At the barber shop, Tuck is standing in front of it wearing a white suit and a red bowtie. He has his hair slicked back. "Ah, nothing like a new haircut and your Sunday best to make you feel like a new man," He says happily while walking past a mud puddle. A truck drives right over it and he recoils back in alarm as the mud hits the wall, just inches away from him. Then the same thing happens when a truck goes by in the other direction, this time the mud landing right behind him. He glances over his shoulder to see a trio of people, and not only do they look raggedy, but they also smell. They start approaching him and he runs off in a panic. He skids to a stop as he sees Gerald, one of the kids from when Jenny was in preschool, playing in mud. He then looks up ahead to see a bunch of mud on the street. And to make things worse, the men were still after him. He takes off running, right towards Gerald, who giggles happily. He narrows his eyes in determination and jumps right over the blonde, who reaches out to touch him but misses.
Tuck slides to a stop on the other side, beaming happily as he doesn't have a single stain on him. Then a shadow looms over him and he looks up to see a giant slime monster...which goes straight into him and ruins not only his suit, but his hair as well.
"NOOOOOOO!" He screams in dismay.
Amy as Ms. Mecha and Jenny fly out of the sewers, dripping with sewer water. "Ew," Amy sticks out her tongue in disgust as she looks at herself.
"Alright, slime ball, we've had enough mud wrestling!" Jenny declares and they fly forward, punching right through the head, but it just reforms. They stare down at the monster, who roars at them, and they fly around it rapidly before making it fall apart. However, it reforms yet again.
"Gonna need something strong to stop this guy," Amy glances at Jenny, who turns into a giant hose and lands on top of a fire extinguisher. Amy holds out her hands, which form together to make a giant water cannon. She connects a wire to Jenny's hose and they both fire at the slime monster, causing it to fall back into the sewers along with all the water. The duo smile proudly for their victory, sharing a high-five. Suddenly the fire extinguisher shakes and the slime monster bursts from it, knocking them out of the sky as they sit on a wave.
"Yay!" Some kids in swim wear rush over happily, but then they get hit with slime and realize that it's not water. "Ew...!" They run off in disgust. The slime monster comes back again in front of them and it swipes forward at the girls. They fly over to a telephone pole, grabbing one sparking wire each. They shock the monster with it, but the shock has no effect on him. Instead, he grabs the wires from them and shocks himself, starting to play jump rope with it.
"Maybe we're handling this the wrong way," Jenny states as she turns into a scooper. She takes the slime monster off its feet and then drops him into a pipe, which leads to a giant shredder from a factory. The girls smirk at each other as the slime monster goes through a bunch of machines and processes before being put into teeny cups.
"Well, we saved the day already," Jenny tells her friend as they wave to Gerald and Tuck in the mud. They then fly past the clock. "And it's only 12:30! This can only mean one thing...time for some extreme robotic..."
"Goofing off!" They both exclaim happily. They fly into the mall, where Amy transforms back into herself hiding behind a car in the parking lot. The two head up an escalator once they're inside.
"A whole afternoon to ourselves...say, don't you have sisters at home?" Jenny raises an eyebrow at Amy, who waves it off.
"They're actually all busy today. Piri's got a play date slash sleepover at a friend's house, Emily's out looking for a job, and Claudia's got a study group. I'm the only one who's actually working up a sweat today because of my other life," She smiles in amusement, crossing her arms.
"A study group on a Sunday?" Jenny asks the girl in disbelief.
"What can I say? Claudia's determined, I'll give her that," Amy just shrugs in return.
"Maybe I can find something to impress the new boy in school," The robot blushes at the thought.
"Eh. He's okay, seems nice enough," The brunette dismisses, pulling out a magazine to read.
"Oh, come on, Amy. Haven't you shown interest in anyone once?"
"No," She raises a skeptical brow at the robot. "You do know that even if I do, I'd still have to bring up...this whole situation," She gestures to herself, meaning her being transgender, and that's not always an easy conversation with a guy who would seem interested.
"Guys oughta look at you for who you are, not who you used to be," Jenny rolls her eyes.
"And how," Amy snaps her fingers a little in a sassy way before Jenny's belly bolt beeps. Her monitor comes up and reveals her mother.
"XJ9, hurry up and get downtown! There's a giant muck monster on the loose!"
"Don't worry, Mom," Jenny assures with a smile. "That muck monster is toast," She then hangs up, but Nora reappears.
"You took care of it already?"
"Yes, Mother," Jenny hangs up again, this time in annoyance. Amy rubs the back of her neck, but Nora comes back.
"But how did you dispose of the mud monster?" She wonders, some girls from school seeing them and laughing at Jenny. She glances back in embarrassment while Amy just glares at the trio.
"Mom, please! You're embarrassing me," The robot frowns at her mother. "Can we have the cross-examination after we go shopping? Thank you," She hangs up completely on the woman. "I wish I had parents like yours, Amy."
"Oh trust me, no you don't..." Amy mutters in dismay at the thought.
"Well, at least they're too busy to call you constantly like this..."
"To be fair, you're a crime-fighting robot that she created. It only makes sense that she'd have questions," The brunette points out. "I'm your partner, but I don't have as much training as you've had to deal with any situation. Only your mom's done that for you."
"Yeah, I guess, but now that we're done with fighting today, I just want some girl time," Jenny admits to her.
"Well, I can at least promise that," Her friend smiles at her.
The duo check out earrings, but Nora reappears between the two of them. "XJ9, when you defeated the muck monster, did you-"
"Taken care of," Jenny cuts her off again.
Then they try on shoes together at Zapato's shoes, with Jenny holding up a tiny heel. She beams as Amy tries on some high heels and shows them off, only for Nora to come up again.
"But how did you-"
Jenny once again hangs up.
The duo are then at a music store to check out some CDs until Nora makes herself known again. Jenny frowns in annoyance, hands on her hips. "XJ9, it's important that I find out the exact details of how you disposed the muck monster." As she's talking, Jenny places her headphones over her ears. Nora makes the monitor move in front of Jenny. "Are only certain methods that will work permanently. Amelia, please talk some sense into her!"
"I don't know anything of what you're talking about," Amy lies while holding up her hands innocently. "I can't stop her from relaxing and frankly, you should probably wait until she gets back..." She can understand why Nora needs to know, but there's a time and place for that, and it wasn't during shopping. Jenny hangs up one last time and then removes the bolt, watching it beep before checking out another disc. "Don't you think you should've laid it down for her instead of doing that?" The brunette deadpans, Jenny just shrugging innocently.
"You've reached Jenny," Nora looks baffled as she's gotten voicemail. "Please leave a message at the tone." She growls in anger at this, putting the button.
"It's your mother! Pick up, pick up! How can I properly advise XJ9 if she hangs up on me?! There must be a way to speak to her without interruption!" She then flinches as she gets an idea, humming and rubbing her chin.
Later that night, dressed as a ninja, she rolls past furniture, swinging upwards and landing on a clock. She lands on the ground, hugging the wall before tiptoeing to hide behind a lamp. She glances around before looking up at the staircase. Like a snake, she slithers up the stairs, climbing on the walls. She peeks inside Jenny's room, crawling to the ceiling and hanging upside down. She's about to reach out when she loses her balance and lands on the ground. Jenny wakes up, sitting up in alarm before Nora pokes a side button to make her fall asleep again. She removes her mask.
"How can those young Asian ninja men breathe in these things?!" She wonders before holding up a wire. She connects it to Jenny's input plug-in and downloads something into her.
"Hey, Jen," Brad greets the robot at school. "Hey, Amy. What do we need for Chem lab today?" He wonders as the trio go through their lockers.
"We need the notes from chapter 2, and from...last week's..." He flinches as she falters, Brad turning around to her.
"Jenny?" Amy peeks past her locker door, and they see Jenny in a daze with a smile on her face. "Jenny, hello?" Brad waves a hand in front of her face. "Jenny? Are you malfunctioning or something?" Amy looks in Jenny's direction and gives a knowing look.
"Oh, I get it now," She comments, making Brad see what Jenny's seeing.
"Oh, the new kid again," The boy looks around and Brad smirks up at Jenny. "Have you talked to him yet?"
"Talked to him?" Jenny recoils back in shock. "What if I say something foolish? He'll pin me as a mechanical freak like all the other kids."
"The other kids don't think you're a freak. Well, maybe some of the kids think you're a freak..." He tries to think of who else sees her like that, aside from himself, Sheldon, and Amy. Speaking of, the brunette looks at him in annoyance for going on. "Okay, the vast majority of kids think you're a freak." Jenny narrows her eyes, crossing her arms at him. "But with this new kid, you can make a fresh start! Just relax and be yourself, in a non-freaky way."
"This is why I don't try anymore," Amy rolls her eyes.
"Says the one who's never gotten a crush on anyone in her life," Brad deadpans at her. "How would you know, anyway?"
"Hey, it's not my thing, and I don't need to know what it's like because that's just my vibe," Amy argues back, hands on her hips. She and Brad then start arguing to each other, Jenny just staring at them before seeing the new kid walking towards them.
"He's coming this way!" She exclaims, but they seem to ignore her.
"You know, I always wondered if you had a small thing going on with Sheldon," Brad points out and Amy immediately recoils back in shock.
"Ew! No offense to Sheldon, but no way. We're just friends now! I never felt anything for him."
Suddenly, the robot's monitor appears to reveal her mother. "Ah XJ9, there you are," Nora looks oddly confident this time around.
"Sorry Mom, can't chat right now," She presses the side button, and her eyes widen as the monitor doesn't go away.
"I don't call you to chat, young lady. I have important things to discuss," Nora defends herself, Jenny grasping the monitor in a panic.
"Mom, what are you still doing here?!"
"I updated your communication software so you can't tune me out," The woman answers with a smug smile. "Now, about that muck monster-"
"There's gotta be a way to shut this thing off!" Jenny hits the mini TV repeatedly, but that does nothing. She then tries to shove it back into her body. "Get...back...in there!"
"Jenny, cool it!" Brad whispers to her. "Try and act smooth," He advises her and Amy scoffs.
"And what would you know about being-" The boy covers Amy's mouth and she gives him an annoyed look. Jenny whimpers in fear and then ducks to hide into her locker. She muffles her mother by covering her mouth with her own hands.
"XJ9, how dare you try to muffle me!" She muffles in protest while Jenny watches the new kid walk past the locker. She glances outside to see Brad coming up.
"Smooth, Jen. Real smooth..." He then leaves and Amy sighs.
"Guess she really didn't like being hung up on all the time..." She rubs her neck awkwardly while Nora moves the monitor to face Jenny.
"This erratic behavior only confirms my decision that you need closer supervision! But don't worry, from now on, I'll be with you always..." She smiles happily, but Jenny doesn't feel that way because the last word echoes for her. Today was gonna be really hard to get through...
In Mr. Piggot's chemistry class, everyone's not paying attention to the teacher, but to Nora instead as she's complaining about the quality of the class. Not just by looks, but also by equipment. "You call this a chem lab?" She scoffs in dismay. "My make-up bag has more equipment than this!"
Amy couldn't help but feel bad for the robot, who's hiding herself behind her book. "You have a problem with our lab equipment, Ms. XJ9?" He looks towards Jenny, only to realize that she wasn't speaking, but Nora was. He gasps sharply upon seeing her. "Dr. Wakeman?! The Dr. Wakeman?! Class, we have a very special guest visiting us today. Please welcome Dr. Wakeman!" There's very little applause as Jenny hides her head with her book, not wanting anything to do with this.
"Thank you, thank you very, very much," She smiles happily, the teacher approaching her.
"May I be so bold as to request that my esteemed colleague lead today's experiment?" He gestures to the front of the classroom.
"Oh, why I just couldn't! I-I'm totally unprepared," She gestures to herself.
"Yup, that's right!" Jenny covers her mother by slamming the monitor onto the desk. "Totally unprepared!" She then looks to Amy and elbows her to add on.
"Um, yeah! No need for that," She waves a nervous hand, but Nora pops up from the desk, surprising all three of them.
"Well, if you insist!"
Amy just facepalms as Jenny is taken to the front, holding up a cube of something using pilers. "Today, we will take this piece of gelatin and freeze it using two common chemical compounds found in any household fire extinguisher. Can anyone tell me what those compounds are?" However, everyone just stares at her, either just not knowing or not wanting to be teased for knowing. "Two common compounds. You can find them in any fire extinguisher." She blinks as she gets nothing and groans. "XJ9 or Amelia, would you please tell your classmates what the two compounds are?"
Amy just hides her face in her desk out of embarrassment for being called out, not wanting to participate in this at all. "Um...why should I know the answer?" Jenny questions nervously after seeing her friend. "W-What do you think I am, some sort of science geek or loser or something?" She gives an anxious smile to the new kid up in front.
"Ugh, we will freeze the gelatin with a 90-10 mixture of potassium acetate and potassium citrate." Jenny puts in the two compounds, dipping the gelatin in it, which creates a blue-white smoke. After the smoke clears, the gelatin is completely frozen. "Honestly, XJ9 and Amelia, we were just studying chemical compounds last week when we sent your legs out to be polished and when we shaved Amelia's armpits."
"Oh, why?" Amy murmurs in dismay at this, the whole class snickering after hearing this. Someone passes a note to a boy and he reads it.
"Young man, bring that to the front," Nora instructs and the paper is given to Jenny. "XJ9, please read the note aloud."
"I'd rather not," Jenny frowns down at it. "Especially since it involves my friend."
"Jen, I swear if you read that," Amy grits her teeth at the robot, as she already has a bad feeling about it.
"XJ9, read the note!" Nora orders again angrily.
"It says, Jenny, the legless loser science geek. And Amy, the tall hairy loser he-she," The robot blushes in embarrassment. Amy grips the top of her head while sinking down further in her seat after hearing that, the whole class laughing out loud. Jenny frowns at this, and at Amy, who doesn't look up at all.
"I don't get it. What's so funny?" Nora raises a brow, confused by the reaction and by Jenny's glare directed at her.
"Vegetable oil and hamburger grease are hardly fit substitutes for the proper lubricants a growing robot needs," Nora scolds the lunch lady, Jenny facepalming herself. Brad and Amy approach her, the robot smiling nervously as the latter doesn't look happy with her.
"Dr. Wakeman, will you be joining us for lunch?" He has a happy smile on his face as she appears in front of them.
"Certainly, Bradley," She smiles in return.
"Gee, I thought those pores and fungi you were growing took constant attention," He brings up casually and she flinches in realization.
"Oh, I do need to swab the petri dishes! Ha ha. Back in a jiff," She then hangs up and the monitor disappears.
"You know, Jen, just because your mom doesn't wanna be cut off doesn't mean I have to be involved, you know. I don't need to feel second-hand embarrassment from a whole class. You gotta talk to her, this needs to end," Amy tells her in annoyance.
"I know! This is the worst day of my life! My mom's unstoppable," Jenny laments to the duo.
"Well, she's gone now," Brad places a hand on her shoulder, glancing over his shoulder. "And look, the new kid is sitting by himself." The three approach him with their lunches. "Hey, man, mind if we sit with ya?"
"You sure you wanna be seen with the new kid?" He asks back, Jenny looking down nervously at him. "Most people here treat me like some sort of freak."
"I totally understand!" Jenny exclaims loudly, freaking him out a little bit. Amy clears her throat and she looks up to see the girl shaking her head slowly. "Uh, I mean...I've been through the same thing," She smiles softly, earning a more relaxed reaction from the boy. Suddenly the monitor reappears, causing her cup of oil to spill onto the new kid.
"My spores look fabulous!" Nora announces happily, Jenny fed up with her.
"Mom! Look what you've done this time!"
"Oh, please," She gives a look of disinterest at the boy and the stain. "No use crying over spilled oil. There's a common chemical compound that will take that right out. Or have you forgotten that one as well?" She turns around slowly to Jenny, completely missing the point.
"Mother! You're embarrassing me in front of my friends!" Jenny argues back to Nora, who gives a look of shock.
"Well, if they can't appreciate good science, then they're no friends of ours! For example, after today's class, Amelia is in desperate need of improvement. Just because you live across from us, young lady, doesn't mean I can't watch over your grades. Think of your parents," Nora gives Amelia a condescending look, the brunette fuming. "In fact, I'll arrange a study group with some colleagues of mine, you could use the crunch time."
"Jenny..." She says while gritting her teeth, gripping her cup. "You mind taking this somewhere else other than at our table?" She has no idea how or why Nora would know about her science grades, but she's definitely not okay with it. If she ends up telling her parents, they were NEVER gonna let her live it down. And one of the main reasons why she's slipped a bit is because of all the superhero stuff. If they find out about it, she might never become Ms. Mecha again.
"My friends or their school lives are none of your business!" Jenny shouts back in defense of Amy.
"Why, I never! I am only trying to do what's best for my daughter!" Nora yells at the robot.
"You wanna do what's best for me? Then go away! FOREVER!" The robot screams and Nora's lip quivers.
"I thought I gave you a heart when I made you, but I guess I was mistaken!" She sobs into her sleeve and then runs off crying. Jenny just gives a blank look, thinking that her mom's just being dramatic.
"Mom...Mom?" She looks back as she sees that Nora has disappeared, now growing concerned. "Mom..." She frowns sadly and then glances back at the new kid, who just stares at her. "Uhh...heh, heh. Sorry about that."
"Awkward," Amy says to herself, slowly sipping her juice while looking away.
"Aw, don't sweat it. I've moved around a lot," He tells her with a smile. "But two things never change: kids are embarrassed by their parents, and every school serves the same jiggly gelatin cups." As soon as he opens it, the gelatin takes over his head, and the same thing happens with the other kids once they open theirs. Jenny stands up in shock as the gelatin sticks one student to another, and then they all form into one entity...the muck monster, but now it's a gelatin monster. Amy dives underneath a table and transforms before flying out and landing on the table.
"The muck monster!" Jenny exclaims in alarm. She activates her flying pigtails, taking into the sky with Amy. They're about to punch the monster when some students scream in alarm of the possibility of being hit, which makes her stop. They try attacking with a saw and flails, but that has the same effect. As does trying with a hammer. The two fly away, the monster roaring at them as they fly side-by-side. "How can we fight this thing with the kids inside?"
"We've gotta defeat it from the inside, get it to explode or-"
"Wait! Mom's experiment," Jenny realizes with a smile. "We could freeze it! But what were those compounds again? Now I've really forgotten them!" She holds her cheeks with a frown.
"Well, you better remember fast, because-" The gelatin monster punches her through the cafeteria doors hard.
"No!" Jenny shouts as she lands outside the cafeteria, and Amy's helmet falls off, revealing her face. She groans in pain and someone stands over her, gasping sharply. They hold her up by her arms and drag her away. "Mom, it's the muck monster!" She exclaims in a panic, but just sees her mom's lab. The monster roars in her face and she flies backwards. "He's back, I need your help!" He tries attacking her again and she goes towards the ceiling. "Help!" The gelatin monster absorbs her with its hand, and freezes as someone arrives.
"Eat potassium acetate and potassium citrate, muck boy!" She exclaims while having some fire extinguishers and a hose. She points smoke at the monster, causing it to freeze. Jenny shakes her body so that she can break out from the inside, and releases everyone when the ice breaks. They're left shivering, but are otherwise okay.
"You guys okay?" Jenny asks Brad and the new boy in concern. The boy gives her a thumbs up while shaking.
"The gelatin muck monster wasn't so bad," Brad looks up at the icy cafeteria. "A flaming fondue monster, now that would've been trouble."
"We're lucky my mom showed up," Jenny smiles happily and then remembers her fight with her mother. "Where'd she go? Mom? Mom!" She doesn't see Nora until she appears on monitor.
"Yes, XJ9?"
"Uh..." She looks at her mother in guilt over what happened. "I just wanted to say...thanks for saving us. I'm sorry I was so mean to you before."
She turns to the robot, looking away sadly. "Oh, and I'm sorry for being such a pest. You need time to be alone and to hang with your friends."
"If I only listened to you yesterday, none of this would've ha-"
"Well, that is where the trouble started," Nora starts lecturing her. "If only-"
"I thought you weren't gonna be a pest," Jenny interrupts in annoyance.
"If you'd let me finish a sentence once in a while, I wouldn't have to bug you!" Jenny starts slamming on the monitor with an angry look on her face. "I swear, it's hard to get a word in edge-wise with you. Only five minutes off the assembly line, and you think you know it all."
"Hey, uh, Jenny," The new boy speaks up with a smile. "Can I give you a hand?" He smirks while holding up a wrench.
"Hey...wait a second! What are you doi—You can't do that!" He does it anyway, and soon, the monitor is left in the hallway, detached from Jenny. "XJ9, you come back here and reattach me this instant! Do you hear me, young lady?" She walks off with the boy, a smile on her face. "XJ9, you can't leave me here!" The monitor hops around while trying to catch up with the robot. "XJ9, XJ9!"
However, Jenny ignores it and then she gasps as she realizes something. "Amy," She whispers, glancing over her shoulder to where Amy landed, but doesn't see a sign of her and is confused. "Huh..." She looks baffled that Amy's gone, wondering where she went.
She then hears a psst and looks to see Brad behind her. He holds up a note that was left behind, which says that Amy's okay, and that she's in the bathroom. Jenny sighs in relief to herself, walking off with the boy again.
However...Amy's not at home, but at someone else's house. They fix up her helmet and place it over her head, looking over her as she lays down on a table. She's slightly banged up, but otherwise, she's okay, and her armor is repaired as well. They sigh and watch her for a bit before she stirs, starting to wake up. She gasps sharply as she sits up, looking around, but she realizes where she is.
"It's okay, it's okay!" They tell her while holding up their hands. "I'm not gonna hurt you, I just fixed everything up."
She raises a brow in suspicion, looking at them up and down. "...And you didn't remove my helmet?"
"No!" They insist, waving their hands. "I-I have no idea who you are, I swear!"
"...Well, thanks. But I gotta contact my partner so that she knows I'm okay," She jumps off the table, and they stop her.
"Whoa, hang on. I left her a note, she knows everything. Don't stand up too fast."
"I'm a superhero, don't worry," She waves it off as she shows that everything is working fine. "See? Nothing broken. Either way, I can't stay, um...danger's calling, ya know?" She shrugs and they sigh at her.
"Okay...I can't stop you. But if you ever need anything, you can always come back anytime."
She smiles and nods before the garage door is opened and she flies out of there, waving to them before taking off into the sky. They step out of the shadow of the garage to reveal that it was Sheldon the whole time. He shakes his head slowly as he watches her go.
"Amy..." He mutters at this. "What have you gotten yourself into?"
