CHAPTER 5.
The night passed with many questions being answered by both sides, as well as movies that Carrie didn't know could be made, this technology was too much for her but she was trying to understand.
Robin was right, he liked her and he liked her a lot. Carrie was easy to talk to and very quick with reasoning as well as acrobatics, and Dick promised to teach her a little more, since his self in her world didn't know her.
Robin watched the team sleep the next morning, everyone ended up sleeping in the living room, the TV turned off at some point in the night, probably by Kaldur. And being the first to wake up gave him time to talk to his mentor.
Bruce chatted with Dick by text, talking very superficially about what Carrie had said, but Dick managed to tie the dots together. Bruce was not protective of nothing, something happened to the second Robin in Carrie's world and Bruce was in the cave creating contingency after contingency so that this would never happen in his world.
Dick was also concerned about this and couldn't help but wonder what the other Robins would be like to come. Did they know him?
At first he didn't like seeing his colors on someone else, but from the conversation the night before, he understood that he couldn't be Wonder Boy forever, Robin was a cloak. A cloak that would eventually be passed on, and when that happens he'll need a new identity in a few years and, let's face it, Nightwing was pretty good, his alternate self had good taste.
-Perhaps I can train the new Robins of our world.- He smiled at the thought. Yes he would train them.
"Good morning." A whisper interrupted his thoughts.
Robin looked to the side to see Carrie yawning as she sat down.
''Hi.''
"Honestly, I thought it was a dream," she whispered.
Dick gave a small, awkward smile. He'd barely slept thinking about the answers she'd given him the night before. Translation, he spent the night swallowing his pride and convincing himself that Robin wouldn't be all he would ever be.
''Do you wanna eat something? Normally M'gann makes breakfast, but…" He offers and she nods.
With trained ease, both get up and walk around the mattresses where the rest of the team is.
"Do you always sleep in a mask?" She asked taking a seat on the kitchen stool.
''Only when I'm in the cave. B won't let me reveal my identity to them." Robin responds as she takes the bowls and cereal from the cupboard.
"But they're your team, sometime they're going to need to know…" She whispers, accepting the bowl and putting the cereal inside.
"Try to convince the bat of that." Dick rested his head on his fist.
Carrie snorted.
''In my first few months of Robin, for every thing I did or was going to do, B would add at the end of each order: 'do as I ask or you estall say goodbye'. I can't imagine what it would be like if I had a team."
Dick smothered a laugh, that sounded like Bruce. Carrie was shaking her head as she ate. An almost imperceptible movement made him lift his head to where his friends slept, Dick whispered. "I know you're awake, come eat."
Carrie frowned and looked too, seconds later Conner sighed and stood up.
She widened her eyes and looked at the first Robin. ''How did you know?''
''Clone of Superman. It's silly for a Kryptonian not to use his powers and Con is still learning." Dick replied and watched his friend walk up to them. ''Good day to you too.''
"Good morning," Conner replied quietly as he grabbed a bowl to join them.
"You know, you're not as grumpy as everyone thinks," Carrie commented.
The clone frowned at that.
''Believe someone who lives with a bat. You are so much nicer. You should smile more.''
"I keep telling him that."
"You also wouldn't smile much if your supposed mentor pretends you don't exist."
''Ignore it dude. He'll soon realize that you weren't to blame for any of this.'
''Look, I don't know you from my world. I actually don't even know Super that well, but I think he's losing a gold partner in you."
Conner broke into a small smile. ''Thanks.''
The three were silent for a while.
''You said yesterday that Robin had a team before the heroes were banned, the Titans. Do you think…" Conner sighed, steeling himself. ''Do I exist in your world?
''I do not know. I've never heard of cloning in my world so I don't think so. I am really sorry.''
"Do you know who the members of this team were?" Robin asked. Last night so many questions were asked that she couldn't answer this one.
''Robin, Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, Aqualad and Speedy. It had more members, a lot more, but I don't know who they were, the records were lost. Both the league and the Titans.''
Robin nodded. Her curiosity seemed to run through her mind, who were these people, what were the Titans like? Perhaps one of the next Robins would be able to answer.
"Maybe another Robin can answer," Carrie exclaimed just as he thought.
''Well, Canary said she will come at ten, we will probably have a training session. Do you think any Robin will make it there?" Conner asked.
''Maybe yes maybe no. Zatara did not know the transport time of each Robin. He didn't even know how many will come!'
"But will so many come?" a new voice asked, startling the three. Kaldur sat down beside Carrie. "Good morning." He greets them before continuing. "I mean, Zatara said a lot of the Robins were the same, so I don't think many will come."
Robin sighed. ''I hate waiting to find out.''
"There are two of us." Carrie pointed her spoon at him.
"Three." Conner shrugged.
Kaldur shook his head at the three. Carrie was practically part of the team now, that he was sure of, one more for the young Atlantean to watch.
"Oh no." Robin jumped to his feet, the movement making the Atlantean look at the wonder boy, who was glowing again, though his face wasn't showing as much pain as it had last time.
"Is he okay?" Carrie asked a little too loudly, waking the rest of the team.
"What?" Wally asked groggily. ''Where?''
"Robin is glowing." Superboy pushes Carrie away from the table.
"But now?" Artemis gets up. Fully awake now, although she was still on top of the blankets.
"Has it been like this before?" Carrie asked, looking between the waking team and her glowing predecessor.
Aqualad nodded, his attention on his younger and more experienced partner, ready to pick him up should he need to.
The glow stopped and Robin sighed. "That hurt less this time." He leaned against the table.
"Okay, but where is he?" Carrie looked around the room.
M'gann sat on the mattress she was sleeping on and stretched. ''It takes some time. At least with you it took a while.'
"I thought it was quick." Wally yawned.
A glow appeared above them.
"Oh oh." Wally's eyes widened and he jumped on top of Artemis to get her out of the way.
"HEY!" she yelled as she was thrown to the side.
M'gann flew out of the covers just as a teenager in a yellow cape fell onto the inflatable mattresses with a scream. It was pure luck that they didn't deflate with his fall.
"He falls on the mattress, why does he fall on the mattress and I have to fall to the floor?" Carrie looks at Robin, who shrugs.
Intruder alerts go off in the cave and Kaldur moves to turn them off. The league should already know that another Robin has arrived.
''What is all this noise? That was a bit much don't you think D, Al will kill us if he sees us in uniform up here!" The boy grunted as he tried to unwind from the covers.
The boy gets up and stops scared at the sight of the team. He was a teenager too, probably fourteen or fifteen years old, and he looked nothing like their Robin, this one was blond and his skin a little lighter, his eyes were covered in a green mask, but what really stood out was the uniform. (A/N: Original Robin uniform, yes that uniform.)
"Uh hi?" Wally smiles nervously.
Artemis holds back the laugh before it escapes.
Something that doesn't go unnoticed by the team or by this new Robin, who gets into a position that would be easy for him to fight or run if he needs to.
Aqualad approaches with hands raised in surrender, choosing to take a calm approach. "I'm Aqualad." He introduced himself. "I know you have questions, but you have to trust me when I say we're not your enemies."
The boy seems to look at the group, focusing exclusively on the two Robins behind everyone, especially Dick, they slept in uniform and Aqualad was grateful for that now as he relaxes and his posture returns to normal. ''Let me guess, dimensional travel?
''Yes. Our Robin was hit by a weapon that connects the multiverses, you are the second Robin to be brought here.'
The boy sighed again. "Just when I tell Batman I wouldn't do anything like that again." He shook his head, trying not to look at this version of his older brother and mentor.
"Excuse me?" Artemis raised an eyebrow. Still not taking this Robin seriously. Seriously what is this outfit?
"Have you dealt with this before?" Robin, their Robin asked.
"Yeah, and if you're who I think you are, then so you too." he replied. ''Anyway. Do they know their identities? You know, yours and the fa-Batman.''
"No, they don't."
Carrie whispered to herself, low enough that only Conner could hear. "I'm glad I didn't say your name."
"Are we really ignoring the fact that he's dealt with the multiverse before?" Kid Flash yells, now wide awake.
''I've already dealt with this with my team. This must be one of the worlds considered new, so I guess you guys haven't confirmed that theory before…" The boy looks a little worried.
"It's likely." Aqualad nodded.
"And will you simply believe us?" M'gann asked. ''I mean, we really are heroes, but what if we werent?''
''No, this is still being analyzed, but considering that I'm at your base with two other Robins so I can consider myself safe for now. You just have to remember that I was trained by Batman, Batwoman, and Nightwing, so I know how to handle you if I need to." He points to Carrie now. ''By the way, you are Carrie, arent you? I've been to a world where you were Gotham's vigilante, we fought together once time."
"Really?" She widens her eyes excitedly.
''Yes. It's likely she's another version of you, but it still counts." He smiled and turned his attention to the team. ''I...I'm the second Robin in my world. Call me BJ. I recognize Wally, but the rest I dont know who you are.''
''BJ? How in?" Robin asked, the beginnings of a smirk on his face.
"Exactly what you're thinking." He smiles back. Some things don't change at all.
"Mom was very creative on that."
"Oh that's too good." Robin smiled and even Carrie gave a low laugh.
''I am Kaldur, Aqualad, these are Artemis, M'gann or Miss Mars and Conner or Superboy.''
''Nice. I know Superboy from my world and I have a Supergirl too, are you Uncle Super's son here too?
"No, I'm your clone." Conner responded with a growl, ignoring the soft "uncle?" Wally asked, feeling like he'd have to answer that question over and over again.
BJ raised eyebrows and spoke enthusiastically. ''A clone? Serious! This is even cooler! Are you like him or do your powers differ? How old are you? In my world that's impossible, although they try."
That…was not the reaction Conner was expecting.
''Another nerd? Is this serious?" Artemis sighed. "It's too soon for that."
"It's actually after nine o'clock," M'gann replied.
"To be Robin is to be curious by nature." Robin responded to the teasing, finally reaching over to shake BJ's hand. ''Do you know which Earth you came from?
''Earth 82 .'' was the answer.
"You guys seem pretty awake for a Saturday morning." A new voice startled them. Everyone turned to see Superman standing in front of them with a smile. They hadn't heard the zeta tubes announce the arrival of the man of steel.
A/N: Only one person got it right, yes it was BJ, the original idea was to bring Jason in this chapter, but I thought BJ would be better because of the plot. I wasn't going to spoilers, but as most of you begged for a specific Robin, here's SPOILER: Jason will be next in a few chapters.
