would. Jorah might have been able to give her some insight into how to do things differently, of the pitfalls that could have lurked in their way.
But she has no one left to rely on. Only herself. As it has frequently been over the past few months.
She storms away, paying only cursory heed to Jon's Snow's words, mounting Drogon. Her child roars and flexes his wings, evidently eager to take to the skies. He and his brothers don't seem to enjoy Westeros all that much. They're restless, banking the cliffs around their fortress home, looking back across the Narrow Sea to Essos. She has the sudden urge to turn Drogon in that direction now; Viserion and Rhaegal would follow without question. She could return to Dragon's Bay, continue her good work there.
But Jorah might head for Westeros if he hears she's here. And she wouldn't want to miss him.
And she has some very important business to take care of with Tyrion's family.
The Lannisters might always pay their debts, but the Targaryens rain fire and blood, and she knows which one is more dangerous.
