Chapter 27 : Fall of an icon
"How long have I been laying here ?"- Shinji thought as he regained consciousness with the only thing in his sight being a road in a cracked visor of his helmet , Shinji took it off as he noticed the bends and twists the supposed crash left on it . 'Aimi is gonna kill me'-he thought as he took a look at his biker clothes that looked like he took a slide on a cheesegrater. Shinji took a short walk as he finally noticed his motorcycle ,the Highway Star ,or at least what was left of it. The result of years of work , racing , tests and maximizing its performance . Was now rotting corpse inhibiting the lonely street , 95 % of the bike was totaled and the only place that those parts belonged was the trash compartment that resided abort the death star . Shinji Ikari , one of the proudest , most skilled , most smooth talking , most battle hardened . And most poker faced teenager in Tokyo 3 felt something crack in his heart, for the first time since the death of Takuro and Mana's escape Shinji sank on his knees and took one of the parts that probably were once a fairing due to the "CIRCUS-1" Sticker still barely holding on it , and started to silently sob , he did drop his bike several times but it could be always fixed , this was the motorcycle equivalent to being in a blast raidus of a atomic bomb. 'How the hell did it come up to this ?'- he thought as he went back with his thoughts to the start of the day

"Come on Dummy ! Wake up !"-Asuka said as she was poking her boyfriends arm , Shinji meanwhile was trying to evade her attacks by bending himself in different directions under his cover
"Please Asuka , five more minutes"-Shinji said as he tried to dig his face in his pillow to somehow drift himself away to sleep again . On the other side of the covers Asuka wasn't going to give up easily as she ripped the covers away from Shinji revealing his naked form
"No can do mister , we have School and we woke up earlier because we have to clean the HS , also breakfast"-Asuka said as Shinji frowned and reached for cigarette box and a lighter before having his hand slapped by Asuka
"OW ! WHAT WAS THAT FOR ?!"-Shinji asked as took his hand back towards himself and looked upon Asuka
"We are trying to get you off those things, remember ? And don't give me the 'actually LCL purifies our Lungs everytime we get inside the Entry plugs so no lung cancer for me' tirade , remember that after the whole ordeal we won't be needed and LCL will be harder to get by . And What will you do than ?"-Asuka asked as Shinji frowned and looked at his girlfriend , or at her tits .According to Shinji's primal instincts both were great to look at
"Ok maybe , but for hitting my hand you deserve some punishment"-Shinji said as he launched himself at Asuka and started tickling her , Asuka meanwhile lost the control of the situation and trying to retaliate the attack , but lost the battle faster than Denmark lost world war II and fell on the bed again while laughing crazy

"OK OK I'M SORRY ! BUT STOP NOW !"-Asuka said as Shinji finally stopped tickling her
"I'm going back to my room to get dressed , and I'm hoping to see breakfast ready"-Asuka said as she sent Shinji a kiss and left his room . Shinji took a look across his room and grabbed the cigarette box and his neural connectors and put them on his head . 'Who cares , from one ciggy no one will die'-Shinji said as he opened his drawer to reveal his school uniform , with disgust as his punk side completely opposed the idea of submission. After he finished putting on his uniform he added his final touch in the form of his jacket and put the rest of his biker clothes into his sports bag alongside his trusty laptop and his SDAT, and made his way to the bathroom to wash his teeth and get his face and hair in check. After getting that in check he made his way to the kitchen to make breakfast . Shinji cracked his knuckles and opened the fridge to grab the ingredients he needed for both the breakfast and school bentos. After 30 minutes of cooking a nice mix of both western and eastern breakfast classics alongside three sodas and two beer cans for the first two roomates , as Shinji settled the food on the table he noticed his falling apart guardian , also known as Captain Misato Katsuragi
"Morning Shinji-Kun oh , you already prepared me a beer !"-Misato said as she grabbed the can and took a long sip out of the can
"KYAAAAAAAAHH ! NOW THIS IS WORTH LIVING !"-Misato said as Shinji looked at her with an amused look
"you said same thing yesterday , and two days ago , and three days ago , and a month ago"-Shinji said as Misato was more focused on her beer
"Fine , but i still think i stand corrected"-Misato said as Rei and Asuka revealed themselves to them and sat to breakfast with Shinji doing the same
"So , who's gonna clean up the bike ?"-Asuka said as he dug up his rice. 'Damn i'm so good'-Shinji thought as he brought out of his trans by a knock on his arm by Rei
"Ah yes ! I'm gonna clean it up , you and Rei can go to school . I'll catch up than"-Shinji said as they finished breakfast and as the girls said goodbye to Misato he got to the bathroom again and filled a bucket with steaming hot water alongside some napkins and detergents before finally also leaving the apartment and grabbing on to the next elevator and making his way down to the parking lot to see Rei and Asuka waiting for him
"Are you sure you dont require our assistance ?"-Rei asked as Shinji laughed out loud
"Relax Sis , I'll take it . You and Asuka over there can go catch a train while i take care of the bike"-Shinji said as he kissed Rei on the forehead and then he kissed Asuka on the lips and said goodbye to them , as Shinji was left alone he put the bucket and cleaning equipment on the ground and took out of the bag his SDAT and one his tapes before sliding the tape in and gingerly putting the earbuds in his ears before music flood his ears

For the next 20 minutes thanks to feeling the pressure of time of being late to the ultimate waste of time that was school Shinji was putting a wave after wave of detergent mixed water that he later swiped down with a swiss watch precision he was whipping every part of the Shinji put a napkin back to the bucket he looked at his bike with his arms crossed
"On paper it is 95 , but from looks it's 2005 !"-Shinji said as he checked the time on his phone . 'Fuck , 20 minutes to the first Lesson'-Shinji said as he grabbed his sportsbag and put on his helmet before starting his bike hearing its modified heart come to life Shinji jolted away from the apartment and skipped almost every stop light except for the zebra crossings as he noticed there were alot of preschoolers being escorted across by their teachers. One one of them he was poked on the leg by a pink haired girl
"How can I get a cool motorcycle like you sir ?"-the girl asked as Shinji looked at her an than at the light timer
"Eat your veggies and learn your numbers"-Shinji said as the girl stared him a bit
"Midori ! Join the rest of the group !"-the teacher or someone responsible for the kids said as the girl joined the rest of the group and the zebra was clean and Shinji blasted off to finally reach his destination, which was his School . Shinji got off the bike and put the canvas on it before going to his Classroom and opening the door with a Kick , as he took his seat the classic formula followed with the softer sex being enchanted and plotting ways to win him back from Asuka.'To be honest i wonder what kind of crazy ideas to win me , i have to ask Asuka'-Shinji thought as their teacher started another boring monologue about the second Impact as Shinji was fixing his boredom with 4chan and 2chan while silently laughing under his breath . Asuka noticed that and started typing a message to Shinji

As the conversation stopped Shinji again focused his thoughts on scrolling though weird pictures and feeding greentexts . As the lesson came to an end Shinji grabbed his stuff and left the Classroom with his main goal at the moment being getting something to drink. After beating few meters Shinji found himself in front of the vending machine with a piece of paper that said "OUT OF ORDER" and his thirst was replaced with rage
"FOR FUCKS SAKE ! IT HAD TO BE BROKEN WHEN I WANTED A DRINK !"-Shinji explained out loud as he started to Kick the machine while silently letting out roars that would make Berserk Unit 01 jealous. While giving himself up to his rage Asuka walked in and noticed her boyfriend going Heihachi on the vending machine
"Hey , if you keep punching it it won't magically start working"-Asuka said as Shinji finally gave mercy to the poor machine and just looked at Asuka and than at his wallet
"I just want to get something to drink"-Shinji said as his face showed the frown of disappointment
"Well , you could've just ride to the nearest gas station , its 20 minutes long break period"-Asuka said as Shinji looked at her and than at the window that reflected his image , and facepalmed himself so hard that it left a visible mark on his face
"I'm so stupid , and you are a genius Asuka"-Shinji said before he kissed Asuka hard on the lips and grabbed his goggles and a gymsack out of his sportsbag
"I'll be back in 15 minutes , take care of my stuff !"-Shinji said as he rushed out of the school building and took off the canvas of his bike and started up his bike before riding out of the parking lot. Shinji took out his phone and checked for the nearest gas station . 'Ok, so it's 5 kilometers away . I have time'-Shinji said as he put his goggles on his eyes since he left his helmet in his locker. Shinji put his phone back in his pocket and jolted off to the station. As he left the main road he found himself from the school road back on one of the main streets. As he rode he noticed a thing on his display . 'Crap , low fuel level. Asuka was right with this idea'-Shinji thought as he reached the gas station . As he found himself in a tiny parking lot he noticed JSSDF and Heavy chemical industries trucks . Shinji got off his bike and stopped the engine as he thought about which fuel to put in . 'Now quality over price ,98 or 95 ? It's gonna take a lot of time to think since im thin on money'-Shinji thought as he looked at the prices
"HEY YOU ! FUEL UP OR LEAVE !"-a voice said as Shinji turned his head backwards and snorted in laughter about the source of the voice. A boy with a darker shade of skin and violet hair wearing JSSDF fatigues was looking at him as Shinji was laughing and took off his goggles
"And why would I do that Shithead ? You see the NERV plate ? that means i'm over your stupid organisation , so buzz off and wait"-Shinji said as the boy came closer to him and tried to send a punch to him that he catched
"Oh , So we want to do this the spartan way ? Fine , i missed having a nice fight"-Shinji said as he sent a punch to the boy's face sending him down on the ground. Shinji got off his bike and got to his battle stance
"Ok NERVtard , you want to fight ? You got it"- the boy said as he got back to his feet and sent a kick to Shinji's stomach that he managed to dodge before giving him a uppercut that Shinji took on his guard before receiving a hit on his face that crashed his guard , Shinji retaliated with a swift to his chest , as he noticed that his enemy was disoriented Shinji grabbed his arms and cut his legs crashing his stance
"Well , now that NERVtard is gonna do the same thing he did to your dear Jet Alone , don't screw with Eva pilots"-Shinji said as his judge-jury-executioner were beginning to take control over him as he prepared to carry out the penalty
"SHINJI ! LET GO OF HIM"-A familiar voice said as Shinji turned his head over and what he noticed was a familiar face with Blue eyes and short dark red hair wearing the same JSSDF fatigues beside another boy
"Mana ? Well that's unfortunate, looks like i'm gonna have to let you go"- Shinji said as he let go of the boys arms and walked up to Mana and the boy
"It's been a long time hasn't it ?"-Shinji said as Mana embraced him , surprised Shinji gave back the embrace as after few seconds they pushed each other away
"You haven't changed a bit, have you ? Almost 2 years and you still look the same"-Mana said as she ceressed Shinji's scar
"Wait , you two know each other ?"-the boy beside Mana asked as Shinji and Mana looked at him
"Well yes , Shinji, this is Keita . And over there on the ground is Musashi , Shinji helped me escape from the orphanage"-Mana said as she pointed at Musashi while Shinji shaked hands with Keita
"So , what are you doing here with your crew ?"-Shinji asked as he pointed at the trucks
"Oh , we are being moved here to assist the Evas with the Angels"-Shinji said as he had a worried look on his face . 'Damn you Rokubungi Gendo , you're not only putting my sister and girlfriend but also my childhood friend to defend your ass'-Shinji thought as he managed to take off the scared look of his face
"I have time for coffee to catch up on the times , but first i'm gonna fuel up the HS before Musashi over there tries to attack me again"-Shinji said as Mana chuckled , Shinji fueled up the bike up the cork with 98 gasoline while looking at Musashi . he sighed as gave him a hand
"Come on street warrior , the fight is over"-Shinji said as Musashi took his hand and got up

"I get that a lot"-Shinji said as he pushed his bike to the parking lot and made his way to the cash register to grab not only drinks but also two coffees . As he walked up he noticed a tired looking 17-year old girl
"Fuel from dispenser six and those drinks , plus two coffees , one black and one with milk"-Shinji said as the cashier counted his drinks and fuel
"3574 yen , wait few minutes and you can pick up your coffees"-The cashier said as Shinji took out 5000 yen bill
"You can keep the change , for putting in such a nice work you deserve some tips"-Shinji said as the girl blushed and got onto work with his coffees. Five minutes passed as Shinji grabbed the coffees and put his drinks to his gymsack before noticing another piece of paper under one of the coffees , Shinji checked it and noticed a number on the paper
"Call me later"-the girl said as Shinji had a mixed expression on his face
"Sorry , i have a girlfriend already"-Shinji said as the girl blushed and walked away
"But I have another use for that paper , do you have a pen ?"-Shinji asked as the girl gave him a pen and wrote a number on the other side of the paper
"Thank you , and once again sorry"-Shinji said as he handed over the pen
"No problem , and the girl is lucky . Most of Bosozoku like you cheat on their girlfriends , it's rare to see a loyal one"-The girl said as Shinji said goodbye and walked away with the coffees and noticed Mana and her copilots sitting at one of the tables
"Coffee is here , i hope that i remembered correctly"-Shinji said as he handed Mana her coffee , Shinji took a sip of his coffee as Mana took a sip of hers
"Milk ! You still remember !"-Mana said as Mushashi and Keita looked at them
"So , how long do you know each other ?"-Musashi asked as Shinji and Mana putted down their coffees
"Since we were three or four , something like that. After a short time I joined Shinji and the rest alongside a few of my friends . Years passed and I grew tired of waiting to turn 18 so I decided to join the T-RIDEN-T program. Shinji cleared my data and helped cover my escape"-Mana said as Shinji looked at her , 'It really was almost two years ? The time I spent with Asuka really made it pass faster'-Shinji thought as he sipped his coffee.
"The question is , how can someone bring you out of Neogoya ? How is doing ? And most importantly, how are Takuro and Aimi doing ? And how are Aiko and Kaneda ? How is Kaori ? I really have to catch up"-Mana asked as Shinji looked at her . 'How i am gonna tell her , ok , the faster i'll tell her the better'-Shinji thought as he grabbed enough courage to tell her
"Well ,the reason I came here was because I was chosen by the Marduk institute to be the 3rd Child. Kaneda dumped Aiko after he learned that she was pregnant . After that he found a new girlfriend but he pays Child support and I pulled some strings to get her to a medical school. About my uncle , he died in a drive-by a year ago and I work my ass off to keep myself on the thin line of living onto some nice level of life. Takuro, though , died a year ago during one of our fights with the clowns from internal bleeding. His father commited suicide and Aimi lives with her mother here in the suburbs"-Shinji finished as he sighed while he looked at Mana who looked like a deer in the headlights and let go of her coffee
"So , you were left to yourself for the last year ? And Takuro , how many times have I told you about the risks of playing with fire ?!"-Mana accused as Shinji looked at his childhood friend while Keita whispered to Musashi , "It's some kind of a drama"-Keita whispered as Musashi nodded
"I thought that after I got this scar you knew I would never give up on taking the risks . About Takuro , it was the result not of a crash but an attack from one of the clowns. And i still haven't gave up on searching for his killer"-Shinji said as Mana closed her eyes and sighed
"Don't you think it's a signal from something that it's time to slow down ? I mean think about Asuka for god's sake . You want her to bury your dead body ? Think about Aimi , she lost a brother , you want her to mourn you in addition ?"-Mana asked a rhetorical question after rhetorical question as Shinji knew that the replies were complicated in his moral compass
"It's never enough for me and you always knew about it"-Shinji said as Mana shaked her head

Whatever it was, I was always supportive of whatever you did , even if you came to school one day with a giant piece of duct tape on your right cheek . But you simply have a lot to lose right now , Girlfriend , sister , Aimi , our friends back in Neogoya , think about it"-Mana said as Shinji felt his phone ring in his pocket , and noticed that he had 4 missing calls from Asuka
"Fuck , i have to leave . Mana , it was nice to finally see you again face to face after so long . Here you have Kaori's number since according to Kaneda she misses you , see ya on the battlefield"-Shinji said as he grabbed his gymsack and left the gas station before getting on his bike and jolted back to school . As he reached his regular parking lot he noticed Asuka waiting for him Shinji sighed as he knew what was coming. 'Crap , looks like i know what's coming , and something is wrong with the front right disk'-he thought as he turned off the bike
"I know that you care shit about School , but missing the entire lesson is something not fitting for you , so tell me what kept you for so long ?"-Asuka asked as both of them made their way towards the school building
"As I got to the station I noticed a JSSDF convoy made their stop at the same station . Apparently the T-RIDEN-T program is being moved here to assist us with the angels as an additional firepower. I met up with Mana and her coworkers and grabbed a coffee to catch up on the times , and I had to tell her about how many people died. Anyways , she said that i have to slow down"-Shinji said as Asuka looked at him with a mix of jealousy and curiosity . 'What kind of friend is she ? If they were so close as he said than she would support him on everything'-Asuka thought as she decided to push further
"What else did she told you ?"-Asuka asked as Shinji sighed
"She said that I have too much to lose if I die . She mentioned Aimi , Rei , and you . Crap i need a smoke"-Shinji said as he took out a cigarette and a lighter before lighting the cigarette up while Asuka was looking at him , 'Damn , if someone who in a different scenario would try to win him from me , is mentioning her rival as a way to calm him down , it is something to think about'-Asuka thought as she started to think about it . Rest of the school came to an end as Shinji went back using his motorcycle while Asuka and Rei used the train . As they sat in the train Asuka was thinking about what Shinji told her about his conversation with Mana. Asuka played with her phone as she was trying to get her thoughts away , Asuka thought as she looked at Rei who stared at the window and got the courage to ask her about her brother
"Hey Rei ,i want to ask you about Shinji"-She asked as Rei turned her head towards Asuka
"What do you want to ask for ?"-Rei asked as Asuka thought about the way how to put up that question before finally saying it
"Are you afraid about Shinji sometimes ? That he can hurt himself while out on his escapades ?"-Asuka asked as Rei looked at the window
"I am , but there is nothing I can do about it . Brother has been acting this way ever since he came here . I think it's a way of living for years . While he acted nicely towards me I could feel the tension in him . The feeling of asserting dominance while being in the room . I never wanted to say this to him , but it reminds me of Commander Ikari , also him wanting to constantly put himself in danger for the sole reason of adrenaline"-Rei said as Asuka began to think about it more. 'And now my roads were split off , I think I'm gonna have to talk about it'-Asuka thought as she returned to playing with her phone. As they reached the apartment Asuka now had her main task being to talk to Shinji about "Slowing down" a bit .
"We're back !"-Asuka said as she noticed Shinji working on dinner and Misato sipping her beer
"Welcome home Asuka"-Shinji said as he kissed Asuka and asked her to help him set the table . Asuka prepared drinks for the inhabitants of the apartment and put pads under the plates . After an hour or so they finished dinner and Misato decided to go to bed earlier. Asuka noticed that Shinji was cleaning the dishes and thought that it was the perfect occasion to talk to him
"Shinji ? What do you think about what Mana told you ?"-Asuka asked as Shinji finished with the last plate and turned his head to her
"I think that she simply doesn't get what we stand for . We live for the risk , we escape death on every occasion we have , i love her as a friend , but also i kinda feel wounded that she forgot who i am , and for what i stand for"-Shinji said as Asuka was trying not to wound him with her words
"But don't you think that she could be right ? I mean I know you lived in danger since you were a child . But don't you think that you are not in constant danger anymore ? That you can slow down ?"-Asuka asked as Shinji turned around with an expression that was mix of anger and disappointment
"So you also believe that i should be someone who i'm not ?"-Shinji asked as he looked at her with an expression that Asuka couldn't deduct
"I don't say you should stop being who you think you are , but-"
"But what ? Quit ?! Stop racing ? Saying that I peaked ? I thought that we both shared the same goal !"-Shinji exclaimed while Asuka grew more annoyed
"I never said that ! I only said that you could watch around the situation ! I love you , but for the last few months you've been becoming more reckless ! I've seen the reports ! You've been more of a maverick than before , for gott sake . YOU SHOT 25 PEOPLE !"-Asuka loudly exclaimed as Shinji was growing more and more enraged

BACK TO SQUARE ONE THEN !"-Shinji said as he grabbed his helmet and put on his jacket before he left the apartment , a minute or two later a sound of a modified SC28 was heard as Shinji jolted with just his helmet wallet and jacket while having and a growl on his face 'Stupid Asuka , who the hell is she to tell me what to do ? Im the Highway Star for fucks sake !'-He thought as he decided to enter a local street race , meanwhile Asuka felt her heart sink as she retreated to the beanbag . 'What did he mean square one ? that means that we're over ?'-Asuka thought as she tried to chase away the thoughts of being left alone before being patted by Rei
"You know that brother didn't truly mean it right ?"-Rei said as Asuka looked at her and realised that she was right , as Shinji was just complicated with his feelings as she was
"I know ! But I hate when he acts that way ! When he loses his cool his ass personality takes over and he becomes an alpha male !"-Asuka exclaimed as Rei looked at her
"It's only because he loses the control of his emotions , we both know who he truly is under his spiky outside"-Rei said as Asuka showed a little smile
"A caring but wounded intelligent boy with passion for speed and undying royalty to his friends"-Asuka said as she got up and wiped her tears
"When he gets back I'll talk to him again , but first we are gonna see how he is doing on track"-Asuka said as she took Shinji's laptop from his room and opened up his laptop . Of course with a set password . Asuka knew the password as she typed "G3ND0 R0KU8UNG1 SUC4S C0CK2 1N H3LL" and opened the performance up to see that Shinji was now riding at 250 km/h on 30,000 rpm . For the next five minutes Shinji was pushing the bike to the extreme , it was until Asuka noticed the massage "RIGHT FRONT DRIVE DISK DAMAGED" And her heart skipped a bit as she noticed all the massages on the laptop with the new massages flashing every seconds. 'Oh no , SHINJI !'-Asuka said as she grabbed the laptop and noticed that Misato as always left the keys for her alpine and put on some sweatpants before rushing out of the apartment and to connect the trailer that was parked in Shinji's trashroot drop . Asuka with all her strength managed to connect the trailer to the alpine and got inside to the driver's seat and put the laptop on the passenger seat and opened the GPS that according to a tracker inside the motorcycle was where Shinji was , or at least where the motorcycle was. After managing to dodge the cops and dangerous driving, she finally found Shinji . As she got out she noticed that Shinji was kneeling in what just in the morning was the motorcycle both of them worked so hard on making it go fast was now totaled but also how Shinji seemed broken and powerless
"Karma , I flew too close to the sun . And now i have to deal with the consequences"-Shinji said as Asuka kneeled next to him
"I was gonna talk to you about our conversation but-"
"No , I'm sorry . I acted like a jackass , and before I could notice that I wrecked the machine I love beyond repair . Cutting my connection with home and myself , my life revolved around this bike . My career , my money , my skills . Everything was put in here"-Shinji said as Asuka noticed the tears flowing from Shinji's eyes
"You wont give up right ? You are the Highway Star ! the problems have to overcome you not you them !"-Asuka exclaimed as Shinji let out a sad chuckle
"I was the Highway Star , the true HS is now totaled and i lost everything i worked for for so many years , and by my douchery back in the apartment i lost you"-Shinji said as Asuka embraced him from behind
"Lost me ? No no no no mister Ikari . We are stuck for life ! I won't leave you in any other way except a coffin . And look , the main frame and the engine survived !"-Asuka said as she pointed at the engine and frame that were left mostly intact
"Maybe , but rebuilding it back into its condition before the accident is nearly impossible without the equipment back home"-Shinji said as Asuka smirked
"We won't , it's time for HS to go supernova and be reborn"-Asuka said as she got Shinji's curiosity . Asuka got the laptop from the alpine and opened the design program to show Shinji's custom rocket engine design
"We are gonna build the HS finale"-Asuka said as for the first time in 30 minutes a tiny smiled curled up on Shinji's lips and he let go of the CIRCUS-1 Panel. 'This is gonna be interesting'
