A/N: I got confused and thought 'Jesse' was the Japanese name for the character only to find out later it WAS Johan, so that's all I really edited...

Rustic in construction, the village didn't really have a 'name' to it. A sort of by product of Duel Spirit curiosity meets longing for the familiar. The 'houses' were built with wood or stone, but they reveled in not being on Earth any longer. There was no cultural identity to the houses, so a hut of grass could rest just as comfortably next to a stone house. Unlike people, there was no need for stories about piggies and blowing houses down either.
Yubel was far worse than any wolf though.
The whole village was on fire with billowing clouds of smoke rising up into the air visible as it hit the crystalline roof of a strange prison. Weapons both ancient and science fiction inspired went off as the healing spirits returned to their world and the war zone. Diving into the fray they sought to extract as many of the wounded as they could.
Yet instead they slammed smack into that same crystal wall, left outside they could only watch the flames licking the air. Tainted orange flame casting shadows along the ground with the crystal blocking out the sunlight. Clear World was in effect locking the village in its field.
Yusuke was sitting in the village square, encased in what appeared to be darken crystal yet alive. In doing so he held the spirits prisoner, but he wasn't a fool. He knew there were several cards and the Ancient Fairy herself who were fully capable of undermining his efforts.
While outside the village Rainbow Dragon raced to the scene, soaring through the air with all the grace of a winged serpent. The light of the sun warmed their scales, giving it a gleaming appearance that refracted light. Thus the rainbow effect that gave the dragon its name, while tucked on its back was the only human it had bonded with and the spirit partner of said partner.
Johan and Ruby.
"Am I seeing this right? Think we can break into it?" Johan asked as he clung to the back of the dragon. "I've never tried it and I'd hate to have it some how fall in on itself and hurt the people held captive inside."
"It shouldn't... but we won't know until we get there I think," Ruby answered.
"Normally no, it would be safe, however given the influence of Yubel..." The dragon rumbled below them as it beat the air with its wings.
"Can't you do something about this corruption Rainbow?" Johan asked his hands resting against the warmed metal armor that covered the dragon.
"Perhaps as our bond grows stronger, this corruption is deep Johan. And you have only recently become strong enough to even travel here on your own. I would not expect you to be able to do both."
"Yeah your parents would flip their lids if you disappeared for a week or so cuz you wore yourself out fighting Yubel here!" Ruby pointed out their dark furred body pressed snug and safe against Johan's torso. "Though they'll do more than flip if you don't come back at all, so I would suggest you be careful!"
"Yeah yeah," Johan noted with a half grin as he reached down to rub Ruby on the head. But that grin faded as he saw how big the 'field' was, and could see just what was inside. "Who made that spirit so mad?"
The village was in ruins from his elevated position. The dead laid all over, some even in pieces, others just crumpled messes. Flames ate at the buildings, sucking up whatever air it could grab, but eventually it would choke itself out. Burn marks scorched the ground in various irregular patterns and on the outside of the wall were a small army of healing spirits. Beating against the shield, compelled by their very nature to try and rescue the wounded.
Johan's stomach twisted at the sight of such suffering, and he wracked his brain trying to think of just what would be a useful spell card that he could use. Something to take down the shields and get those who still lived help. While a shock of various colored hair, appeared and disappeared amid the smoke. An aura of corruption that he could almost feel from here, and how it felt so very wrong.
"Think we should engage Yubel?" Johan asked, though his voice didn't hold much confidence. Rainbow Dragon didn't have any method to destroy the field effect.
"If Ancient Fairy can make it here, she can take it down," Ruby pointed out their tail twitching.
"But I can't just wait here and hope the Dragon comes here," Johan pointed out as he tried to look through the crystalline wall between them and the village. Uselessly looking for some sign of a crack or something to get in.
Unaware of how, far above the trio, was Stardust Dragon. Hovering in the air, with his wings spread fully. The dragon was musing over much the same things as those below him. 'I don't have a way to remove a field card like that one. But Fairy certainly can, only can I leave that lone teen here? He's with a Rainbow dragon so maybe he'll be ok?' Stardust pondered, and so long as the shield was up the spectators could be nothing 'but' spectators. So he beat his wings in the elevated air and took towards the Grove.
The human and Rainbow dragon none the wiser to his presence or departure.
While Yusei and Judai were left next to the portal to the Duel Spirit World internally cursing their own inability to get in. Yusei pondered just opening a comms to Aki and see if she could be figure out something on her end. As strong as she was, he was confident she could open a portal from where she was. Even if she had to send Black Rose Witch as her proxy.
'Well its not like she couldn't tell me, but didn't, so asking for help doesn't seem likely...' Yusei thought to himself. Granted Ruka might have been able to help, but he didn't want her in a pitch battle that could result in similar injuries the older girls had.
He lifted up his duel disk and sighed even as he pressed the button to contact Aki. Upon the sound her her overly cheery voice. Because she knew what she had done, so saying 'smug' would have been just as good a term. "Thank you Aki..."
"No problem!" She answered sweetly.
'If we dated you wouldn't be as easy as my rides to deal with, would you?' he pondered to himself. It was so quiet on her end, that he couldn't tell if it was because she was alone or if she was with Momoe. and the girl just wasn't in the mood to talk. "I'm not alone so open this portal."
Moments later Witch of the Black Rose began fading into the area, though she refrained from going visible at first. Instead merely looking around she finally spoke up, seeing that there was no one else around Yusei save that Judai person. "I'm here, but I won't make myself visible, too many people could see me."
"How is Momoe?" Judai asked, cutting off Yusei with his question.
Yusei waited for the report though Judai's gaze seemed to indicate he could see Witch.
"Well Aki can activate Spirit of the Breezes' power and so far the Spirit can do a fair bit of repair even in their current state. While Cyber Angel Natasha's healing is strong enough she repaired Junko's leg completely." Witch's voice was tensely polite. "It lasts for a little bit, but then Junko started feeling the burning again. Gods' able to hold back the pain with His Divine blessing, but us... we're nothing compared to Him. The pain seems to leave for a few minutes, but she says it feels like pin pricks start up again after a while."
Yusei's expression grew darker as he heard the report, "Momoe?"
Witch began twisting her hands around her wand, as her lips twisted into a sad half smile. "Spirit isn't strong enough to do like Natasha does, but the guys are becoming worried how Momoe's mind set could affect Spirit. She started crying for Aki to heal her completely and she can't. Spirit just isn't that strong yet, and Fubuki is getting worried that Spirit might..." Witch twisted her lips as she tried to think of a more delicate method of explaining it. "Fubuki is afraid that Spirit will take it personally that it can't help Momoe better. That it might start connecting Momoe with its original partner and that could be bad for both of them..." She tried.
"That is understandable." Yusei acknowledged with a nod, "we need our Yugi. Bring him back and he can get Momoe the help she needs. "But for now, get Aki to open this portal."
"Why? You can't summon even there, sure you know about us, but you won't see us. Spirits like Yubel are strong enough that you would easily. But your spirits wouldn't be able to do more than be your shield."
"Witch." He frowned but she wasn't budging.
"Did you forget how Aki behaved because she thought Divine died?" Witch asked, with a serious frown on her face. The question brought Yusei back to that large hospital room. How she reacted when she saw her parents. From there it brought back how she reacted when Divine put that head gear over her head.
"We could relive that..." A voice suggested from behind them. The voice was male and older than the trio of people and caused the guys to turn around. Witch leaned over, peeking a bit behind Yusei's crabby hair prongs, only to dislike what she saw.
It appeared human, the whole limbs, torso, human head, with hair that was brushed back but so spiked. Yet there was something seriously off about what she saw. As many humans as she had gotten the chance to see at school or out and about with Aki.
"Its a spirit..." She finally stated, studying the man before them. "He appears human, but there's something that just makes me feel like this is a spirit. Not in the 'Honest is pretending' way either..."
"Since you're interested in meeting Yubel, I'll bring your corpses to them..." He offered with a sharp smirk on his face...
Then he wasn't a 'he' anymore. The frame of his body wavered, warping and contorting with the smoky gray of his clothes reshaping as well. But then as the trio watched, it began to shift to a deep red.
"Oh no you will not!" Witch protested in offended fury as she started to recognize the lines these stranger had started to develop. "Stay in your own form!"
"You can't tell us what to do!" A sniggering cruel voice parodied Witch from the stranger. As the 'man' now stood there appearing as Aki, a dark version of Witch started to materialize. While Witch already wore pretty dark clothes, the soft lines of her elegant gown were warped to sharp, thorn and bladed ribbons.
"Well you just made a mistake," Yusei answered, as he reached down and flipped his duel disk into active mode. 'A shape shifting spirit? And summoning a dark version of Witch... So its possible he can summon a dark version of Black Rose Dragon...'
"Ooh yeah, that's right you like to get beat up by cute girls." the Dark Witch crooned mockingly as the stranger drew their opening hand.
Judai frowned from what was quickly becoming the side lines, he didn't have a direct line to anyone. Opening the portal wasn't going to happen for him and even Witch being here, he couldn't power her either. "Why would you help Yubel?" He asked.
But Trueman wasn't going to answer 'that' question. No Judai was still comically weak and Yusei's position among the Dragons made him the bigger threat. He could wait to deal with Yubel's stupid partner, but the Dragon's head needed to be removed. 'And if I can draw more negative press on her in this form all the better...'

Back in the Duel Spirit World, Ancient Fairy was flying as swiftly as her butterfly wings could carry her. She slipped along the air currents of the sky, Stardust soaring ahead of her and trying to carry her further by giving her a slip stream to move into. "Clear World can certainly be removed, but I have heard that there is a person here in the Duel Spirit world. While I deal with the force field, get him through the portal back into the human world. His gifts would make him a valuable aide for our partners!" She called out to Stardust.
"Yeah, well if he can understand that Rainbow Dragon he was riding on the back of. Well that shouldn't be impossible..."
"If the dragon is not his partner, that would be fascinating. I've not heard of people developing the ability to understand dragons without being well, like us. That humans have evolved so far from our time..."
"In 'our' time? Fairy, you need to spend more time in the human world. You might be surprised at how 'evolved' humanity has gotten so far." Stardust pointed out as he turned to look at her.
Which she wasn't amused, "Stardust, I was a prisoner since our last battle, yes I'm becoming well acquainted with all the things humanity has made since our time. But it does 'take time' to get used to it."
Stardust bobbed his head in answer, she was right after all. He had pushed that part of their past rather far in the back of his mind. The ground below them was chewed up and spat out with the speed they were moving. So much so that soon they could see a dark crystalline 'rock' jutting up into the sky. It was soaking up the afternoon light making an easily target-able blot in the distance.
"Its almost a comfort to see that," Fairy mused aloud as she glided along, the wind whistling past her ear fins.
"You sense something, Fairy?" Stardust asked, genuinely curious, as the lack of scent bothered him. There should have been the scent of flames or smoke, something to indicate there was a crack in the crystal or someone managed to do 'something'...
"Well, its just a field card, I don't sense it corrupting the lands its on or around, so whatever they're doing. That effect is acting natural, regardless of whatever corruption has taken over the pair causing all these tragedies," She explained.
"Good to know they can't corrupt cards..." Stardust noted when he felt the slight tug of a duel... "But I can sense Yusei is in a serious duel, he may summon me away from here," he warned glancing over his shoulder.
"If you must go, then go. I can fly on my own your help has already brought us further than I would have been able to on my own." the Fairy answered, the tip of her tail twitching lightly. "Hmmm is that?" She squinted against the blue sky and could see a bird winged serpent? "Is that Rainbow Dragon?"
"Not bad for an old dragon!" Stardust teasingly cheered, then pumped his wings harder to stay a little further away from her.
"I think I'll stop mourning the tragedies that changed Yusei so far from your personality," Fairy retorted, her beautiful eyes half lidded in annoyance. "He's such a nice polite boy."
But there wasn't much else she 'could' say, at least Archfiend wasn't here. Both the dragon and his human reincarnation were still too much alike. Head strong, far too cocky about his strength and abilities, and way, WAY too determined to do things on his own.
Only in the same way that thinking dark thoughts could make them manifest...
She could sense the dragon off to the side, given the direction he appeared to be facing she could only suspect that he was coming to help. 'But if Stardust has to...' she wasn't even fully able to make that thought before the dragon in question disappeared. The slip stream he provided was ripped away from her and she quickly resumed pumping her own wings to try and maintain her forward momentum.
Only to shamefully start falling behind the ground below less an emerald blur...
'If only little Rua could once more awaken Life Stream. His wasp wings were so much better for speed than my own...' She ruminated.

'Oh this is bad...' Stardust thought to himself the moment he arrived and got a good look around.
Yusei was dueling, but the thing he was dueling had the appearance of a serious goth, psycho version of Aki. Judai was dueling another man who felt like the first and they had a clueless audience.
