Chapter 10: fight the impossible
It was new day and the city of South Gotha is celebrating a holiday called the Silver Pentecost; fireworks were being used, stores were making business and civilians are partying with the soldiers on the streets
As for me... I was alone with my sword strapped onto my back sighing at what happened with Louise yesterday
"I'm surprised you did that partner" Derflinger spoke "you fighting against other nobles is common, but your own master...?"
"You forget Derf. I'm human, not a pet" I retorted "she may believe to be above me. But I know she's making excuses to hide faults...just like the other nobles I fought against"
"Sure partner" it agreed "I'll be quiet now since you still have to recover from doing that"
I was now with my thoughts on Louise 'if only you learned by now...' I sighed 'then again, I should've expected that it will take something big for you to see that' before balling my hands tightly 'this war is just an excuse for you to inflate your ego rather than helping your best friend stop it'
"Peter...?"
I looked up to see Henrietta removing her cowl looking concerned
"Oh your highness" I spoke "is something wrong?"
"I was worried" she said sadly "your argument with Louise made me search for you" and placed a hand over her heart "with this war happening...loneliness is the last thing people would want"
I smiled at her concern "would you like to be my company at the moment?"
"I'd like that very much" she smiled
Louise on the other hand was with general Poiter about the next mission she was told, a scouting patrol... the Silver Pentecost was a truce between them as a means to rest from the fighting but the man was paranoid enough to realize the enemy group will make a surprise attack somehow
The void mage nodded and started to walk around thinking on the words Peter said to her
'You said it already' his voice echoed in her head 'honor before feelings'
'Why am I feeling this way?' she thought 'that dog doesn't understand my life!' she gritted her teeth slightly 'I should just focus on my mission...!'
When she got her bearings again she was away from the camp and saw two familiar people in the distance. Moving quickly she jumped into a nearby bush and hid there
"What is that dog doing with her highness...!?" she whispered to herself
I was explaining to Henrietta the differences and similarities between our worlds
"I'm surprised that your home has thoughts about preserving the past despite advancing without magic" she said in awe
"It's something that we try to remind ourselves" I replied "to ignore the past is to repeat mistakes" before sighing a bit "sadly we keep ignoring the reminder due to eagerly moving forward"
"I feel the same" the queen of Tristain agreed "even though my kingdom has the right to fight their provokers..." she balled her hands "they do not see that Albion is a victim too thanks to Cromwell's ambition"
I placed my hand on her shoulder "it may not be good Henrietta, but at least the council tried to make up for the misdeeds hidden from you" I reasoned "they want to keep your trust and help the kingdom feel safe"
"Thank you" she smiled "I'm starting to feel a bit better"
Louise shook at seeing her best friend be casual with her familiar but a thought came
'Considering that Peter is distracted now...' she hummed 'I can go on with my mission without problem!'
The void mage moved quietly to find someone cooperative on the mission she took
A few minutes of talking with the queen helped me ease up from hurting Louise. I looked up to see said person with Julio as they rode his dragon
"Looks like your best friend has another mission" I called before going to her with Henrietta following behind me
Louise sat behind the Romalian with his dragon ready to fly
"So general Poiter gave you a new mission" the queen spoke getting their attention "and Julio volunteered to help"
"You are still focused on honor after what happened?" Peter crossed his arms "and this time you have someone who will listen better"
"I was considering this a date between us" Julio smiled making Louise blush a bit
"It's a mission!" the void mage corrected "a scouting variant..."
"Really?" he raised a brow before waving his arm "then you can go"
"Huh?" she blinked with Julio and Henrietta feeling the same
"You and I aren't in good terms yet" Peter reminded "so being separate will help ease our tensions" and turned to the Romalian "just keep her safe"
"I will" Julio nodded before he and Louise flew to the sky
"I'm surprised you allowed it Peter" Henrietta blinked in surprise "I thought you would talk her into staying"
"With Louise enduring years of taunting" I rubbed my eyes "very few people would try to give her chances to change...if this war will open her eyes to something important, then all I can do is protect her from the dangers and hope that she survives"
In the sky, Julio was looking at Louise as she was quiet in the flight
"I'm surprised that he would let you go Louise" he spoke
"Me too" she nodded "I thought he would try to convince ne to not do this"
"Perhaps he does understand you" he suggested
"Maybe..." she hummed "but right now we need to focus. Her highness needs to know what is going on with Reconquista"
"As you wish"
The queen went back to her tent and have a discussion with her general about the next plans leaving me alone again. Considering that today is a holiday, I'll see how everyone is handling the rest in the city
I walked the streets to see people enjoying their time; they were eating, drinking or laughing together...it seems that the citizens welcomed the Tristain army openly, perhaps to show that no hostility was needed
"Peter?"
I blinked at hearing my name. I turned around and got surprised upon seeing a familiar face
"Siesta...?"
I was suddenly wrapped in her arms and the maid was feeling very glad right now
"I'm so happy to see you!" she smiled
"Me too" I rubbed her back "what are you doing in South Gotha?"
"After what happened in Tristain, I decided to help my cousin and uncle with their business" she grabbed my hand "come, I'll introduce them to you to them!" and pulled me to where her other family is and introduce me
Julio and Louise flew over the capital seeing the Reconquista soldiers being calm and no sign of them making movement
"Looks like the enemy isn't planning to attack" the Romalian hummed
"Which makes this suspicious" the void mage narrowed her eyes "go to the castle, there might be plans to fight when this holiday is over"
"As you wish" Julio gripped the reigns and rode his dragon to the location
Inside the building, Sheffield was in a meeting with the general of Reconquista and his soldiers planning with their army
"Surrender?! Have you gone mad...!?"
"I'm not sir, just stating that because it is a possibility"
"We can focus on defense to withstand them, but we lack numbers to attack"
The de facto leader walked to window not thinking of the plans with the army 'this war is coming to a close... and my king has no need to use Albion anymore' she then looked up to see a dragon flying in the sky 'so Tristain thinks on getting information to plan ahead...?'
"Looks like the army isn't planning anything" Julio hummed "let's head back to camp and have you reunite with Peter"
"What makes you say that?" Louise questioned
"Even though that I'm only a transfer student, I've seen him act protective to people even you" he said "and after you made it clear on your goal, he tried to lessen the damage before it could get any worse"
"And your stating this because...?"
"I believe that you are jealous of him" he stated surprising her "he has put himself in danger during the secret attack of the academy and from what I heard about him during the first war against Reconquista. He fought and defeated the traitor Wardes" and then glanced at his partner "you are trying to prove not only the queen but also him that you are capable"
"S-shut up!" she denied "I'm only doing this for the honor of her highness, nothing more...!"
'That only solidifies my statement' he thought before spotting flyers heading his way "looks like we are seen, hold tight Louise" and looked at his dragon "Azuro"
The white dragon roared and started moving suddenly making the void mage scream a bit as she held onto him
"I don't believe it..."
"It's wonderful to see you again Peter!" Scarron smiled before hugging me "I'd never thought you'd be out here...!"
"Nice to see you too..." I groaned before my feet felt the ground "where's Jessica?"
"Right here" said girl was walking into view "I'm surprised that you are here fighting for Tristain"
"I was called by the queen again" I answered "Louise decided to see if she can handle things on her own and gave me the day off"
"Little Louise is in a mission?" the owner of Fairy Inn gasped "will she be okay?"
"She's fine" I waved my arm "that girl has a different partner to help her"
"And you're not worried...?" Jessica raised her brow
"That girl is stubborn" I retorted "I met her family before going into this war, they believe keeping her home is the best course of action" and shook my head "that is...until I challenged Lady Valliere for her freedom"
"Yes, Siesta told us about that" the daughter of Scarron walked toward me "there's something I'd like you to know"
"What?"
Slap!
"Ouch!" I felt my face sting from that while Scarron and Siesta gasped in shock
"That's for doing something unbelievably stupid...!"Jessica shouted "what were you thinking on challenging the Manticore Knight!?"
"Louise's future..." I groaned rubbing my cheek "she may be of noble class, but that doesn't mean her life is meant to be controlled"
"Now, now" Scarron stepped in front of his daughter "Peter is able to survive this conflict, let us help him relax after working hard for our home's safety"
"Fine" she relented "don't think that helping in this war will excuse you from that incident..."
"Believe me, I couldn't change your mind after you knew..." I still felt the sting "why don't we focus on something else?"
"Like what?"
Before I could bring up a topic I heard a voice came from behind me
"Sir Peter?"
I turned around to see none other than Guiche
"It is you!" the earth mage smiled walking toward us "I didn't expect you to be here. How have you been?"
"I'm fine" I nodded "how are you handling the battles after being drafted?"
"It's a lot of work" he scratched his head "normally I would complain about getting hurt in the conflict. But after seeing that the countries won't stop fighting each other...I decided to get myself straight and give my all to keep my home safe" his eyes showed resolve "I've had some close calls but I was able to pull through"
"That's good" I nodded before noticing a medal on his shirt "and you got rewarded for your participation"
"Yes" he smiled "general Poiter awarded me himself for it" before looking at me in the eye "so tell me, what has happened while I was away...?"
"Why don't we have a bite while we converse?" I suggested "it would help us all relax when I reveal them"
Julio and Louise made it back to their camp unharmed with the latter feeling relief from today's mission
"That was unbelievable" she panted "I'd never thought that the soldiers would still have patrols"
"We did go into enemy territory Louise" the Romalian reminded "at least they won't be going after us during the Silver Pentecost" he then hummed "why don't you find Peter and relax a bit, I'll report to her highness and general Poiter"
"Thank you Julio" the void mage nodded 'I wonder if Peter is in South Gotha...'
I finished telling the event of Tristain academy's hidden attack and suffice to say most of my listeners are gaping at me, I looked out the tent saw the sky become night, not hiding the fact Albion resorted to hire mercenaries for an advantage
"I can't believe that happened" Guiche gulped "is Montmorency okay? She's not hurt is she...?"
"Thankfully she was unharmed in that incident and hopes to move on with her life"
"That's good" he smiled "I knew it was the right choice to leave Belldandy with her"
"That reminds me" I hummed "during your time with the army in this war, she decided to try my company"
"Did she enjoy it?" Guiche questioned while Jessica and Scarron leaned in interest while Siesta remained neutral because she has already known this special duel between them
"Oh she did" I smiled "and she hasn't asked for another since"
"Why would Montmorency do that?" the earth mage blinked in surprise
"She didn't say, but I can guess that it wouldn't be fair to you" I smiled "after all, we agreed to give her a good time. And with you being drafted to fight against Albion...her focus would only be directed to me and she will start forgetting about you"
"Then the first thing I will do upon my return is to give my attention to her and only her" he said with a serious tone
'You're changing Guiche' I thought 'Montmorency will smile at how serious you are on wanting her love'
"Peter!" Louise's voice shouted making me jump out of my seat
I turned to see the void mage walking inside the tent
"Ah Louise" I blinked "how was the date with Julio?"
"It wasn't a date!" she shouted again though the red face might say otherwise "why are you here anyway?"
"Considering that our mission together made us lose the dragon's raiment" I shrugged making Siesta and her relatives gasp "I was given no mission to help and decided to check the village Tristain took after Henrietta gave the command after our poor attempt to help" I then gestured to the others with me "and look who is with me"
Louise's eyes widen at the faces she's seen and was given a seat to relax and a plate of food to help her relax from her mission with Julio given by general Poiter
Meanwhile in a different part of South Gotha, Reconquista's general and the army saw the city's illumination in the distance with said person along with a couple of soldiers digging in the snow
"Magistrate Sheffield, is this secret measure a chance to help us fight Tristain?"
The de facto leader of Reconquista smiled as Daido handed her some herbs, he was told to find them during meeting earlier
"Yes it is general" she removed her cowl and the runes on her forehead glowed surprising him and his fellows "this will help you fight against Tristain as the water supply here is connected to South Gotha"
She focused her magic and the herbs she held glowed before dropping them to the hole changing the waters bellow
"What happened?" the general looked up to see Sheffield gone making him look around
"General" the man jumped upon hearing her voice "continue the plan, for this battle will decide who the victor is in the war" she stated "I leave it in your capable hands"
"A fairy saved you...?" I blinked in surprise after Guiche told about his time within the army
"Unbelievable I know" he nodded "but I swear that after getting a fatal wound here" patting his chest "I felt my life slipping away, but then I saw a glimpse of the fairy before passing out" a smile graced his lips "when I opened my eyes again the wounds on my body are gone"
"You must be imagining it thanks to fighting against the enemy" Louise shook her head
"I thought that too but I felt the tears on my shirt, meaning that fairy is out there" he smiled "if I ever him or her again, I would like to thank them for helping me live"
"I'm sure you would" I smiled before looking out the tent again "we better take a rest tonight, it's snowing again"
"Rest is a nice thought" the earth mage stood up "hopefully I will see you again after this war"
"Hopefully" I nodded as he and the others left the tent leaving me with Louise
"Guiche has changed" the void mage spoke "he is a different person now than he was back in the academy"
"And for the better" I turned to Louise "he's fighting something more important than blind honor"
"Blind?" she gritted her teeth "do I have to remind you that a noble's honor is important?!"
"And I'll keep stating that honor is just making you narrow minded" I retorted "if you keep using honor as means to fight, then you're a fool"
"This is pointless..." she started walking away from me "you are not a noble, so why argue something you don't understand?" and looked at me one last time "honor is what made our lives worth living and I would gladly die for it!" was her final say before leaving the tent
I shook my head at Louise... she's really focused on her honor. Then again...it's what made her continue to struggle and live. The war against Reconquista in Tarbes helped her get recognized, she was given quite the honor from her best friend and the people of Tristain acknowledge that
'If honor is what made you like this' I thought 'then you have to survive this war and see if it really is worth it...'
I walked the streets feeling the snow fall against my skin and thankfully the people around are still enjoying themselves to notice my conversation with Derflinger
"Hey partner" it called to me "how come you didn't slap her for like before?"
"Louise may be stubborn in her choices, but she's young" I reasoned "if I repeat that action, honor will be the only thing she fights for" and sighed "if she's going to learn, she must survive"
"You know partner" my sword chuckled "if you hadn't told me that you're a commoner... I'd mistake you as ruler in disguise"
I smiled a bit that Derf is comparing me to royals, but my thoughts are more focused on the war... I hoped that it would end so people can focus on rebuilding and think on communication instead of conflict
I then bumped into someone since my mind was still on conflict against Reconquista
"I'm sorry about that" I apologized "my mind was somewhere else"
"I know you didn't mean that Peter" I heard Siesta's voice and looked up to see said person smiling at me "you seem troubled tonight"
"Had another argument with Louise" I sighed "I swear that girl doesn't realize that she's worrying people"
"You poor thing" she grabbed my hand "why don't I take you someplace comfortable"
Meanwhile a group of soldiers were near a well trying to stay sober from drinking so much from the parties earlier
"What a night!"
"I didn't think I could drink so much...!"
"Let's hope not to have a headache after our sleep! Wouldn't want to disappoint our queen after she risked going into battle"
But as they talked...they felt a mental strain as if a command forced it's way inside their heads
'Henrietta's men are the enemy...kill them! Leave none alive...!'
The soldiers tried to fight that order but sadly they were still drunk making them completely to the command and looked ready to fight without second thought
Tristain's forces will have trouble... and Albion's army will take the opportunity to win!
I was sitting in a room with Siesta beside as the maid laid her head on my shoulder
"Are you comfortable Peter?"
"I am" I said wrapping Siesta in my arm "it maybe the war that caused this encounter, but I am glad to see you again"
"Peter" she looked at me "I have so many questions about the home you and great grandfather lived in" before touching my hand "can you tell me about it one day?"
"I'll see if I can" I scratched my head "I may know of Takeo's home country but I don't have much to tell you..."
"I doesn't have to be everything" she giggled
Boom!
We both turned at hearing that and saw smoke in the sky
"What was that!?" Siesta panicked
"Nothing good" I frowned 'Reconquista must have been desperate to stage an attack during the Silver Pentecost'
Henrietta was with her general in a meeting room discussing the plans on the next attack against Albion's forces. But the door was kicked open and the two saw a panicked Agnes
"Bad news!" she shouted "our forces have gone rogue...!"
"What!?" Oliviers shouted in shock "that's impossible! Our soldiers are loyal...!"
Sadly during his disbelief a fireball is seen by the musketeer and she ran the queen and tackled her away
Boom
The two saw the general die as his body was burned to ashes
"General Poiter!" Henrietta at seeing the man die
"It's not safe here anymore your highness!" Agnes grabbed her arm "we need to leave...!"
Siesta and I split up as chaos raged in South Gotha, Tristain soldiers were fighting their own allies and people panicked at the sudden violence in the village
'Did Reconquista's desperation take over?' I ran around seeing more of Tristain fighting their own soldiers while the few that aren't fighting help evacuate the villagers 'I have to find Louise...!'
I continue to run and saw Louise use her void magic helping the Tristain soldiers fend off against
"Kill the queen!"
"Stop this...! You are not the enemy!"
Boom
An explosion sent the rogue soldier flying giving the allies a chance to help evacuate the civilians
"Louise!"
The void mage turned to see me and felt glad for once
"Peter!" she shouted before raising her wand "help me aid the soldiers as they evacuate the villagers!"
I pulled out Derflinger and got ready fight
'No doubt that the leader used a spell to get us fight each other...' I growled blocking a sword strike
I hope the queen and her remaining soldiers can plan a line of defense while evacuating South Gotha tonight...
Everyone was at the pier with the remaining soldiers helping civilians of South Gotha board the airships
"Please let me on!"
"I have children with me...!"
"I can't die here!"
"Don't push!"
"Everyone will get aboard, just remain calm!"
I shook my head at the situation, Reconquista has really surprised masses last night...Tristain soldiers have thinned so badly, they are having problems to calm the panic
'No thanks to Cromwell's followers' I balled my hands 'first killing prince Wales, now disregarding lives' and gnashed my teeth a bit 'what other false beliefs he made to create Reconquista?'
My thoughts stopped when I saw Louise walking into battle instead of boarding one of the airships
I grabbed the girl by the shoulder making her stop "still going to fight the enemy despite the panic?"
"Yes..." she answered "I was given a special request by councilor Mazarin" before looking at me "he wished me to be part of the last line of defend so the queen and villagers can escape South Gotha"
I blinked at hearing that "you can leave like everyone else, yet you chose to stay and fight"
She nodded "even though we still have disagreements on what to fight for, I'll at least admit that I'm saving the queen because she has to help the kingdom recover after this war is" and then her eyes started to tear up "after all...I'm now fighting to protect someone I care"
At least Louise is showing her caring side again. I lifted the girl's face up making her look at me
"You are starting to change Louise" I smiled "before you go into battle, at least make yourself feel ready"
The void mage smiled a bit and walked away to get some supplies
I smiled slightly, even though Louise still carried a pride...she is starting to see that honor isn't so important
"Peter..." a familiar voice spoke behind me
I turned to see Siesta having a worried look
"Is something wrong Siesta?" I asked
"This war is getting worse" she walked toward me and presented a small bottle "take this sleep potion, it may help you"
"Thanks Siesta" I smiled before touching her face "this war may have turned bad, but I'm glad to see you"
"Me too Peter" she smiled grabbing my hand "I wouldn't want you to die here" before letting go to board the airship
'Don't worry I won't' I pocketed the potion 'I hope you don't mind seeing my body having scars when I get back...'
I walked to see some people pack their supplies while those who panicked immediately went for boarding to escape
'It really is something to see that the people are torn between choosing their lives or the effort to help lives after the war'
I was able to find Louise as the girl had a bottle of wine with a pair of glasses in hand
"I see you decided to make this moment memorable" I said
"Consider this my apology for not properly communicating in the war" she replied
While that happened the queen of Tristain looked at the window as Agnes and Mazarin are with her
"Your highness" the advisor spoke "we need you to leave this village and get to safety"
"I am the queen of Tristain" Henrietta turned to him "my priority is to ensure that the people evacuate safely" her words carried resolve "I'll be the last to leave this village Mazarin"
Agnes stayed quiet at the exchange 'I still can't believe that you would do that Mazarin' she thought 'but how can that girl deny such a request if it will keep her highness safe...'
The two of us are in a church with the void mage giving a silent prayer while I prepared our drinks. After pouring the wine I poured a drop of sleep potion Siesta gave me into Louise's glass
'Honor may have kept you focused' I pocketed the bottle 'but if you do this, Henrietta will be alone...'
I took the glasses and walked toward Louise as she finished her prayer and we drank our wine
"Are you sure that I can't change your mind about this?" I asked
"No you cannot" she responded raising her glass signaling me to do the same "although I shouldn't be mad at you for trying to open my eyes"
"So are you finally admitting it?" I raised my brow
"I am" Louise nodded "even though my life has gotten better after I summoned you" she drank her wine "I still feel out of place"
"And your honor kept you moving forward?" I questioned
"I had to struggle with constant failure" she shivered "my sister Cattleya tried hard to support me but it wasn't enough..."
She then looked at me
"Even though you and I fought due to our perspectives differing in this war" she smiled sadly "I'm grateful that you didn't go further than slapping me"
"I'm just glad you are not like most of your family" I shook my head "I can understand expectations, but that isn't the only thing important in your life"
"Yes" the void mage nodded "it may take some time for me to realize this fault, but I am glad I noticed"
She made a small smile "even though you are my familiar, and a commoner at that, you have shown me that being different isn't a problem"
Louise was about to say more but she fell into my arms. I smiled that the sleep potion worked
"I'm sorry Louise" I said "the queen lost Wales thanks to war, I don't want you in that situation..."
I walked out the church to see Julio with his dragon waiting outside
"Julio?" I blinked at seeing the Romalian
"The queen is important" he spoke before walking toward me "but I care about Louise also"
"Then you are just in time" I gave the girl to him making the guy blink "you can get her out of here"
"Are you really going to stay here?" he questioned "the enemy has 70,000 soldiers"
"If you remember my demonstration back at the academy, I carry unorthodox magic" I retorted "it may be impossible to you and others...but I am different, I can make sure that Reconquista won't get to the airships"
"Why go so far on doing this?" he questioned "you said that honor isn't important to you"
"It isn't" I replied "I'm fighting to protect the lives I care"
"If only I wasn't distracted by Louise" Julio chuckled "you and I could become friends"
'I believe that' I smiled a bit "you should go, Albion's army is not stopping"
Night arrive and the remaining soldiers called the evacuees to get aboard the airship before it departs
Meanwhile Peter was keeping the brainwashed Tristain soldiers at bay
"You're not getting past me...!"
Clang!
Bam!
He jumped back from a group attack and raised his arm releasing a wind spell at a group making them fly back but saw another group coming at him
In a desperate move he stood his ground not noticing his rings glowed together creating an ice wall stopping the soldiers
'Ice?' Peter blinked before looking at his right hand seeing the royal rings glow before dimming 'of course, the elements can be mixed!' he smiled
Without any more thoughts he readied his weapon and free hand with an ice spell ready to cast
"I'll keep fighting them without my armor" he stated
"You are one crazy guy partner" Derflinger spoke "don't get hurt too badly before fighting the real threat"
"WHAT!?" Henrietta shouted after what she just heard "Louise stayed behind?!" she was about to walk out
"You can't leave your highness!" the advisor grabbed the queen's arm
"Let me go!" she insists on finding her friend "I can't leave her behind!"
Surprisingly she was let go making her turn and see Mazarin on the floor pleading at her
Even Agnes was surprised by this...
"Your highness, your kingdom needs you" he said before balling his hands in regret "I know that you care for Ms. Valliere but she wished for your safety!" his voice turned a bit coarse "if you go now... her sacrifice would be in vain!"
"That...can't be..." the queen fell to her knees unable to fight the truth
The musketeer looked away in shame feeling just as helpless
Louise groaned and when she got her vision clear, she saw Julio smiling at her
"Finally awake sleeping beauty?"
"Julio?" she rubbed her eyes a bit and saw that she was on the airship deck
"Ms. Valliere!" the void mage turned to see Siesta with her uncle and cousin "have you seen Peter?"
"He's not here?" she blinked
"He stayed behind to fight against Reconquista" Julio answered getting their attention
"What?"
"Peter stayed behind to fight the enemy alone" he repeated feeling solemn
"But...but...!" the maid had tears in her eyes 'the sleep potion I gave him earlier was to save his life!' before fainting
"Siesta!" Jessica caught her cousin before she hit the floor with Scarron looking distraught
"Peter...stayed?" Louise couldn't believe it and in a panic she ran for the rails
"Louise!" the owner of the Fairy Inn ran after her
The void mage was about to jump off before she was pulled back
"Let me go! I have to go back!"
"It's too late!" Scarron kept his hold on her "we are too far!"
"No it's not!" she screamed with tears in her eyes "I can still join him! Let me go please!" but the view of South Gotha became small in her sight
"PETER...!"
I panted hard at finally killing the last Tristain puppet
"That's the last brainwashed soldier" I looked at my work seeing fallen bodies along with ice shards
"I'm surprised that you can mix the elements of your acquired magic" Derflinger hummed "usually it takes time to mix elements"
"Perhaps it was thanks to the trust by the royals" I looked at the items on my right hand 'when I get back, I'm gonna see how well I can cast the ice' a chuckle escaped my lips 'Jean Colbert would love to see that if he was still alive'
I stood up and saw Reconquista's army below
"Let's make Albion remember this"
"With you all the way partner" my sword called

"Hen...shin!"

I ran down the hill to see a few fireballs coming at me

I pointed my engine blade up extinguishing the spell before pulling the trigger again

I made several swings making a large group of enemy soldiers fly back and heard screams while seeing a rain of arrows in the sky
'They really don't want to lose...'
Most of the arrows flew back while some were able to scratch my armor due to the arrows being a high number
Electric
I jumped back dodging a ballista aimed at me before thinking on using that as a stepping stone to jump into an enemy group nearby
BZZT!
More screams were heard by the soldiers and I pulled the trigger one more time
Engine Maximum Drive
Three slashes came and most of the soldiers around were caught in the attack
Ka-boom!
I jumped back to dodge another volley of fireballs, I opened my weapon and the Engine memory ejected before I grabbed it in the air and removed the Accel memory
Engine Maximum Drive
I removed my Acceldriver and changed into bike mode as my body covered in flames charging through another battalion of Albion soldiers
Boom!
I changed back from bike mode and nearly got hit by a giant metal club and saw a monster growling
'No doubt a last resort spell to keep the advantage' I thought inserting a T2 memory 'I say it's time for them to feel the struggle Tristain went through' and squeezed the handbrake
Puppeteer Maximum Drive
I jumped dodging another strike before running up the weapon to land on the monster's head as strings appeared from my fingers before the weaved around the monster making it submit to my will
Peter used his new puppet to demolish the enemy group
"How is he still alive!?"
"He can't be human...!"
"Keep fighting! He's only one person!"
"Who somehow is winning against us...!"
I saw a giant fireball and several smaller ones coming at me and my puppet. I severed my control and jumped of my ride making it burn while getting some singes on my armor
'Want to use volley tactics?' I saw another set of fire coming down 'let's see you hand my version!'
Heat Maximum Drive
Peter raised his arms stopping the spell and redirected them to the wooden towers nearby making the soldiers near them run from the burning construct in panic
"You are not going to win Reconquista!" he removed the Heat memory and inserted another one into his Acceldriver
Ocean Maximum Drive
Peter waved his arms gathering water around him blocking more spells before spreading apart hitting the Albion soldiers
Splash!
I panted starting to feel a bit of fatigue, but I can't stop... these soldiers will fight as ordered!
'Must...keep fighting!' I thought pulling out the Ocean memory and inserted the Metal memory 'let's see if your weapons can handle this'
Metal Maximum Drive
Peter's armor shined under the moonlight as some Reconquista soldiers pulled out their swords and went on to strike him
Clang!
Those brave few that thought the direct assault saw their blades couldn't make a scratch his armor and got dented instead!
"Nice try, but your too focused on winning to realize that I'm not a typical mage!"
Bam!
Pow!
Wham!
I struck them fast making noticeable dents before another rain of arrows came down on me hitting my armor, but luckily the Metal memory made my armor durable to withstand the barrage
When the attack, Reconquista was dumbfounded to see the lone enemy still standing
"No one can survive that!"
"He's not human...!"
"Is there anything that can get him!?"
I smiled as fear started to get them, their distraction gave me a bit of time to use my Trial memory

Beep...beep...BEEP!
The Albion soldiers blinked to see a blue armored but then got struck by an unknown force as their armor felt something sharp
Clang! Crash!
Peter ran around striking any soldier he could find before he stopped in a clearing. The Reconquista group started stepping back at seeing him as they witnessed his ability at fighting their group
"Looks like the enemy is feeling more of the fear partner" Derflinger "can you still keep going...?"
"I have to" Peter nodded as he opened his engine blade "how many soldiers have been struck down...?"
"I lost count after you used the fire spell partner" Derflinger answered "but I can guess that you almost half of the 70,000"
'Then I will use the Booster form after this attack' I thought putting another T2 memory and closed my weapon

A blur ran through the soldiers with a flash of blue light striking fast on before it revealed Peter standing still with an ice blade holding his Trial memory looking like menace
Trial Maximum Drive
The Reconquista soldiers who were struck by him were now frozen in ice. The enemy group felt their fear rise and more stepped back as their numbers got smaller...A battalion of 70,000 soldiers now down to 10,000.
A single being stood against their might and is winning...!
"Don't be fooled!" the commander shouted "he can still be beaten...!"
'Found the real target' I thought 'so focused on victory to see that he's not in the advantage anymore'
I pulled out my Accel memory and attached it to the memory adapter
Accel...upgrade
The echo made them step back fearing what will now be happening despite the delusional leader saying to attack
Booster
Yellow engine pistons appeared and slammed themselves on the ground changing Peter's armor again into Booster form
I saw the fear in Reconquista. They now have the thoughts of running away
'Must kill that commander so the bloodshed in this war ends...!' I ran forward feeling the thrusters of my back crashing through the scared soldiers and flew up into the air grabbing the leading commander in the process
"Still going to fight...?" I questioned "I've taken cared of most your forces, even went as far using one monster against your numbers"
"You won't win!" the enemy leader shouted in denial "Reconquista will be victorious!"
I shook my head at his words, I let go of my target making him go down before I squeezed the handbrake
Accel Maximum Drive
My thrusters released a heavy burst of power making me go fast as I delivered a drop kick at the general and we reached the ground making the remaining army fly backwards!
Crash!
A crater was seen and the Reconquista soldiers braced against the rushing winds from the crash
They looked up to see Peter dragging their unconscious general, heavily injured but alive, his chest armor destroyed and had some heavy injuries from the high fall
"Soldiers of Reconquista!" he shouted to them "your massive numbers have dwindled by me! Your leader forced you to fight still despite the unbelievable in front of you" and threw the guy to the ground "now I offer you survivors a choice! Stay and die fighting against Kamen Rider Accel, never to see friends and loved ones again... or surrender to Tristain so you lot can live and be with them to rebuild your home!"
The answer was already unanimous...the remaining soldiers dropped their weapons and ran away from battle
I smiled at seeing the survivors finally see the truth of this war
But there was still a problem to take care of...
"You...won't... get me... to...surrender...!" the delusional general breathed raggedly standing wobbly with sword in hand still willing to fight despite the already defeat Reconquista accepted
"Looks he wants to end it with honor partner" Derflinger spoke from my back "you gonna give him that relief?"
"No I won't, he'll die without that" I pulled it of my back and opened inserting the Unicorn memory and replacing my Accel memory with the Rocket memory
Unicorn/Rocket Maximum Drive
My turbines flared again as I broke the speed of sound crashing into the last soldier of Reconquista and moved to the sky before shoving him away letting the enemy fall down before I looped around and held Derf forward like a stinger making my attack all the more deadly
I tore through the delusional man tearing his being in two...!
Boom!
I braced myself for another crash as kept my grip on Derf due to the speed I used thanks to the Rocket memory
'I hope that my new armor can withstand the impact' I thought keeping hold on my weapon 'cause this one is much harder than the fall with Kirche'
Crash!
I rolled against the ground a bit, thankfully my armor absorbed the impact like before and finally stopped. I looked at the twin moons, my armor disappeared and I can feel all the pain coming in...I couldn't even groan due to moving so much
"Are you still alive partner?" My sword asked me
"I am..." I moaned "though fighting against 70,000 thousand soldiers by myself has finally got me exhausted"
"So, you're dying...?" it questioned curiously and slightly fearful with a tint of worry
"Nope, just very tired" I can even feel some of my blood stain my clothes "though it would be nice to wake up seeing no dead bodies in sight"
"I'll see what I can do" my sword hummed "just take your rest, it may take me a while find out how to do that thanks to my long sleep"
I chuckled at my sword's words. I looked up at the night sky remembering the people I met here in Halkagenia
'I hope you guys won't mind waiting a bit for my return' I thought 'I would like some peaceful atmosphere time before being bombarded by your emotions'
And closed my eyes letting sleep take over as the war between Tristain and Albion has finally ended...
Tristain was feeling only one thing right now...excitement
Streets were filled with joy and cheer, stores were selling a lot of items, people partying like there was no tomorrow making an effort to show that it was a great time of celebration!
And why was the kingdom celebrating...?
After the queen, her remaining soldiers and the civilians from South Gotha escaped the battle. A messenger from Albion came to Tristain the day after their departure and give information about the war
Albion has surrendered...
Surprise was the emotion Henrietta felt as she and her council were in disbelief that the enemy simply surrendered...they had a number 70,000 soldiers...!
When asked why they surrendered, they heard a surprising answer
"One man, named Kamen Rider Accel, fought our forces" the messenger said "he carried unusual magic, and used it to lessen our numbers down by thousands" and chuckled "I'm surprised he offered mercy, but with our leader turning delusional... surrender was a better option"
One man halted Reconquista's advance and fought against them? not only was that unbelievable, it was downright impossible...!
Only few could believe that statement as truth...
"Peter..." the queen muttered as she looked out the balcony seeing the people below celebrating and hearing cheer from within the castle "please come back" she looked at the sky "you have saved so many lives by staying behind, I would like nothing more than having you visit this castle again"
She felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to see her mother wearing a regular royal dress instead of the black one for today since it is a special occasion
"I see you are contemplating this victory" Marianne spoke "what is on your mind daughter?"
"I was thinking of a proper reward for our brave hero mother" Henrietta replied "I know he's alive somewhere"
"I'm sure he just needs rest dear" the woman smiled "after all, he made sure no more lives are taken in the war"
"Yes mother" she nodded having one last thought of the brave hero 'I hope you aren't hurt too badly Peter' before walking into the castle with her mother to at least participate with celebrating for a short while
Tristain academy was open again with male students were reunited with the female students exchanging hugs and kisses feeling joy within the walls of the academy
The news of Albion's surrender reached them as well and were in cheer as well
Well except a few in the school...
Siesta was still a bit distraught that her love was left back there, she used her maid duty as a coping mechanism to handle the grief, but felt hopeful that he was alive and would return one day
'You will come back Peter' she thought 'you faced the impossible before'
Kirche was sitting on her bed, after hearing the news of Peter fighting against Reconquista alone, she decided to stay focus on her studies as a makeup on the lack enthusiasm after transferring
"Darling..." she touched the ribbon on her hair "you are not dead, you just needed rest" she looked out the window "I hope you will return soon, I know you don't like to worry people" a giggle escaped her lips "and I'm sure Tabitha would like to be beside you upon your return" before she went to feed Flame
Speaking of said girl, the wind mage was at vestri court reading her book as usual but Sylphid stayed beside her with the dragon trying her best to comfort the wind mage
Tabitha patted her familiar as a sign that she is fine. She looked at her dragon calmly
"Peter...strong" even though that was a monotone answer her voice carried some hope that he will return
Guiche and Montmorency were also in the area conversing with each other about Peter
"He is different from the others" the earth mage smiled
"Yes he is" the water mage nodded "Peter is someone you can befriend easily if status isn't a concern"
The two held hands feeling thankful that he opened their eyes on their personal issues after the love potion incident
'Peter, let us finish this duel when you return' they thought together 'our feelings are real but this contract must finish to prove that...'
Matilda was working on the dragon's raiment as she thought about her life that led to this point
'I may not have known you much Peter' she hammered out the dents of the dragon 'but you were the first person to believe my story and tried to help me' she held the hammer tightly 'when you come back here, this dragon will at least look presentable to you'
Louise was in her room staring at the empty bed her familiar used and recalled the moments where she and Peter before the two wars happened
"Peter..." she said her familiar's name "you are just taking your time to heal" and sighed a bit "I wish this feeling wouldn't be too bothersome"
Her two sisters, Eleanor and Cattleya, watched their young sister still coping on losing someone she trusted
"Louise is handling it better..." the middle Valliere smiled "she returned back in heavy tears after telling us in the war"
"At least that commoner has proven something" the eldest crossed her arms "I'm still not happy that he would strike me and our parents for Louise's safety"
"Sister!" Cattleya turned to her sibling "did you already forget that he did that to ensure Louise's future?" she reminded making the blonde Valliere flinch "the least we could do is comfort Louise before returning home"
"That we can agree on" Eleanor nodded 'and hopefully mother and father won't berate Louise on this...'
A couple of days passed since the end of the war and most were back to their routine days of school
Osmond was with the queen of Tristain in his office alongside Agnes and Julio being bodyguards for Henrietta
"Even though the war has ended" the headmaster sighed petting his mouse familiar "I'm still in disbelief that Peter would do that for us"
"He cared more of our safety than his" the Romalian sighed "I suppose the queen has more faith for him to return"
"I agree" the musketeer followed "that man may be an outsider, but his magic and mettle saved our kingdom twice"
The queen simply looked at the window seeing students do their schoolwork or socializing with others still thinking about Peter's return
Tap, tap...
The noise got her attention and saw a small blue beetle on the other side of the window
'It can't be...' she thought seeing the little one fly away 'he has returned?!'
The queen ran out of the room surprising the headmaster, musketeer and Romalian with the latter two following behind calling her on the sudden movement
Louise was walking down the halls with Kirche and Tabitha as the three finished their lunch
"How are you handling yourself Valliere?" the fire mage asked "darling still hasn't come back"
"I'm fine Zerbst" the void mage replied "even though it's the second day after the war, it felt like a week to me"
"Hey" the wind mage pointed forward "look ahead"
The two saw students saw the queen of Tristain run fast with Julio and Agnes following behind
"Was that her highness?" Louise blinked
"We should follow" Kirche suggested "it might be something important"
"Follow" Tabitha nodded in agreement
The queen ran out to the field following the memory gadget as it continued flying ahead
While that happened, the three students were right behind them getting more curious at the scene
'What has her highness act like that...?' Louise blinked at her best friend's action
"Your highness!" Julio called again
"Please slow down...!" Agnes raised her arm trying to reach her physically
The queen of Tristain stopped making everyone else stop as well. The Romalian and musketeer were glad that happened because they were surprised that she moved so quickly
"Now your highness" they said with slight pants "what has gotten you-"
Their voices stopped upon seeing a familiar being just a short distance before them
Even the three students were surprised, and very glad at that, to see him in person
Peter Lionheart had an outstretched arm with the beetle phone landing on his hand
"It's good to see you again" he said in a warm tone
"Peter..." Henrietta covered her mouth with tears of joy
"Are you...?" the Romalian pointed his finger feeling like he was seeing a hallucination
"It just can't be...!" Agnes felt the same as she was still reeling in the fact that he was the one being who fought against Reconquista
"It's really me" Peter assured before scratching his head "I would have returned after stopping the war, but I needed rest from fighting against a big number in South Gotha"
"And I can vouch for him" Derflinger spoke from Peter's back "he really was exhausted after Albion accepted surrender"
"PETER!/DARLING...!" Louise and Kirche ran ahead passing the trio and tackled me to the ground feeling joy and relief with tears falling from their eyes staining my shirt "YOU'RE BACK!"
"Yes I am" the two kept a tight hold on me that I was real and finally back "and we're all safe"
Agnes, Julio, Henrietta and Tabitha watched the group with small smiles at seeing the one who saved them from Reconquista and stopped the war between the two kingdoms
"Welcome back Peter" Henrietta whispered at seeing the hero try to calm the wave of emotions he was receiving from the people he befriended and saved before he was pulled by the two students to show the academy that the hero of Tristain has returned!

And that concludes season two of my Accel story. I'm glad that it's done (I hoped the big battle is satisfying), season 3 will be short because the focus on that is about perspectives leading to Tabitha's rescue (meaning filler chapters are at least in that season to show character developments)
Anyway the sound effects will not be added anymore (it's starting become a hassle... at first it was fun but repeating them made it hard to pace the chapter) I'll put this story on hold now since it was the main focus on my updates
Here is something that would at least help you wait on the next season
W vs Reconquista army (I originally thought of Peter dueling Karin, but this is more fitting)
I panted hard at finally getting the last mind controlled soldier of Tristain and used Derf as support since I haven't used my Gaia memories yet
"I can't believe that I was able to get them all" I gasped at my accomplishment
"You did a good job stopping the fallen soldiers" my sword spoke "but now you have an army to fight"
I looked up to see Reconquista below. Knowing that my life is on the line and the contracts I made... I plan to stop this war and win!
I sheathed Derflinger on my back and placed the Doubledriver on my waist before pulling out my Joker memory
"Ready to keep fighting Derf?"
"Always ready partner"
"Henshin!"
Cyclone Joker
My armor appeared and I looked at the army before me...
"Now Reconquista, count up your sins"
And ran to the army with no hesitation while I saw a few fireballs coming at me!
Using my Cyclone memory, I was able to divert the flames away as I got closer before using said memory to quickly strike the enemy soldiers

Pow!
Baff!
A handful flew back hitting ithers distracting them while others tried to keep their formation giving me time to insert my Joker memory into the maximum slot
Joker Maximum Drive
I floated in the air getting the attention of nearby soldiers as they were in disbelief at seeing my power
"Joker Extreme!"
I made a drop kick with my body splitting in two as my left half striking a nearby target with right half following
Ka-boom!
The explosion created a chain reaction sending more of the Albion soldiers flying back hitting their own soldiers in the process
I jumped back dodging a giant metal club and saw a monster roaring at the missed opportunity but I quicly closed my buckle and changed my Joker mempry with Metal
Cyclone Metal
I pulled out my metal shaft and ran up to the monster's club, with wind gathered n my staff I struck it down after striking it's head

The monster fell the ground shocking the soldiers before I pulled out the Metal memory and inserted it to my weapon
Metal Maximum Drive
Wind gathered on the metal shaft as I held it in one hand raising it to the air
"Metal Twister!"
I spun around hitting anyone nearby hearing screams as I kept attacking
As the unfortunate people that got hit Peter's attack a rain of arrows came down striking them down but he was okay thanks to his attack
'So they're willing to sacrifice their own soldiers to win' Peter frowned 'the desperation really set in when they made a ambush during the Silver Pentecost'
I stopped my attack and changed my form again
Heat Metal
My right half changed to red and the metal shaft now had flames on both ends making Reconquista halt at seeing such a sight and few were stepping back in fright
"Let's see you stay strong after this!" I declared
The battle between Peter and the army with him still standing and the soldiers were flying back with some parts of their armor scorched by his fire spell if not dented from the staff...
"This can't be happening..."
"How is he even still fighting...!?"
"He can't be human..."
I struck the final attacking soldier in front of me and saw the other starting too quiver despite their ready stances. No doubt that this battle was meant to be one sided to their victory
Poor fools...told of a new order but blinded by their hatred of the crown within Albion before setting their sights to other kingdoms
Honk! Honk!
Suddenly an unexpected vehicle came crashing through the Albion soldiers before stopping in front of me
"You called it before we started stalling the controlled soldiers...?" my right eye blinked
"I'm actually surprised that there was a spell for it to during battle" I hummed "but I'm glad I found out"
I sat on my motorbike and revved the engine before using the speed of my vehicle to surprise the enemy striking them unexpectedly
Metal Maximum Drive
"Metal Branding!"
I held my staff as both ends ignited with heavy flame and swung both ends hitting any target that it can reach
Boom!
I jumped of my vehicle making it crash into a portable tower destroying it and saw the army now cut down by half
"You just got a big number in this night" Derf spoke "are you still going to fight...?"
"I have to" I nodded closing my buckle again "in order for this war to stop, Reconquista must keep dwindling to see the consequence of pride"
Heat Trigger
The left half of my armor turned blue and the trigger magnum appeared on my hand before aiming at the enemy soldiers
The battle continued in the night and more soldiers of Reconquista are getting killed by the lone Tristain opposition and some of them started speaking out the fear they felt
"He took out half of our forces"
"He's just one man...!"
"Who is culling us in this war, I might add"
"If he keeps up, we may not have an army to fight with"
Trigger Maximum Drive
"Trigger Explosion!"
A stream of fire was released from Peter's weapon and it burned a line of soldiers as their bodies became ash on the ground
The Albions who were able to move away, and luckily at that, saw the effect of facing such a foe are now hesitant to fight in the war
"What are you all waiting for!?" the general shouted to his fellows "we now have an opportunity to kill him...!"
"They're scared" I retorted making the commander look at me "I fought against your battalion and culled the number down by thousands" and raised my gun to the air "soldiers of Reconquista! I have shown my might against your forces!" before looking at them "so I offer this only chance for you to make! Leave now and go back to your kingdom" and motioned to the battlefield filled with dead bodies in the area "or die here and never return!"
The majority of Reconquista instantly dropped their swords and ran away wanting no more part of this battle feeling thankful that the lone enemy was offering them a chance to escape the now pointless war
Now the general of the delusional Reconquista is now with only a thousand loyal soldiers following the original leader's belief
"You may have brainwashed my soldiers to leave" he pulled out his sword ready to fight to the end "but I and my loyalists are still here to get Albion victory!"
"Then the kingdom you live in will find better hands to flourish"

The remaining soldiers felt something striking them with a few soldiers having dented armor and broken blades in hand
It revealed to be the Fang memory distracting them giving me enough time to remove my armor before it landed on my hand

"I'll give you the belief on what you are against" I stated before using my alternate form of my armor
Fang Joker
The battle of the remaining Albion soldiers against me was short, I passed the commanding officer and killed the followers first as their armor now
"Why did you make me your last target?" the general questioned
"To show you the cost of choosing pride" I sighed "you'll fight to your last breath, so I'll make sure you are the last man standing against me" and reached for the horn of my Fang memory
Fang Maximum Drive
"Fang Strizer!"
Boom!
I finally stopped the war and it left me exhausted, my armor protected me from heavy injury but I still carry wounds; scratches were on my clothes and some of my blood stained them
"This war is finally over..." I panted "now Henrietta will have peace and work on rebuilding her home"
"You okay partner?" Derflinger spoke with a hint of worry
"I'm just tired" I slowly pressed myself on the grass "I don't suppose you have a spell to get us away from South Gotha? I'd like to wake up without seeing dead bodies please"
"I'll see if I can remember" my sword hummed "I'm still trying to recall what else I did before going taking a long sleep"
"You do that Derf" I groaned feeling the exhaustion take over "I'll just get some sleep now" and thought of one last thing 'I hope you lot don't worry too much after finding out I stayed here to fend off against Reconquista'
A day after Albion surrendering due to one person from Tristain which surprised the citizens of the kingdom were surprised about that, but a few knew who was that lone being
Peter Lionheart, the familiar Louise Valliere...
Most celebrated at this great fortune
...but some weren't feeling that
Siesta was quietly doing her maid duties looking somber
Matilda was fixing out the dents of the dragon's raiment trying to make it presentable in memory of Jean and Peter
"I know this isn't to fly anymore" the former thief sighed "so I'll at least preserve it's appearance"
Kirche, with Tabitha reading her book beside the girl, was in the courtyard alongside Montmorency and Guiche accompanying them looking out in the distance recalling the interactions they had with Peter
"Darling..." the fire mage muttered sadly before her hand was held by the wind mage as a sign of comfort
"Peter" the earth mage "I know you're alive out there"
"I hope he's coming back" the water mage muttered "the both of you still have a duel to finish"
Inside the office the headmaster was with some company "to think that Peter stayed behind" Osmond petted his familiar "and thanks to him we are saved"
"I'm still baffled that he would do that" Agnes sighed rubbing her face a bit
"I'm sorry" Henrietta said as she was looking out the window "it's my fault"
"Don't blame yourself your highness" Julio spoke "he told me that you shouldn't focus on the losses in the war and work on rebuilding the kingdom"
The queen stayed quiet and continued looking outside 'Louise...'
Louise was in her room staying unusually quiet sitting on the bed with Cattleya beside rubbing the girl's back trying to comfort her
But the silence broke when Eleanor opened the curtains of the room
"Seriously Louise" the eldest Valliere spoke "are you just going to sit around doing nothing?"
"Sister...!" the middle Valliere glared lightly "Louise is still grieving from this"
"You shouldn't care for that commoner" Eleanor huffed "he's just someone that shouldn't be noticed"
That statement did it
The void mage stood up and lightly hit her eldest sister surprising the two
