Ripped from the ground by an angry goddess and tossed into the air, Yusei went flying, tossing the cards in his hand further into the sky. Turbulently tossed as though he weighed no more than the cards that were soaring ever higher. Before he was ripped out of that invisible force by the very metals of the earth itself. Determined to spite the skies above, the metal chains that had been lashed to Yusei's limbs went taunt. Leaving him for a brief minute knowing what a kite felt like on a blustery day.
Yet the force that struck him was of such power that the wind it generated kept him drifting in the air. With such intensity it caused the shackles to dig into his wrists and ankles. The thick metal that he had been clamped into cut the flow of blood to his hands and feet. Numbing him when he finally, painfully, hit concrete.
Stars burst behind his closed eyelids, turning black into a hazy gray. Electricity plucked at the nerves running down Yusei's back and shoulder. Paralysis over took his body for an eon before time shrank back to its normal length. Blood stained the ground, as Yusei struggled to roll himself onto his side. Needing to be able to move as much as a person needed air. Fear was barely suppressed at the intensity of pain he was experiencing.
Aki wasn't holding back, each attack was at full force of the Duel Spirit, Possibly coupled with an extra dose of her own power. Concrete was fracturing outward from under her attacks, from the epicenter that was Yusei. Outwards towards where multiple buildings stood unprotected against someone as unique as Aki. Any of them could be destroyed with the right type of strike from the duelist. Yet there was, among all the fear and concern for the surroundings, a relief to find Aki and clearly physically ok. So long as he could free her before she did something she would regret, did it matter how badly she hit him?
Short stitched breaths followed what felt as a crack among his ribs. Gasps were actively fought against due to the pain of sudden inhalation. Somehow the Duel Disk Yusei was wearing had survived that attack. With the few defense turned monsters he had remaining still attached to the disc. Despite being purely holograms showing that the internal systems were unaffected. Despite the computer systems saying that Yusei's game Life Points were protected, his battered body clearly disputed it.
Struggling to hold his chest as the large, fumbling chains that held him down weighed his arm. They clanked and clattered as he dragged his arm over his ribs. His cards drifted down all around him, four cards, out of reach even if he could stand easily. Those attached to the duel disk held on miraculously while, for lack of better word, a runner gathered his cards. Uniformly dressed as the others, black hair, large glasses, featureless to Yusei's pain rattled mind and blurred by the bursts of light in his vision.
The world was darker than he would have liked. Both in the approaching night, and the pain that racked his body. Shadows were longer than he expected, reaching for him from the small buds of grass that was rising on the concrete. Their strain to cushion him bringing only regret and frustration as they clearly wanted to help him. While he struggled to move, with an uncertainty if he could even get to his knees.
The man gathered the cards and handed them to Yusei.
A sickening gesture to the depravity of Divines' own nature. If Yusei could still fight, he could use the chains he was shackled on the guy. Holding the man hostage and force them to release Yusei from his shackles. Save they knew he wasn't a killer, and with Aki present they could just have her deal with him using her Spirits. If Yusei 'was' willing to kill... he was passed the point of trying. His body ached too much to try anything but to get up. Try and hold off on a conclusion. Jack and Crow 'had' to be on their way. There was no way for his Mark to 'not' transmit the pain he was in to the others. They would come. He'd have help in getting that visor off Aki.
He just had to hold out...
Ahead of him, Witch of the Black Rose hovered with her wand clutched in her hands. She had been speaking loudly of her fears with her silence. Summoned to the field, her doll styled face managed to express her panic and fear with the pinched lips. Her glass doll eyes kept glancing away at all the men that were watching the duel. For all her disdain for Yusei, this was clearly a line that was crossed that bothered her deeply.
When Witch of the Black Rose had been ordered to attack. She had shown naked panic, looking back at Aki before looking at Yusei with apologies reflected in her smooth gemstone eyes. The Spirit shut her eyes in anxiety before placing her small hand over them and turned away. Waving her wand at Yusei erratically unconcerned if the attack hit him or missed.
Maybe they understood what Divine had done to Aki and saw her current behavior as a threat to all she had regained. Or maybe that bastard threatened to destroy her deck and replace the cards, cutting them off from her. As much grief as Witch gave Yusei, well, she was protective and he didn't mind. Knowing Aki had someone looking after her had been comforting.
While Aki stood behind Witch, a slight sway to her stance, her head lulling just a bit. She had a duel disk strapped to her arm and her field was filled with her usual assortment of spirits. Never had her garden look so scared for what was happening. Those with faces, like Witch of the Black Rose, used them to express their plight. Those lacking faces, shivered and trembled where they were placed inflicting the damage as ordered.
All the while Aki was obvious.
Protected by his absence, Divines' finger prints were all over the duel and the whole area. Psychic duelists ringed the area despite being vastly inferior to Aki, they would be a threat to Yusei easily. Even Divine was only able to push his own vaulted abilities so far, with a distance pitifully short compared to Aki. Yet what one lacked in strength, could be made up for in guile as proven by this whole set up.
Aki's deck was frightened into silence.
The gear she wore over her head was clearly doing something. By degrees. She didn't need instructions to avoid stuff in her way, stepping up when she approached the raised concrete foundation. Obeying instructions given to her by her current handlers with the same punctuality she had previously afforded Divine. Yet she attacked Yusei with the same viciousness as she used when she was the Witch.
Now Yusei understood why he had been chained down.
Twisting the knife with Aki just out of reach. With almost every avenue that he could to pull Aki back mockingly blocked. His voice had cracked the hold Divine had when Aki dueled Misty. That Divine had gone to these lengths showed that he was not a man to be trifled with. He had studied from that battle, planned for Yusei's position to be strengthened with Divines' forced absence.
Agony that went beyond physical pain gripped at Yusei. Aki was unresponsive to anything he said, her deck was too afraid to speak. She was here, alive, and with no one able to reach her from Divines' control. That Divine could get his strongest weapon returned to him filled Yusei with a cold dread. Because 'if' Divine was still in prison, if Aki was lead to release him the punishment she would receive would be severe.
More over, breaking him out of prison didn't sound like the full extent of what Divine would need Aki for. How long, how terrible the acts that he would have her commit. Divine was a man who saw Aki and others merely as tools, how far he would go was something that Yusei was afraid to find out.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Carly, Rua and Ruka \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
"Jack! Please!" the twins begged from the back seat, wondering how Jack could choose 'now' of all times to be stubborn and thick headed. Knowing the cards actual meanings had silenced him for a spell. 'Boisterous' Jack Atlas, had been silenced just by a clarification and the twins' need for his confidence were left feeling cold in his silence.
"Its not as though Kuribon isn't leading us there anyway..." Ruka added as an incentive.
"FINE!" Jack roared, his voice filling every inch of the small car. Before adding a comparatively small voiced, "if Carly is ok with it."
"No problem, I am perfectly okeydokie with this," Carly answered smartly, since she wasn't going to change her driving directions now. Well nothing short of a meteor hitting the earth right on the roads she needed to take.
"I'm turning around, I'll join up with Crow stay out of trouble!" Jack ordered before hanging up the call.
From the outside looking into the little yellow Beetle that Carly drove it could easily have been mistaken for a simple outing. Ruka would point eagerly towards something outside the car, and the conversation going on among them seemed lively. Yet turn the view inward, from Ruka's own point of view and the whole of the car was seemingly chaos.
The fairies were out in force, anxiously flying in and out of the car. Serving as a second set of eyes to help Kuribon with her guidance. The small furry fairy blocked the view of the passenger side of the car as it hovered. Giving its reports with the same grim determination of a news caster reporting a disaster. A strange contrast given the seriousness of its voice and that its 'voice' was a soft purring sound to start with.
Carly was fairly sitting behind the wheel and vibrating with her own thoughts. Only half listening to Ruka, just enough to ensure she was going in the right direction. 'Aki is alive! Aki is alive! My readings weren't wrong! Aki's alive! Not only alive, but she got the best fortune!' Her heart felt like it would burst out of her chest from the elation of both confirmation and that her friend was alive. Only for her ribs to serve as a bony fist containing her jubilation with the reminder that she drew 'two' cards. Not one.
The worst fortune, now known to be Yuseis'.
Drawn together, with each card uniquely assigned. Even if Jack 'had' told her to go and take the twins home. She was staying on the case, reporter curiosity not even necessary.
While Rua was privy to the sight of his sister grabbing her arm when the Mark began to glow. Flinching from pain, his sisters' frown was all he needed to know as she wrapped her fingers around her arm. Already having heard of Carly's reading his mind went straight to Yusei as he wrapped his arms around Ruka. 'Big Brother Yusei? He's the worst fortune?' Unbidden memories of watching Yusei duel Aki back when she worked for Divine came to the front of his thoughts.
Just how brutal Aki could be when unrestrained and out of control. If Yusei was going to have a 'worst fortune' what could be worst? Nothing short of being killed by her and knowing that the people who had kidnapped her would go on to do other bad things. It felt like the most reasonable, even logical conclusion to this whole scenario. A scenario that filled Rua's eyes with tears as he began to bawl even as he held onto Ruka.
Leaving Kuribon's own eyes wide with desperation as she determinedly tried to zero in on Regulus. Realizing as only a Kuri could, that if Ruka stopped using her power the Duel Spirit would be useless in helping them.
"What's going on? Why are you crying?" Carly worriedly asked, glancing up into her rear view mirror to check on the pair. Was Ruka... oh oooh no...
"Big Brother Yusei..." Ruka answered between gulps of air. "I sense pain coming from him... that's twice in one day..."
'Damn it... Jack admitted that Yusei wrecked, even if he was driving at normal speeds. I can imagine the physical injuries he's already gotten. If he's getting beat up again...' Carly thought in mounting frustration. 'Think Carly! Think!' "Ruka I need you to help me with something!" Carly finally spoke up, grim faced and determined.
"Ye... yes ma'am?" Ruka squeaked out.
"I want my fairies to go find Yusei, Kuribon is leading us to his deck, but we already know that he doesn't have it on him. Once they find Yusei they need to straight back to me, so you can tell me where to find him. Then I can contact Jack, right now the pair is driving blind, we need to give them a direction to go in."
"You got it Carly!" the Fairies called out as they dashed out of the car. Flying off in the general direction that Kuribon had been sending them in. Invisible to the naked eye they began spreading out so to better canvas the area.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Crow \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
He glanced at the time on his Blackbird, as he road through the streets, the cars passing by him away from the area of the explosion. All the drivers he could see, even if it was just a glance, wore sturdy work clothes. Industrial work clothes and no one was sticking around, perhaps it was just Crow, but they appeared to be driving even 'faster' away from the area. Smart move though.
If it was a pipe burst or gas leak there could be injured. He hadn't really gotten a strong understanding of dock or warehouse work. Already the side of the road Crow was driving on was empty and would make the trip for an ambulance all the faster. The sky was getting dark enough that Crow couldn't make out with confidence any sign of smoke. The air was also clear of any chemicals or smoke that he could tell.
Yet it was when his senses were on high alert that he was startled by a call. One that immediately began by barking into his ears.
"Crow!" Jacks' imperious tone was agitated, what was sadly becoming his only speaking voice during this whole unpleasant situation.
"Listening, how's Yusei?" Crow asked as the soft evening shades of color began rousing the street lamps.
"We've been tricked! That bastard helped kidnap Yusei!" Jack roared, the impact of the words enough to send Crow to the side of the road and breaking hard.
"What? What did you say?" Crow asked, looking about as though the guy would come sauntering out from the growing shadows.
"We don't have time! Apparently Yusei wasn't just in an accident, he was kidnapped. With the bastards taking Yusei's deck and throwing it away, probably around the area where YuseiGo is." Jack reported, the sound of wind hinted between his pauses for breath. "Without his decks, Ruka can't just zero in on his location."
"Shit!" Crow banged his fist out of frustration on the duel disk of his BlackBird. The memory of that 'teen' coming back vividly to his mind. 'And I just let that bastard walk away... shit, shit, shit! It meant that Yusei wasn't at the hospital, the pain he experienced wasn't some knee jerk reaction to possibly getting a shoulder reset or some such nonsense.
"He's out there somewhere, as much as I hate it, Carly 'is' bringing the twins to YuseiGo. Regulus is standing guard over the deck so they'll have it. Our duty is to find Yusei," Jack instructed, no longer having to present himself as 'THE KING' for Carly or the twins. His concern and worry creeping into his voice. "Crow, Aki's alive... think on that for a moment."
"I saw an explosion, I..." Crow began, the issue with Aki and her past wasn't something he was well versed in. But he knew of her power... of her abilities... "Jack... That explosion happened when my Mark flared up. I thought it was cuz Yusei was at the hospital, maybe getting something reset and that the timing was just..." Crow paused as he tried to settle his thoughts straight. "Think that Yusei was at the explosion?"
"Explosion?" Jack asked before shaking his head, "check it out regardless. We need Ruka's spirits to zero in on Yusei, all we can do is canvas the whole area in hopes of coming across him." Jack advised before shaking his head. "Crow, we didn't bother to tell you much about Aki's old group... that group is dangerous. Not on Aki's level, but they can still project magic cards into the real world. Be careful."
