\\\\\\\ Remember that six month skip in the original 5Ds series that basically just adjusted Aki into this passive girlfriend and shifted everything cuz of card sales? Yeah no.\\\\\\\\
"Its been six months to the day. The sky is a perpetual darkness, the sun rises against a backdrop of blackness. Its rays strike out in all direction and has been visibly recorded by camera to be reflected in that blackness. Sakamoto, Reizo, a cosmologist that I spoke to described the event as such."
It is clear to the scientific community that there is, in fact, something between us and the universe. We have lost contact with the satellites that have been in space for decades recording the stars in that region of space. What new satellites we have been able to send into space have revealed very little as it is too far away even now to get a full read out. However; and we say this with the understanding that we 'do not know for sure what it is'. The read out would suggest that we are, in fact, looking at the pupil of an eye. So far we have had no cause for alarm any greater than the presence of such a being. There appears to be no eyelid closing or opening, and it has retained its position unmoving. Given its size, it would appear that it is, in fact, extended across the whole of our solar system.
Mr. Sakamoto continued to reinforce that the 'Universes' Eye' has not moved since its appearance above the planet. That the sun is still unobstructed and continues to provide us with the light we need for the growing of crops.
Which leaves us with Momentum, the system which provides us with our limitless energy, has begun to slow down by a single percent. However; it has been noted that during sporting, entertainment, or other events that stimulate positive emotion, the Momentum system picks up in speed. Noting that a percentile loss is regained at such times and governments, under the advisory of the scientific community, has urged that people not lose hope. As strange as a command as that may sound, it would appear that positive emotions could 'encourage' the system to continue spinning in the proper speed and not stop.
Though it may be hard to be 'positive' when what appears to be an eye of a God stares down upon half the globe leaving the other half exposed to the universe. It is of this humble reporters' opinion that we not lose hope.
Nagisa, Carly.
"I think its very professional, and its more insight than what is being reported down here," Misty pulled her sunglasses down to cover her eyes as she spoke. The bright blue sky above Rio de Janeiro held a few clouds, but none that blocked the sunlight. High above a bird was drifting on air currents, while the lapping of the ocean waves on the beach was the backdrop of her conversation.
But Misty noticed and cared for nothing but the conversation she was having now.
"What is being reported?" Carly asked as she leaned against her chair, her free hand saving the article.
"Well some outlets are talking about the big black swath over the northern hemisphere, others are acting like it doesn't exist. Just propaganda, instead all the people that are coming down here are just immigrants..."
Carlys' glasses slipped down to the tip of her nose, causing her to push it back into place as she stood up and walked to the window of her apartment. Pushing the curtains and blinds aside she stared up at the pitch black sky. The sun was there, its golden rays illuminating the fact that the sky was completely black. No blue sky above, just white clouds, birds, and a wall of black, from horizon to horizon there wasn't a sliver of blue to be seen anywhere.
Just the sun.
"They don't see this?" Carly demanded as she let the blinds and curtain drop without a word.
But even with that she sighed and they both echoed the same response they always heard, "Computer generated."
Carly slumped her way back to her seat and dropped down into it with all the gusto and energy of a deflated balloon. Her gaze drifted across the walls of her apartment, she knew what was there so nothing really processed in her mind. It was just smears of color from paintings that Jack had made with spray paint, flat white walls with a shelf that carried a few of group pictures of her and the gang.
"How are you? Research might point out that sunlight is important, but so is seeing the sky." Misty asked as several very well toned and barely speedoed men walked by along the beach. The beach was fairly crowded, but not to the point where she couldn't hear or be overheard. Though there was the usual assortment of photographers that were following her around.
They weren't even really 'hiding' the fact that they were following her around, 'I almost miss my Earthbound God,' she mused to herself. One was openly shooting pictures with one hand and eating a hot dog with the other... Because of course. There were a few homophobic slurs due to her single status, the usual garbage that was flung out to get a reaction.
Anything for the money shot...
"Carly? Are you there?" Misty frowned, and sat up a little more in her beach chair. The woman was quiet, too quiet for Misty's taste. Carly had talked before about how there were gangs forming in the remains of Neo Domino. Really the city was structurally fine, there were just developing gangs and an overworked, understaffed Security.
She had reported in that she was safe, Jack and the others were looking after her and helping Security keep the city under control in their own ways.
But Misty didn't fully believe that, "Carly? Say something."
"Something."
Misty rolled her eyes and sighed, "Carly. What happened? Talk to me." She instructed as she settled back into her seat.
"Nothing happened, its just lonely... Go outside and the streets are mostly empty with only the occasional car or D-Wheel. Even if the suns' out I might as well be under an interrogation spotlight..." Carly replied, her tone dull and disheartened. "And my fairies are all gone, Aki can't seem to summon them from their cards. And I know they wouldn't abandon me, they just wouldn't! So I can only think that they're in these glowing cocoons that hover around me. They're like golden 'Notice me' lights that gets peoples attention and often its the 'wrong' attention. I got mugged twice in the past week and Jack loses his mind when I leave the apartment now out of worry."
"You got 'what'?!" Misty sat up straight as her grip on her phone doubled in strength. Photographers be damned, Misty was ready to crack the case in alarm as Carly gave the most half assed attempt at calming her down.
"Its fine Misty, Aki keeps several spirits out and about to look after me apparently. Black Garden scared them the first time and Aki got there soon after on her D-Wheel the second time so nothing happened." Carly confessed with a sigh. "Some bruises but nothing to go to the hospital for either so its fine."
"No! It is 'not' fine! You need to come down here and spend time with me," Misty retorted in mounting alarm. 'Her fairies aren't here, they're in cocoons so even if Aki was letting her powers just go... Its not like Carly has any spirits to back her up!'
Which was the thing that bothered Misty the most.
The fairies were in cocoons.
Carly didn't remember what happened after she died when she came back to life, so she had no idea about the Fortune Ladies. If the Fortune Ladies only appeared if Carly died, their presence as cocoons worried Misty. Especially since Carly wouldn't use a video phone, leaving Misty unable to do a facial divination.
"There are no Fortune Ladies Cards in any form of print, so the Earthbound probably transformed the cards from Fairies into Ladies on their own." Aki had explained to Misty when the Model had resigned herself to contacting the Rose Duelist.
"Can... is there a way for the cards to transform on their own without outside influence?" Misty asked as she sat curled up under a thin blanket with the tv muted in her suite.
"On their own? No, but there has been plenty amounts of influence going on around here. Carly shouldn't be able to see those cocoons because she can't see spirits. Whatever that thing above us 'is', is letting everyone here see Duel Spirits. Which is another issue all together." Aki explained.
"I'm so bored, Jack is out on patrol again and that leaves me here alone. Aki's in another part of the city, but she said she'd come here once her patrol was over..." Carly signed in irritation.

While at the twins condo...
"Aki, rev the engine..." Yusei instructed as he looked over at the laptop he was working on.
A low purr erupted on his right and a bar started spiking on the screen in front of him, earning a small frown on his face. "I know Jack doesn't want her to go too fast, but..."
Aki leaned over so she was resting on the D-Wheel in construction to study the screen. "I agree, he means well, but she can't go 'that' slow or what's even the point?"
She was sleek in her riding gear, a rose toned full body suit that hugged her curves, her hair had grown long enough to brush below her shoulders and her bangs trimmed up some to frame her face but not be a threat of snagging on the wheels.
"Something happened," Yusei answered, cryptic as that answer was. Jack had, forcefully, confided that Carly had attempted to take her life back when she had been made a member of the EarthBound Gods. But he had also mentioned an evolved form of the Fortune Fairies.
Something Yusei, with Ryu's help, was unable to find supporting evidence of. There just weren't any evolved form of the Fairies, though Jack argued they did exist. So the guys had settled on this. Now that Neo Domino was slowly sinking into gang territory, they began building one more D-Wheel. Akis' Bloody Kiss was parked next to Yusei's YuseiGo, a sleek affair of matching colored paint and more typical motorcycle design.
Not hiding it from Aki made it also possible to have a woman's point of view about building a D-Wheel. This would be for Carly, but she was obviously built differently than the guys, her physical strengths in different parts of her body. Aki's presence made the adjustments a blessing for Yusei. Her own Bloody Kiss had required several parts to be almost completely overhauled because they didn't understand the difference between weight, build of rider, how that would affect the ride. Yes Yusei needed to have more women in his life.
More over, Carly's visual impairment meant more time working on the computer system to compensate for possible visual problems while at high speeds.
Because Jack's solution had been to just make it so she couldn't ever drive faster than the average car...
Hence why he had been banished to work on the artwork for how the D-Wheel would be painted once it was done. For the amount of growling and growing curses coming from that room, it wasn't going all that well either.
Aki sat up, running her hands down the back of the engine towards her with a quiet thoughtful expression on her face. "I'm glad you guys are doing this for her, I'll take her out riding once its done and hopefully it will cheer her up. She hasn't left their apartment since the last mugging... She's stayed there the whole time locked up with only us visiting her... Its not good Yusei. I won't let her become a hermit!"
"We. 'We' won't let her become a hermit," Yusei corrected as he worked. "Not that stepping outside is exactly encouraging..."
Yusei was resolute against looking outside...
Outside the sky was this ominous wall of black, above Aki's head as she drove off to visit Carly... Somehow the sunlight was already reaching the blackness and being bounced back. Night time was no better as the sky was absent of stars so there was this large swath of empty space above them. One had to wonder what that darkness, if there was a mind behind it, thought as it looked down on the earth.
Streets were barren, though there were lights on in condos and apartments, they stuck out as the oddity. Lone headlights drifted along the roads at night, while the wind whistled through abandoned roads and picked up the random bit of trash. Tossing it down the street to produce some form of sound...
The rich had fled, moving to the other side of the globe where the sky was still blue and the night sky still bore stars. But it wasn't 'that' bad. Those who weren't rich, or those who refused to be cowed by the strange occurrence remained. Street gangs were starting to rule Neo Domino in a way that made the city feel far more homelike to the gang.
Aki sped by the lone mom and pop grocery store open, where the gang would go and help them receive shipments. From there everyone got their food supplies met for the most part, as well as the occasional new clothes or accessories. The hospital was still open and the school was closed but giving its classes online. Asuka and the gang were also staying in the city, having relocated themselves so they were sharing a whole floor of an apartment.
Since the spirits were visible, Aki didn't have to be 'that' close for Spirit or Natasha to appear and use their abilities. Which was great, because Judai and Jesse had both reappeared, utterly mindwiped and totally transformed. Normal crimes were just gangs, but if something exploded the group knew it was one or both of them with Yubel and Trueman by their sides... or perhaps it was better to say they were by the two Duel Spirits sides...
But with her departure it had left Yusei alone in the room with only a dark sky to look at outside the room. He glanced down at the small clock on the lower corner of his laptop screen and gauged the time when Crow would be back from his deliveries. Jack was supposed to be on patrol, but Witch of the Black Rose had opted to do that instead.
In exchange for the most startlingly impressive spray painted piece of Witch inspired artwork that Jack could produce. Yusei had stood there and 'watched' Jack produce this piece and despite his mind saying 'I know how to do it' just the creativity and talent left him in awe. A mystical piece with Witch in the center of a vortex of power seemingly in command.
'He shouldn't be alone should he?' Yusei pondered to himself as he worked. Jack's reveal of Carly's duel and willingness to die ate at Yusei. In his mind, the cocoons symbolized rebirth and it was possible that Carly's Fairies were going to organically turn into the Ladies. But how long were they going to stay in that state? They were drawing unwelcomed attention and Carly had gotten pretty banged up the last time. Her regular clothes may have hidden the bruises, but they knew it was there.
Yusei turned off the engine and paused the program before standing up, the twins would still be working on their homework in their room. The noise from the work had chased them into their room.
He could hear Jack grumbling outside, he wasn't far from the sliding doors. Fresh air being important if he was going to sketch, or so he claimed. But Jack had been struggling to figure out what a good paint job for this D-Wheel should be. 'He saw the ride she used before, so he's probably going to try and avoid using those colors. Wheel of Fortune is white, and Carly is far too colorful for that. Not to mention the whole 'it reeks of being the property of', as Aki had noted.' Using all the colors of the Fortune Fairies had sounded nice.
But Jack had said it would look like an explosion... So they had settled for an actual type of painting... if Jack could come up with the design...
