Tsuna and his friends had indeed disappeared…ten years into the future.
It was there that they learned some shocking truths and were given the task of taking down the Millefiore whose intent was to take over the world.
By now the Vongola were successful in storming the enemy's base in Namimori and in turn gained a couple new allies as well as new weapons in the form of box animals.
Tsuna had just opened his, unleashing a monster he had to fight off before future Dino arrived on the scene. He claimed he was there to help them with their training, but Reborn somehow knew that the Cavallone boss had another more personal reason…
"Dino, you said before that you came to help us with training," the young hitman commented once most of the males had gathered in the meeting room after their meal. "But am I wrong in thinking that there's another reason?"
"You're not wrong, Reborn. Even though I haven't seen you in years you still amaze me with your sharp perceptiveness." His former student uttered in response, sounding baffled and yet looking sadly nostalgic.
He then pulled a photo of Rosetta and himself out of his pocket and placed it on the table while continuing with a serious tone. "I came to Namimori to help train you all, that is true. But I also came in search of Rosetta, a…really good friend of mine."
Reborn frowned in response. "You're telling me that it's been ten years and the two of you still haven't gotten together?"
"Wait so are they…more than friends?!" Tsuna piped in with shock.
"Yes, and no…We haven't formally gotten together because Rosetta's still trying to sort things out with her family. She's a boss too after all." Dino answered.
"She's…a boss too?!" Tsuna made another outburst but quickly went quiet when threatened at gunpoint by his tutor.
"Yes. It's a long story however - one that you should wait for her to tell you herself." The blonde answered. "Anyway, because Rosetta happens to be quite an influential boss, Byakuran no doubt targeted her much like your future self, Tsuna. He requested a meeting with her to discuss a possible alliance but in reality he only wanted the influence she had and so brainwashed her."
Dino slid the photo aside, revealing another photo of the woman, only she looked cold and distant. Her hair was straight and all brushed to the left side and she wore a combination of the white and black Millefiore uniforms.
"This was taken not too long ago and sent to me by the older Hibari along with a message that she had been spotted here in Namimori. After seeing this I tried to get here as soon as possible so I could hear more from him but unfortunately he'd already switched with his past self." The Cavallone boss turned to Giannini. "I was hoping that with your tech you may have picked something up as well?"
He immediately went to searching on his monitor for what the boss asked for but unfortunately the systems picked up no such thing. Dino had a feeling Rosetta was still somewhere in Namimori however, so he left the lookout duties to his men so he could focus on training Hibari.
The game of Choice and a short return to the past happened without her appearance and the Cavallone boss was starting to lose hope when Daisy ambushed him and his student while on the school grounds.
Dino tried to fend off the enemy with one of his strongest whip attacks but Daisy saw right through it, dodging every strike until he reached the Cavallone boss. Dino braced himself for impact but felt none as the enemy's attack was deflected and he was sent flying backwards.
"Sorry, but the blonde is my prey!" A female announced smugly from the rooftop.
Everyone looked up to see none other than Rosetta, looking exactly as she did in the photo Dino received from future Hibari.
She continued with, "I heard that you've been looking for me, Cavallone. I won't be going anywhere, so come up here and meet me. Don't keep me waiting," before walking away from the edge.
Upon hearing what she had said, the Cavallone boss made his way to the roof after making sure Hibari would face his opponent and entrusting Romario to watch over him.
Dino still ran all the way to the roof despite the fact that Rosetta said she wouldn't be leaving. "You…You kept your word." He uttered with surprise between gasps of air once he had reached the roof and saw her standing there.
"Of course. I would never disobey Byakuran's orders." The brunette replied as a matter of factly. "And his order was to keep you occupied while Daisy takes out that Vongola down there."
"You're not usually one to follow orders. You make them." The Cavallone boss commented, gazing at her with pity. "Just what has happened to you, Rosetta?"
"I have been freed." She answered. "Now I am no longer shackled by any burdens I previously had. I can do whatever I choose, provided I'm not disobeying Byakuran."
"If you're still following orders then that isn't freedom." The blond argued. "You need to realize that he has a tight leash on you and that's not good."
"How do you know what's good or not for me? We don't know each other on a personal level."
"…It looks like Byakuran has sealed your memories, too." Dino concluded with determination. "If I want you back then I guess I'll have to bring you to your senses myself."
"Not without a fight you won't." Rosetta challenged him while shifting into a fighting stance.
Dino hesitantly followed suit. "…If I must."
Immediately she made the first move by twirling her metal pole before disappearing into a cloud of swirling indigo colored mist.
"Sorry that move doesn't work on me." The Cavallone boss announced confidently while listening for any movement. Quickly he pinpointed her location and cracked his whip in that direction, catching hold of her weapon with his.
"Damn it! How?!" She exclaimed after being forced to appear.
The blonde smirked in response. "Little do you know that I'm quite familiar with your special abilities."
"Guess I'll have to use brute force then." The brunette growled and jerked her weapon away, freeing it from his whip's grip. She then ran towards him and used her pole to vault herself forward for a powerful kick.
Dino quickly responded by crossing his arms to defend himself. Her kick landed with enough force to knock him back against a wall. He let out a short gasp when realizing that he had been pinned but swiftly regained his composure to dodge the punch she threw at his face.
After the successful dodge Dino let out a small smile of relief and then quickly grabbed her wrist, smirking when he realized the somewhat compromising position they were in.
"Usually this would be the other way around but I don't mind doing things differently…" he muttered in a sultry tone almost jokingly while pulling her closer.
Rosetta's face immediately became beet red in response. "Get your hands off me…" she uttered with rage while grabbing the hand that was holding hers and pulling away. "You pervert!" She then threw him over her shoulder and slammed him into the ground.
For a moment the Cavallone boss looked disoriented as he struggled to get up. "Sorry I…" he muttered slowly. "I forgot you weren't yourself and got carried away."
The brunette glared at him angrily. "How many times do I have to tell you that I am myself?!"
"You're not, and the fact that you're on Byakuran's side proves it." Dino commented seriously, standing straight once more. "Otherwise you'd be searching for your missing family, specifically your brother."
"My only family is the Millefiore."
"That's not true!" Dino shouted, feeling utterly lost. "How am I supposed to-?!"
He then stopped short when remembering something she had told him before leaving to meet with Byakuran…
"I wanted to let you know that if something should happen to me and I end up drifting away…" Rosetta stated out of the blue when visiting with Dino. "If I do, then you must use Vero's name to bring me back."
"I must use…our son's name?" The Cavallone boss uttered curiously.
"Yes, his name resonates the strongest with me, so please remember…"
'That's it!' Dino thought before asking aloud, "What about…Vero? What will he think when he finds out that he won't see you again?"
"V…ero…?" Rosetta muttered slowly, her eyebrows knitting together with confusion. "Who is that? I don-." Her eyes then widened and she bent over, looking as if she was in pain. "What is this? I feel…intense pain and yet…" she continued with difficulty. "These feelings which are not mine are resonating with me deeply. I can't…I can't take it anymore!"
All the while Dino stood nearby, watching with concern for a moment. Finally he couldn't bear to see her in pain anymore and so with one swift strike to the back of her neck he knocked her out.
"Sorry I couldn't help you sooner, Rosetta…" he said after catching her in his arms. "I swear after the battle is over I'll do my best to bring you back to your senses."
He then remembered Hibari had his own battle and walked to the edge of the roof to see how he was doing. The Cavallone boss smiled upon seeing his student's success before reporting his good news to Tsuna.
The battles raged on and there were many struggles in bound but Tsuna and his friends came out victorious in the end. Soon the time came for all who traveled to the further had to return to the past, but Dino didn't want to let them go without saying goodbye first.
"Hey Tsuna, I just wanted to thank you one last time before you go." The Cavallone boss stated gratefully. "There's a good chance that Rosetta wouldn't have fully come back if you hadn't won against Byakuran."
"I'm glad everything worked out for you too, Dino-san." The young Vongola boss in training said in reply before unconsciously looking around his senior for something.
Dino noticed this and told him in an apologetic tone, "…If you happen to be looking for Rosetta then she's already on her way back to Italy. I told her she should rest before going back to work but she insisted she go let her men know that she's okay." - he saw the slightly disappointed look on Tsuna's face and chuckled a little - "Don't worry, you'll meet her soon enough. After all, Rosetta's family is allied with the Vongola…"
And so Tsuna returned to his own time, wondering when exactly he would meet his senior's companion…
