Another barrier appeared, the youkai shrieking in fury when her trident bounced off it. Kagome raised her bow, looking down the line of her next arrow.

"It doesn't need to end this way," she said, Kagura landing on the other side, effectively boxing her in. "Just let us all go, and everyone stays in one piece."

The youkai's eyes shifted to Hojo, bleeding red as she gripped her weapon. "No! His blood must be spilled!" She whirled around, sending flames after Kagura. It was enough of a distraction, Kagome's barrier disintegrating before reforming around his sister.

The harpy grinned, and Kagome was barely able to lift her bow in time to deflect her trident, a lock of her hair floating to the ground as she braced herself. Wings flapped, momentarily blinding her, and Kagome tried to push her back, gritting her teeth as fire licked at her heels.

She heard Kagura cry out for her, the wind picking up, but it only fanned the flames, the heat rising as she tried to figure out which way was up. The tip of the trident cut into her chest, drawing blood before she managed to shove her away.

The harpy rallied, spinning her weapon around in a flourish before diving again, but there was an explosion before she could reach Kagome, a blood-curdling scream piercing the air as the trident shattered, taking the youkai's arm with it.
