Chapter 16 : Israfel part 3 : Two different worlds
"A-Asuka ?"-Shinji asked as he looked upon his roommate wearing only a loose yellow t-shirt
"I'm asking you a question . Where do you think you're going Shinji ?"- Asuka asked as she bended herself to Shinji showing him a smug grin
"I'm g-going to . Ah fuck it i'll tell the truth . Im sneaking out for a race"-Shinji said as Asuka backed down. And it was at this moment that Asuka's mind came up with an idea . A cunning idea. Asuka turned around and decided to give this a shot
"Well i'm going to tell Misato , if you won't take me with you"-Asuka said as turned around back at Shinji again . And it was at this time that Shinji was confused . Why did she want to ride with him ? It brought him back to the day they finally docked in New Yokosuka . First thing Shinji did was taking a shower and taking off the female plug suit and changing back into his normal clothes after that he runned to the NERV truck that was supposed to transport his bike . And he speeded off from the port as the only thing he could hear from Asuka was when she asked Rei "Is he always such an asshole ?". Shinji thought quickly about it on both sides of his brain . The intelligent one and the one that was mostly responsible for dumb one liners that Shinji said when he made a shot to someones head
"Fine , but only if weigh less than 80 kilos"-Shinji said with a smug grin
"Does this imply that you think I'm fat ?!"-Asuka asked in silent yet accusing tone
"N-No , i j-just-"
"Just kidding ! I weight soft and feminine 40 kilos"-Asuka cutted him off as she proudly pointed her thumb at herself
"Fine , just get dressed and I'll wait for you"-Shinji said as Asuka went back to the shared bedroom. Shinji waited for 10 minutes as he wondered why women take so long to in Neogoya he only needed 2 minutes to dress as the only thing he wore were casual outfits of jeans, hoodies and sweatsuits. Not to mention that they were mostly too small . And since he was around delinquents he did receive laughs and getting called a "Faggot". And that mostly resulted in severe bruises and bullet holes. Asuka finally left the bedroom dressed in black sweatpants and a grey hoodie
"Well let's go"-Asuka said as they silently left the apartment and made their way to the parking duo got on the bike as Shinji gave Asuka his new helmet and he put on his goggles
"I thought you would want to test out the new helmet ?"-Asuka asked
"Well , I would but I'm riding with you and I don't want anything to happen to you,"-Shinji said as Asuka blushed under the helmet . Shinji ignited his bike and slow and steady made his way out of apartment complex before he put on his SDAT earbuds
"Really we are going 10 km per hour ? And by the way, when did you get your driver's license ?"-Asuka asked
"First of all, we were moving slowly to not wake up Misato . And for your second question , i never did"-Shinji said as the Track #4 of the Megamix #2 started playing which coincided with Asuka saying "What ?" and bursts of Green sparks emerging from the discs

With Asuka's constant screaming and her grabbing onto Shinji they finally reached their destination. Shinji was used to the view of several marvels of engineering but Asuka's eyes were lit up as she looked like a toddler in a toy shop .
"Well , we are here , wait for me and I'll sign myself in , here take this . It can come in handy"-Shinji said as handed over his pistol to Asuka , Shinji took some money from his pocket and made his way to the "Organisers" . As Asuka looked upon Shinji talking with people double his age . After 5 minutes Shinji finally returned to waiting Asuka
"I have 5 or so minutes to start , well what do you think about my underground world ?"-Shinji asked
"Its , its . I don't know what to say . It's the first time i see something like this"-Asuka replied as she looked upon Shinji's bike
"You built it ?"-Asuka asked
"Yep ! The Honda Cbr900rr SC28 V-TEC NOS equipped HS custom with Twin-Ceramic rotor drives on each wheel ."-Shinji said as he proudly displayed his work
"You're an engineer ?"-Asuka asked
"My uncle taught me the skill , that's before he died of course"-Shinji said as he lit up a cigarette
"Wait , if your uncle died . Who took care of you ?"-Asuka asked
"No one , i lived alone"-Shinji explained as Asuka looked upon him
"But someone had to take care of you right ? You needed to pay taxes and do all that stuff ?"-Asuka asked
"Well , I worked and raced . That was enough to have a apartment and food"-Shinji said as it struck him
"Oh crap ! I have to start !"-Shinji said as he lifted up the motorcycle seat to reveal a NOS bottle as he turned the valve around
"There you go"-Asuka said as she handed him his helmet
"Thank you Asuka"-Shinji said as he made his way to the starting line with his SDAT earbuds already in his ears as the Track #5 of the Megamix #2 started playing

As the start signal went off Shinji pressed pedal to the metal and speeded from the crowd as several layers of dust went on Asuka's face 'Just please come back in one piece'. Shinji meanwhile was speeding in front of the pack as he knew that the mountain pass was just the beginning . He simply waited for the occasion to pass . And so he did 4 times as he noticed that they were already coming to the main road as Shinji simply stared at the road in front of him . Even if it was exciting, the racers here were inexperienced . Most of them were either thrill-seeking adults or children from upstart families that simply watched a video on youtube and wanted to get a piece of action . Shinji keeped the rest behind him for the rest of the race as they returned to the mountain pass and passed the finish line. Shinji turned off his bike and made his way towards Asuka after taking off his helmet
"See why I sneak out almost every night ? This is the only time i feel alive"-Shinji said as Asuka was still wiping dust off herself
"You are gonna take me shopping for what you did to my clothes , but still . This is how you make your money ? It's like I'm always getting impressed by you"-Asuka said in a way that managed to make Shinji blush 'Victory ! I knew that you sometimes lose control ! But this has to be my favorite one out of the bunch !'-Asuka thought as she looked upon sweating and crimson red Shinji
"w-well , im g-going to get my money . Wait for me !"-Still blushing Shinji made his way to the organisers
"Well 1 000 000 milion yen you receive"-The organiser said as handed down Shinji a bag of papers
"Thank you , by the way . Have you ever seen this plate number ?"-Shinji said as he showed a piece of paper with number 21-370
"Nah , never seen it"-The man replied as Shinji made his way back towards Asuka and his bike
"And million yen flies straight to my pocket"-Shinji said as he put the bag inside his pocket
"And now i guess we are going home now"-Asuka said
"Well yes and OH FUCK !"-Shinji screamed as he noticed the red lights
"COPS ! EVERYONE BAIL OUT !"-Someone in the crowd screamed as people started to run
"COME ON !"-Shinji screamed as he and Asuka got on and made their way out of the pass as they rode down to the main street and entered the highway , after a few minutes Shinji slowed down as they reached the apartment . To not wake up, Misato Shinji silently parked the bike and put it on the canvas like it was never moved . And so he and Asuka were in the elevator
"So , did you like it ?"-Shinji asked
"We broke every rule of the traffic laws , took part in an illegal event and fled from the police . And somehow i feel more alive than a battle with an angel"-Asuka replied as the elevator finally reached their destination
"See ? There is more to it than just wasting fuel and tires"-Shinji said as they silently entered the apartment .
"Ok , now let's get dressed and go to sleep"-Asuka said as they changed back into their pyjamas . As Shinji wanted to get to his bed he was stopped by Asuka
"Shinji ? Thanks for showing me something like that"-Asuka said
"No problem , good night"
"Good night"
The morning clock came as Misato started to scream across the room
"It's time to wake up !"-Misato screamed as the duo got up
"Ahh , Misato ! You didn't have to scream !"-Shinji said as he put his face back under the sheets
"For once I agree with Shinji ! The morning clock is enough !"-Asuka said as she covered her ears
"No slacking off ! it's the last day and you need to push for your limits."-Misato said as Shinji and Asuka finally got out of their beds and dressed up into their outfits
"Ok , I'm leaving for NERV . And I expect 100 % from you . Rei ! As your commanding I'm expecting you to keep an eye on your co-pilots !"
"Understood"-Rei replied as she drank her cup of Miso , Misato left the apartment as Shinji and Asuka put on their headphones
"Ready ?"-Asuka asked
"Ready"- Shinji replied and gave Asuka a fist bump . They got on their maths and the music started

"We-we did it . Now I'm going to the toilet"-Shinji said as he made his way out of the living room . Rei meanwhile finished her Miso as she observed Asuka. She could notice that their relationship changed over the last 5 days . And the way she also looked at him changed . It wasn't a frown or an evil smirk . It was an actual smile . And it was obvious to Rei that her friend liked her brother . But there was also another thought . What would happen if she would break his heart ? As someone who showed her the world and got her out of her "Shell" . She wouldn't want to see him again being on the edge of breakdown . So Rei took her action after washing the dishes and approached Asuka
"Asuka"
"Yes Rei ?"-Asuka asked as she knew that Rei wasn't easy with approaching people . So it was probably something serious
"You like my brother don't you ?"-Rei asked the question that caught Asuka off-guard
"Wh-what ? Why a-are y-you talking a-about ? I like him as a friend ! But ? BUT !"-Asuka was cutted of by Rei
"Your body movement and face say otherwise . Asuka , we are friends. But if you will hurt my brother"-Rei said as she walked pass
"I'll kill you"-Rei finished as Asuka looked upon her going to her room . 'Wow , she is really protective of him , ok Rei . I'll let this slide'
"Ok i'm out ! Should we return to training ?"-Shinji asked
"Yep"-Asuka replied as they returned to their maths and put on their earphones. And so for the of the day with breaks they perfected the dance as the 100% mark became the only mark that appeared meaning that the plan worked .The two were fully synchronized as Shinji was coding a new HUD for his bike
"Misato is not coming tonight ?"-Asuka asked as she left the bathroom wearing only a towel
"She is pulling an all-nighter tonight"-Shinji said as he took a sip of his coke
"Great ! That means we are sleeping alone."-Asuka said as she took her futon and sheets from the mockup bedroom
"This door is the invincible wall of Jericho ! Cross it and you will be biting dust, Shinji !"- Asuka screamed as she closed the door, leaving confused Shinji . Shinji thought it was confusing . 'Could she have a moodswing ? Or worse , she could start her period. But what the hell is the wall of Jericho ? I'll google it' -Shinji's mind determined as he opened google and typed 'Wall of Jericho ?' . After 20 minutes of scrolling he opened another tab and typed 'If the girl tells you about the wall of Jericho does this mean she is coming on to you ?' . After 30 minutes of searching Shinji was laying on his bed 'Thats fucking obvious that she is hinting me . The wall fell so that could mean one thing about it . She is waiting for me . Ok Ikari get a grip . Your hidden collection of Romances back home taught you enough . It's do or die time ! I FEEL GOOD I FEEL GREAT ! I CAN DO THIS !' -Shinji finished his monologue as he found himself in front of Asuka's door . And so he did enter the room to notice Asuka laying on her bed
"What have I told you ?! The wall of Jericho ?"-Asuka got up from her bed and stood in front of Shinji
"Asuka , the wall fell . So you wanted to talk to me ?"-Shinji asked
"Well , ok . Sit here"-Asuka said as she pointed at her bed
"So what do you want to talk about ?"-Shinji asked as Asuka sat beside him
"Well , this could be the last time we will be sleeping in this apartment . And i wanted to spend this night with you"-Asuka said as she looked upon Shinji
"Ehh ?"
"NOT LIKE THAT YOU IDIOT ! I just want to talk with you !"-Asuka said as the blush disappeared from Shinji's face
"Well we haven't spent those 6 days for nothing right ? I promise you that we will kill that angel and we will have some time for ourselves again . You can go back to your life and i will come back to mine"-Shinji said as he looked upon Asuka
"Yeah , but i kinda liked those 6 days , even if we had to wear those damn outfits"-Asuka said as both she and Shinji chuckled
"Wait , so you like living with us ?"-Shinji asked
"Kinda , if I lived alone I would mostly rely on takeout. But you keep me well fed and I'm glad for that . By the way, where did you learn to cook like that ?"-Asuka asked
"Like I said yesterday , I grew up alone . My uncle worked with shady people and left a lot for months . So i had to learn basic skills like that"-Shinji explained as Asuka looked upon him
"What guardian leaves their disciples like that ?"-Asuka asked
"I can understand him , but in return he gave me skills that I still use today . Like engineering and riding a bike . Not to mention how to you use a gun"-Shinji said as he looked at the ceiling
"But why do you always carry a gun with you ? Even to school ? That feels just weird . It's not like you need it to make quick work of students that attack you . I heard a lot from people in school . So why ?"-Asuka asked the question that caught Shinji off guard . Of course he wouldn't tell her that he also killed people to earn money ? So Shinji quickly thought about some cover
"Let's say it like that . How was your neighborhood growing up ? Before you moved to EURONERV of course"-Shinji asked as it caught Asuka . Why was he asking a question like that ? It's like he doesn't want to talk about it ? But she also wouldn't tell him everything so she let it slide.
"I grew up in the Berlin suburbs . Nice house with a garden . Always green and clean . No signs of crime , nice neighbors. But my parents.. Let's just say that I don't have a good relationship with them , my step-mom is nice . My father on the other hand is a real son of a bitch . I haven't talked with him since I moved out . He always acted like "Asuka this Asuka that Asuka grow up !" , to be honest only my grandma was supportive person after..after"-Asuka was cutted off by Shinji
"If you don't want to talk about it then fine , my turn . I grew up in the 8th district of Neogoya , flats and only flats. Neons lit up 24/7 so if you slept in midnight neons made it look like it was the middle of the day. And since this city has the largest crime numbers on the continent . That means poverty, brutality and the most important thing that shaped my future . Motorcycle gangs . Bosozokus , Cafe Racers , UJM's , Fags or Harley Riders all fighting for teritory . Until we came . The echo of the new generations , Techno-Bosozoku . The mixup of several styles . But coming back to me , I went to preschool that was connected with the orphanage . And that was when I met my best friends . We quickly hit it off and became literal brothers in this fuck-up playground that was Neogoya, the city that looked like it was pulled off straight from blade runner or bubblegum crisis and someone added a session of Cyberpunk 2020. We still talk to this day and we are friends for life . And it was at this moment when we met our greatest enemies , The clowns as several of the members of that gang that were in middle school were our bullies and oppressors. So we decided to step up and founded our own motorcycle gang . The Capsules , I received my two-wheels from my uncle . And one of my friends received one from his dad . Others simply stole them but thanks to my uncle that owned a workshop I changed the numbers on the engines and made fake evidences so they were fully legal . And so the gang grew . From initial 6 , to 9 , 20 , 75 and as now it's now over 250 people some even twice our age . And I feel a bit proud that I'm a vice-leader of that whole army of punks and wanna-be Johnny Silverhands. It started off simply . We began riding abandoned highways , and after it became something serious we started doing street fights as we rode and fought with other biker gangs . Blood spilling everywhere and red lights of the police on our tails . After that straight to Haruki-ya and most of them either drunk or pill-popped . I always say that you can be a pill-popper and have some class and not be a devouring animal . I know only 2 people like that and they are the most normal in our crew. And the next day to school . I attended a Youth Vocational training school before they discovered the second coming of Christ abilities in me. I was moved to the "Better group" . That was made up of students that simply couldn't go to another school due to overcrowding , and that's my life story in a nutshell !"-Shinji finished his long monologue as Asuka putted her hand on her mouth
"Mein Gott, I thought that it was just a stylization and not a big deal . Holy shit Shinji . While I was attending college you were literally fighting for life . Im sorry Shinji"-Asuka said as she tightly grabbed Shinji's hand meanwhile thinking 'And i thought i had it rough . That's just sad , and that explains most of the ways he acts and lives . He simply doesn't know any better. When I was 5 I was still crying for Mama and thinking that I could rely on myself . He meanwhile was grabbed and assimilated into a community that changed him , i barely see him mentioning his mother . He said once that she died , but why doesn't he care about it . He simply grew out of it and focused on better things in life'
"I know that this can be shocking , but you have to understand . Let's just say that we are from two different worlds . Where everything contrasts everything . Where something is normal and something should be burned on a stach"-Shinji said with a smile
"How can you be so calm and happy about everything that happened to you ?!"-Asuka asked
"My mother used to say that as long as there is earth, moon and sun . Anywhere you can have paradise . So I lived with this rule my whole life . And it paid off"-Shinji smiled and gently letting go of Asuka's hand
"But I'm glad that we spent those 6 days together , and we could finally bury our battle axes and focus on a common task , and I silently hope that it will remain like that , so friends ?"-Shinji asked
"Friends"-Asuka said as awkward silence was passing for what feels like eternity
"So what do friends do ?"-Shinji asked
"Well , they hug . We could try that"-Asuka said as they both got closer and after a few seconds they put their hands around their shoulders as their bodies exchanged warmth . After 5 minutes of so they finally let go
"We should go to bed , we have an angel to kill tomorrow morning"-Asuka said as Shinji got up from the bed
"Your right , goodnight Asuka"-Shinji said as he tried to leave her room . Only to be yanked to the bed by Asuka
"Where do you think you're going, Shinji ?"-Asuka asked
"To bed ?"-Shinji said confused
"After what you told me and did you think I'll let you go like that ? And I said we should get to bed . I simply don't want to be alone tonight . Also you're warm , like really warm and it feels nice and fuzzy to have a warm body pillow"-Asuka said as she got under the covers
"Come on !"-Asuka nagged him as Shinji decided to go with the flow and carefully got in next to Asuka before his body was immediately taken by the redhead. After a few minutes they finally found their comfy position with Asuka snuggled to Shinji's chest as he rested his chin on her head. And so two lonely souls drifted off to sleep, finding comfort and warmth in each other, burring any signs of conflict and venom they had towards each other 6 days ago . Now they were just friends , very good friends
COUPLE HOURS LATER
"Remember we only got 33 seconds ! After we get out of here its full speed ahead got it ?"-Asuka asked Shinji who was in her comm window
"Yeah , and remember on the rule we settled on"-Shinji replied tightly grabbing the controls of one-chan
"IF IN DOUBT FLAT OUT !"-Both pilots replied in sync .
"Release the final safeties ! Launch !"-Misato gave the order as two giants flew out of the cages as the song started playing in their ears. After flying out both Evas went temporarily out of sync to give each other a fist bump . The fight was quick and effective . Both pilots having their smug devilish grins as the two Evas kicked Israel's core and did a backflip to both do a superhero landing just in time to see Israfel exploding . Misato meanwhile wiped the sweat off her forehead and kept thinking 'Just what happened during the last week ?'
A/N :Well the sync training and Israfel are finished ! For dissapointed Asushiners , relax and wait 4 or 5 chapters . Shinji and Asuka finally buried their war axes as they moved up from rivals/frenemies to good friends . Lets see how the newly formed friendship will be putted though many tests of normal school life
