Pieces of metal fell to the ground as the harpy fell back, cursing the loss of her limb as she frantically looked around. Kagome met Kagura's gaze, confusion written all over her face.

There's been no other youki.

The youkai glared down at them, eyes as red as her armour. "Cowards! You send your messenger in as a means of coercion, then attack me when I decline?"

"We didn't—"

"Silence!" she screeched. Flames shot out, forcing Kagome to roll out of the way, the scent of scorched earth burning her nostrils as she tried to get her bearings. "I will not be taken in by your lies!"

Another wave of flames; Kagome felt the heat on her face, reiki forming around her hands as she dodged again. She knew this breed was territorial, but she couldn't honestly see Hojo as a threat. There had to be a way out of this.

"Humans are all the same," the harpy hissed. "Your stench clogs the air and the land, but I will wash you from this world!"

Kagome sent up a flare of sparks, dousing the flames as she got to her feet. "We haven't done anything!" Kagura took her shot, just missing her shoulder, the two youkai moving around in a synchronized dance.

"Fool." She grabbed onto Kagura's feather, eyes narrowing before it turned to ash. Kagura gasped before plummeting to the ground, Kagome sprinting to reach her in time. Arms outstretched, they landed in a pile of groans and tangled limbs.

"Idiot! Why did you—"

The harpy sneered. "Accept your fate." She dove again, claws elongating, intent on slashing through flesh and bone. Kagome covered Kagura, reaching into the recesses of her reiki. It may not be enough for a barrier, but she would protect her sister.

The flames suddenly went out, and when the twins looked up, bits of the broken trident were sticking out of the harpy's chest.
