I'm back yet again!
Midnight: Is this the thing now? You leaving for a year and then coming back out of nowhere?
Oh be quiet, it's only happened twice.
Midnight: Whatever, just try to be more consistent with your updates.
You asking me to be consistent is like me asking you to stop looking through my notes trying to find out what I'm doing.
Midnight: I- just start the chapter!
On it.
I ended up building a small home for myself once I finally realized that being out in the open after dark wasn't a good idea. I had two days until the competition, and I had a strong feeling that in order for me to get home, I'd have to get myself involved in the plot.
The only way I saw myself doing that was joining the Ocelots, as I hadn't even met Jesse and his friends yet, so they were out of the question. If I got closer to Lukas, joining his group seemed like a high possibility.
You're just saying that because you like him.
Shut up. I did my best to ignore that small voice in my head. A crush on someone who wasn't even real? Someone would find a way to safely hug a creeper before that became true.
But I still found it hard to sleep that night, if not because unanswered questions roamed in my head, then because everything from the wind to a spider's hiss kept me awake. Now I understand why Minecraft wouldn't let players sleep if monsters were nearby. Eventually though, I managed to tune out the noise and my own thoughts just long enough to fall into a dreamless sleep.
The next morning, I found a fox at my door. Yep, a fox.
"Where did you come from?" I wondered. Foxes only spawned in taiga biomes as far as I was aware, and this was not a taiga biome. Then again, if there was one nearby, then it could have wandered here after chasing a chicken or a rabbit. It didn't seem interested in returning home, though, rather staying right at my front door.
"I don't have any sweet berries for you, unfortunately. No livestock either." This didn't deter it at all. It also confused me that it wasn't running away like it normally would.
"Or do you want to stay with me for a different reason?" Right as I was about to question myself for talking to a fox as if it could understand me, it actually nodded in response.
I couldn't have hid my surprise even if I tried to. This fox could understand what I was saying, and better yet, it could respond. It was basically the fox equivalent of Rueben, though with that thought, I had to wonder if this is what Jesse felt when he and his companion first met.
I let it stay with me, not like I had much of a choice since it followed me everywhere, but I didn't mind that too much. I spent a lot of time trying to decide on a name, but after finding nothing, I decided to wait on that. It would come to me eventually.
I met up with Lukas again and we talked for a while, mostly Lukas telling me about how the rainbow beacon idea was working out (As I had predicted, everyone else had agreed to the idea and Petra was more than willing to get the nether star for them) and the two of us still trying to find a name for my new friend. Surprisingly, the topic of me joining the Ocelots came up a lot faster than expected. When Lukas asked, I paused for a second. Despite the fact that it was what I was hoping for from the start, I wasn't prepared to actually be asked.
I still said yes.
Wow, this chapter ended up being a lot shorter than I thought it was going to be...
Midnight: You gave me a pet fox?
Merry Christmas.
Midnight: It's February.
Hush, enjoy your gift. Anyways, I've been stuck trying to find a name for your new best friend, so you know what that means...
Midnight: Poll time?
No. I asked a friend to pick for me. Only because I have a running theme with names right now. I mean, I even renamed your brother for the fifth time to match.
Midnight: Oh boy.
That's it for now, see you next time!
