09x08, 'King's Landing'

It seems impossible that Westeros can be at peace.

The stories from across the Narrow Sea had travelled like wildfire from one tongue to the next. The War of the Five Kings, the north's rise and fall, King Joffrey 's horrifying demise at his own wedding, the Sept of Baelor's destruction, young King Tommen's suicide, Mad Queen Cersei's ascension to the throne.

He remembers what he'd told Daenerys all those years ago, in a dusty tent: the common people pray for rain, health, and a summer that never ends. They don't care what games the high lords play.

They have suffered most, as they always do when war comes. Daenerys hopes she can put a stop to that once and for all.

In the few days that have passed since Daenerys' takeover of the city, the commonfolk have hidden away in their houses, evidently fearing that they might become dragon fodder should they be brazen enough to peer out of their nests.

Rather than being frustrated, Daenerys shows only patience. It will take them some time to believe that the worst is over, she says. But as the days go by they'll begin to understand.

There are so many celebrations already in the planning. Soon members of the great houses will flock to King's Landing to pledge fealty to the new queen; decisions will be made about those who opposed her. A new era is upon them all, one where rich and poor alike can prosper.

Daenerys dresses now to make her daily excursion around Flea Bottom, letting her people see her, perhaps make the braver amongst them curious enough to approach. Jorah keeps Heartsbane strapped to his side just in case, but is careful to wear boiled leather rather than armour so as to not make them fearful that they will be massacred in their own streets.

She smiles up at him as they descend the stairs from the Red Keep.

"Are you ready?" she asks him.

"Aye, my queen," he responds, and together they make for the bowels of the city.

And there will be harmony at last.
