Chapter 5
"I used to be scared of uncertainty, now I get high on it" -Jensen Ackles
Dean was shocked, his brother just stated that he had a message from mom, who had been dead for 22 years.
"What is the message, son?" John asked.
"I am unsure what she means by this but, 'You have done a good job hunting, but forget Yellow-Eyes for now, figure out how to be a family, and then hunt him like a family.' What does she mean by that?" Jamie asked his father.
"Your brothers and I are hunters of the supernatural. We save people, hunt things, what I call, the 'Family Business'," John stated.
"So, mom wants us to stop hunting for a bit, and heal our family, then go on to hunt the thing that killed her, as a family?" Dean asked their dad.
"That is what it sounds like," John replied, sitting back in his chair.
"I mean, it makes sense to me, Dean and I just got back into hunting together, figuring out how to be brothers again, and I haven't seen Dad in four years, and I just met Jamie, so we need to figure out how we mash together, and how to work with each other now," Sam analyzed.
"Wait, you guys believe me?" Jamie asked, looking so shocked.
"We do not have a reason not to believe you, do we?" John asked, with a smirk on his face.
"Of course not," Jamie protested.
"Good. Now, let's go over some rules, alright?" John asked his youngest son. Jamie just nodded.
"Once we start hunting again, don't break salt lines. Listen to me and to your brothers, we have been hunting for years, so if we order you to do something, it is probably for your safety. Always keep a weapon on you, Dean and Sam both keep knives under their pillows. We are going to get you into a magic school here in America, but if you see someone making a deal with a demon, you call one of us. If you find a hunt that you want to go on, take your brothers or I. We are going to get you a phone, if an unknown number of calls, wait for the third ring, if it is us, we will hang up, and call again. Once we start hunting again, there will be passcodes, each week it will change. There also may be times when we ask you to stay at Bobby's, this is not because we think that you are not capable, it is because we will be facing something unknown or highly dangerous and we care about your safety. All of these rules are not to punish you, they are to protect you," John stated.
"Also, don't be afraid to ask if you can't do something, or are confused, I still am learning stuff about hunting," Dean stated.
"You can come to any of us," Sam grinned. Both Dean and Sam wrapped their arms around their little brother, and John smiled, seeing his boys finally reunited was an amazing picture. Dean, six feet tall, Sam's hulking six-foot five inches frame compared to James' four foot eleven-inch frame. He was totally dwarfed by his big brothers.
"So, Sam, how does it feel to be the middle sibling?" Dean lightly teased his brother.
"So far it has been pretty alright," Sam grinned, and lightly ruffled Jamie's hair. Jamie knocked Sam's hand away and smiled at his brother. Dean had his arm around Jamie's shoulders.
"Are you guys sure that you want me? I mean I am kind of a freak?" Jamie asked.
"You may have magic, kiddo, but you are not a freak. Of course, we want you," Dean stated. "Jamie, will you be willing to let us look and see if you have any more injuries, so that we can treat you, treating now is better than infection setting in." Jamie just nodded, and carefully peeled off his shirt, and silently, Dean started patching up his back, and John started patching up Jamie's front. Sam just held Jamie's hand and tried his best to comfort his younger brother.
"This is going to sting," John stated, and Jamie just nodded. John gently dabbed at the lacerations on Jamie's chest with a rag that had some alcohol on it. Dean gently cleaned the cuts that were on Jamie's back, luckily, they would not need stitches, but one on Jamie's front that did need stitches.
"Jamie, you will need stitches on this cut, the one running from your left pectoral to your navel," John stated. "Dean, will you stitch your brother, while I go grab some pain meds, and some antibiotics to prevent infections. Also, we are going to have to bandage your ribs, you have some bruises." Dean nodded and moved to face Jamie, and made eye contact with Sam, and Sam just nodded, and motioned for Jamie to lay down, with his head in Sam's lap. Sam made sure to distract Jamie.
"This is going to hurt, ok kiddo?" Dean asked, and Jamie nodded. Dean carefully started to stitch his brother up. Slowly, Dean pushed and pulled the needle and nylon thread through his brother's skin, knotting it as he went. Jamie barely flinched as the needle repeatedly went in and out of the skin.
John came back into the room, and smiled at the sight of his oldest taking care of his youngest, just like Dean had always taken care of Sam. He waited until Dean was done stitching up Jamie, to walk up and help his youngest sit up, and John gave Jamie some Ibuprofen, and handed some antibiotic ointment to Dean for Jamie's cuts.
"If only I had some of the healing potions that I had at school, a single cut with a potion would be healed in less than a minute," Jamie commented.
"That sounds useful, but you have to get used to doing things our way for a little bit, at least until we get you signed up for a school here in America. We do not want the government to take you out of school for doing magic," John stated, and Jamie just nodded, smiling as he slipped back on his shirt, which was about five sizes too big. Dean stared at his brother's shirt, as if seeing it for the first time. Quickly, Dean got up, and got one of his shirts from in his duffle and gave it to Jamie. While Dean's shirt was still very large on Jamie, it was nicer, and softer so it would not irritate Jamie's skin. His brother shyly slipped out of his old shirt, and into the shirt that Dean had given him. Once it was on his body, he smiled and for once, felt like he was at home. He felt like he was safe and loved.
