Yet another year passed Dino by and in that time he has become a well established and respected boss. Unfortunately he still hasn't met Rosetta after so much time, but that may change…
"Another exhausting day…"Dino mumbled to himself while signing his last document. "Done! Finally…" He then fell back into his chair with a satisfying sigh…just as his right hand man unexpectedly opened the door to his office.
"Romario!" He exclaimed with surprise while darting into a straight sitting position. "I hope you don't have any more work for me…"
"No Boss, not at the moment," the black haired mustached man replied, chuckling when he heard him sigh with satisfaction. "Actually you have a visitor. She is waiting for you in the guest lounge-." - he barely started the next sentence before Dino made a mad dash out the door - "That man…" As he finished he shook his head with a smile.
Meanwhile the Cavallone boss had reached the room in question, but paused before entering. He knew his right hand man had mentioned a 'she', but was it Rosetta he was referring to? He had strong feelings that it could be no other but even so it had been roughly six years since she had left.
There was a good chance that she wouldn't be quite the same Rosetta he remembered, but at the same time he believed he wouldn't be the same Dino either.
He quickly shook his head and thought, 'Damn, I'm thinking in circles. Enough of this!'
Dino reached for the knob but hesitated for another moment. In the end he resolved that he couldn't keep his guest waiting so he took a deep breath to calm himself down and then opened the door.
She was looking out the window so her back was facing him as he entered, but Dino was absolutely sure it was Rosetta now. Right after the door had opened she turned to face him and smiled softly.
She looked very calm and mature, and her hair had grown to the middle of her back. She was currently wearing a white long sleeved button up shirt and a dark grayish blue high waisted pencil skirt with a pair of one inch heels to match.
"Rosetta…" the Cavallone boss uttered after what felt like an eternity of silence. "Wow. You look…amazing."
"You don't look too bad yourself," she replied while crossing the room so she was standing closer. He now noticed that she grew taller too, but he still had almost a foot on her. "Sorry I couldn't make it to your inheritance ceremony. I really wanted to go but something came up that was more important and needed my immediate attention."
"It's okay. I understand, though Emilio showed up instead and decided to give me a hard time…"
The Mezzanotte boss chuckled. "To be fair I heard you gave him just as hard a time. I guess you two still haven't overcome your differences."
The Cavallone boss looked surprised which quickly changed to disappointment. "You've…already spoken with Emilio?"
"I talk with him all the time. I'm his boss after all." Rosetta answered simply. "I haven't personally visited him yet however. I wanted to meet with you first…"
Dino blushed at her comment and then hastily offered her a seat. She accepted and so the two of them sat across from each other.
"So…was the parka to your liking…?" The brunette asked with a little anxious expectation.
"Yes, I wear it so much that I'm practically known by it now," the blonde replied proudly. "That and all of my tattoos."
"I heard about the tattoos. I never really pegged you as that kind of guy."
Dino deflated a little, letting out a defeated sigh. "I think Emilio had a hand in that…" he admitted. "He showed off his Mezzanotte tattoo when he got it and that was that…"
"Oh…" Rosetta uttered with a low exhale, looking sad for a second. She then decided to change the subject and lighten the mood. "So I've also heard that you've been to Japan on more than one occasion…"
"Well Reborn called me over and I had no choice but to obey." The Cavallone boss answered sheepishly before adopting a serious expression. "But I was also curious about his new student…"
"You must be referring to Tsunayoshi Sawada." The Mezzanotte concluded with thought. "Considering how he lives he may give Reborn a harder time than you did."
Dino's eyebrows rose with mild interest. "So you've met him too then?"
"No, but I've heard plenty of reports on all the kinds of trouble he's gotten into since meeting his tutor. Because of that I've had to deploy one of my members to Namimori indefinitely to keep an eye on things." Rosetta explained. "Furthermore, when I met with Reborn he advised against me meeting with his student. He said that he wouldn't be ready to meet me for some time, considering what my famiglia is involved in."
"Speaking of which…" the Cavallone boss spoke hesitantly, unsure of whether or not to bring up his concerns. "I eventually found out what happened six years ago, and I assume you left partially to find your missing family. Did you…ever end up finding them?"
"I can't give you all the details, but I can at least answer with a no. I haven't been able to find them at all, but I'm not giving up any time soon."
"Well I have a few connections now that I'm a boss. Maybe I can lend a han-." Dino tried to offer some sort of help but Rosetta quickly shot him down.
"No. I appreciate the offer but I'm sure when you became boss you were able to establish strong ties with your allies. The Mezzanotte isn't and can't be one of them."
"Why can't we become allies now? We're both bosses. Surely we can come to some understanding."
The brunette turned away with an upset look on her face, unable to meet his gaze. "I'm only a sort of proxy boss…" she explained softly. "I have the position but there's only so much I can do. I'm forbidden from certain acts and making new allies is one of them."
"A proxy…boss?" The Cavallone uttered with confusion.
"I'm sorry but that's all I can tell you, so please don't inquire any further." The Mezzanotte boss pleaded before standing up. "Now if you'll excuse me it's getting late and I have an important meeting tomorrow." - she then walked to the door but stopped before leaving - "I'll be staying somewhere nearby, so we'll at least be seeing more of each other…"
She sounded hopeful but Dino didn't respond, watching silently as she left.
'Rosetta Mezzanotte there is no doubt in my mind that you have changed a lot more than I had expected…' he pondered to himself, feeling only concern for his old friend. 'Just now you looked like you had lived through something you shouldn't have. I had hoped we would become closer after your return but living apart for so long may have caused a rift between us instead…'
