Kate's POV
Sitting by the pool, I had been working on a sketch of Rick and I in a gazebo. It was much bigger than the one I had in the backyard, more a line to one that could be found at a local park, but in the drawing it was in the middle of the most beautiful field that I could draw, and my lover had me in his arms as our lips were about to connect. I would stop from time to time to admire the drawing and picture it really happening. I smiled before going back to shading. Suddenly a cold can of coke was placed on the small table in front of me. I could see the drops running down the side of the can, looking enticing. I put my sketch book on the table and picked up the can, popping it open,
"Thanks" I said before taking a nice cold sip. The burn of the soda hit the back of my throat, feeling amazing as always. Rick nodded and took a seat next to me again. I swallowed my sip and eyed him for a moment. "You getting in?" I asked. Rick smiled and looked over at the pool where Lilly and Humphrey were still splashing about.
"Nah, not without you" Rick answered. I snickered as I shook my head, looking t the pool once more. It had been about a week now since Rick and my dad cleared the pool of any dirt. After filtering it all out it was only a matter of a free day between my parents before we could use it. Dad had been wanting to fire up the grill for a while and flip some burgers and such, and mom was craving his grilled food since January so we planned a little something not long after the pool was clean.
I remember walking down the stairs after waking up to an empty bed. Mom had been outside enjoying the weather as dad and Rick worked. Part of me was surprised to see it, but I was glad to at the same time. Dad had thanked him, to which Rick replied that it was the least he could do. Like always mom and dad reminded him that he was family and that was that. Now that day had come, and finally we were gonna take a dip, but with the cool breeze and warm weather hitting a perfect seventy degrees, I wanted to stay out of the water for a bit and draw since it had been so long, and what better thing to draw than my own mindset.
"Well I was waiting for the others. They shouldn't be much longer" I told him as my gaze shifted to the back door. I could see my dad getting stuff ready to fire up the grill. From what I overheard Myra would stop by, and so would a couple of my other parents' friends. Which probably meant kids and teenagers staring me up and down… ugh.
"About that Kate. Do you think the others will like me? From what you told me Franklin is a bit… odd" Rick explained nervously. I gave him a giggle and a smile.
"They've been wanting to meet you since we first started dating, and While Winter has gotten the closest, she still texts me about wanting to actually sit down and have a conversation with you. As for Franklin… don't worry about him. Also I wasn't joking about you liking Winter the most because she's down to earth. Sweets and Candy are probably gonna hit on you, just stay strong" I joked, making Rick chuckle. I took another sip of my soda and looked around for a bit as if I was gonna find them.
"Whatcha drawin?" Rick asked. I turned to him and then picked up the sketchbook, handing it to him. He took it gently and smiled at what he saw. "Is this a request?" he asked.
"Maybe. If you know a place like that then yeah" I said. He chuckled and handed it back. I took it, getting ready to bring it back in the house so it did not get wet. While I was in there I would have to change out of my shorts and tank top. Rick would probably have to change as well. I don't think he would want to go swimming in jeans and a T-shirt.
"Hey, any word from Shaky?" Humphrey asked. Rick and I looked over to see Humphrey on the edge of the pool. Still in it he hung on the edge with both arms, seemingly looking chill. Lilly was getting out, probably for a drink or something. I watched as she rung out her hair and tail before walking over to the back deck.
"Uh, I messaged him and he said he would be here. That Was about an hour ago" I answered. Humphrey nodded but seemed concerned a bit.
"I'll give him a call. He probably can't find his bathing suit or something" Humphrey replied. I giggled.
"I imagine he has a messy room," I said.
"Actually his room is pretty clean" Rick said as if he were surprised himself.
"Oh yeah, you've never been inside his house have you?" Humphrey asked. I shook my head in response. That's when I heard the back door slide open which grabbed our attention. I thought it might be my dad or mom but dad was still on the back porch and mom was probably inside grabbing some things. No this was the gang. Sweets, Candy and Franklin. Only one missing was Winter and that was because she was taking her own car. She should be showing up any minute,
"So… when you say hit on is that both of them because… I really don't want any problems" Rick said as he eyed them through half squinted eyes.
"Oh no, Franklin is too much of a joker to care. You'll find that out though" I said.
"I'm gonna go give Shaky a call," Humphrey said. He slid away, causing the water to make its usual rippling sound.
"Come on, we should go get changed" I said. Rick said nothing and simply stood up, the two of us then began walking over to the house as the small group was wrapping up hello's with my dad. Humphrey walked over to the table, grabbing his phone while making sure his hands were dry, meanwhile the others met us halfway.
"Kate, it's been so long," Candy said, wrapping her arms around me which caught me off guard. Before it would have thrown me off, but after the lengths she went through with my trauma it surprised me no more.
"Hey Candy" I said as I hugged her back.
"Sorry we took so long. I had to rile everyone up and then drive them all myself" Franklin smiled. Sweets smacked his arm playfully to which he chuckled in response. He then turned his attention to Rick who was standing there with his hands nervously dug in his pockets. Franklin smiled and took a step towards him.
"Hey… you're Rick right? I'm Negan" Franklin said. Rick snickered.
"Nice to meet you too Franklin" he replied.
"Woah, he even sounds like him!" he exclaimed. The girls giggled but it was Sweets who turned to me.
"You never mentioned he had an accent," she said.
"It's very light… barely noticeable" I replied.
"Well, you think it's barely noticeable, I… think it's sexy. I bet you whisper to her in bed don't you?" Sweets asked seductively as she got close to him, reaching around and playing with his tail lightly. Rick turned to me while I simply crossed my arms and smiled. He chuckled nervously.
"You… must be Sweets," he said. She giggled as Franklin began laughing. I turned over though once I heard the back door close again. It was Winter.
"Hey Winter" I called with my arms still crossed.
"Hey. jeez you're already being creepy with him huh? How long have they been here Kate? Be honest" Winter smiled as she walked over to us. I smiled back, holding back laughter.
"Just got here" I answered. Winter went to say something but was cut off as Humphrey walked over to us.
"He's coming. Just had to help his dad with some things" he said.
"Hey Humphrey" Winter greeted.
"Hey" Humphrey greeted back happily. His tail wagged slightly as Winter and him went in for a hug. As she hugged him though I'm sure she was glad that she was already in her bathing suit.
"Ooh, that is cold," she said as she stepped back. Humphrey laughed as he stepped back as well.
"Think of that as a preparation for what's to come," Humphrey smiled. Winter took a deep breath as she looked over at the pool and thought about it. I guess the now cold and wet fur of Humphrey's body made her want to warm up quicker by getting in.
"So is he coming?" I asked Humphrey. He shrugged,
"He told me that Stephanie stopped by so… I don't know, I guess she just showed up" Humphrey explained. I felt myself grow concerned as I hoped everything would be alright.
"Shaky… that's the little brown one right? Always in the jean jacket? You still talk to him?" Franklin asked.
"Of course they do, they… I'm so sorry guys" Sweets said. I guess she thought that was bringing up memories or something.
"It's fine. Listen, me and Rick were gonna go change for the pool. Did you bring anything?" I asked, turning to Franklin again because he was the only one other than us that wasn't wearing any swimwear.
"Oh yeah. It's in the car. I wasn't sure if we were just hopping right in or not" he replied. I gave a nod and then took Rick's hand to pull him away from the small group and into the house. As we climbed the steps that led to the deck I could hear Franklin talking about how hot I was. Yeah he wasn't really my favorite but he was my friend's boyfriend so… kind of a perfect match though.
I took Rick up to my room and shut the door. I then went into my drawer to find my two piece bathing suit. There was a cute pink one I wanted to wear. As I did Rick grabbed his shorts and began undressing.
"I know. They're a bit of a handful, but you'll get used to it" I said. I heard Rick snicker as I spotted the pink strap that was the lower part of my swimwear. I picked it out and threw it to the bed and then began looking for the breast section.
"You weren't lying. No subtlety at all. Candy though… what's she like?" Rick asked. I Found the part I was looking for and stood up, sliding the drawer closed with my foot and then turned. Rick was just pulling off his pants as I did. I smiled and began undressing myself.
"She used to be on Sweets's level but I think she matured really well. Back when you were in the hospital she actually threw a little something for me. It's just a shame I was too out of it to appreciate it. I think you'll like her too, just don't be surprised if she hits on you too though" I warned.
"Oh shit… you're going to protect me right?" Rick asked as he slipped on his swimwear. I was just getting my panties around my leg.
"Of course. Although I do want to talk with Winter for a bit. Just join in if it's too much alright?" I said. Rick nodded and then sat down, eyeing my privates. I giggled as I put my bra on. "Like what ya see?" I asked, swaying my hips a little.
"M-hm" Rick hummed. I giggled again.
"Well it's all yours tonight. Oh, that reminds me. If you see Franklin and Sweets go in the house together, let me know immediately. They have a habit of fucking in other peoples beds. Candy has gotten hit multiple times, Winter I think once" Iexplained. Rick laughed as I pulled my bathing suit up my legs.
"Sounds like you got lucky," he said.
"They just aren't around all that much. But yeah, I don't want to sleep in another wolf's fluids" I said.
"You sleep in mine just fine," Rick smiled. I giggled.
"Well you're my boyfriend, and you're kinda always in there anyway. but I'll be keeping an eye on them. They love each other but they aren't exactly like us. They fuck for sport" I explained. Again Rick laughed.
"For sport huh?" he asked. I walked over and opened up the bedroom door.
"Yeah, for sport" I said. Rick stood up off the bed with a smile and walked over to me, he stopped though once he reached me. He wrapped his arms around me and gave me a kiss on the lips. Instantly I melted and kissed him back. It was only a peck but more than enough to get me lustful. We looked into each other's eyes for a moment.
"So does Franklin just… hit on everyone?" he asked.
"Yep. even my mom. Dad used to take offense but you should see the way my mom handles it. Humphrey loves it" I said. Rick chuckled.
"Cant wait" he said. We gave each other another smooch and then began heading back down the stairs. Mom was standing by dad outside as he prepared the grill. Once we stud opened the door the two turned to us and then back to what they were looking at before. From here I could hear Winter.
"It's not bad once you're in" she said. Rick and I walked over to the edge of the deck to see Winter and Lilly standing in the pool next to each other, with Humphrey floating on his back behind them. I took Rick's hand again, walked down the steps with him and over to the pool. As we approached, Candy was getting in the pool. Franklin and Sweets however turned in our direction. Franklin whistled.
"Holy shit" he said as he eyed me. By now he had changed into his swim trunks. I felt Rick's grip on my hand tighten just a little after he said that. I thought it was cute.
"Is it cold?" Sweets asked.
"Like Winter said, it's not bad once you're in," Candy said. The next thing I saw was Franklin pick Sweets up and then jump into the pool with her. I smiled as the two came up, now soaking wet.
"You dick!" Sweets yelled as she hugged herself. Franklin laughed as Humphrey did the same. Me and Winter smiled though. As for Lilly and Rick I didn't see.
"Come on you two. I want to finally meet this guy" Winter said as she kept her back to the pool edge, hanging onto it all cool like with both arms.
"You met me before," Rick said.
"Yeah but I've never actually talked to you, and Kate is my best friend. I wanna know all about you" Winter replied. Me and Rick got to the first step of the pool, dipping out feet in. It really was cold.
"Hang on, we'll be there eventually" I smiled. Winter rolled her eyes and turned to Lilly who swam up beside her. They began talking about something but I was too focused on preparing to enter the pool.
"Come on Kate, we'll do it together" Rick said. It was then that I noticed we were still holding hands. I smiled and then step by step the two of us walked in. It took a lot, but thanks to Rick's constant moving, we made it in just fine. I shivered loudly and clung to Rick for a moment for warmth. He laughed, giving me a quick hug before taking my hand again and moving over to Winter. She turned to us as we approached.
"Not gonna go under huh?" she asked. The water was already up past my chest. It was only a bit of my head and hair that was dry. Although most of my hair was wet too due to it still going down to my mid back.
"Yeah, come on Kate. I wanna see all that fur get wet" Franklin teased.
"Enough Frankie," Candy said. Rick stood next to Winter as I stood next to him, making our own little circle for a casual chat.
"Alright, I'm all yours Winter. What do ya wanna know about me?" Rick asked with a friendly smile. Winter giggled as she thought.
"Hm… there's a lot, I don't even know where to start. It's weird isn't it? You finally meet someone you've been wanting to for so long, and when you finally do, your mind just goes blank" Winter explained.
"I know it all too well. As soon as you leave though it'll come back. Starting a normal conversation is a bitch too" Rick said which earned a laugh from the white wolf beside him.
"I have a question," Franklin said with a raised hand.
"Oh shit…" Winter moaned.
"I think I already know what it is," I said.
"Uh, go ahead. Shoot" Rick instructed.
"Alright, so at our school every single guy has wondered what it's like to just… What's it like sleeping with Kate?" Franklin asked. Right in front of me. I bit my lip and turned to Rick. he looked uncomfortable.
"Uh… loving. I can't really describe it. It's just… I have no words'' Rick explained.
"Hey man, if I'm making you uncomfortable just say it. I know I seem like a douchebag but just let me know if it's too much. It's just an act really. Well most of it. I do have more to me than just bullshitting" Franklin explained. Winter snickered.
"You are so full of shit" she said as she looked down.
"Oh come on. I'm not that bad" he replied.
"He's not. I wouldn't be with him if he was" Sweets said. Winter turned to Rick with a smile and made a sex gesture with her fingers. He pointed, going through a loop she made with her other hand. "Alright so I like sex. Who doesn't?" Sweets asked.
"Ugh, you guys are taking up all the spotlight. Can we not just talk to Rick? Kate's been drooling over this guy for so long. She doesn't do that, so I want to know this guy" Candy said. Everyone turned to Rick again. He seemed clueless.
"Alright… serious question, and you don't have to answer if you don't want to… you've been through a lot man. I know you don't know this because you never came back to school, but a lot of people saw you as kind of a badass. What's it like?" Franklin asked. Rick tensed up a bit.
"What's what like?" he asked.
"I don't know, I guess… going through it all" Franklin answered.
"You don't have to answer if you don't want to," Winter reminded kindly. Rick looked as though he was lost in thought for a moment, but eventually gave Franklin an answer.
"Well it wasn't just me who went through a lot. Everyone in the family did. I was just out of it. But either way, it was awful. No one should have to go through what we did. All the crying, lost time… loss…" Rick said, pausing at that last part.
"Rick…" I said, reaching a hand out. The pool water made its gentle sways as I did.
"Let's move on. Questions seem kind of awkward for meeting a new person. It just never works out. Let's just start a conversation. What are the plans now that you're out of high school?" Rick asked. He then looked over to Winter.
"Huh… well for now I'm helping my dad run the pharmacy still so that takes up a lot of my time. But I guess since I've seen how much money the medical field brings in I'll probably pursue it. Maybe become a doctor or something. Become a sexy nurse" Winter joked. We laughed lightly as Winter turned to the person next to her, which was Candy.
"Oh… um, I haven't really thought about it much. My job as a waitress is alright but it's not what I want to do, you know? Sometimes I feel like I'm just procrastinating and it sucks" she explained.
"You feel scared that you're gonna be stuck there, doing that forever" Rick said. Candy nodded.
"Yeah, you get it. Shit, finally someone who understands. It's just scary. I feel like I'm constantly running out of time, and the stuff that I do want to do, people always tell me it's not possible" Candy explained.
"Well what is it? I didn't know you had ideas like that" I said.
"No, it's stupid" she waved, looking away. I could tell she was nervous.
"Candy, you can't just tell us you have a dream and not what it is. We want to know, '' Winter said. I saw Candy's eyes dart over to Rick. not sure why.
"Come on Candy. I want to know too" he smiled. She sighed and slumped into the water a bit.
"An actress… I want to be an actress" she pouted.
"What's wrong with that?" Franklin asked.
"Yeah, I don't see what's so unrealistic about it," Sweets added.
"Well my mom always said that it's just not realistic, and to focus on what is. Like what Winter is doing. She wants me to not only do something like that, but to make a lot of money doing it. Her reasoning is that so many people try to make it in that profession, and so many people don't. My odds are just so low that I shouldn't even go for it. But I know I'm a good actor, I just haven't been given a chance, or haven't taken classes. But I practice by myself sometimes. I look like a psycho but it makes me better. I just have no idea where to get started, '' Candy explained.
"Look… don't listen to her. If you have a dream that you want to go for then do it" Winter said.
"She's right. Fuck her. If you listen to her then you'll never try. Even if you fail then at least you'll know. You won't live the rest of your life wondering" Franklin explained.
"It's just a chance you have to take. Even if it's a sliver of hope, imagine if you achieve it. You'll be so happy, and look back at these moments and laugh" Humphrey said.
"But if I fail… then I'll live the rest of my life thinking what could have been," Candy said.
"But at least you'll know, and any financial trouble you get into their programs for that" Rick explained.
"Plus we would help you. Both financially and mentally. We want to help and see you succeed. We'll be there for you trust me, even if your mother isn't" I said. Candy smiled.
"Thanks guys" she said. There was a moment of silence which Rick broke.
"See? Conversation" he said.
"Yeah but we're not really learning about you though. We wanted to talk with you" Winter said. Rick shrugged.
"We'll get to me. Just because you want to know about me doesn't mean that the conversation has to be all about me. I can just be part of it, and you'll pick up all those things along the way whether or not you realize it" Rick explained. Winter simply smiled. She liked him. That was great,
"Humphrey" Candy smiled as she turned to her right. It was his turn.
"Oh well… I think we're both in the same boat actually. When it comes to the film industry I'm a huge nerd about it. I've actually been looking into directing and I think I'm gonna go for it. You know, work on films, possibly write them… have pretty actresses for the casting" Humphrey explained, making Candy blush a little, even through her fur. "You know I think Rick was still interested in it too," Humphrey said.
"Yeah. I'd still look into it. I wanted to do other things too though like maybe some law enforcement. Something like that. Maybe take some classes for self defense" Rick explained.
"Self defense? But you can already fight. We've all seen it" Lilly said. Rick shrugged.
"You can always get better at something Lills, and it's not to protect me" he replied. Rick knew I could defend myself as well, but it was more on the side of that I shouldn't have to if we could avoid it. I know he would more than die for me and that's why I loved him.
"So you two are gonna pursue that. That's cool, we'll all keep in contact right?" Winter asked.
"Of course. Why wouldn't we?" I asked.
"I don't know. Schedules, people get busy. It's a scary thought but it's true" Winter answered. As much as she was right these girls have just been alongside me for too long for me to just drop them.
"Well Humphrey and Shaky are family, they're sticking around no matter what. Rick is my mate and I've known you girls for too long to just forget about you. It's not gonna happen" I said.
"Aw, I didn't know we meant so much to you," Candy smiled. I smiled back and then looked over to Humphrey who looked to his right.
"What? I haven't graduated yet" Lilly said.
"Yeah but it's only one more year. You gotta have at least some idea" Humphrey told her. She thought about it and then shrugged.
"Hmm… maybe model or something" she said.
"A model huh? I Could see that with your snow white fur. It's gorgeous" Candy complemented. Lilly smiled as she pulled her wet and long hair back as if she was trying to dry it out.
"You really think so?" she asked. Candy nodded.
"It is pretty," Rick said.
"Soft too," Humphrey added. Lilly giggled and then looked to her right. It was Sweets.
"I honestly think I'm with Lilly on this one. Being a model seems like a good job for me. Maybe an actress as well. I've thought of them both even though I think I would star in different films" she explained. Was she really saying that she wanted to do porn?
"You mean porn?" Franklin asked.
"Well I wasn't gonna say it but I think it would be hot. Don't act like you wouldn't love it" she said. Franklin laughed.
"Yeah, I probably would," he replied.
"You guys are in a open relationship then?" Rick asked curiously. Sweets grabbed her breasts and looked at him seductively.
"Why? You interested?" she asked. Now it was Rick's turn to laugh.
"Sorry but I already have someone for that," he said.
"That's too bad. The more you talk the more I just want to attack you" Sweets replied. Thank God Rick was loyal. "Ugh, the pool helps but… believe me I would be wet either way. Anyway, your turn Frankie" she said, looking over at her boyfriend.
"Hm… I've always really been into graphic design. So probably something like that. In terms of the future I definitely want to have a pup with this one" Franklin explained as he got behind Sweets. I didn't see Franklin as the type to want pups. It made me look at him a little different honestly. In a lighter way anyway. "Although if she's serious about a career like that then we might have to wait awhile" he added.
"Hmm, pups. Wait though, when would you want a pup?" Sweets asked. I think she was thinking more of the act of making pups, rather than actually having one.
"Not until we're older obviously. But still, it's something to think about" Franklin said.
"Never took you for a family type of guy. Are you sure you're not just trying to make a good first impression?" Winter asked.
"Well if I was trying to do that then I wouldn't have asked my first question. At least not before the other ones'' Franklin said.
"Hm, fair, '' Winter replied. The group now turned to me. Instantly I felt pressured but couldn't figure out why.
"Um… well I always sort of wanted to be a writer. Books and stuff, make my own stories. But I would probably join Rick and Humphrey with their things too. See how it all goes" I explained.
"A writer? The hottest girl in school wants to write books?" Franklin asked.
"Why? Is that so strange?" I asked with a smug look and crossed arms.
"I think it comes from her love of horror and such. That was actually one of our first conversations. Horror has always had such a good and accepting community. So when it came to that, and we both figured out that we liked it, it was super easy to talk about. From there on out she was borrowing books, and we were watching movies. We still do" Rick explained before looking at me with a small smile. I smiled back and had to fight the urge to hug him. I know it wasn't for long but it felt as though we had been together for years, and that was a good thing in my eyes.
"So you shared hobbies? I'm guessing you talked a lot. You were always looking for someone who could listen" Winter said.
"Yeah… it's a shame I wasted so much time. He always had his eyes on me. The sad part is that if he asked me out I would have said no. It really goes to show what a bitch I was" I said, hating myself again.
"You were going through something. What matters is that you guys are here now right?" Candy said. I nodded but I still spoke out loud.
"I just wish I would have known sooner. Like… middle school maybe" I said.
"Would you have been as… active if you were?" Franklin asked. I thought for a moment, taking another look over at Rick who looked back at me.
"Yeah… we would have" I answered. Rick snickered, shaking his head. I swam over and gave him a kiss on the cheek. It was wet and sweet. He looked back and gave me a quick peck on the lips.
"Well Shaky was supposed to be here but he's kind of busy at the moment. I'm pretty sure he's with me and Rick though" Humphrey said. Most of us nodded when Rick turned to Winter again.
"We keep going like that and you'll know me well enough" he said. Winter smiled again.
"Okay. got any other topics?" she asked. I was glad to see that everyone was more than getting along well. Winter was a given, but I was glad to see the others liking Rick as well. Even if Sweets was getting rid of her filter more and more. We talked for a while, making conversation, getting them acquainted until hours went by, and we were no longer swimming.
Dad was cooking food on the grill, more of my parents' guests had arrived, and before the kids showed up we even had a small game with us in the pool. It may have just been volleyball but it was fun. It was teams of four. Me, Rick, Humphrey, and Lilly on one team, and Sweets, Candy, Franklin, and Winter on the other. We all had a great time, eventually winning out of three games. Eventually though the others showed up, and while it wasn't crowded like new years or something, I was still eyed by the early teens as I got out of the pool. It made me feel odd knowing that they were just eyeing my dripping wet fur and hair, thinking of God only knows what.
Humphrey was really the only one to stay in the pool, even though he got out with the rest of us, he eventually went back in after about two hours of sitting on the deck chairs. Rick, Lilly and Candy talked for a bit. I wasn't sure what they were talking about though because I stayed sitting with Winter on the deck chairs by the pool. We had rung out our tails and hair but that didn't change the fact that our fur was still dripping wet, so the chairs got wet as well. Lilly had called Rick over because apparently Candy was curious about something and was too scared to ask him herself, so Lilly called him over to show that there was nothing to be afraid of. We gave each other a quick kiss before he went and then I looked over to spot Sweets and Franklin sitting against the house with a plate of food in their hands. Now it was just me and Winter.
"So how are things?" she asked as she broke the silence between us. The sound of kids splashing in the pool was really the only thing heard. I say kids but really there was only one that was about seven, and the rest were about thirteen. At least they looked it. Two boys that just wouldn't stop staring.
"Things are fine. Why do you ask?" I replied. Winter looked over to me as she continued laying on the chair. I looked back to her as I waited for an answer.
"Well it's just that last time we talked about it you guys were still recovering, you weren't having sex, and the way you were talking about it you were understanding but… aggravated?" Winter suggested.
"Meh, not aggravated. Just long overdue. You know how much we love each other, and he was away during my heat, it just… it was a lot for me on top of everything else" I explained.
"Have you guys done anything yet?" Winter asked.
