Chapter 3 : Sense Of Normality
"Did you hear about the new kid ?" or "I'm totally leaving him a letter " were the sentences that Shinji Ikari was mostly hearing about himself in the new environment. Shinji was in his new school for 3 days and already started missing Kaneda and the rest . For Shinji every student was the same 'Little shits raised under a bubble' . For him they seemed like kids who haven't seen the real world . The problems that they had he considered childish like ,Oh my god ! you only got 95 out 100 ?! How can you live with that ?!" . Another one of the lessons was coming to a close as Shinji was listening to the teacher and he was desperate for a cigarette . Misato started to restrict cigarettes so that he will be able to quit smoking one day . Shinji was sitting in his trademark jacket and his A-10 clips as he was desperately looking at 4chan on his laptop . He was smart enough to know that he couldn't do that with the school laptop so he brought his Laptop that was mostly upgraded with stolen parts . It could run most of the new games since after the Second Impact consoles became so expensive that in 2015 games were still published on PS2 and Sega Dreamcast . Even Sega Saturn still received new games.
'Come on'-Shinji thought as he looked at the clock waiting for the bell
"And so, this is how humanity was faced with its biggest obstacle"- The sensei said as in Shinji mind the only thing he heard was 'nananana Second Impact nananananananana Billions dead'
'Teaching on the same level as at home. wasn't this supposed to be maths ? Well the same strategy as always , no teaching in school and back to the books'-Shinji thought as the bell finally ranged
"Fucking finally"-Shinji said as he let out a breath
"All rise , bow !"- Said the Class representative Hikari Horaki as Shinji packed his things and left the classroom like always leaving the softer sex enchanted and introugued by him
"Are you leaving Ikari ?"- One of them said
"Wow he's such an enigma , he is hotter than every guy in school and turned down both Mizuki and Asami "- Said another one
"Wait , Mizuki and Asami ? The hottest girls in school ?! Every guy here would probably rip their heart out to go out with a girl from the final year ? Hell even Ayanami was looking at him today"-Said another one
"Ayanami ? Even her ? That scar has to have a build-in girl magnet"- Said another one as the Class Representative grunted in Annoyance
"What do they even see in him ? He is just a punk who doesn't follow the rules ?"- She asked herself as the girls kept talking about Shinji
"You know that he is from Neogoya right ?"-asked one
"He is a biker after all . He probably was a gang member. Just look at that jacket"-Said another one
"There is also another rumor that he is the pilot of that robot that killed the Kaiju a week ago"-Said another one
"Thats just plain stupid . Why would they choose a punk and a biker ?"- Asked one of them
"But the robot was purple and green , so is his bike and jacket"- Said another one
"That could just be a coincidence ?"- Said another one as on the back of the class a boy wearing glasses was looking at his laptop . On the laptop was a picture from Neogoya that showed a purple bike with green accents and a biker wearing a purple jacket and goggles . It was at this moment where the boy by the name of Kensuke Aida . A military geek and a Moto-Curious finally noticed the 4-edged star on the bike and the star on Ikari's back . It was this moment that Kensuke eyes widened and his face showed a weird smile
'HOLY SHIT THAT-THAT'S HIM !? THE FUCKING HIGHWAY STAR IS HERE IN OUR SCHOOL ?! I NEED TO TALK TO HIM !'-Kensuke thought as he runned out of the classroom to find Shinji.
Shinji meanwhile finally entered the corridor as he returned from the school rooftop from his cigarette break . As he made his way the red alert in his mind ignited as few girls saw him
"Hiii Ikari-kun . Can you come here ?"-One of the girls asked him as she walked to him
"Hey Shinji ! Can you eat launch with me ?"-Another one asked as Shinji's brain was looking for the way out as he saw the toilet door . 'YES !'-Shinji thought as he runned into the toilet and closed himself in the toilet cabin . A few minutes passed as someone finally entered the toilet .
"Are they gone yet ?"-Shinji asked the person that was behind the door . And the faith chosen Kensuke to be the person behind the door
"Yes ?"-Kensuke asked as Shinji finally left the cabin as Kensuke gasped and put his hand on his mouth . As Shinji was about to leave the toilet Kensuke got his all his strength to ask
"Are you t-the H-Highway Star ?"-Kensuke asked as Shinji turned himself around and looked at Kensuke . Shinji knew that he was famous but even around here ? The Bōsōzoku News made its work.
"You know ?"- Shinji asked as he looked at Kensuke 'Wow i was not expecting that'- he thought. Kensuke gasped again
"It is you ! I'm a big fan and i watched most of your races"- Kensuke said as he reached out his hand .
"Kensuke Aida"- He said as Shinji shaked his hand. It could finally be someone that he could talk to . 'ahh fuck it , you need to meet new people right ?'-Shinji thought as he smirked
"Shinji Ikari"- He said as he let go of his hand .
"So you're a military geek ? And your interested in racing ?"-Shinji asked as Kensuke looked at him like he saw an Idol
"Yep , I love both the military and motorcycles . Two best things in the world"- Kensuke said as Shinji put his hand on his shoulder and his facial expression changed .
"Please don't tell anyone about my second identity, ok ?"-Shinji asked as Kensuke stood at attention and saluted .
"Your secret is safe with me"-Kensuke said as Shinji sighed and Kensuke facial expression changed as it showed curiousesness
"But why are you here ? Aren't you living in Neogoya ? "-Kensuke asked as Shinji quickly thought through the whole situation 'I hope i can trust you Kensuke'-Shinji thought as he whispered to Kensuke's ear
"I am the pilot of that robot"-Shinji said as Kensuke's face showed the biggest shock on his face
"It's like two best things in my life colliding"-Kensuke said as the bell rang .
"Come on Kensuke"- Shinji said as He and Kensuke made their way to the classroom . Next and last lesson came and went as he mostly spended the last lesson talking on chat with Kensuke about the last races and new bikes coming out and a discussion about which engines were better, SOHC or DOHC ? After that they exchanged phone numbers and made their way out of the school building. And it was the moment when Shinji noticed his sister sitting on the bench .
"Rei"-Shinji said Kensuke looked at him
"You want to ask Ayanami out ? Good luck with that ."- Kensuke said as Shinji showed a disgusted expression
"That's my sister"-Shinji said as Kensuke again was shocked . This time so much that he collided against the fillar
"W-What ?! Your her older brother ?"-Kensuke asked as almost every pair of eyes looked at them
"Yep a half-brother to be accurate"-Shinji said as Kensuke adjusted his glasses
"Well see you tomorrow Shinji"-Kensuke said as he made his way. Shinji decided that it was finally the time to talk to Rei . Shinji sat on the bench next to Rei . 'Now or never'- he thought as he decided to start the conversation
"Rei"
"Hello brother"-Rei answered in her almost robotic voice
"Well Sis , we are finally able to talk "- Shinji said as he sat closer to Rei
"Yes"- She replied
"Why have we never met before ? "-Shinji asked her as Rei didn't even bother to look at him
"Your father didn't found this necessary"- Rei said as Shinji clutched his hand in a fist
"That son of bitch , first he took mom and then took you away from me . Your not even his child"-Shinji said as he Rei finally looked at him
"Why do you hate your father ?"-Rei asked
"Rei , you wouldn't get it . Rokubungi is dead to me . I don't even consider him my father . The whole scene I pulled out before Sachiel was just to embarrass him . I would never put you in danger if I knew about you. I did what I did just to save you . I have only you and few friends back home "- Shinji said as Rei blushed and looked at him
'brother would do that even if i am expandable'-Rei thought
"I can understand that we both have different opinions about Commander "- Rei said as she got off the bench
"Goodbye brother"-Rei said as she made her way in the afternoon sun leaving confused Shinji behind
'Well that's a beginning'-Shinji thought as he made his way to the parking lot . Next few days passed and his new friendship with Kensuke grew as he introduced him to race tracks and the most popular bikers in Tokyo 3 . Few days Shinji was sitting next to Kensuke as they talked about last race in Neogoya as Kensuke played with his VTOL model as Hikari Horaki walked up to them
"What is it class rep ?"- Kensuke asked as he putted down his camera
"Did you deliver all those study guides like I asked?"- Horaki asked as she looked at Kensuke
"Umm yep !"-Kensuke said as he put the study guides he forgot to deliver deeper in his desk , he was too busy being excited that he met one of his idols.
"Actually , no one is in Toji's place most of the time"- Kensuke said as Shinji was mostly sleeped off the military stuff Kensuke was saying . He was tired of it on the NERV shooting range where everyone was talking about that when the only thing he was trying to focus on was shooting . His NERV card acted not only as a driver's licence which resulted in him getting a NERV licence plate . But also as a firearms license and a license to kill . So he could carry his Beretta everywhere now .
"Ikari !"- Hikari screamed as Shinji woke up
"Sorry"-He said as he woke up
"Where have you been all night ?"- Kensuke asked him as Shinji jugged a can of Red Bull
"Shooting range"-Shinji said , just as Hikari wanted to ask another person to enter the classroom. The boy had a PE tracksuit on his pretty masculated body . And Shinji remembered who he was.
'It's the kid from Sachiel'- Shinji thought as his train was crashed by another sip of his Red Bull
"Toji , your back ."- Kensuke said as he looked at the boy
"Suzuhara"- Hikari said as she also looked at him
Toji just putted his bag on the nearest desk
"Well, damn . Our class a lot smaller"-Toji said as Kensuke putted his hand on Shinji's shoulder
"Well we got a replacement here . Toji meet Shinji Ikari , a follow motorcycle enthusiast !"- Kensuke said as Toji shaked Shinji's hand
"Toji Suzuhara"- He said in a no-bullshit voice . Even if Shinji could finish him in a fist fight in 10 seconds he still sended an aura that could freak someone out
"Shinji"- He answered as listened to the conversation
"So you moved here recently ?"-Toji asked him
"I came to my sister"-Shinji said as Kensuke knew that it was the codename to ,I pilot that robot".
"It's weird that you came here when giant robots and Kajius are running around . Most of the others just transferred out . But Toji, why haven't you been in school for the last few days ? You got caught up in that mess"- Kensuke asked him
"My sister was caught up in the attack when that monster threw the robot into the building . He helped me get her out and it's just a broken leg . Tomorrow she leaves the hospital . That pilot should be glad that it's only a leg because I would rip his legs out. And that Sakura always talks about him"-Toji said as Shinji decided that he had enough
"But you should be in a shelter right ?"-Shinji asked as the trio looked him
'Don't do it Shinji !'-Kensuke thought
"You got a problem ?"-Toji asked as he looked at Shinji
"No but if there is a code red you should be in a shelter . Not in the building when you see that there are titans fighting .You ignored the warnings and risked her life. If you would blame the pilot if something worse happened to her you would run away from your responsibility and that it was your own fault"-Shinji finished using his fathers genes to boost his speech as the trio looked at him . Toji looked like he wanted to strangle Shinji but after few second of thinking he knew that Shinji was right
"Well your maybe right Ikari" - Toji said as Shinji saw Rei enter the classroom
"Hey Rei !"-Shinji said as Rei walked past them and she turned her head to see Shinji
"Hello brother"- Rei said as she walked to her desk . To say that Toji was shocked would be an understatement
"THATS YOUR SISTER ?! REI FREAKIN AYANAMI IS YOUR SISTER ?!"-Toji screamed
"Suzuhara, stop screaming !"- Hikari said as she hit the back of his head with her notebook
As the class started Shinji was always talking to Kensuke as he got another message
ARE YOU THE PILOT OF THIS ROBOT ? Y/N
Shinji looked around to see the girls from the back of the classroom smiling and waving at him as his chat was bombarded with questions YES OR NO ? He quickly messaged Kensuke on what to do ?
SHINJI I : WHAT TO DO ?
KENSUKE A : DO IT ! LESS PEOPLE WILL KNOW THAT YOU ARE ONE OF THE BEST RIDERS OF THE UNDERGROUND . PERFECT COVER !
'In for a penny in for a pounding I guess. well fuck it'-Shinji thought as he typed YES. And the entire class jumped at him and people got around him
"Get back to your desks ! The class is not finished !"- Hikari screamed as she failed to get the class intact
"How did they choose you ?"- One of the girls asked
"Do you pass a test or something ?"- another girl asked
"Did they shorten your sentence in return ?"- another one asked a question that made Shinji cringed
"I wasn't in prison "-He answered
"What is its name ?"-Another person asked
"Eva 01 "-Shinji answered
"What about the cockpit ?"- Someone asked
"Classified"-Shinji answered
"Does it have weapons ?"- Someone asked
"A progressive knife , but we work on new melee weapons"- Shinji answered as robotic as he could
Just as the final bell rang Shinji got away from the group and runned straight to the changerooms to switch the school uniform for his biker suit. Just as Shinji ignited his bike he heard someone
"HEY!!!"-Toji screamed as he wanted to sound louder then the engine
"YES ?"-Shinji screamed as he turned off the ignition
"You own me something after-Wait a minute ! Is that the Highway Star that Kensuke talks about ? Don't tell me that you are also him ?"-Toji asked as Shinji just said "Yes"
"Well that's not important . You're going with me and Ken to the hospital right now . Sakura wants to see you . And can you give us a ride ?"- Toji asked as Kensuke's face showed excitement.
"Fine , get on"-Shinji said as Toji and Kensuke sat on his bike and Shinji ignited it
"Hold on tight !"-Shinji said as the duo on the back grabbed each other's backs as Shinji reversed geared out of the parking lot and speeded off . The ride was quick but for most of the time Toji was screaming to go slower and Kensuke screamed from excitement and recorded everything on his camera . As they finally got to Sakura's room they noticed that she wasn't alone . As Shinji saw the other girl that was sitting next to her his heart skipped a beat and he hid behind the door
'nonononononononononono that's impossible ! She ? here ? RIGHT IN THE SAME PLACE ?!'-Shinji thought as he knew who it was . The black hair and green eyes reminded her of his best friend and her brother . Someone that he had known since her birth . And someone that knew him to well
"Shinji ? Is that you ?"- the girl asked as Shinji finally took the courage to enter the room
"Hey Aimi . Long time no see"- Shinji said as he let out a sigh . The looked like she saw a ghost
"SHINJIIII!!!"-The girl screamed as she jumped into his arms as the rest looked at them puzzled
"Wait, you know Aimi-chan ? "- Toji asked as Aimi finally got out of Shinji's arms
"Yes , Shinji was like a second brother to me . After we left Neogoya we cut the contact ,but mom heard about your uncle Shinji , im sorry !"-Aimi said as she snuggled into his arm sobbing
"shhhhh its ok , i'm alive and big girls don't cry"- Shinji calmed her down as he cleaned her eyes with a tissue. As Shinji whispered to her ear
"They know about Takuro ?"-Shinji asked as Aimi nodded her head .
"Yes , after mom and I moved here I became friends with Sakura and her older brother along with Kensuke"-Aimi said as looked at him and noticed that he was wearing a biker suit .
"You're still racing ?"-Aimi asked him with a sad expression
"You know me . I only live fast " -Shinji said as he looked at Sakura
"You are the pilot ?" - Sakura asked as Shinji sat next to her
"Yes , and im sorry for sending you to hospital . They didn't told me that the Angels have a force field" -Shinji said as Sakura chuckled
"You saved us all ! Your a hero !" - Sakura said as Shinji chuckled and looked deeply in her eyes .
"I only did my job , i'm too pathetic to be called a hero . Im a punk who is the best at beating up clowns"- Shinji said as Sakura took his hand
"Well can you be a hero for me ?" - Sakura asked
"And for me ?"-Asked Aimi as she also took his hand
"I can try"-Shinji said as the nurse walked in and said that hours of visits are over . After they left Sakura's room Aimi asked Shinji about the things at Neogoya . How Kaneda and the rest are doing And is the workshop still running ? As they got out of the hospital Shinji gave Aimi his phone number and Saperated from Toji and Kensuke as they went to get Aimi back home . Since Misato was at NERV Shinji left his backpack and Made his way to the Spot next to the Highway entrance that Kensuke told him about. He saw a group of bikers and the crew of The Bōsōzoku News . Shinji listened to the bookmakers and organizers
"We need another one to race or its game over" -one of them said . Shinji putted his Hand in the air
"I'll race" - Shinji said as he gave the fee to the organizers . Just before everyone recognized him as the Highway Star . The whole public went crazy and bettings were opened again as Shinji got himself on the starting line . The race was anticlimactic for Shinji . Just 10 km of a Highway road. Shinji won and got the money from the organizers and left back to his apartment thinking
'so thats my new normality ? I like it'
A/N : So another chapter was wrapped up ! Sorry that the racing sequence was anticlimactic . Next chapters will feature longer racing . And Aimi is here because for Shinji its something that reminds him of his failures. Also i added a new character trait to Kensuke since if this world is ruled by Motorcyclists why he can't be moto curious . And Shinji will get to know Rei a lot better
