Kagome threw a barrier up around Hojo before letting an arrow fly, purposely missing the harpy as they stepped out of the shadows.
"Why don't you pick on someone your own size?" she yelled, another one whirring by her head.
The youkai's eyes narrowed, flames rising to her knees as she turned around. "Only cowards attack from behind," she hissed.
Kagura snorted. "I'm sure all your underlings heed that warning too. Your nest reeks of blood."
"We do what we need to survive," she said, spinning her spear around in a blatant show of power. "Including disposing of insignificant bugs turned trespasser." She dove at the twins, metal slicing through stone as they rolled out of the way.
Kagura took to the sky, keeping their foe distracted as Kagome circled around, putting herself between the harpy and Hojo.
"Are you hurt?" she asked, eyes glued to her sister.
"Only a few scratches," he replied. "You are like my guardian angel. And as beautiful as one—"
"Stay within the barrier," she cut in, not in the mood for his saccharine words. Knowing Hojo, he'd somehow stumbled upon a youkai nest right after the younglings had hatched. Kagome was surprised he wasn't covered in peck marks—or worse.
Kagura dodged the tip of the spear, fire singeing the edge of her feather, and Kagome grit her teeth, her next arrow clanging against the weapon and leaving it useless. The youkai hissed before her power flared, the single blade shifting into a trident, and she changed direction, deeming Kagome more of a threat.
