Aki nearly bumped into a pair of flower bouquets with a shock of red hair between them in the doorway. She blinked a little taken aback when an oddly familiar headband then green eyes appeared.
"Hey sis, this is the room right?" Crow chirped out helpfully from behind the flowers. "Jack told me some stuff and between him, Carly and I we thought to bring these for the girls." He carried on, oblivious to how Momoe's emotional state was.
"Ah yes, this is it," she admitted after a brief pause before stepping back.
The room felt off, egg shelled and fragile, so much so that he tried to keep as quiet as possible as he walked. A rolling table was at the foot of Momoe's bed and it was there that he placed the pair of vases. They were white vases, half moon shaped filled with a variety of flowers that the trio had decided on. They tumbled over the edges of their bowls, bright colors and sweet fragrances that had became more apparent in the time that they had lost the chill of the florist shop.
Junko was awake and her expression was of forced optimism with the way she tried to look at the flowers. So in answer he picked up one and brought it to her, letting her sniff the fragrance while trying to discreetly look at Momoe. Junko didn't look bad really, the cast on her leg was thinner than he recalled. Her arm as well, everything about her looked on the up and up really.
Momoe on the other hand, 'feels weird how its her spot that feels like concentrated negatively. Maybe its this Mark?' he pondered as he watched Junko touch the petals of this one white flower that he didn't know the name of.
"Momoe's going to be over the moon about these, they're beautiful," Junko gushed quietly over the flowers. "She had to have her bandages changed again so they had to give her drugs while they changed them."
'Well there's my out,' he thought in relief as he approached Momoe's bed. He didn't know the girl all that well but... seeing this... He turned to look at Aki who was staring at him in this mute bitterness. "Patty and her mom needed a hand getting Grandma here for a check up. I figured I'd deliver the flowers at the same time," he explained. "Saw Yusei downstairs, chatting with a kid in a wheelchair so if you're looking for him."
"Oh, what were they talking about?" Junko asked, feeling like a dried out desert yearning for some casual conversation that wasn't all doom and gloom.
"From the sounds of it? The kid wants to build himself a D-Wheelchair. Which ok but, wow kids these days right?" He answered with this wide amused grin on his face.
"Crow 'you' are a kid," Aki replied with a lightness she didn't know she could muster. A smile on her lips in amusement that she didn't realize she needed. Until now.
"Hey!" Crow fluffed up crossing his arms across his chest. The model of looking 'tough', "maybe to you. But I know a handful of kids to who I'm a 'respected' Big Brother!"
"What are they like?" Junko asked with a grin on her face in answer.
"I'll find Patty on my own, and let you know when they're ready to leave," Aki offered bowing out and letting Crow chat up Junko.
Feathers...
She felt like feathers had been brushed over her by Crows' arrival. The weight of what the group had been put through brushed away with that soft touch. Across from the room was the guys and while she probably should have gone to check on Kazu. She needed a breather...
'No, I need...' She began when a black shadow began to ripple through out the hospital, Black Rose appeared to be on the move again. "Rose?"
"God is here?"
Aki was taken completely aback as she heard Roses' voice. What she had come to expect in erratic inflection, hissing, or instability was missing. Rose sounded so much like Aki that she could have sworn she was listening to a recording. There was an accent she couldn't place, but that was probably a call back to the race that Aki was in her past life. "Rose? He was here, he left..."
"He feels safe..."
Unsure of what to say to that Aki just gave a brief nod.
From there the hours marched along, measured beats of nurse check ins, rotations of staff. Crow meeting up with Yusei briefly as he helped Patty and her family. Finally Yusei left first, waiting in the parking lot, so Aki could close out the round of visits. A list of spirits names selected by Cyber Phoenix to be discussed with Momoe when she was clear headed.
The sun had slipped down, bringing evening and the pale moon who rose up into the sky.
It was late when Honest finally arrived.
Late night hospitals were quiet things really, by that hour everyone was on rotation, routines done a dozen times before. Short of an violent accident, disaster or crime there would be little reason for the staff to go up in arms. Ryo was watching the television, Kazu was pretending, his face and eyes aimed in that direction. But everything was washing over him in a glazed stare.
Thus the best time for a coward to slip in under the cover of darkness. Less to explain, no one to hypnotize, just the three of them...
If he weren't so tall he would have curled up in the chair, but it wasn't designed for wings as big as his...
"An angel?" Kazu asked in alarm as his rattled nerves yanked his eyes off the television in their room. White robed, long wavy blond hair and golden wings, it was one of those Christian angels... So had he died? Was the nightmares over?
"More like 'Honest'," Ryo answered, causing Kazu to start and give the being a double take.
"Honest? Yusuke's spirit?"
Honest flinched before nodding quietly, his head bowed. "I'm not an angel, I'm a fairy and not a particularly powerful one at that."
The words hung in the air for a time, no one speaking save the actors on the television show. Words spilled out on some late night drama, manufactured for the consumption for others and while Honest craved something to distract. Something to pull Ryo's stern, unforgiving gaze off him, he needed something to tell him Kazu was going to be ok.
Guilt ate away at him, crawled up against his skin while his wings rested against him. 'Have to make sure to hide them if I see Momoe, I don't know how she feels about feathers anymore...'
"How. How have you been here all this time, hypnotizing us doing all this..." Ryo began without any further preamble. "You've done so much harm..."
"Not all of it," Honest began barely able to keep his voice even. "Isao wasn't part of what I was doing. I was stupid. I was stupid, and ignorant of humans, since the only one I knew was Yusuke. I viewed the world and its people the way I view mine, I didn't realize how different." He looked down at his hands and sighed. "I knew houses of healing like this existed, I thought that you could be healed the way we can. Back then... When his parents died, I tried to help him. I tried, I swear! But he wasn't active the way Aki is, not even the way Judai is at present. His power was so young he couldn't do anything with it. No matter how hard I shouted he couldn't hear me..."
"Whoever it was, whatever it was who fed him this, I couldn't see them and they... They knew when I was close enough to see because they wouldn't try anything then. Only when I could hear and not see, only when I was away. I became desperate, the things I heard... the words being said to Yusuke... I searched the whole of my world and found the last Black Sage that existed during the time without Ancient Fairy Dragon. He made me..." Honest reached under his robes and produced a small red stoned amulet. He held it in his hands and looked down at it thoughtfully. The sigils were different bearing a Fairy star on it instead of a pentacle. "A modified Sages Stone, normally a Dark Magician Girl can use it to summon her master. This one, lets me summon myself into the world..."
"So you decided to hypnotize us? Lie to us?" Ryo asked, unsympathetic, his gaze piercing through Honest and trying to hold him to his spot.
"You think I could just walk up to you like this?" Honest asked standing up, stretching out his wings enough to show them even in the gloom of the room. "I wasn't visible when Aki attended school, but I saw how you reacted to spirits, to people like us. I didn't understand at the time that she had no control over her powers, but I understood you feared our presence. And it was a wrong assumption at the time, but I didn't get the luxury of a long time to study and observe you before..." he sank back into his seat.
"Fubuki tried to help me, and Jounouchi did too, but well you saw what happened. I wanted to get in contact, get you to help me rescue Fubuki, only by then Isao had usurped me. And you know the rest, once he was gone I returned and reasserted my powers over everyone. Tried to resume my efforts to rescue Yusuke."
"You didn't want us there..." Kazu suddenly interrupted, his voice soft, introspective and it muffled Ryo instantly. "Why? Did you know that this was going to happen?"
"I knew Yusuke was in Yami, I sensed him there but I didn't know anything about Yubel. I was afraid that if you ran into him, saw us together... If you saw what he had become that you would hate him and push him away. It was that fear that drove him into this Darkness, the fear of losing those he cared about. I needed you to remember him, remember his kind soul so that you would welcome him back once I could get him out of there..."
The spine snapped, Queens' shriek cut off abruptly.
"There are a good number of my fellow spirits who have come to the Ancient Fairy's call for aid. They are curious about Momoe and even Junko and want to offer their healing power. But Cyber spirits are cold and analytical at times. Healing spirits tend to not be that and I am going to go and talk to them about the girls. Let them know how wonderful Momoe is and how this isn't..."
"Have you 'seen' them?" Ryo demanded, forcing his voice down.
It was only a look from Honest and he grew quiet, the agony that Honests' expression held struck a cord. The eyes shown with tears reflecting the little light in the room, "I died with the other spirits after all... You were already unconscious by the time they were done. Given Judai's natural gifts he was the last line of defense as everyone fell. I know how we all felt about him, but he did his best to power up his spirits to keep all of you alive. Even if all he had to offer was faith and determination he wanted everyone to survive that."
"Its funny to be sure." Ryo agreed, 'and Sho has been despondent ever since the attack since Judai's personality has changed so much...'
"That must be weird...dying and then coming back... or maybe its like us?" Kazu noted as he fidgeted in bed to get weight off a particularly stiff muscle in his back.
"Yes, its a lot like going to sleep, I remember the moment of my death, only to seemingly wake up again later and was alive again. With God looking at us... Ok in our reality God has always been thought of as a kind, gentle being... This version..." Honest shivered causing his feathered wings to become ruffled.
Momoe was shrieking in pain.
"GET OUT OF KAZU YOU MONSTER!"
Honest felt hot tears run down his face and into the shallow crevices between his fingers, hot wet tears that ran down the backs of his hands... "I should go... I've been hiding and I need to help with the spirits. I haven't figured out how to deal with school yet, but I can talk to my people at least..."
"Fine, its late. But I want to talk to you in detail later," Ryo leaned back and turned his attention back to the television. 'I need details, but not with Kazu here...' he decided as the late night show went into commercial. 'Probably just Fubuki, because he knows more about Honest than I do.'
"Are you ok Honest?" Kazu asked as Honest had begun to fade out of sight. "I mean you look like hell, but we all do..."
Honest blinked through his tears as he forced himself to nod, "I'll be fine once all of you are free of this hospital and healthy again."

It was quiet in the apartment, Jack had fallen asleep on the couch watching Carly work on this new project. While Carly, struck by the worst case of motivation, was here. At her painting station with a figurine of her fairies. A new figurine had come out, the set of all the Fortune Fairies that just had parts everywhere. With her laptop open she had pictures of her Fortune Fairy cards blown up and was busy crafting.
The pose was typical of magical girl team poses, they were all facing outward, with their wands pointing outward. While the other hand was raised up in a victory cheer while the whole figurine was fixed on a stand that had a rotating element to it. Meant to be rotated around so a person could.. could just look at any particular one...
…
It was a fortune telling spinning set.
Fine.
A person spun it around, the fairies sent spinning over a small triangle pointing up and got the reading for the day. Not that Carly was going to give up her cherished sentient deck. But how could she say 'no' to this, admitted moderate sized, depiction of her fairies doing their best Magical Girl Team poses? The piece was delicate with all the small pieces and limited space to paint.
"I kind of wish we could watch the tv," En mused as she sat there watching Carly work. "I mean she really seemed interested in that recipe that they are showing tonight..."
"Yeah, she forgot, but hey we get a new figurine!" Hikari noted brightly as she sat in the air, her feet lightly kicking.
Swee shrugged resting her head in her hands as she watched. "It will come back, and Aki's asleep right now so we can't go and ask her to help."
"True... sleep sounds pretty awesome right now though," Anns' reply came on the heels of a jaw popping yawn. She lazily looked around the apartment, at where Jack was sleeping, stretched completely out on Carly's couch, over to her right where Hu was just as asleep.
"You think those friends of Aki's will get the help they need? I haven't seen the wounds, but Aki makes it sound horrifying," Swee asked thoughtfully, resting her wand on her lap.
Hikari's answer was a shiver that ran from the tip of her head down to her toes. "I hope so, getting Ancient Fairy in on this must mean its bad. Let's talk about something uplifting instead just the things I've heard..."
"Well, Patty's grandmother liked the music box," Chee offered. "I was checking on them earlier, that Crow guy helped them to the hospital for a 'check up'. But her grandmother has been listening to the box, and Carly's figurines are still dancing in the box like she crafted them to!"
"That's good..." Ann gave another yawn before sighing. "You know what? Hu has the right of this, I'm gonna take a nap! Wake me if something happens!" She sluggishly floated herself up before drifting over and settling near her fellow sleeping fairy.
"Night Ann!" the others called out, waving hands or wands as they continued their chatting circle vigil. "You know, humans seem interested in space, but if it does 'that' to us spirits... I don't know if I want humans to go there..."
"Yeah, what if space does the same thing to people? I don't want Carly or a nice person like Patty and her friends to become like this Yubel person," Swee confessed.
"But... we 'are' in space. This and our world literally hangs 'in' space so we're kinda there. It had to be something else, something in space that got Yubel... But I can't imagine Carly throwing us on a ship and sending us to space." Hikari pointed out as she twirled a bit of her hair in thought.
"Yeah, and its stupid really, why didn't this Judai kid talk to Yubel? Carly talked to us before she knew we existed. Why didn't he?" En asked, folding her arms across her chest in a disappointed huff. "Is it supposed to be a human boy thing?"
