Response to Reviews
Thank you to ZeroMK7, HunterHQ, Noobmaster, Guest, Ambiguous, Anonymous, Unknown, Unnamed, Donjusticia, Guest, E.T. 2000, Guest, Guest, Visitor, Guest, Pikachu99, Cosmic Cat, Portal, Savagwizar9000, Guest, and Black Rose Sword for reviewing Chapter 61 of Obscured Truth.
With a new year comes a new chapter, especially a chapter like this! I hope you're all doing well as we welcome 2022! May good fortune smile upon you during these turbulent times!
Alright, so let's answer some reviews:
ZeroMK7: Yeah... I forgot about that. But to clarify: Ace's victory was off-screen, but don't worry. There's plenty of chances for Drachen to win a duel at some point in Season 2. I hope you enjoy this chapter, as you'll find out a lot of new information!
HunterHQ: Yeah, Ace is doing something that'll affect Uchida Industries in the long term. Poor Ondina was stressed with everything going on, which was a key factor that prevented her from winning her duel against Ace. Operation: Kingdom Come is something that'll also hit everyone hard, that's for sure. The guards recognized Aso and Kyoko as friends of the CEO, as well as one of her clients, thus allowing them to bring her to the safe house. No, Gardai did not have connections with zoos. Gardai's currently on the run, and the FBI's chasing him, although it's a little tough at the moment because their forces are stretched thin. I mean, while the snakes were virtual, they can cause someone's avatar pain, which is similar to Blue Angel's situation from Season 1. Yes. The bosses are sent to different prisons so their forces can't coordinate and free them. I definitely remember Lucas Swank now that you bring him up. Unfortunately, in times like these, innocent people suffer as well. It's just life. Why did Go not use the Duel AI Implant Chip? For two reasons. One: It's currently in development. Two: Go didn't want anyone's help, as he wanted to defeat Playmaker with his own strength. As for your last question, Balius sent his troops and Amadeus to help Gardai out, while he also sent troops to protect Athaliah.
Noobmaster: Even if the former Abysstainer were to try and find Gil, he'd sadly fail, as Gil has his ways to cover up his tracks. There's only three chapters left until the Turf War arc ends, and then we'll return to the anime events... with a twist. If anyone attacked Café Matsuo, they better pray for their souls, as there's no way Yuhiro will show them any mercy. Considering how Yuhiro's mental state is slowly changing... let's just say it won't end well if you pay close attention to the story. No, I'm not shipping Barbara with Greg. All victims, whether they were from the Lost Incident or Project: Apotheosis, were given S-Class Protection from the FBI.
Guest: If Azrael was active in the Turf War, the bad guys would basically win. Azrael doesn't get himself involved because he wants to test the good guys. Don't worry: You'll get some info in this chapter in terms of Athaliah. Oh, if anyone dared to go after Miyu... that will certainly not end well for them, as Yuhiro will practically give her attackers no peace at all.
Ambiguous: Frog and Pigeon didn't see Seamus and Raguel's duel, and any information they got from Raguel and Lord Kazuma's duel was practically stolen by Azrael. By this point, Brion's practically impatient, as he knows where Athaliah is, but neither SOL Technologies nor the FBI has the backbone to attack Alpha right now. In other words, Brion's taking matters into his own hands. Of course Akira won't be able to use Blood Shepherd's mom as leverage forever. He'll need something else to keep the lone wolf on a leash.
Anonymous: You'll find out more info on Zero later on in the story. Honestly, Young Justice is one of my favourite shows I've ever watched, so expect a few more references from there. Do you want to see quotes from that show? An OC reference to one of the characters? Let me know your ideas in your review, as I'm open to ideas always. Oh yeah. Blood Shepherd practically unleashed World War 3 on Delta. Don't worry. Just read the story and all will be eventually revealed. It's just Ace ruling with an Iron Fist. No more golden rules. No more clearance tickets.
Unknown: At this point, you already seen Rook and Pawn in real person, so it's safe to say you'll see the real-life appearances of the other chess pieces later on. Delta's mainly consisted of assassins that use guns, so I doubt a ninja would use a gun. Ryoken's obviously one of Uchida Industries' best clients. You'll see Lord Kazuma soon, as currently, he's narrowing down his leads. Greg has a list of all the victims from Project: Apotheosis, so he knows about Brion and Gil.
Unnamed: Since Barbara's used to her field of work, she won't snap when someone dies. Rather, she'll honour them and move forward in life. No. Greg is too much of an ethical man to snap. That, and he's Rachel's guardian. Jericho hired Brion to spy on SOL Technologies and bring the Ignis to him only. Jericho didn't go after Ai because he had to keep a low profile. Since Azrael made Athaliah his servant (and by extension, Lightning's servant), he has the opportunity to utilize his connections. As Azrael wiretapped the Hanoi, he basically knows their moves before they can make them, thus letting Azrael stay one step ahead of the Hanoi. Sorry, my friend. There will sadly be no fusions between man and duel monster in this story. Still, there may be other things, so keep an eye on the story.
Donjusticia: Glad you liked both chapters. There's actually a limit on making data clones, as to make a clone, you need data material. Hope this helps.
Guest: The info on Amadeus's flash drive contains confidential information on it.
E.T. 2000: I'm happy you not enjoyed the chapter, but the duels as well. Yup. The Hanoi suffered a major loss, as Ace now controls Uchida Industries, thus giving Azrael more resources to choose from. The cards Azrael gave Ace and Speckles aren't Cyberse cards, that I can confirm. You'll see what I mean over the next few chapters.
Guest: Yeah… the Turf War will have a rather interesting ending, that's for sure. In a sense, Delta and Zeta are basically branches that provide for other branches, with the former giving assassins, and the latter giving supplies.
Guest: Of course Azrael and Wraith can do that if they really wanted to.
Visitor: Oh yeah. There will be a lot of clean up following the Turf War. What's stopping the cops from arresting Ace? Simple. Aside from Azrael, no one knows where he even is!
Guest: If Go didn't take the AI chip route, a LOT of stuff would change in the story. In a sense, it's necessary for Go's character to move forward.
Pikachu99: Well, the fact Ace's 20 years old definitely applies to the saying 'Big things come in small packages'.
Cosmic Cat: Happy you liked the chapter, and thanks for the five stars.
Portal: Look. I get what you mean. Go was simply fighting for his dream. However, if it starts to become unhealthy, the person would resort to any means just to accomplish it. In Go's case, it was taking the Duel A.I. Implant Chip. That decision turned him into a copy of Sergey Volkov, and it would have practically killed him had Playmaker not defeated him in their duel. Don't worry when I say this: Obscured Truth will flesh Go's character more, that I can confirm. If you're confused, just keep reading.
Savagewizar9000: Each chapter takes work to complete, and I also need to read it over to make sure it's ready for posting.
Guest: The reason why I named Chapter 61 Renewed Faith is to show people regaining their faith and trust in SOL Technologies, as they only have one more branch to take down before ending the Turf War. Let's just say Epsilon's samurais have some technology in their disposal for their swords, even though they're mainly an old fashioned branch. As for Shesizi, you may see her again later on in the story.
Black Rose Sword: We're all entitled to our own opinions.
With all reviews answered, I have a brief announcement before we begin. The Turf War arc will officially be over after Chapter 64! In the mean time, I hope you enjoy the chapter below!
Chapter 62: Shocking Revelation
The sky appears, full of clouds. Playmaker races through the clouds on his duel board, followed by Raguel, Soulburner, and Slipstream. Two swords then slice the clouds completely to reveal NEW LINK VRAINS. One of the swords, a katana with symbols inscribed on the blade, crosses downwards to the left. Crossing downwards to the right was a typical western sword, with a golden rain-guard and a blue grip. The sword also had symbols inscribed on the blade as well. The two swords made a shining X, causing the Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS! logo to appear, and underneath it, the words "OBSCURED TRUTH" ominously appear.
Yuhiro and Yusaku are walking down the street to school. Naoki runs past them, a large smile on his face. Aoi walks past them on the other side, smiling lightly and blushing at Yusaku. Then Takeru walks up behind them and wraps one arm around Yusaku. He then wraps the other arm around Yuhiro, surprising him for a few moments before being pulled to the side by Rachel, who's clearly happy to see him. Yuhiro smiles back at her.
Tsubaki and Hideki are shown boarding an airplane as they head to their destination. After sitting down next to each other in their respective seats, Tsubaki looks out in the window, which shows a reflection of Rosetta, while Hideki picks up the airplane guide and reads it. In the sky above them is Ace, a malicious sneer on his face.
Go Onizuka is shown wearing a hoodie as he leaves the waterfront for the last time. Outside of his home, he encounters Kenmochi and Yoroizaka, who are waiting for him. Smirking, the three of them raise their left arms into the air and enter NEW LINK VRAINS, with Go in his new avatar riding beside his new allies. Stregone crosses his arms as he looks down at them, a look of shock and disappointment on his face.
Kusanagi is then shown with Roxy at a nearby picnic table, both enjoying food and laughter while talking about technology. Flame and Ai are shown arguing in Café Nagi, while Herald ends up getting annoyed with their bickering. As a result, he snaps his fingers, causing Progleo to jump onto the desk and startle Ai and Flame.
At SOL Technologies, Akira Zaizen and Hayami are shown in Queen's office, with Queen handing them a signed order regarding Playmaker and Raguel. A look of hesitation appears on Akira's face, but he hides it just in time.
Azrael and Wraith are then shown with Ace and Athaliah standing behind them, shrouded in shadow along with their ace monsters Zerrziel, Ruler of the Evil Eyed and El Shaddoll Construct. Standing behind Azrael and Wraith though, is a black, bipedal dragon with red sclera, white irises, and black pupils obscured in shadow. The dragon roars before disappearing with Zerrziel and El Shaddoll Construct. Jumping above Azrael and Wraith is Malf, sporting a demonic expression on his face. He then extends his right arm forward towards the screen, darkening it completely.
When the screen becomes clear, Playmaker and Raguel are shown riding their duel boards next to each other, with Cyberse Witch and Cyberse Magician in front of Playmaker, and Cyreath Hercules and Cyreath Medusa in front of Raguel. The two are chased by Blood Shepherd, who directs two copies of Battledrone Sergeant to fire at them. Although the two of them are hit by the explosions the missiles caused, they escape unharmed. Suddenly, Drachen orders Red-Eyes Black Dragon to fire at them. In response, Playmaker and Raguel are shown swerving left and right to avoid the consecutive fire blasts. Joining the young man in the hunt is Electrolyzer, who orders PSY-Framelord Omega to attack Playmaker, but Raguel turns his duel board around and activates a card, causing Hercules to glow a bright light before transforming into Cyreath Hercules/Alpha Mode. His eyes glowing red, Hercules/Alpha Mode charged forward with his axe sword and clashed with PSY-Framelord Omega.
The screen then shifts to Slipstream watching the duel between Playmaker and an obscured Bohman, while Raguel duels Electrolyzer. Noticing Haru, who's also watching the duel between Playmaker and an obscured Bohman, Slipstream takes a card and summons Clear Wing Synchro Dragon, who roars at the boy. Haru, in response, takes a card and summons Hydradrive Nagini, who hissed at Clear Wing in the process.
Blue Girl and Rosetta are shown in NEW LINK VRAINS at a picnic table, laughing and enjoying each other's company. The two of them then turn their heads towards the duels going on in the sky, a look of concern on each of their faces.
Watchman's group is then shown, with Percival standing slightly apart from them as he makes a fist with his left hand. Simorgh, Bird of Sovereignty and Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon appear before a massive, red-skinned demonic looking monster with golden elements, several eyeballs embedded on its body and four tentacles with bladed claws rises from behind them.
The Knights of Hanoi are shown summoning their monsters. Motor Worm Spread Queen, Helixx Necro Darwin, and Dark Mummy Surgical Forceps first appear before fading into the background. Next is Dark Magician, Berserker of the Tenyi, and Lucifer, Condemner of the Burning Abyss, with Sunavalon Dryanome behind them. Borreload Savage Dragon then rises from behind the four monsters and roars loudly.
Akira is shown at Green Park with Emma, Gekiryushi, and Aoi, giving them details on finding the Ignis. Emma proceeds to make a flirtatious gesture at Akira, making Gekiryushi facepalm and comment on how flirting can be useful at a time like this. The two women then begin to argue, with Akira and Aoi trying to break up the argument.
Yuhiro and Progleo are shown with Miyu at the Den City Hospital, trying to help her walk. Miyu, who's using the parallel bars, ends up slipping, only for Yuhiro to immediately catch her from behind and help her stand up. Roxy then runs out of nowhere and starts pummeling Yuhiro, causing Miyu to almost fall backwards again to their shock. Catching her this time though is Medusa, who appears behind her and smiles, much to everyone's relief. Miyu smiles back, grateful for Medusa's help. The screen then flips around before showing Yuhiro on his knees, clasping an unconscious Miyu's hand in sadness and rage.
Cyreaths Hercules/Alpha Mode, Medusa, Hades, Poseidon and Zeus are then shown in the air, with Turboblaze Dragon racing past them. The five of them prepare to attack alongside Turboblaze Dragon, who unleashes his Desolation Flare attack as well.
Raguel and Herald are then shown on top of a tower, facing off against Azrael and Wraith in a duel. Behind Raguel and Herald is Turboblaze Dragon, while behind Azrael and Wraith is the black, bipedal dragon from earlier in the opening. Both dragons roar at each other. Raguel reeves up his sword, while Azrael unsheathes his katana before the two of them and their dragons charge at each other.
Yuhiro, Roxy, Miyu, Kusanagi, Takeru, and Yusaku are all shown sitting outdoors at a picnic table near the Den City Hospital, all of them eating hot dogs, and Takeru, Kusanagi, and Roxy are laughing. Three duel disks are shown on the table, with Flame lecturing Ai while Herald plays a game on Yuhiro's tablet.
Yuhiro, Roxy, and Miyu are sitting down on a bench outside the Den City Hospital, with Medusa standing nearby them and Progleo on Roxy's lap. Miyu proceeds to rest her head on Yuhiro's shoulder, causing him to blush as she smiles. Yuhiro smiles back at her, while Roxy and Medusa both smile at them, happy they're able to find happiness with each other. The scene then switches to NEW LINK VRAINS, with Raguel, Playmaker, and Soulburner standing on a building and looking out into the radiant sky.
At Café Matsuo, in the afternoon...
"The purpose of Pendulum Summoning is to basically spam out monsters from your hand and Extra Deck to your field." Yuhiro explained to an enthusiastic Arashi, who paid close attention to what the former was saying. This morning, Arashi asked if Yuhiro could teach him Pendulum Summoning, which Yuhiro was glad to do. After all, with the battles to come ahead, everyone needed a few tricks up their sleeves if they wanted to overcome those battles.
In exchange, Yuhiro asked Arashi to teach him Synchro Summoning, which was a reasonable agreement for the latter. Combined with Yusaku and Takeru teaching him how to Fusion Summon, Yuhiro will most certainly become stronger in the future.
Yuhiro took out a total of three cards and placed them on a duel mat in between him and Arashi. The first two were Cyreath Endymion and Cyreath Sigma, which he placed in the far-left and far-right Spell & Trap card zones. The third was Cyreath Hades, Lord of the Underworld, which he put in the right Extra Monster Zone. "The rule for Pendulum Summoning is that you can Pendulum Summon monsters whose levels are between the scales for the Pendulum cards in your Spell & Trap card zone."
"Okay. So since Sigma is a Scale 1 Pendulum monster, and Endymion is a Scale 8 Pendulum monster, that means I can Pendulum Summon monsters whose levels are 2 to 7?" Arashi asked.
"That's right." Yuhiro confirmed. "As Pendulum summoning is a Special Summoning method, your opponent can negate it with a card effect. In addition, Pendulum monsters always go to the Extra Deck when they leave the field. However, if a Pendulum monster is sent to the Graveyard from a different place..."
"They end up in the Graveyard instead." Arashi figured out immediately.
"Correct." Yuhiro said. "Pendulum monsters are Spell cards while in the Spell & Trap card zone, while they're monsters when they hit the field. Oh, and you should know something else. Because of the introduction of Link monsters, you can only Pendulum Summon one Pendulum monster from your Extra Deck to one of the Extra Monster Zones.
Arashi frowned. "That's stupid. Why don't they just let us Pendulum Summon the old fashioned way?"
"As much as I agree with your statement, we just need to roll with what we currently have." Yuhiro told Arashi. "There is, however, a way to circumvent that rule if you have a Link monster on your field that points to your Main Monster Zones. If you have it, then you can Pendulum Summon monsters from your Extra Deck to the Main Monster Zones that Link monster points to."
"Ah. That makes sense now." Arashi pondered over these explanations for a few moments before nodding at Yuhiro, indicating that he understood what Pendulum Summoning was. "It looks like we need to get me some Pendulum cards."
"Ugh..." Herald groaned, which caused Arashi and Yuhiro to turn to him.
"Something got you down there, buddy?" Arashi grinned after asking that question.
"Of course I'm feeling down, Arashi!" Herald answered, turning to him. "I'm grounded from using the Internet for an entire month!"
"And it's because you went onto Rule 34 to give Arashi some dating tips, right Herald?" Yuhiro immediately figured out, which made him and Arashi laugh at Herald's pain.
"Come on! I was trying to lend a hand to Arashi for dating Brea! And what did I get? Being grounded from using the Internet for an entire month!" Herald complained, his face having turned red from embarrassment. "Now I can't play Fate/Grand Order or other games without an Internet connection!"
"Only for now.." Yuhiro assured Herald. "On the plus side, you have time to play the Kingdom Hearts video game series. Or even Pokémon Sword and Shield."
Herald nodded after hearing Yuhiro's comment. "Yeah, I suppose you're right from there. Taking a break from gun games will most certainly help me out."
Satisfied, Yuhiro went over to the fridge and grabbed two juice boxes. One for himself, and one for Arashi. "Say, Arashi. I have a question for you."
"What's up?" Arashi said, as Yuhiro went back over to the table and sat down before giving him a juice box.
"You said I saved you twice. When did I save you the second time?"
Arashi thought it over before grinning. "Well, I was heading over to Den City by high-speed rail when its systems started going haywire. Turns out a computer virus called 'Goodbye!' was causing the train to lose control. I tried to shut the computer virus down, but for some reason, it was spreading faster than my code can run. Until another piece of code came in from somewhere else and shut it down in the process. As a result, my life, as well as the lives of those on the train were saved."
"Hang on. I remember that." Yuhiro recalled. A few weeks ago, he heard rumours of a virus called 'Goodbye!'. While it had a simple name, it was capable of tearing technological systems apart. So Yuhiro, seeking a challenge, decided to shut the virus down. It was definitely a challenge, as the computer virus replicated itself at the same rate as Yuhiro's line of coding that tried to shut it down. Until another piece of code that came from somewhere else worked with his to eradicate it. "So you were on that high-speed rail that day?"
"I was." Arashi confirmed. "And it's likely that the same individual who injured Takeda was likely after me this time. So in a sense, you saved my life. Thank you." He offered a fist bump to Yuhiro.
"No problem." Yuhiro reciprocated the fist bump with his.
"I have a question myself." Herald interrupted. "How the heck were you able to attend Den Academy? We all know that Takeru transferred to the school, and you most certainly are not a transfer student."
Arashi, in response to this question, laughed. "Of course I'm not a transfer student, Herald. If I was, I'd have a pink tie to prove it."
"Then how did you get into Den Academy?"
"Simple. My grandpa signed me up for an exchange program." Arashi quickly answered. "I got a text from him informing me of the news. Said that even if I was on my quest for justice, it was still important for me to attend school. I got paired up with a student named Souta Kubo, who ended up going to the Tokyo Horizon Institute due to the program."
"Makes sense there," Yuhiro and Herald stated at the same time. It most certainly made sense, considering how Arashi got here so fast. It usually took some time to apply a student for the exchange program, but the way his grandpa did it... he must have pulled some strings behind the scenes for Arashi to enroll in Den Academy quickly.
"Yuhiro! Arashi!" Roxy suddenly said, running towards the kitchen. "The both of you need to come here right now!"
"Roxy? What's going on?" Yuhiro asked her, only for Roxy to motion the both of them to follow her to the living room.
What Yuhiro saw next on the TV made him gulp out of pure horror.
"Men with guns have attacked the Den City Hospital, and have put the doctors, nurses, and hospital patients as hostages," a male reporter said. "Though the police have been contacted, due to the many attacks occurring around Den City-."
Yuhiro screamed as he turned off the television screen, much to the shock of Roxy and Arashi. He then ran over to the kitchen, grabbed his duel disk, and strapped it on.
"Yuhiro! Where are you going?!" Roxy exclaimed, as she and Arashi followed Yuhiro, who was running down the stairs. "Yuhiro, please stop and answer my question!"
Unfortunately for her and Arashi, Yuhiro turned around to face them, his eyes glowing red. Before Roxy or Arashi could say another word, Yuhiro ran outside Café Matsuo and headed forwards in one direction.
"He's headed to the hospital..." Arashi realized.
"No kidding, Sherlock." Roxy replied, running over to the garage, with Arashi following after her. After dialing a phone number on her phone, she started up the car and gave it to Arashi. "Answer it for me, okay."
"Yeah... sure..." Arashi said, a little scared of both her and Yuhiro.
"Hello?" a voice said on the other end, who Arashi recognized as Kusanagi.
"Kusanagi, it's Arashi! The Den City Hospital's being attacked, and Yuhiro's about to do something reckless!" Arashi exclaimed.
"The hospital's not the only one that's being attacked." Kusanagi lamented. "Den Academy and various police stations are being attacked as well."
"Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap..." Arashi quietly panicked.
"Give me the phone!" Roxy snapped, which made Arashi hand her the phone. Pressing a few buttons on her car, she connected her phone to the car's speakers. "Kusanagi, can you hear me?"
"Loud and clear, Roxy." Kusanagi replied.
"Arashi and I are going to the Den City Hospital to stop Yuhiro from doing reckless." Roxy explained. "See what you can do on your end. The more help available, the better."
"Right!" Kusanagi hung up afterwards. As Roxy started driving the car, a single thought was in her mind. Please don't do something you'll regret, Yuhiro, she thought.
Elsewhere, at the path near to the Den City Hospital...
"Calm down, Yuhiro! Getting all fired up won't help you right now!" Herald pleaded, only for Yuhiro to take three cards out of his deck and place them on his duel disk. Soon, Hercules/Alpha Mode, Atalanta, and Medusa appeared beside him. "Oh boy..."
"People are attacking the Den City Hospital." Yuhiro told the trio, with Atalanta and Medusa gasping, while Hercules/Alpha Mode snorting in anger.
"Miyu's in danger." Medusa quickly deduced, having noticed Yuhiro's facial expression. One that consisted of dread and anger.
"We'll protect the hostages, Yuhiro. Don't worry." Atalanta assured him.
"Atalanta. Find higher ground and snipe the troops from above. Medusa, I need you to sneak into the hospital and rescue the hostages. And Hercules/Alpha Mode..." Yuhiro turned towards him. "...smash. But no killing."
After Yuhiro climbed onto Hercules/Alpha Mode's back, all of them headed towards the Den City Hospital, where they found lots of troops patrolling the hospital. Each of them wore fashionable red suits, under which was a white shirt and a black tie, along with black gloves, shoes, and matching red sunglasses.
"Can't we just execute the hostages? I mean, the police won't be coming anytime soon," one of the troops commented.
"Not yet," the other troop answered. "Let's see what happens-."
WHOOSH!
An arrow flew out of nowhere and hit one of the troops in the leg, which made him fall down to the ground out of surprise.
"What the-?!" the other troop exclaimed, as he prepared to fire at where the arrow came from. Unfortunately, Hercules/Alpha Mode landed on the area the troops were in before they flew off the ground and landed on their backs due to the shockwave that followed. As Yuhiro got off of Hercules/Alpha Mode's back, the latter roared at all the troops.
"Open fire!" the troop commander shouted, as they fired all their bullets at Hercules/Alpha Mode, which practically didn't do a thing while Herald put up a shield for Yuhiro, protecting him in the process. Yuhiro charged at one of the troops and quickly disarmed him as Hercules/Alpha Mode proceeded to tear them all apart using Nine Lives. The swings he unleashed sent each of the troops flying before they were knocked out by the impact.
Yuhiro used the butt of the gun he stole to quickly fight against the other troops, having promised himself not to hurt any of them. Arrows from Atalanta's bow aided Yuhiro and Hercules/Alpha Mode, which stunned the troops momentarily before either of them proceeded to fight against the troops.
As for Medusa, she swerved past the chaos and proceeded to run through the hallways, successfully defeating each troop that stood in her way. Using the chained daggers in her hands, Medusa also rescued each of the hostages, clearing a path for them and the patients to escape the hospital.
Thanks to the combined efforts of Yuhiro, Herald, Atalanta, Medusa, and Hercules/Alpha Mode, the quintet was able to easily defeat all the troops. Yuhiro panted heavily as he knocked out the last of them. Seeing one of the troops being conscious, he walked over to him and knocked his gun away before grabbing him by the lapel.
"Who in Alpha gave you the orders to attack the hospital?!" Yuhiro demanded, having recognized the clothing all the troops wore.
"I'm not talking to a freak like you!" the troop replied, which made Yuhiro smash him to the ground out of fury.
"Yuhiro, please! There's people here!" Herald pleaded, as Yuhiro looked around the area. Sure enough, there were people watching him, his next actions. Some distance away, Roxy and Arashi found him, but didn't move forward, as fear was registered in their faces. They too, wanted to see Yuhiro's next actions.
"You better give me an answer soon." Yuhiro quietly warned the troop. "Otherwise, you and your allies will suffer my wrath, and that's something you don't want."
"Ace!" the troop confessed quietly. "Ace sent us here, hoping to cause real casualties!"
"Good boy. As a reward, I'm going to give you a message for you to give to Ace." Yuhiro quietly leaned to the troop's ear before continuing to speak. "Tell Ace this message came from Raguel himself. If he attacks anyone in the real world again, then I will find him, and tear both his arms and legs before mutilating his face. Do you understand?" The troop nodded in fear. "He will become this armless, legless, mutilated thing, rolling down the street. Like a turd, in the wind. Tell him this, and make sure you tell every other trooper in Alpha the same thing. For no one in Alpha is safe should any of you do what you did today." He then punched the troop hard enough to knock him unconscious. As for everyone else, Yuhiro pressed a few buttons on his duel disk, which released a device that looked like a combination of a flashlight and a cigar. In addition, Yuhiro put on a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses. Once Atalanta, Medusa, and Hercules/Alpha Mode returned to his duel disk, Yuhiro activated the device towards the people, which hit them with a flash of light. He also did this for the troops as well.
"Okay, listen up everyone. You know all this carnage around you? Men from the Black Market's Alpha Branch attacked this hospital." Yuhiro began. "But being brave doctors and nurses, you rose up, defeated the attackers, and protected the patients. You are all the heroes here, and I wasn't here when all this happened. I applaud you for your hard work towards the community. Thank you very much." As everyone was still in a daze, Yuhiro pressed a few buttons that released a small disk, which he attached to the troop he'd spoke to previously, forcing him to log into the network in the process. Walking away from the scene, he went over to the van, where he encountered a shocked Roxy and Arashi.
"Did you just neuralize everyone at the Den City Hospital?!" Roxy exclaimed out of fury. "What you did just now... could have exposed your identity to the Black Market, and if that happened-."
"That's why I neuralyzed everyone involved, as well as all but one of the troops." Yuhiro answered, the red glow still there in his eyes as he took a seat in the car. "For that troop, I gave him a message to tell Ace, which was from Raguel, not Yuhiro."
"As much as I want to agree with your clean-up plan, I'm with Roxy on this one. That was reckless, and it wasn't something I would do." Arashi commented.
Roxy drove away from the hospital, the fury still evident in his face. "I expected more from you, Yuhiro! To not give into your rage like that, and be the better man! But what did you do? You ran off like a maniac, tore the troops apart like they were Swiss Cheese, and practically wiped out-."
"Only the events the doctors, nurses, and patients saw today." Yuhiro finished, taking off his ray-ban sunglasses. "Roxy, if it weren't for that neuralyzer, we wouldn't have been able to cover our tracks all those years ago."
Roxy, in response to this, sighed out of exasperation. "Look, Yuhiro. Please genuinely promise me you won't do something like this again."
"I'm sorry." Yuhiro conceded, now regretting what he did. "I wasn't thinking, and I... did some really stupid things. I won't do something like that again."
"Good. Because you're grounded. No video games for an entire month, as well as no technology. Unless it's either for school or mission purposes of course. Do you understand?"
Yuhiro rolled his eyes as Arashi laughed at him, along with Herald.
"Karma, Yuhiro." Herald commented.
"Alright, Roxy. I hear you loud and clear." Yuhiro answered, before turning to Herald. "Can I ask you a question, Herald?"
"Sure. What's up?"
"How long does it take for you to give a Cyberse creature sentience?"
Herald thought this over before answering. "Uh, let's see. A few days for new cards, and a few hours for current ones."
"And for creating a new Alpha/Mode monster?"
"Unfortunately, a week or two." Herald sadly answered. "Sorry, Yuhiro. With the cards I recently made for you, it'll take a bit for me to take your request into account."
Yuhiro nodded. "Thanks, Herald. See what you can do." The rest of the drive was silent as the trio headed back to Café Matsuo. Once that was done, the trio headed over to the backroom, where they immediately called Kusanagi afterwards.
"Glad to see the three of you are safe." Kusanagi commented, the screen popping up to show his face.
"Yuhiro, you look stressed. Did something happen?" Takeru asked with concern.
"I snapped and attacked a lot of troops from Alpha." Yuhiro sheepishly admitted.
"That wasn't smart, Furutani." Yusaku straight up reprimanded him. "If those troops figured out that you and Raguel were one and the same..."
"They didn't. I used a neuralyzer on the doctors and nurses, as well as the unconscious troops." Yuhiro said. "I scarred one troop into sending my message to Ace from Raguel, not Yuhiro. Honest to God, how dare that bastard attack a hospital of all places?"
"Keep in mind that troops from Alpha attacked other places as well." Kusanagi reminded Yuhiro, Roxy, and Arashi. "At the rate things are going..."
"We need to stop Ace as soon as possible." Arashi stated. "To prevent more deaths from happening."
The others nodded in agreement. They can't prevent the damage that happened, but they can prevent more fatalities from happening.
"In that case, we should get to work on dismantling Alpha's barriers." Roxy began, as he pulled up a screen that showed what Alpha looked like. The area composed of flashy buildings of different sizes that shined various colours, along with a welcome sign. As for its main headquarters, while it consisted of a school-like building that emitted a different kind of light, it also had a light shadow as well. "Yuhiro, on the other hand, will log into the network and see if he can find weaknesses from my end."
"That makes sense there. One eye in the network and one eye in the real world can help identify things from different perspectives." Herald correctly deduced.
"It's like we're the hawks, while Yuhiro's the lion surveying the terrain." Ai said.
Flame, upon hearing this, facepalmed. "As much as I want to retort, Ai's right on this one for once."
"I'm always right!" Ai protested.
"No, you're not!" Herald and Flame retorted at the same time, which made Ai slump over in sadness.
"Anyhow.." Yuhiro got up from his chair before picking up his duel disk and attaching it to his left arm.
"Yuhiro." Roxy said, making him turn to face her. "Don't do anything reckless. The last thing we need..."
"Is for me to be wounded in this fight." Yuhiro finished. "Don't worry, Roxy. I'll be careful." He then headed over to the closed-off space and closed the door behind him. Once that was done, Yuhiro took out his deck and inserted it into his duel disk. "Deck Set! Into the VRAINS!"
Meanwhile, at an apartment in Den City...
Greg grit his teeth in stress and fury, overwhelmed by the events that happened. With the attacks on Den Academy, the Den City Hospital, and other areas, both the police and FBI were stretched thin. That meant lives were being lost, and that meant fewer men for the attack on Alpha tomorrow.
And on top of that, Brion recklessly logged into the network and was in Alpha at this very moment.
"DAMN IT!" Greg shouted, slamming his fists onto the nearby table. Everything was falling into chaos, and he was powerless to stop it.
"Greg..." Rachel said out of concern, which made Greg turn to her.
"I'm so sorry, sweetie. I'm just... really stressed right now." Greg apologized, kneeling down to her level before placing his hands on her shoulders. "If there's anything I'm grateful for, it's that you weren't in the school when those thugs attacked. There's going to be so much casualties..."
"If we can stop this war, then we can prevent more casualties from happening." Rachel pointed out.
"I know." Greg stood up on his feet before sitting down on his chair and typing on the nearby laptop. "Rachel, I'm sorry I didn't tell you this sooner after Delta was captured, but I found Athaliah's location at last."
"You did?" Rachel ran over to where Greg was, now paying attention to what Greg was about to say next.
"She's in the Black Market's Alpha Branch." Greg confirmed, which made Rachel slightly gasp before closing her mouth.
"Then we need to eliminate her quickly." Rachel immediately stated, going over and sitting in the chair beside Greg.
"But to do that, we need to not only pinpoint Athaliah's exact location in Alpha, but also deal with her various... tricks." Greg explained, turning to Rachel. "Let's get started, shall we sweetie?"
Meanwhile, at Green Park...
Akira, Aoi, Emma, and Gekiryushi had shocked expressions on their faces as they watched the news on the large display screen Akira projected from the small handheld device in his hands. The attacks on the Den City Hospital to Den Academy to other places... was just catastrophic. On the bright side, the doctors and nurses rose up and dealt with the attackers, which was what they told the police as they arrested the crooks.
To ensure they could meet at Green Park in person, Akira arranged for a large police escort that would guard the entire area. This way, the quartet could discuss the situation in peace.
"At least the hospital patients are safe..." Aoi muttered.
"They are. But I'm worried for the people in Den Academy." Akira responded. "At the rate things are going, school will have to be closed for a bit."
"It's the least of your worries, Akira." Emma told him. "You have to consider the other ramifications other places will suffer too."
"I'm well aware, Emma." Akira snapped at her. "We have to end this Turf War. Fast. Luckily, there's one more branch to stop." He pressed the button on the small handheld device, which changed the screen to show the Black Market's Alpha Branch.
"Alpha..." Gekiryushi correctly deduced upon looking at the screen. After all, what other area had flashy buildings of different sizes that shined various colours, especially with the sign that basically said 'Welcome to Alpha!' at the entrance? On top of that, there was a school-like building that emitted a different kind of light. One that had a mix between bright lights and a light shadow on it.
"Indeed." Akira agreed, the screen now changing to show Speckles before switching to his real-life identity Saburo Inoue. "Ace was originally the Alpha Branch's head, but since becoming the Overseer, he appointed his assassin Speckles as the new head to keep it under his control. Though we know his real-life identity as Saburo Inoue, the police weren't able to find him."
"Saburo Inoue..." Aoi muttered, before her eyes widened in shock. "That's one of Den Academy's students!" How in the world did one of Den Academy's students become a criminal?! Though Yuhiro became a worker on the Black Market once upon a time, he only did it to support someone else. But this... to think a student would become a criminal for their own gain. That was just... straight up wrong.
"Alpha has the last Skyhook in place. If you take Speckles down, you can destroy Alpha's Skyhook, and we'll be able to deal with Ace once and for all." Akira turned to the three girls. "However, I need to warn the three of you. Being a criminal, Speckles will be prepared for anything and everything, so be on your toes for whatever he has in store."
"Got it." Aoi nodded, along with Emma and Gekiryushi. With the meeting over, Aoi followed Emma and Gekiryushi to the nearby taxi, which waited for them as they got into the car. Once that was done, some police officers escorted the taxi to its destination.
As for Akira, he went over to his limo, with Isomaki and a police escort waiting for him.
"Are you feeling okay, sir?" Isomaki asked Akira. "You seem stressed."
"Apologies, Isomaki. Just... a lot going on." Akira replied, before getting into the car. Once that was done, Isomaki headed over to the driver's seat and got inside before starting up the limo. Soon after, the limo began driving back to the Zaizen residence, with some police officers escorting it in the process.
Elsewhere, at the Den City Regis Hotel...
"Nice place." Aoi commented, as she, Emma, and Gekiryushi went inside the hotel room.
"It's not much, but it fulfils its purpose." Gekiryushi replied. "Take a seat on the bed. Or at the desk chair. Wherever suits you."
"I don't mean to be a nitpicker here, but my apartment's far bigger than this." Emma said, which made a blood vessel appear on Gekiryushi's forehead as her right eye twitched in annoyance.
"Well, in my time here, I didn't expect to have company." Gekiryushi pointed out, turning to Emma, who would have retorted had Aoi not stepped in between them.
"Honestly, the two of you act like little girls sometimes." Aoi reprimanded them both. "Akira wants us to get a mission done, and we can only do that if we work together. Do I make myself clear?"
There was a moment of silence before either woman responded.
"You know, I have to be honest. I didn't expect you to be calling the shots." Emma admitted.
"Neither did I." Gekiryushi agreed, both women having a proud grin on their faces.
"A-A leader?" Aoi mildly blushed out of surprise upon figuring out what Emma and Gekiryushi meant by their comments. "I wouldn't call myself a leader yet. That would go to other people, like Yuhiro or Playmaker."
"Says the person who's able to keep stubborn people like us in line." Emma retorted, which made her and Gekiryushi laugh upon seeing Aoi blush once again.
"Let's just log into the network before this becomes more embarrassing for me..." Aoi sheepishly replied, with the other women nodding in agreement, even though there were humorous expressions on their faces.
Once all three women put their respective decks into their respective duel disks, they all said in unison, "Deck Set! Into the VRAINS!"
In LINK VRAINS...
Raguel sighed. "You have got to be kidding me," he muttered, looking at the barrier surrounding Alpha. Sure enough, it was caused by a large satellite tower, which was at Alpha's headquarters. Looking around the area, Raguel couldn't help but be disgusted by what he saw. While Alpha looking like Las Vegas was one thing, the fact it had to resemble some weird anime game was something else.
Taking out a small device that resembled a large pin, Raguel pricked the barrier, which caused it to ripple.
"How's progress on your end?" Raguel asked Roxy, placing a finger on his earpiece.
"Barrier's tough to crack." Roxy admitted. "Even with five hackers and you working away on the-."
PEW! PEW! PEW!
The next thing Raguel knew, three bolts of energy went straight towards the barrier, practically tearing it apart.
"What the..." Raguel turned around, looking for where those energy bolts came from. Within a few moments, he found Blood Shepherd on one of the nearby buildings, having fired them seconds later.
"Barrier down." Blood Shepherd said, jumping from building to building in the process. Seeing Raguel nearby, he jumped down to the building on his left, intent on confronting him. "Like a moth to a flame, you couldn't resist coming to Alpha to end the Turf War. That's the problem with you having a conscience, Raguel, as you won't be able to make the tough decisions. "
"At least I'm doing something right in stopping the Turf War." Raguel countered. "What do you want, cowboy? Did Zaizen send you to take Alpha down? I honestly doubt you're here to do that."
"Zaizen didn't send me, Raguel. I came by my own accord for a simple reason." Blood Shepherd replied, raising his right arm at him and charging it up. "Soulburner's real-life identity is Takeru Homura, yes?"
Raguel stiffened upon hearing Blood Shepherd's question. That... was clearly not good. "How... how do you know that? Slipstream-."
"You can never truly get rid of data, Raguel. You of all know people should know that." Blood Shepherd countered. "If you don't hand your Ignis over, I'll give SOL Technologies this information, and I can guarantee that it won't end well for your friend."
"That's impossible!" Takeru exclaimed over the comm.
"I got rid of Blood Shepherd's info on Takeru. I know it!" Arashi added over the comm.
"Raguel..." Herald said, emerging from his duel disk and turning to him. "You need to hand me over. Otherwise..."
Raguel, on the other hand, remained silent. He couldn't just give Herald up to a bounty hunter like Blood Shepherd. But if he didn't, then Takeru will be harassed by SOL Technologies to no end. He couldn't do that to his friend...
Wait! There was one other option! Although Raguel didn't like using it, he had no choice in the matter.
"No answer? Fine." Blood Shepherd's arm was fully charged up, ready to fire at Raguel. "Looks like the safeties are coming off." To his shock, Hercules/Alpha Mode appeared behind Raguel before jumping off the building and charging towards Blood Shepherd, which made him roll sidewards before firing a full-powered shot at his opponent. Unfortunately for him, Hercules/Alpha Mode was practically unharmed as he swung Nine Lives at Blood Shepherd, which sent him flying off the ground before landing on the floor.
Raguel then pressed a few buttons on his duel disk, which released a sphere of light-blue data that floated slightly above his right hand.
"My safeties are bigger." Raguel commented with a smirk, looking down at Blood Shepherd. "Oh, and in case you were wondering of leaking Soulburner's identity to the real world, I got some dirt on you that'll make you back down."
"Dirt? What do you mean by that?!" Blood Shepherd demanded, as he got back on his feet. He would have fired back had Raguel not continued speaking.
"Simple. What's in my hand is incriminating information on you, credit going to Ghost Girl of course." Raguel explained, the smirk still on his face. "If you leak Soulburner's identity to the world, I'll give this information to the authorities. Information that I believe contains a list of not only all your crimes, but all the people you injured on your hunts as well, Call it collateral damage, if you will. Imagine what would happen if your mother woke up and found out you became a criminal. She'd be heartbroken upon finding out, wouldn't you agree?"
Blood Shepherd snarled in pure fury. Raguel would dare so such a thing to him?! If it weren't for that threat, he'd kill him here and now! "Fine. I'll back down. But know that I won't be so cooperative the next time we meet." Blood Shepherd then jumped from building to building, entering the Alpha Branch in the process.
"I can't believe you made Blood Shepherd back down like that..." Herald commented with amazement. "Since when did you of all people act like that?"
"Like what exactly?" Raguel questioned back in confusion. Just when Herald was about to clarify what he meant, Blue Girl jumped down from her duel board above and landed on the building Raguel was on.
"There you are, Raguel." Blue Girl said, as Ghost Girl and SengokuQueen also jumped down from their respective duel boards before landing on the building Raguel was on. "We heard a commotion and..." She, along with Ghost Girl and SengokuQueen, gasped upon looking at Hercules/Alpha Mode, who snorted in response.
"Hercules/Alpha Mode, return." Raguel ordered, as Hercules/Alpha Mode turned into particles, which went into his duel disk. "Sorry about that. He was needed to make Blood Shepherd back off."
"Blood Shepherd?" SengokuQueen repeated. "What was that monster doing here?"
Raguel turned around as he looked outwards towards the Alpha Branch. "He tried to expose Soulburner's real-life identity to the world if I didn't hand Herald over to him. So I basically threatened to leak incriminating information about him to the authorities." He turned to Ghost Girl with a grin. "Credit goes to you and Roxy, of course."
"You and Blue Girl both surprised me today. What with her becoming a leader and you being mischievous..." Ghost Girl said, a proud look on her face.
"As much as I enjoy the commentary, you guys have a mission to complete, remember?" Roxy reminded Raguel out of annoyance.
"Oh, right. Sorry, Roxy." Raguel said, pressing a few buttons on his duel disk, which caused a pair of binoculars to appear before he grabbed them. "Blood Shepherd practically destroyed the barrier surrounding Alpha. This means we can sneak in."
"With the target being over there." SengokuQueen added, pointing to the Skyhook that was stationed in Alpha. "And just like before with the other branches, it's close to the main headquarters."
"I'm honestly not surprised that a douchebag like Saburo Inoue became Speckles." Blue Girl stated, looking down at the ground, where the quartet found a patrol of troops nearby.
"It makes sense. After all, Saburo was practically a douchebag with an inflated ego." Raguel replied. Having noticed an opportunity, Raguel put on his Cracker gauntlet before firing two shots of electricity at the nearby patrolling troops, which practically knocked them out. "Follow me." He, along with the girls, leapt down from the rooftop and landed on the ground before dragging the troops to the alleyway they were in.
Looking at the area, Raguel saw more troops patrolling the area. The troops' attire consisted of fashionable red suits, under which is a white shirt and a black tie, along with black gloves, shoes, and matching red sunglasses.
"Keep an eye out for these four individuals," the captain instructed the other troops, pulling out four pictures. One was of Raguel, the second was Blue Girl, the third was Ghost Girl, and the other was SengokuQueen.
"Yes sir!" all four troops said, saluting at the captain at the same time before continuing to patrol the area.
"Wanted posters? Of us?!" SengokuQueen quietly exclaimed. Pulling out a pair of boomerang-like swords, she aimed them before throwing each one at two of the nearby troops, knocking both of them out in the process. Moving quickly, SengokuQueen roped each troop using a digital hook, pulling them towards her and hiding both troops in a nearby alleyway.
"SengokuQueen! Wait up!" Ghost Girl quietly told her, as she, Blue Girl, and Raguel followed after her. After hiding in another alleyway, she turned to Raguel, a furious look on her face. "How the Hell are there wanted posters of us in the Black Market?!"
"Ace must have orchestrated the whole thing." Raguel quietly explained. "He may have put together footage of us killing Wyatt and blowing up Zeta to make us look like criminals."
"What?!" Blue Girl exclaimed, who also had a furious look on her face. "And you didn't take care of this prior?!"
"I just found out now. Give me a break." Raguel defended himself.
"He's been through a bit recently. I'd be careful if I were you." Herald added. Before he could say anymore, Raguel started moving, the three girls following after him. He fired two bursts of electricity at the next pair of moving troops, knocking the both of them out in the process. After dragging them to an area where they couldn't be found, the quartet kept moving forward and hid behind various barricades that were in front of the headquarters. There were also large crates nearby as well.
"What's the plan, Raguel? There's obviously spotlights nearby the large building." Blue Girl told Raguel.
"I'm well aware of that, Blue Girl." Raguel replied in an exasperated tone.
"Don't take your frustrations out on Blue Girl or anyone else!" Roxy shouted through the earpiece, which practically made Raguel wince out of surprise.
"Sorry, Blue Girl. Like Herald said, I've been a bit recently." Raguel apologized.
"My camouflage program should help us get past security, Raguel." Ghost Girl offered.
"It's better than sniping each of these useless troops." SengokuQueen pointed out to Raguel, agreeing with what Ghost Girl said for once.
Raguel honestly didn't want to use Ghost Girl's camouflage program again, as last time, it malfunctioned on purpose. That was because Ghost Girl was hired by someone else to destroy Landios' main headquarters and get its data. While Raguel didn't know who hired her to do that, he did know that it led to a falling out between Ghost Girl and Roxy.
But that was in the past. He had to put aside his grievances for the sake of the mission. "Fine," Raguel said to Ghost Girl. "Do it." Hearing Raguel's answer, Ghost Girl pressed a few buttons on her duel disk, which turned the quartet invisible.
"We need to stick together. Otherwise, the range will shorten out the program and deactivate it." Ghost Girl warned the others, who grouped up and moved forward. Noticing a nearby kiosk, Ghost Girl quietly went over and grabbed a patrolling troop's key card, placing it at the digital screen afterwards. The kiosk screen turned from blue to green, which opened the gates to the main headquarters.
"At least Blood Shepherd didn't crash the party like last time." SengokuQueen commented, running through the main area towards the door, the patrolling troops not noticing the quartet.
"If it weren't for him, you guys wouldn't be on the kill list right now. Sorry, everyone. That's on me." Raguel apologized.
"You couldn't have known that would happen, Raguel. We aren't perfect." Blue Girl assured him.
"Raguel! On your two o clock!" Kusanagi warned him, with Raguel noticing a cannon attached to a wall suddenly fire an electrical net at him.
"Get down!" Raguel told the others, the quartet rolling out of the way. Unfortunately, more cannons appeared from the walls that fired electrical nets at the quartet, which would have nearly hit them had Herald not put up his shields.
The next thing they knew, a man wearing red business attire with rings attached to his ears and a short, black-colored Caesar haircut appeared in front of the quartet. He snapped his fingers, which turned the lights on and off before the camouflage program dissipated.
"No! This can't be! I improved the program this time!" Ghost Girl panicked, as giant poker cards appeared out of nowhere before beginning to surround her, Blue Girl, SengokuQueen, and Raguel.
Seeing the giant cards, SengokuQueen attempted to get rid of them using her sword... which didn't do a thing. Raguel tried blasting them using his Cracker gauntlet, with Blue Girl using her energy whip and Ghost Girl used her fire flies as well. Unfortunately, not a single one of those attacks didn't do the trick either.
"What the-!" SengokuQueen began. But before she could continue speaking, the cards released a wave of energy that attached itself to her. It also did the same thing to Ghost Girl as well.
Acting quickly, Raguel damaged one of the cards enough to push Blue Girl out of the trap, allowing himself to get caught in the process.
"Raguel! Ghost Girl! SengokuQueen!" Blue Girl cried out, as the man snapped his fingers a second time, which moved the cards out of the area and towards one of the nearby doors. She turned to the man and glared at him as she stood up on her feet. "Who are you?"
"Call me Enzo," the man introduced himself. "I originally intended to duel Raguel, but I'll polish my skills against the top Charisma Duelist instead."
"Tell me where my friends are!" Blue Girl demanded before activating her duel disk.
"Defeat me, and I'll give you their location. That I will guarantee." Enzo promised, also activating his own duel disk, intent on getting straight to the main event.
"It's time to duel!" Blue Girl and Enzo declared in unison.
Blue Girl: 4000 LP
Enzo: 4000 LP
"Unlike the savages out there, I'm a gentlemen. As such, I'll let you decide whether to go first or second." Enzo stated.
"In that case, I'm going first right away." Blue Girl decided. "My turn! I summon Trickstar Lilybell from my hand." A young woman wearing a short-pink dress and carrying a massive bell in her hand appeared on Blue Girl's field. She also had long pink hair combed in two ponytails as well.
Trickstar Lilybell ATK: 800 DEF: 2000 LV: 2
"Next, I activate the effect of Trickstar Lycoris from my hand. By revealing her from my hand, I can return any 'Trickstar' monster to my hand to Special Summon her to the field! I choose to return Lilybell to my hand and Special Summon Lycoris in her place." Lilybell vanished in particles and was replaced by a young woman wearing a red and black dress while holding a golden sword in her hand.
Trickstar Lycoris ATK: 1600 DEF: 1200 LV: 3
"Lilybell's effect!" Blue Girl continued. "Since she was added to my hand except by drawing her, I can Special Summon her to my field." For a second time, Lilybell appeared on Blue Girl's field.
Trickstar Lilybell ATK: 800 DEF: 2000 LV: 2
"Summoning the same monster you returned to your hand in a single turn without drawbacks? Quite impressive, if you ask me." Enzo complimented Blue Girl.
"If you think that's impressive, then you'll be shocked at my next few moves. Like this!" Blue Girl raised her right arm high into the air in front of her. "Appear! The circuit of dreams and hope!" A Link Portal appeared in the sky above Blue Girl. "The summoning conditions are one Level 2 or lower 'Trickstar' monster! I'll set Trickstar Lilybell in the Link Markers!" Lilybell entered the bottom arrowhead, turning it red.
"Link Summon! Appear! Link 1! Trickstar Bloom!" A fair-skinned young woman, wearing a green and yellow dress, a little brown witch-hat, two fairy wings, and holding a broom decorated with a flower on top appeared on Blue Girl's field.
Trickstar Bloom ATK: 100 LINK-1 ⬇️
"Bloom's effect! She lets you draw a card when she's Link Summoned." Blue Girl added, as Enzo drew the top card of his deck. "Lycoris's second effect! Each time you add a card to your hand, you take 200 points of damage!" Lycoris pointed her sword at Enzo and fired a golden beam at him, who didn't flinch as his life points slightly dropped.
Enzo: 4000 – 200 = 3800 LP
"Appear, for a second time! The circuit of dreams and hope!" A second Link Portal appeared above Blue Girl. "The summoning conditions are two 'Trickstar' monsters. I'll set the Link 1 Trickstar Bloom and Lycoris into the Link Markers!" Bloom went into the bottom-left arrowhead, while Lilybell went into the bottom-right arrowhead, turning both of them red.
"Link Summon! Appear! Link 2! Trickstar Holly Angel!" A woman with pale blonde hair and blue eyes appeared on Blue Girl's field in the right Extra Monster Zone. She wore an elaborate blue, white, and purple dress and carried a flail.
Trickstar Holly Angel ATK: 2000 LINK-2 ↙️↘️
"I Set two cards face-down and end my turn." Blue Girl concluded.
"For the top Charisma duelist, I expected nothing less of you." Enzo commented.
"You do realize flattery won't help you win the duel, right?" Blue Girl pointed out.
"I simply believe in giving praise whenever I can. Like I said before, I am a gentleman." Enzo countered. "Anyhow, let's continue, shall we? My turn! I draw!" He drew the top card of his deck. "I summon Imperial Bower from my hand." Two jokers carrying different colored spears appeared on Enzo's field. The first joker's clothing was colored black, with silver armor, a jester's hat and shoes. The second joker's clothing was colored red, with violet armor, a jester's hat and shoes.
Imperial Bower ATK: 1500 DEF: 1500 LV: 4
"Imperial Bower's effect! Since I control no monsters, I can tribute this card and take two monsters among 'Queen's Knight', 'King's Knight', and/or 'Jack's Knight' from my deck, and either add them to my hand or Special Summon them to my field. I add 'King's Knight' and 'Queen's Knight' from my deck to my hand." After Imperial Bower turned into particles, two cards popped out of Enzo's deck, which he took and added to his hand. "I activate the Spell card, Joker's Straight. By discarding one card from my hand, I can Special Summon a copy of 'Queen's Knight' from my deck, or add one 'King's Knight' or 'Jack's Knight' from my deck to my hand. I discard Royal Straight Slasher from my hand to Special Summon Queen's Knight from my deck to my field!" After Enzo sent a card from his hand to his Graveyard, a woman with long, blond hair that wore red armor appeared on his field. She also wore a tall, red helmet with silver outlines at the top. In her right hand, she carried a shield. As for her left hand, she carried a sword.
Queen's Knight ATK: 1500 DEF: 1600 LV: 4
"Queen's Knight, King's Knight, and Jack's Knight. Hang on a minute!" Blue Girl said, her eyes widening in realization. "Those cards belonged to Yugi Muto, the King of Games! How did you get your hands on them? Did you steal them?"
"I did not steal them. I merely bought a copy of the deck online. You have my word." Enzo assured her. "Joker Straight's second effect! Immediately after this effect resolves, I'm allowed to Normal Summon one monster from my hand. I summon King's Knight from my hand." A man with dark, blond hair who wore bronze-colored armor appeared on his field. Attached to his back was a long, blue cape. He had a small, bronze-colored helmet on his head as well. In his right hand, he carried a sword. As for his left hand, he carried a shield.
King's Knight ATK: 1600 DEF: 1400 LV: 4
"King's Knight's effect!" Enzo continued. "When he's Normal Summoned and 'Queen's Knight' is on my field, I can Special Summon a copy of 'Jack's Knight' from my deck. Come to me, Jack's Knight!" A card popped out of Enzo's deck, which he took and placed on his duel disk. Once that was done, a dark-skinned man with shoulder-length blond hair who wore dark-blue armor appeared on Enzo's field. Over his armor was silver outlines, which had black spikes on it. On top of his head was a crown-styled helmet. In his right hand, he carried a sword. As for his left hand, he carried a shield.
Jack's Knight ATK: 1900 DEF: 1600 LV: 5
Great. He got all three legendary monsters on the field. Still, Holly Angel is the strongest monster on my field. She can fight back against them, Blue Girl assured herself in her mind.
"I can see the look of confidence on your face Blue Girl, but let me ask you this. How will you react when the unexpected happens?" Enzo mulled over, which made Blue Girl pay attention to him. "Let's find out! I will now deal in my circuit!" A Link Portal appeared above him. "The summoning conditions are three Warrior monsters with different names. I'll set Queen's Knight, King's Knight, and Jack's Knight into the Link Markers!" Queen's Knight went into the top arrowhead, King's Knight went into the bottom-left arrowhead, and Jack's Knight went into the bottom-left arrowhead.
"Raise my enemy's stakes with your overwhelming dominance!" Enzo chanted. "Link Summon! Arise from your throne! Link 3! Arcana Extra Joker!" A tall, male warrior who wore light-blue armor with golden outlines appeared on Enzo's field in the right Extra Monster Zone. He had shoulder-length blond hair, with the back of his hair being ruffled, dark-blue hair. On his head was a knight's cap, which had a red jewel on it. In his right hand, he carried a large sword. As for his left hand, he carried a shield.
Arcana Extra Joker ATK: 2800 LINK-3 ↙️️↘️
"Battle!" Enzo thrusted out his right hand. "Arcana Extra Joker attacks Trickstar Holly Angel! Royal Court's Flush!" Arcana Extra Joker charged forward towards Holly Angel, intent on eliminating her with his sword.
"Sorry, but you won't be destroying my monster that easily! Continuous-Trap card, activate! Trickstar Perennial!" Blue Girl interjected. "This card lets me target one 'Trickstar' Link monster I control, and by doing so, I can either send one monster it points to or this card to my Graveyard to prevent its destruction this turn. I send Perennial itself to protect Holly Angel!" A vine-like shield appeared in front of Holly Angel, which protected her from the sword attack unleashed by Arcana Extra Joker. Although Holly Angel was unharmed, Blue Girl winced as her life points dropped.
Blue Girl: 4000 – 800 = 3200 LP
"In addition, I activate my Trap card, Trickstar Shatter! If a 'Trickstar' monster I control battled this turn, I can target one monster you control and-!"
"You may have protected Holly Angel, but I'm afraid that's all you can do, my dear. I activate Arcana Extra Joker's effect!" Enzo interjected. "Once per turn, when a Spell or Trap card, or monster effect is activated that targets this face-up card on the field or a monster he points to, I can discard the same type of card to negate the activation. I discard the Trap card Court of Cards to negate the activation of the Trap card Trickstar Scatter!" Trickstar Scatter basically turned into particles after Enzo sent a card from his hand to his Graveyard. "I Set one card face-down and end my turn. As it's my End Phase, Joker's Straight's second effect activates. I can target one Light Warrior monster in my Graveyard and shuffle it into my deck to add this card back to my hand. I target and shuffle Queen's Knight back into my deck!" A card popped out of Enzo's Graveyard, which he took and shuffled into his deck. Another card then popped out of his Graveyard, which Enzo took and added to his hand.
"Can I ask you a question?" Blue Girl asked.
"Oh? A question? Alright. What is it you seek to know?" Enzo replied.
"Why are you working with Ace? Are you not aware of what he's doing?"
Enzo sighed. "Unfortunately, I am indeed aware of what he's doing. You see, a long time ago, my family ruled over the Alpha Branch. However, Ace's family, the Akutagawa's, intended to take control of it by force. To our surprise, instead of finishing us off, they welcomed us in to serve them and showed us mercy. Ace's parents ruled over the Alpha Branch with kindness and compassion, but after Ace took over, he turned it upside down and undid all the work his parents did." He narrowed his eyes. "After Ace was arrested, I tried to make things right in his place, but he made things worse again upon his return. Due to my family pledging to serve the Akutagawas, I can't rebel against him, no matter how much I wanted to. There's also another reason why I can't betray Ace."
"Another reason?" Blue Girl repeated. "What else could stop you from doing the right thing? To report Ace to the authorities and stop his madness?"
"Aside from the oath my family made to his family, Ace also has powerful allies. One of which is tragically sending people to the Den City Hospital." Enzo sadly told Blue Girl, as he pressed a few buttons on his duel disk. "I believe the monster looked like this." A digital screen popped out of his duel disk, which showed a picture of Malf dueling against Raguel.
Blue Girl's eyes widened in horror upon looking at that picture. The day after Raguel's duel against Malf, he sent a letter to Akira that contained a warning about Malf and what he's doing in the network. When Akira passed the information onto her, she was practically scared upon hearing it. The fact that a monster like Malf nearly defeated Raguel in their duel, as well as sent people to the Den City Hospital was definitely a start. Who knows what a monster like Malf can do? "It's not too late to do what's right. If you tell the authorities everything you know, they'll protect you."
"I wish I could, but I must retain my oath and protect Ace. I do hope you understand." Enzo stated.
In a way, Blue Girl understood, as Akira swore to protect her after their parents died. But after recent events, Akira no longer saw Blue Girl as a little girl. He saw her as someone who can not only defend herself, but also someone who matured as well. And that growth was still going too. "If I can't convince you with my words, then I'll convince you with my dueling. My turn! I draw!" Blue Girl drew the top card of her deck. "I activate the Spell card, Terraforming. This card lets me add one Field Spell card from my deck to my hand." A card popped out of Blue Girl's deck, which she took and added to her hand. "I activate the Field Spell card, Trickstar Live Stage. When this card is activated, I can add one 'Trickstar' monster from my Graveyard to my hand. I add Lilybell back to my hand." A card popped out of Blue Girls' Graveyard, which she took and added to her hand. "Lilybell's effect now activates! Since she was added to my hand, except by drawing her, I can Special Summon her from my hand to my field!" For a second time, Lilybell appeared on Blue Girl's field, only in the Main Monster Zone Holly Angel pointed to.
Trickstar Lilybell ATK: 800 DEF: 2000 LV: 2
"Holly Angel's effects now activate!" Blue Girl stated. "First, each time a 'Trickstar' monster is Normal or Special Summoned to a Main Monster Zone she points to, you take 200 points of damage." Holly Angel swung out her flail towards Enzo, which made him take a step back as he winced in slight pain.
Enzo: 3800 – 200 = 3600 LP
"Second, Holly Angel gains attack points equal to the damage you take. Holly Blessing!" Holly Angel was surrounded in a golden aura as she powered up.
Trickstar Holly Angel ATK: 2000 + 200 = 2200
"I now activate the second effect of Live Stage." Blue Girl continued. "Since you control a Set Spell or Trap card in your Spell & Trap card zone, I can Special Summon a 'Trickstar' token to my field!" Soon, a third heart with wings and a tail appeared on Blue Girl's field in defense position.
Trickstar Token ATK: 0 DEF: 0 LV: 1
"But why stop there, when I can activate Live Stage's third effect! Once per turn, I can target one Trickstar Link monster I control, and Special Summon one 'Trickstar' token to my field in defense position, as long as its in a Main Monster Zone my Trickstar Link monster points to. I target Holly Angel!" Another heart with wings and a tail appeared on Blue Girl's field in defense position, only in the other Main Monster Zone Holly Angel pointed to.
Trickstar Token ATK: 0 DEF: 0 LV: 1
"Holly Angel's second and third effects activate once again!" Blue Girl added, as Holly Angel swung out her flail at Enzo, who didn't flinch this time as his life points dropped. Once that was done, Holly Angel was surrounded in a golden aura that powered her up.
Enzo: 3600 – 200 = 3400 LP
Trickstar Holly Angel ATK: 2200 + 200 = 2400
"Appear! The circuit of dreams and hope!" A Link Portal appeared above Blue Girl. "The summoning conditions are two Level 3 or lower 'Trickstar' monsters. I'll set both 'Trickstar' tokens into the Link Markers!" One Trickstar token went into the bottom-left arrowhead, while the other went into the bottom arrowhead, which both turned red.
"Link Summon! Appear! Link 2! Trickstar Divaridis!" A woman with long blond hair and wearing an elegant green and white dress appeared on Blue Girl's field in one of the Main Monster Zones Holly Angel pointed to. In her right hand, she carried a long microphone.
Trickstar Divaridis ATK: 1800 LINK-2↙️️
"The effect of Divaridis, as well as Holly Angel's effects now activate!" Blue Girl said. "First, when Divaridis is Special Summoned, you take 200 points of damage."
"200 points of damage upon being Special Summoned? Just like that?" Enzo repeated. Now that was unexpected, that's for sure. Divaridis sung into her microphone, firing a blast of energy at Enzo that decreased his life points.
Enzo: 3400 – 200 = 3200 LP
"Second, just like before, Holly Angel inflicts 200 points of damage each time a 'Trickstar' monster is Normal or Special Summoned to a Main Monster Zone she points to. As for the third effect, that is activated twice!" Holly Angel swung out her flail towards Enzo for a third time, much to his annoyance as he just stood there and take the hit. Holly Angel was then surrounded in a golden aura that powered her up.
Enzo: 3200 – 200 = 3000 LP
Trickstar Holly Angel ATK: 2400 + 200 + 200 = 2800
The effect damage may be little, but they most certainly add up. I must be on my guard, for the duel can go either way, Enzo thought.
"I activate the Equip Spell card, Cestus of Dagla, and equip it onto Holly Angel." Blue Girl stated, as Holly Angel's flail was replaced with two, curved hand blades, which she grabbed onto. "The equipped monster gains 500 attack points, and if the equipped monster inflicts battle damage, I gain life points equal to the damage inflicted." Holly Angel was then surrounded in an aura that increased her attack points further.
Trickstar Holly Angel ATK: 2800 + 500 = 3300
Enzo narrowed his eyes. Effect damage and life point increases... that was rather intriguing for Blue Girl to do. Usually, she only focused on effect damage and strong monsters, but adding a card that boosted her life points was different.
"Battle!" Blue Girl thrusted her right hand out. "Trickstar Holly Angel attacks Arcana Extra Joker!" Holly Angel charged forward and slashed Arcana Extra Joker twice, which turned him into particles as Enzo shielded himself from the following explosion using his right arm.
Enzo: 3000 – 500 = 2500 LP
"And since I inflicted 500 points of damage, I gain 500 life points!" Blue Girl announced, a golden aura surrounding her body as her life points increased.
Blue Girl: 3200 + 500 = 3700 LP
"Not smart, Blue Girl. For thanks to you, I can do this." Enzo replied. "Arcana Extra Joker's second effect! When he's destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, I can Special Summon one Level 4 Warrior Normal monster from my deck, and then add one Level 4 Warrior monster from my deck to my hand. I Special Summon the first copy of Queen's Knight from my deck, and add a second copy of King's Knight from my deck to my hand!" Two cards popped out of his deck, with Enzo taking one card and placing it on his field, while he took the other card and added it to his hand. After doing that, Queen's Knight reappeared on his field.
Queen's Knight ATK: 1500 DEF: 1600 LV: 4
"In addition, I activate the Trap card, Joker's Wild! During the Main Phase or Battle Phase, I can send one card that lists 'Queen's Knight', 'King's Knight', and 'Jack's Knight' from my deck to my Graveyard. By doing so, I can change this effect to that card's effect upon activation. I send Face Card Fusion from my deck to my Graveyard!" A card popped out of Enzo's deck, which he took and sent to his Graveyard. "And now Face Card Fusion's effect activates in place of Joker Wild's effect! This card lets me Fusion Summon one Light Warrior monster from my Extra Deck to my field by using monsters from my hand or field as Fusion Materials. If I control 'Queen's Knight', 'King's Knight', or 'Jack's Knight', I can use one monster from my deck as Fusion Material as well!"
"A Fusion Summon using monsters from the deck as well?" Blue Girl repeated, slightly surprised. While most cards that allowed the user to Fusion Summon required them to use monsters from the hand or field as Fusion Material, there were different kinds of cards that gave the user more flexibility in Fusion Summoning. Those cards also came with other effects as well that the user can use later on in the duel.
"Prepare yourself, Blue Girl! I use Queen's Knight on my field, King's Knight in my hand, and Jack's Knight in my deck as Fusion Materials!" Enzo declared, as silhouettes of King's Knight and Jack's Knight appeared on his field beside Queen's Knight. The three of them disintegrated into red, blue, and green particles respectively before swirling into a vortex. Afterwards, three tornadoes of energy shot upwards and merged to form a white and yellow whirlwind.
"Defender of the imperial throne! Rise and eradicate my enemies!" Enzo chanted. "Fusion Summon! Appear, Level 9! Arcana Knight Joker!" A warrior with long, dark-purple hair who wore armor all over his body appeared on Enzo's field in the right Extra Monster Zone. His armor was coloured black, white, and gold, with the two largest pieces being on his shoulders. On the top of his head was a large, knight's helmet with no visor. He also wore a black skirt below his waist, along with jester-like shoes. In his right hand, he carried a large sword, while a shield was strapped to his left arm.

Great. This guy Fusion Summoning prevented me from simply attacking directly with my other monsters and winning the duel, Blue Girl thought in frustration. Still, she couldn't give up just because of a hurdle in front of her. Considering the circumstances, Blue Girl might as well do what she can to inflict damage, as she can always finish Enzo off on her next turn. "The battle still continues! Trickstar Lilybell attacks you directly!"
"Directly?" Enzo repeated out of confusion.
"Lilybell's effect lets her attack you directly." Blue Girl explained. "Get him, Lilybell!" Lilybell charged forward and smacked Enzo with her bell, which made him take a step back in the process.
Enzo: 2500 – 700 = 1800 LP
"Lilybell's effect! As she inflicted battle damage, I can add one 'Trickstar' monster from my Graveyard to my hand. I add Lycoris back to my hand!" A card popped out of Blue Girl's deck, which she took and added to her hand. If I leave Lilybell and Divaridis out on my field, Enzo will most likely attack them this turn. As such, I'll have to do this, Blue Girl thought. "Appear! The circuit of dreams and hope!" A Link Portal appeared above her. "The summoning conditions are two or more Fairy monsters. I'll set the Link 2 Trickstar Divaridis and Lilybell into the Link Markers!" Divaridis went into the left and right arrowheads, while Lilybell went into the top arrowhead.
"Link Summon! Appear! Link 3! Trickstar Foxglove Witch!" A green haired woman in a pink dress and hat appeared on Blue Girl's field in one of the Main Monster Zones Holly Angel pointed to. In her right hand, she wielded a pink wand.
Trickstar Foxglove Witch ATK: 2200 LINK-3️️️
"The effect of Foxglove Witch, as well as Holly Angel's effects now activate!" Blue Girl added. "First, when she is Special Summoned, you take 200 points of damage for each card you control. Currently, you only have Arcana Knight Joker on your field, which means you take 200 points of damage!" Foxglove Witch fired a pink blast of energy at Enzo, which made him slightly wince.
Enzo: 1800 – 200 = 1600 LP
"Second, just like last time, Holly Angel inflicts 200 points of damage each time a 'Trickstar' monster is Normal or Special Summoned to a Main Monster Zone she points to. As for the third effect, that is activated twice!" Holly Angel slashed Enzo using the Cestus of Dagla, which made him take a step back out of surprise. Holly Angel was then surrounded in a golden aura that powered her up.
Enzo: 1600 – 200 = 1400 LP
Trickstar Holly Angel ATK: 3300 + 200 = 3500
"I end my turn, which means Holly Angel's effect ends, and her attack points returned to their original amount." Blue Girl concluded, as Holly Angel's attack points returned to normal.
Trickstar Holly Angel ATK: 3500 – 1000 = 2500
Enzo clapped politely. "Very well played, Blue Girl. Not only did you reduce my life points by 2000, you also managed to solidify both your offense and defense through a combination of cards. You should be proud by how much you've grown as a duelist."
"You're right. I have grown as a duelist." Blue Girl agreed. "A long time ago, I dueled just to show my brother that I can handle myself. But after meeting people like Raguel and Playmaker, I managed to find a different reason for fighting."
"Oh?" Enzo raised an eyebrow out of curiosity. "And what might that reason be?"
"Simple. To make sure I can keep the people I care about safe." Blue Girl answered. "Just as you fight to protect Ace, I fight to make sure no one hurts my friends or family. And in the process, I made friends. Friends I'll fight with towards a better tomorrow. That's why I can't give up, as they're counting on me to win."
Enzo smiled upon hearing this. "You have incredible spirit, Blue Girl. For that, I praise you. Still, there's plenty of duel left, and I'm intrigued by how you'll get past my deck's combos. My turn! I draw!" He drew the top card of his deck. "I activate the Spell card, Card of Sanctity. This card lets the both of us draw cards until we each have six cards in our respective hands." Enzo drew the top two cards of his deck, while Blue Girl drew the top five cards of her deck. "I activate the effect of Joker's Knight from my hand. By sending one copy of 'Queen's Knight', 'King's Knight', or 'Jack's Knight' from my deck to my Graveyard, I can Special Summon this card from my hand and treat its name as the sent monster's name until the End Phase. I send a third copy of Jack's Knight from my deck to my Graveyard and Special Summon this card from my hand." A joker whose attire consisted of red and purple-coloured jester clothing appeared on Enzo's field. He wore a face mask, and had a cape attached to his back. In his right hand, he carried a sword. In his left hand, he carried a circular shield.

"Pay attention, Blue Girl. The monster I have in my hand can normally be Tribute Summoned by tributing two monsters on my field. However, I can also Special Summon this monster by sending one copy each of 'Queen's Knight', 'King's Knight', and 'Jack's Knight' from my hand and/or face-up on my field."
"What?!" Blue Girl exclaimed. The fact that Enzo can Special Summon a monster from his hand just by sending cards from his field and hand was quite surprising indeed.
"I send Queen's Knight and King's Knight from my hand, as well as Joker's Knight, who's name is treated as Jack's Knight on my field to Special Summon Arcana Triumph Joker from my hand!" Two silhouettes of Queen's Knight and King's Knight appeared beside Joker's Knight. After all three turned into particles, a female warrior with long, blond hair appeared on Enzo's field. She wore red armor with golden outlines, as well as a long, red helmet that had a jewel and a strand of hair on it. In her right hand, she carried a shield. In her left hand, she carried a sword.

"Arcana Triumph Joker's effect now activates! She gains attack points equal to the number of cards in our hands times 500!"
"Seriously?!" Blue Girl's eyes widened in surprise. A monster that gained attack points equal to the number of cards in their owners hands... this was going to be a huge hurdle to get across.
"I currently have three cards in my hand." Enzo announced. "How many cards do you have in your hand, Blue Girl? Six, I presume?"
"Yes." Blue Girl reluctantly confirmed.
"That means Arcana Triumph Joker gains a total of 4500 attack points since there's a total of nine cards in our hands!" Arcana Triumph Joker was surrounded in a red aura, which increased her attack points.
Arcana Triumph Joker ATK: ? + (500 X 9) = 4500
"I activate the Spell card, The Warrior Returning Alive. This card lets me target one Warrior monster from my Graveyard and add it to my hand. I target and add King's Knight from my Graveyard to my hand." Enzo continued, as a card popped up from his Graveyard, which he took and added to his hand. "Blue Girl. Let's see if you can overcome this. I activate Arcana Triumph Joker's second effect. By discarding a card from my hand to my Graveyard, I can destroy all face-up cards you control with the same type as the discarded card!"
"Tch!" Blue Girl slightly grit his teeth. With the card Enzo just added to his hand, she knew what he'd do next.
"I discard King's Knight from my hand, and destroy all your monsters!" After Enzo sent a card from his hand to his Graveyard, Arcana Triumph Joker swiped her sword in the air, which released a wave of energy that hit both Holly Angel and Foxglove Witch, destroying them both in the process. "As there's one less card in my hand, Arcana Triumph Joker loses 500 attack points." A red aura surrounded Arcana Triumph Joker, which slightly decreased her strength.
Arcana Triumph Joker ATK: 4500 – 500 = 4000
"I activate Foxglove Witch's second effect!" Blue Girl countered. "When she's destroyed by battle or card effect, I can Special Summon one Link 2 or lower 'Trickstar' monster straight from my Extra Deck, as well as inflict 200 points of damage for every card you control! I Special Summon Trickstar Crimson Heart from my Extra Deck to my field!" A woman with long brunette hair appeared on Blue Girl's field in the right Extra Monster Zone. She wore a long, elegant red dress, as well as a red headband on her head. In her right hand, she carried a set of golden handcuffs.

"Regardless of what just happened, you still fought back and demonstrated true courage. I wish there were more duelists that had the same courage as you. Unfortunately, as much as I enjoyed this duel, I must end it now." Enzo declared. "Battle! Arcana Triumph Joker attacks Trickstar Crimson Heart! Triumphant Blade Slash!" Arcana Triumph Joker charged forward, intent on cutting Crimson Heart down to pieces.
"I activate the second effect of Trickstar Corobane from my hand!" Blue Girl interjected.
"A Hand Trap?" Enzo repeated out of surprise. That's one of the cards she drew with Card of Sanctity, he realized. I did not see this coming.
"That's right!" Blue Girl confirmed. "Since a 'Trickstar' monster I control is battling a monster you control, I can send discard this card from my hand to have it gain attack points equal to its original attack points until the end of the turn. And since there's one less card in my hand, Arcana Triumph Joker loses 500 attack points as well!" After Blue Girl sent Corobane from her hand to her Graveyard, Crimson Heart was surrounded in a red aura as she powered up. Arcana Triumph Joker was also surrounded in a red aura, which decreased her strength.
Trickstar Crimson Heart ATK: 2000 + 2000 = 4000
Arcana Triumph Joker ATK: 4000 – 500 = 3500
"Strike back, Crimson Heart!" Crimson Heart used her golden handcuffs to block Arcana Triumph Joker's sword strike, which pushed the latter back before the former kicked Arcana Triumph Joker, which turned her into particles as Enzo winced in the process.
Enzo: 1000 – 500 = 500 LP
"I Set one card face down and end my turn." Enzo concluded, knowing there was nothing else he can do at the moment. "As it's the end of my turn, the second effect of Joker's Knight activates. By targeting one other Light Warrior monster and shuffling it into my deck, I can add this card from my Graveyard back to my hand. I shuffle Jack's Knight back into my deck and add Joker's Knight back to my hand!" A card popped out of Enzo's deck, which he took and shuffled into his deck. Another card then popped out of his deck, which Enzo took and added to his hand. "In addition, since it's the end of my turn, Corobane's effect ends, and Crimson Heart's attack points return to normal." As if on cue, a red aura surrounded Crimson Heart, which decreased her attack points to their original amount.
Trickstar Crimson Heart ATK: 4000 – 2000 = 2000
"Until now, no one has been able to stop Arcana Triumph Joker. You should be proud of yourself, Blue Girl." Enzo smirked. "Still, I can assure you that something like that won't stop me from winning this duel." But if you do win, then hope in stopping Ace truly exists. This turn will determine that, he thought.
"We shall see." Blue Girl replied. "My turn! I draw!" She drew the top card of her deck. "I activate the Spell card, Trickstar Festival. This card lets me Special Summon two 'Trickstar' tokens to my field. However, the turn I activate this card, I can't Normal or Special Summon monsters, except 'Trickstar' monsters." Soon, two more hearts with wings and a tail appeared on Blue Girl's field in defense position.

Crimson Heart went into the top and bottom arrowheads, one of the Trickstar tokens went into the bottom-left arrowhead, and the other Trickstar token went into the top-right arrowhead.
"Link Summon! Appear! Link 4! Trickstar Bella Madonna!" A woman with long green hair and wearing a pink and purple dress appeared on Blue Girl's field in the right Extra Monster Zone. She swung the elaborate scythe in her hands, which produced a powerful gale and made everyone attending cover their faces.

"I activate Bella Madonna's effect." Blue Girl continued. "Once per turn, if she's pointing to no monsters, you take 200 points of damage for every-!"
"Not so fast! I activate the Counter-Trap card, Trap Board of Eraser!" Enzo interjected. "When a card effect that would inflict effect damage to me is activated, not only can I reduce that damage to zero, you must send one card from your hand to your Graveyard!"
"Say what?" Blue Girl said, as Bella Madonna fired a blast of energy from her scythe at Enzo, which disintegrated before it can hit him.
"You will have to do better than that to defeat me." Enzo told Blue Girl, a look of slight disappointment on his face. Using the same trick of effect damage over and over was not going to help in defeating Ace.
"I send Trickstar Candina from my hand to my Graveyard." Blue Girl decided, as she sent a card from her hand to her Graveyard afterwards. She originally intended to use Bella Madonna's effect to bring a swift end to the duel, but it looks like a change in tactics was required for her to defeat Enzo. "I summon Trickstar Lycoris from my hand once again." Lycoris reappeared on Blue Girl's field afterwards.

"Why would you summon a monster to one of the Main Monster Zones Bella Madonna points to?" Enzo inquired. "Doing so makes your monster a prime target for card effects."
"You're about to see in a minute, Enzo. Because I activate the Quick-Play Spell card, Trickstar Bouquet." Blue Girl replied. "This card lets me target one 'Trickstar' monster I control and one other face-up monster on my field. By returning the targeted 'Trickstar' monster to my hand, the other targeted monster gains attack points equal to the returned monster's original attack points until the end of my turn! I target Lycoris and Bella Madonna. The former returns to my hand, while the latter gains her 1600 attack points!" Lycoris turned into pink particles, which went into Bella Madonna as her strength increased.
Trickstar Bella Madonna ATK: 2800 + 1600 = 4400
"Ah. So that's why you did it..." Enzo realized. Very clever play, Blue Girl, he thought in his mind.
"Battle!" Blue Girl pointed her right index finger at Enzo's field. "Trickstar Bella Madonna attacks Arcana Knight Joker!"
"It seems I lost..." Enzo muttered, a smile on his face. He had no cards in his hand or field to sadly block the attack. Still, the fact that he lost meant one thing.
There was hope. Hope that Blue Girl and her allies can stop Ace in time to end the Turf War.
Before something catastrophic happens as a result.
"Scimitar Stream!" Blue girl declared, as Bella Madonna swung the elaborate scythe in her hands in front of her, which released a wave of energy at Arcana Knight Joker, who tried to block it using his shield. Unfortunately, it proved to be too much, as the energy broke his shield before turning into particles. Enzo winced before falling to the ground on one knee, his life points having dropped to zero.
Enzo: 500 – 600 = 0
"Well done, Blue Girl. You surpassed my expectations and have given me hope once again." Enzo praised Blue Girl, as she walked towards him.
"You and your family swore an oath to serve Ace's family, not just Ace himself." Blue Girl reminded Enzo. "Even if you don't like it, there's still a role you can play in helping us end the Turf War."
Enzo nodded, knowing what he must do at last. Whether Ace liked him in the end no longer mattered, considering what was going on due to the Turf War. As long as Enzo was able to finally cleanse the Akutagawa family name for the sins their son committed, it would be worth it in the end, regardless of the consequences. "Very well. Because I lost, I'll help you out." Pressing a few buttons on his duel disk, a digital card with his ID on it popped out, which he took and gave to Blue Girl. Once that was done, Enzo pressed a few buttons on his duel disk, which showed the wanted posters for a brief moment before they turned into particles.
"What's this?" Blue Girl asked, looking at the card.
"A wild card. You earned it. Could turn the tables." Enzo answered. "I eradicated the wanted posters across all the Black Market's servers. This way, the card in your hands can take you to your allies no matter where they are in Alpha without worry." He smiled. "Now, go. Stop Ace. Before he brings Hell to the network."
Blue Girl nodded. "Don't worry, Enzo. I will certainly do that. I'll also have Raguel put in a good word for you later on."
Enzo chuckled. "I would like that very much, my friend. Good luck." Pressing a button on his duel disk, he logged out of the network afterwards.
Tapping the center of Enzo's ID card, it turned into a giant one in front of her, which created a portal in the process.
"Don't worry, you guys. I'll be right there," Blue Girl muttered, running into the portal before the giant card turned into particles.
Elsewhere, at another area of the Alpha Branch...
Raguel, Ghost Girl, and SengokuQueen all panted, having taken down what looked like an army of giant card troops.
"These cards look like the ones from Alice in Wonderland." SengokuQueen commented.
"It honestly doesn't matter how many there are or what they look like, SengokuQueen." Ghost Girl pointed out. "We still need to get to the Skyhook and destroy it."
"No shit, Ghost Girl! I'm aware of that!" SengokuQueen replied. Unfortunately for the trio, more giant card troops started charging at them.
"You know what? Fuck it. I had enough of this!" Raguel said, as he attached a long gauntlet to his right arm that literally resembled Blood Shepherd's mechanical arm. "I caught the bounty!" Charging it up to max energy, Raguel fired it at the card troops, which practically incinerated all of them.
Seeing another giant card appear all of a sudden, the trio turned around, intent on getting rid of it.
"Don't fire, don't fire!" Blue Girl stated, emerging out of the giant card.
"Blue Girl! You're okay!" Ghost Girl said out of relief.
Blue Girl, who didn't say anything, looked around the area. "Looks like you guys were busy."
"Obviously." Raguel replied, with Blue Girl gasping out of shock upon seeing the gauntlet replica of Blood Shepherd's arm. "Sorry. I'll return it to my duel disk."
"It's still disturbing, if you ask me." Herald stated the obvious. "You guys think we're close to the Skyhook?"
"We are." Ghost Girl confirmed. "We just need to follow the directions on my map, and we'll be there in no time."
Unbeknownst to them, Speckles was watching the quartet through a camera at a command room.
"Sir," one of the troops said. "We need reinforcements. What are you... GAAAH!" At that moment, Speckles impaled the troop using the chained daggers attached to his wired stump, which logged out the troop afterwards.
"Crap, crap, crap!" Speckles panicked, immediately heading to the stairs and going down to the next floor. He then went to the nearby exit door before running outside, intent on heading over to the Skyhook. Thanks to his evasiveness, he was able to reach it there in time. "Good, good. I made it before the enemy did. All I need to do is turn it into a detonation device and-."
PEW! PEW! PEW!
Speckles jumped out of shock to avoid the blasts, and gasped upon seeing Blood Shepherd jump down behind him.
Thinking fast, Speckles launched the chained daggers attached to his wired stump at Blood Shepherd, which immediately wrapped themselves around his right arm before stabbing him in the skin. Or so Speckles thought, as the daggers disintegrated upon impact.
"If you want to prolong the inevitable so bad, I'll be more than happy to comply, little bug." Blood Shepherd said, firing a shot in the air that surrounded the both of them in a field of energy. Once that was done, he activated his duel disk. "I caught the bounty."
Elsewhere, at another area in the Alpha Branch...
Electrolyzer panted heavily, having defeated another of Balius' troops that were sent to assist Athaliah. If it weren't for them, he would have found Athaliah much earlier. And considering the building's structure, it was practically a maze for Electrolyzer to navigate. But for these troops to protect Athaliah meant one thing.
She was up to something not good at all. Whether it was conducting a rehash of Project: Apotheosis or not, Electrolyzer had to stop it. ASAP.
Running down the hall, Electrolyzer took a left turn before making a right, following the directions on his map. When he first logged into Alpha, he found that the place hampered down on programs that weren't approved by the branch. Luckily, Electrolyzer activated a secret program that made the servers think that his programs were similar to that of the other approved programs in Alpha.
Encountering another troop, he immediately armed himself with PSY-Framegear Alpha before firing an electrical blast at the troop, which knocked him out. Taking another right, Electrolyzer spotted more troops, which he easily took care of by firing electrical blasts at them. Finding a staircase nearby, he ran downstairs, knowing in his heart that he was close to his target.
Turning left, Electrolyzer eventually found a door, which he kicked down before continuing running. Unfortunately, the commotion made several troops aim their guns at him.
Quickly thinking, Electrolyzer armed himself with PSY-Framegear Beta and Delta, enabling him to not only evade the bullets fired, but also rapidly fire electrical blasts at the troops as he leapt high in the air before landing on the ground. She must be in there, Electrolyzer deduced, having noticed the gate when he eliminated the troops. Since there was a barrier practically blocking the gate, he pressed a few buttons on his duel disk, which released a purple-like sword that went straight towards the barrier, dissipating it in the process. I honestly owe you one for this, Jericho, Electrolyzer thought, prior to running towards the gate. Using PSY-Framegears Alpha and Delta, he tore the gate open before entering inside the laboratory.
A few left and rights later, as well as going downstairs a few times, Electrolyzer found it.
A place that basically consisted of a hybrid between a haunted house and a lab room. That was because there were bodies tied to the walls, blood on the ground, and body parts hanging from the ceiling.
And at the end of the room was Athaliah, who was humming to herself as she typed a program on her computer. Taking a piece of DNA, she scanned it before the program spat out a result, which she simply typed on the computer.
"Oh, Brion. I didn't expect you to come here." Athaliah said, turning to face him.
"You know that's a lie, Athaliah. Don't play dumb with me." Electrolyzer replied.
In response, Athaliah chuckled. "You're right, Brion. That was a lie. I actually did expect you to find me eventually."
"Obviously. After all, I intend to get revenge on you for your transgressions against me and the other victims!" Electrolyzer glared at Athaliah, wanting to get his point across.
"Revenge? Such a pointless goal, if you ask me. All I did was merely for the sake of science." Athaliah dismissed Electrolyzer's comment.
"Even if it meant hurting people?!" Electrolyzer demanded. "I can't believe my family actually trusted you a long time ago."
"Your brother, sister, and parents were fools. Especially you, Brion." Athaliah stated, a smile forming on her face.
Ignoring that comment, Electrolyzer pressed a few buttons on his duel disk, which released a purple wave of energy that surrounded the entire room. "This program is a rather special one my client gave me. Not only are you locked into dueling me, all the information you gathered is being seeped out of your systems and going to my client as I speak."
"WHAT?!" Athaliah gritted her teeth in fury. How dare Electrolyzer do such a thing, especially when her life was on the line! If she failed... no. Athaliah didn't want to think of what would happen should she fail the task he gave her.
Then again, this gave Athaliah one benefit, as she can duel Electrolyzer and put him down for good. To the point where she can turn him into his lab rat again. Regaining her composure, Athaliah said, "If I'm being honest, I expected you to put up a fight. As such, I'll be more than happy to duel you. Just so I can reduce you to the helpless human subject you once were a long time ago." She activated her duel disk.
Electrolyzer also activated his duel disk, a look of determination on his face. "That won't happen, Athaliah. Because I'll be the one who ends your evil ambitions once and for all!"
"Duel!" Athaliah and Electrolyzer shouted in unison.
Athaliah: 4000 LP
Electrolyzer: 4000 LP
"You may be a woman, but you're no lady at all. As such, I'm going first." Electrolyzer said, looking at his hand. Great. Just great. He had no PSY-Framegears in his hand, and the Field Spell card he needed wasn't in his hand. Still, he can make do with the cards he has right now. "I summon Psychic Tracker from my hand." A small white and green machine with yoyos attached to it appeared on Electrolyzer's field.
Psychic Tracker ATK: 1600 DEF: 600 LV: 3
"I activate the effect of Psychic Wheeleder from my hand. As I control a monster other than this card, I can Special Summon it to my field in defense position." A white robot enclosed in a sphere appeared in defense position on Electrolyzer's field.
Psychic Wheeleder ATK: 600 DEF: 0 LV: 3
"I tune the Level 3 Psychic Wheeleder to the Level 3 Psychic Tracker!" Electrolyzer declared, as a bolt of green lightning struck him, the world greying out and his two monsters disappearing into particles in the process. Two rings, which were both colored white, appeared before turning blue and merging. Six blue rings stacked in a tower appeared, a screen displaying "3 + 3" in front of them. The screen then changed to "6" as light surged through the rings.
"Warrior of the future! Upgrade yourself with new machinery, and bring my enemies to justice!" Electrolyzer chanted. "Synchro Summon! Appear, Level 6! Hyper Psychic Riser!" A male, humanoid monster in white armor with massive wheels instead of feet appeared on Electrolyzer's field in the right Extra Monster Zone.
Hyper Psychic Riser ATK: 2000 DEF: 600 LV: 6
"Oh? I didn't expect you to Synchro Summon on your first turn." Athaliah said in surprise. "Don't you usually set your field up for spamming Synchro Summons on the opponent's turn?"
"Usually, yes. But this time, I'm trying something new." Electrolyzer replied. "Like this! As I used Psychic Tracker to Synchro Summon, Hyper Psychic Riser gains 600 attack points!" A green aura surrounded Hyper Psychic Riser as his strength went up.
Hyper Psychic Riser ATK: 2000 + 600 = 2600
"There's more. While Hyper Psychic Riser's on the field, monsters who have less attack points than him can't attack, and monsters who have more attack points than him can't activate their effects!"
Athaliah narrowed her eyes in annoyance. That... was rather a troublesome effect. Still, with the right cards, she can get around it.
"I activate the Spell card, Card of Variation." Electrolyzer continued. "This card lets me draw two cards. However, I must send a card from my hand to my Graveyard at the end of the turn. Otherwise, I take 3000 points of damage." He then drew the top two cards of his deck.
"Just like back then, you always charged ahead without thinking of a plan, Brion." Athaliah stated, a smirk on her face. "Your desire for revenge will be the end of you by the time our duel reaches its conclusion."
"You shouldn't make such statements when the duel's begun, Athaliah. Otherwise, you'll regret it later on!" Electrolyzer warned her. "I Set two cards face-down and end my turn, and as my turn is over, I send PSY-Frame Driver from my hand to my Graveyard to avoid the 3000 life point penalty for activating Card of Variation." He took a card from his hand and sent it to his Graveyard afterwards.
"My turn! I draw!" Athaliah said, drawing the top card of her deck.
"Trap card, activate! Psychic Overload!" Electrolyzer immediately interrupted. "This card lets me target three Psychic monsters in my Graveyard and shuffle them into my deck. By doing so, I can draw two cards from the top of my deck. I shuffle Driver, Psychic Tracker, and Psychic Wheeler from my Graveyard into my deck!"
"Tch!" Athaliah grit her teeth as three cards popped out of Electrolyzer's deck, which he took and shuffled into his deck. Once that was done, he drew the top two cards of his deck.
"I also activate my other Trap card, Metaverse!" Electrolyzer added. "This card lets me take a Field Spell card from my deck and either activate it or add it to my hand. I obviously choose the former, and activate PSY-Frame Circuit from my deck!" Electrical waves of energy blasted out of the card and surrounded the duel field before dissipating momentarily.
It looks like the little prince thought ahead for once, Athaliah thought. Still, that won't stop me at all, she declared in his mind. "I activate the Field Spell card, Curse of the Shadow Prison. Every time a 'Shaddoll' monster is sent to the Graveyard by a card effect, I can place a Spellstone counter on it. And for every Spellstone counter, your monsters lose 100 attack points during your turn only." The entire Duel Field was then enveloped by a black puddle, with electricity cackling on it.
"The perfect setup for a demented laboratory..." Electrolyzer muttered, disgusted by his surroundings. It made sense, considering the vast amounts of data material and dead avatars lying around, as well as the tar pods nearby.
"From there, I activate the Quick-Play Spell card, Hand Destruction. The both of us must discard two cards and draw two new cards from the top of our decks." Both duelists discarded two cards before drawing two cards from the top of their respective decks. "The effects of Shaddoll Beast and Squamata, as well as Curse of the Shadow Prison activate. First, when Beast is sent to the Graveyard by a card effect, I can draw one card from the top of my deck." Athaliah drew the top card of her deck and added it to her hand.
"Second, when Squamata is sent to the Graveyard by a card effect, I can send one 'Shaddoll' card from my deck to my Graveyard. I send Dragon from my deck to my Graveyard." Athaliah said, as a card popped out of her deck, which she took and sent to her Graveyard. "Third, since two 'Shaddoll' monsters were sent to my Graveyard, I can place two Spellstone counters on this card." The black puddle glowed briefly moments later.
Curse of the Shadow Prison SSC: 0 + 2 = 2
"Fourth, when Dragon is sent to the Graveyard by a card effect, I can target one Spell or Trap card on the field and destroy it. I target and destroy your PSY-Frame Circuit!"
"What?" Electrolyzer exclaimed, as a silhouette of a purple-skinned dragon with bat-like wings and four legs, as well as brown fur on its head, appeared on Athaliah's field. It roared loudly, which turned PSY-Frame Circuit into particles.
"Last but not least, as another 'Shaddoll' monster was sent to my Graveyard by a card effect, I can place another Spellstone counter on Curse of the Shadow Prison!" Athaliah added, as the black puddle glowed momentarily for a second time.
Curse of the Shadow Prison SSC: 2 + 1 = 3
"I'll be honest when I say you activating your Field Spell card on my turn was unexpected. But..." Athaliah grinned. "...such a thing will not deter me from defeating you. I activate the Spell card, Shaddoll Fusion. This card lets me Fusion Summon a 'Shaddoll' Fusion monster from my Extra Deck, by using monsters in my hand or field as Fusion Material. However, if you control a monster Special Summoned from the Extra Deck, I can use monsters from my deck as well!"
"Tch!" Electrolyzer grit his teeth. Fusion Summoning from the deck was... not a good sign for him. Still, as long as he had Hyper Psychic Riser-.
"I also activate Curse of the Shadow Prison's second effect!" Athaliah continued. "If I Fusion Summon a 'Shaddoll' Fusion monster, I can remove three Spellstone counters from this card to use one face-up monster you control as one of the Fusion Materials!"
"WHAT?!" Electrolyzer exclaimed for a second time. This was... not good for him at all.
"I use Shaddoll Hedgehog from my deck, and your Hyper Psychic Riser as Fusion Materials!" The black puddle glowed momentarily before releasing three orbs of energy, which went into Hyper Psychic Riser and froze him in place.
Curse of the Shadow Prison SSC: 3 – 3 = 0
Then a silhouette of a small, purple creature with four legs jumped out of the black puddle and appeared on Athaliah's field. Its back had large spikes on it. In addition, each of the creature's feet had a purple string coming out of it. Hedgehog and Hyper Psychic Riser turned into red and blue particles of energy, which went into the black puddle below them instead of upwards.
"With these energies of darkness and light, the sinister Construct is finally born!" Athaliah chanted. "Fusion Summon! Behold! Level 8! El Shaddoll Construct!" A colossal being with the appearance of a nun erupted from the black puddle and appeared on Athaliah's field in the right Extra Monster Zone. The being's body and armor was mostly colored purple, with golden elements appearing all over. Thousands of purple strings were attached to its back, signifying its authority as the puppet ruler.
El Shaddoll Construct ATK: 2800 DEF: 2500 LV: 8
No. Not that monster, Electrolyzer thought, recognizing Construct. He had been brought to the room where Construct was a few times, where he was tortured by it multiple times before passing out. Why? To test someone's perseverance, to see how long they can handle pain and stress prior to reaching their limit.
Electrolyzer snapped himself out of his stupor, knowing that there was no point in letting the past haunt him. Not when a duel as important as this was happening. Not when the chance for revenge was within his grasp. "Hold it right there, Athaliah! I activate the effect of PSY-Framegear Alpha from my hand. If I control no monsters and you Normal or Special Summon a monster, I can Special Summon this card and one copy of 'PSY-Frame Driver' from my hand, deck, or Graveyard."
"You little twerp!" Athaliah said, gritting her teeth in annoyance.
"Now, come! PSY-Framegear Alpha from my hand and PSY-Frame Driver from my deck!" Two monsters then immediately appeared on Electrolyzer's field in defense position.
The first monster was a silver and black exoskeleton with arms that had a helmet with green eyes, as well as spikes on the sides, arms, and knuckles. Its chest portion was connected to the harness through wires, with a reactor core in the middle. At the back was a series of multi-layered belts, which was shaped like a spine.
The second monster was a male, humanoid monster wearing a black and white suit that had electricity emitting from his wrists and head.
PSY-Framegear Alpha ATK: 500 DEF: 0 LV: 1
PSY-Frame Driver ATK: 2500 DEF: 0 LV: 6
"Alpha's second effect also lets me add one 'PSY-Frame' card from my deck to my hand with a different name. I add PSY-Framegear Epsilon from my deck to my hand." Electrolyzer continued, as he took a card from his deck and added it to his hand. It's likely that Athaliah will Set a Trap card at the end of her turn. By doing this, I should be prepared, he thought.
"If you want disciplining, I'll be more than happy to give it to you!" Athaliah snarled. "The effects of Construct, Hedgehog, and Curse of the Shadow Prison activates. First, since Construct was Special Summoned, I can send a 'Shaddoll' card from my deck to the Graveyard. I send Reshaddoll Wendi from my deck to my Graveyard!" A card popped out of Athaliah's deck, which she took and sent to her Graveyard. "Second, as Hedgehog was sent to the Graveyard by a card effect, I can add one 'Shaddoll' monster from my deck to my hand. I add Falco from my deck to my hand!" A second card popped out of Athaliah's deck, only she took that card and added it to her hand. "Third, as two 'Shaddoll' monsters were sent to my Graveyard, Curse of the Shadow Prison's effect activates once again!" The black puddle once again glowed briefly moments later.
Curse of the Shadow Prison SSC: 0 + 2 = 2
"Fourth, since Reshaddoll Wendi was sent to the Graveyard by a card effect, I can Special Summon one 'Shaddoll' monster from my deck to my field in face-down defense position. I Special Summon Nehshaddoll Genius from my deck to my field in face-down defense position! And as another 'Shaddoll' monster was sent to my Graveyard by a card effect, Curse of the Shadow Prison's effect activates once more!" A facedown card then appeared on Athaliah's field in defense position. As if on cue, the black puddle glowed briefly moments later.
Curse of the Shadow Prison SSC: 2 + 1 = 3
"I also activate the Spell card, Card Rotator." Athaliah stated. "By sending a card from my hand to my Graveyard, I can change the battle positions of all monsters you control. I send Shaddoll Zefracore from my hand to my Graveyard." Strings erupted from Card Rotator, which forced Alpha and Driver into attack position.
"Battle!" Athaliah pointed her right index finger forward at Electrolyzer's field. "El Shaddoll Construct attacks PSY-Framegear Alpha! Sinister Nightmare!" Construct pointed its finger at Alpha, causing the strings behind its back to go straight towards it and pierced it completely, which caused an explosion that sent Electrolyzer flying off the ground before he landed on his back.
Electrolyzer: 4000 – 2300 = 1700 LP
"I Set one card face-down and end my turn." Athaliah concluded with a laugh. "As it's the end of my turn, I believe the face-up monsters you Special Summoned with Alpha's effect are now banished, am I not correct Brion?"
"You are." Electrolyzer confirmed, as he tried to stand up on his feet, only to fall on one knee. Within moments, Driver turned into particles afterwards. "Tell me, Athaliah. Why did you betray us? We treated you like family, yet you spat in our faces in response."
"Betray you? I wouldn't call it like that." Athaliah grinned. "Instead, I would call it a pursuit towards something better. But since you insist, I'll tell you the first part of the story."
Flashback: Eleven years earlier, at a gala in Central Japan, during the evening...
"For me, I believe my journey towards enlightenment began that night during a gala, where I met him."
Athaliah was chatting with various people of her work in Central Japan, which mainly consisted of being the chief physician for the Miyahara Family. As a reward for her efforts, she became the leader on a health project for all of Central Japan's children, with the main goal being to increase healthiness in all forms for all of them.
This pleased Athaliah, as she always wanted to further look into human anatomy. To understand what made people tick, how they persevered through various trials, and figure out ways to improve them in the process.
"I must say, Athaliah. I'm impressed with how far you came, especially from a middle class family. Your parents must be so proud of your accomplishments," one male guest said.
"They most certainly are, as all my efforts helped them and the community in the end." Athaliah agreed with a smile.
"At the rate you're going, you can become the leader on a full team of doctors for Central Japan," a female guest hypothesized. "Just picture it. Athaliah Kuraishi. The head doctor of Central Japan. Improving everyone's health for the greater good. One man, woman, and child at a time."
Athaliah, upon hearing this, laughed. "Only time will tell where I end up, my friend. Only time will tell."
"And now, guests. Please give a round of applause for our guest speaker tonight. Dr. Kogami!" an announcer suddenly said, as everyone turned towards the stage before clapping loudly. Moments after he read over his cue cards, Dr. Kogami stepped forward on stage towards the microphone, ready to give his address to the crowd.
"Good evening, everyone. Can you hear me?" Dr. Kogami asked, with everyone giving him a thumbs up in confirmation. "Great. First, I want to thank Derek Miyahara and Isabelle Miyahara for hosting this event tonight, as well as allowing me to speak." The crowd gave their applause for a second time before he continued. "Tonight, I'm here to discuss my latest findings, as well as present a research experiment. One that, if all goes well, will change mankind for the better." He pressed a button towards the presentation screen, with an image popping up that showed four people.
The first person was a man who not only wore a dark-blue lab coat, but also had cyan-coloured eyes as well. He had a small, trimmed moustache and black hair, which also consisted of two white locks standing out in the front and one on the right side of the head.
The second person was a man who not only wore a dark-red lab coat, but also had black-coloured eyes as well. He had salt and pepper-coloured hair, which was neatly combed on his head.
The third person was a man who not only wore an orange-coloured lab coat, but also had grey-coloured eyes as well. He also had dark-skin, white hair, and a beard to complete his appearance.
Unlike the three researchers, the fourth person was a man with long, brown hair tied into a bun. He wore an outfit that consisted of a black frock coat, black pants, black fingerless gloves, and black, knee-high boots. At the center was a tie with golden markings on it.
"To look into the future means we must look into the past first. Allow me to demonstrate what I mean." Dr. Kogami pressed a button once again towards the presentation screen, which showed the four people looking at various research findings. "Years ago, three scientists launched a project that would ensure that humanity survived for the times to come. For this to work, the trio decided to split the project into two sub-projects. One project would focus on creating unique AI with free will, and the other would focus on anointing a chosen human to bring AI and man towards a common goal. Towards a better future, if you will."
"For these projects to obviously begin, the scientists needed funding, which was provided by SOL Technologies itself. More specifically, SOL Technologies' first CEO the Dragon King." Dr. Kogami continued. "Unfortunately, an incident occurred that led to one of the scientists losing their life. Afraid of what would happen to the world if SOL Technologies continued with the project, one of the scientists destroyed the evidence before leaving with his newly-formed family. As for the third scientist, he was sworn into secrecy after aiding the other scientist. Or so that was what everyone believed."
"Mr. Kogami. Xander Hoznour here," one of the reporters said. "What do you mean by that comment?"
"I found out that the evidence wasn't destroyed. Rather, it was split into three parts and hidden so no one else can replicate the project." Dr. Kogami clarified, which led to mutters among the crowd.
Athaliah, on the other hand, was paying close attention to what was being said. Two projects that would ensure that humanity survived... AI with free will... a chosen human... definitely got her attention.
"As for the Dragon King, the incident led to controversy for SOL Technologies." Dr. Kogami pressed the button on his remote towards the screen, which led to groups of people protesting and various court trials and testimonies. "The stocks went down, employees quit their jobs, and people protested against SOL Technologies for what happened. You could say the company experienced various crises, ranging from financial to confrontation and even personnel. In response, SOL Technologies announced several initiatives. One of which was firing the Dragon King for supporting Project: VIII." The screen changed to the higher-ups voting to evict the Dragon King, despite his protests that he didn't do anything wrong. It then changed to the Dragon King leaving the company as various protestors shouted at him for the damage he caused. "The company also eliminated all evidence of the project even existing in the first place. However, you can never get rid of something fully."
"Mr. Kogami. Alannah Hunley here. How exactly did you get this information?" a female reporter asked him.
"One of the scientists back then, Arshad Saito, helped me find the first piece after I explained my idea to him." Dr. Kogami answered her. "I'm aiming to find the other two pieces so that I can ensure that Project: VII goes smoothly."
"Mr. Kogami. Coulson Kappel here. Are you concerned about the potential harm AI's with free can unleash onto mankind?" a second male reporter asked him.
"Yes. I am concerned." Dr. Kogami admitted, which caused the audience to mutter amongst themselves. "That's why I want these AI's to learn from humans and how they solve problems. By doing so, they can find a way to work with them in solving problems. Emphasis on the word 'work' here. I mean, come on now. It's not like these AI's will create Skynet and betray the human race. Totally farfetched, if you ask me." That last comment made the audience laugh.
"Mr. Kogami. Natalee Figaro here. How will you ensure that SOL Technologies doesn't experience what it did a long time ago?" a female reporter asked.
"I have a plan in place to ensure that doesn't happen." Dr. Kogami assured her. "My team and I are debating between using children, teens, or adults for this experiment. Whatever age group we choose will be volunteer-only. This way, Project: VIII can follow the required guidelines under the Society of Science, as well as prevent a catastrophe from happening. Thank you for listening, and enjoy the night everyone!" The whole audience clapped as Dr. Kogami took a bow, his presentation finally over.
Five minutes later...
Athaliah drank some fruit punch as she contemplated what the presentation was about. A wholesome project... that was split into projects. One that focused on creating AI with free will, the other anointing a chosen human that would bridge the gap between AI and man. All towards prosperity.
How would these things be done? Dr. Kogami said he and his team debated between children, teenagers, and adults to use for the projects.
Yet he didn't describe the methods that would be used for the projects. Nor did he describe the inner details about what happened, especially the other two researchers. Who were they exactly? Were they employees of SOL Technologies? Exchange workers from a program between two companies?
"Miss Athaliah, right?" Dr. Kogami asked out of nowhere, which made Athaliah jump out of surprise.
"Uh, y-y-yes." Athaliah confirmed. "I didn't expect you to-."
"Forgive me. I tend to surprise people sometimes." Dr. Kogami apologized. "I previously talked with Derek Miyahara and Isabelle Miyahara prior to the presentation, and they told me of all your successes in Central Japan. You have my sincerest congratulations."
"T-Thank you sir." Athaliah replied.
Dr. Kogami took a sip from the drink he had in his hand, which consisted of cranberry juice as he turned his head to the left. "Central Japan is one of the few places in the world that has top-notch physicians. Especially one that's been appointed as the leader on a health project for all of Central Japan's children. Tell me something, Athaliah." He turned back to her. "What inspired you to become a physician in the first place?"
Athaliah thought about it for a moment, then said, "I always wanted to understand human anatomy. To see what exactly made humans tick, how they persevered through various trials, and figure out ways to improve them in the process."
"Interesting." Dr. Kogami thought this over before pulling out a business card and giving it to Athaliah. "While Den City has well-experience physicians, they don't have the perception you have. A keen eye, if you will. Your experience and keen eye will certainly help speed things along for Project: Apotheosis. After all, it mainly focuses on human anatomy. Your area of expertise. With your unique perspective, you can become a part of human history. Give me a call if you're interested." He then walked away from Athaliah to talk with other colleagues.
As Athaliah looked at the business card, she felt an idea coming into her mind. Maybe this project can skyrocket her career to further heights. One where she can eventually, and truly become the top physician of Central Japan. And who knows? Maybe even the entire world.
The idea still in her mind, Athaliah headed to the building's exits, intent on thinking it over more prior to making a decision.
Ten minutes later, during the night...
Athaliah was driving down the road in her car, having left the gala due to feeling tired from the event. Of all the physicians in Central Japan, Dr. Kogami sensed great potential in her alone. This elated Athaliah, as she had an opportunity to apply her practice in another area of Japan.
Den City, she recalled the location in her mind. That was where Project: VIII would commence. If Athaliah accepted, she'd likely have to move there for a bit, and the Miyahara family would have to appoint another chief physician as a replacement until she returned.
Her thoughts, however, were interrupted when Athaliah noticed two police cars following her, which made her pull over out of curiosity and confusion.
"Good evening, police officers," Athaliah said, as they approached her. "Did I do something wrong? I was following the speed limit."
"You aren't in trouble, Ms. Kuraishi. Rather, the commander-in-chief Balius wants to see you," one of the police officers requested. "Considering how you're an acquaintance of his, he sent us to fetch you."
"Why does he want to see me?" Athaliah raised an eyebrow. Surely, these officers wouldn't come here without providing a specific reason why Balius would want to see her.
"That's classified, ma'am," the other police officer answered. "We'll provide you an escort there, so please don't fall behind." After Athaliah nodded in confirmation, the police officers got back into their cars before escorting her to what looked like a large mansion.
As Athaliah entered inside, she looked around the area, which was quite large, considering how it was a mansion. As she entered the dining room, she saw a tall, broad-shouldered man with brown eyes, grey-brown hair, and a brown moustache extending to his chin eating his food.
"Pardon us, Balius," one of the officers said, "but we brought Athaliah here, as you requested."
Balius looked up at the officers with a smile. "The two of you, along with your platoon, are dismissed for the next twenty four hours. And have a replacement platoon sent here for security detail prior to leaving."
"Y-Yes sir," one of the officers said with joy, as he and his comrade left the dining room.
Knowing there was one obvious thing to do, Athaliah took a seat at the end of the small dining table across Balius, curious as to what he would want with her.
"I know it's late, but thank you for accepting my invitation." Balius began. "Did you enjoy the gala?"
"I did, sir." Athaliah confirmed. "Though I have to ask. Why exactly did you call me here?"
"Straight to the point, huh?" Balius smiled before taking a bite out of his dinner. "I want your assistance in overthrowing the Miyahara Family."
"Overthrowing the Miyahara Family?" Athaliah repeated out of shock. "Why would you do that? You're the queen's brother. The commander-in-chief. Sworn to protect-."
"Yes, yes. I'm aware." Balius dismissed Athaliah's comments. "Which is why I got some intriguing information to tell you."
Athaliah raised an eyebrow. "Okay. I'm listening."
"I recently found out that the Miyahara Family is secretly running a trafficking ring."
Upon hearing that comment, Athaliah gasped. The Miyahara Family was secretly running a trafficking ring? No. That was impossible. The Miyahara Family were pacifists. A family who ruled with a combination of charisma and peace. A family who only wanted to help others grow to become the best versions of themselves. "I don't believe you."
"You have every right to be suspicious, Athaliah. Believe me when I say I too felt those same feelings you have." Balius assured her, before pulling out a tablet and pressing 'Play'. The footage showed Derek conversing with a scientist about test results. Athaliah knew the footage was first-person, as she was looking through the eyes of an officer. Unfortunately, a scream was heard before the footage turned static. "Being the commander-in-chief, it's my responsibility to keep the peace for Central Japan at any cost, even if it means betraying my family."
"But would you kill your own family?" Athaliah inquired.
"While it's something I would certainly regret, if it came to it, yes." Balius fully answered, taking a bite of his dinner. "I have Amadeus on my side, and he's currently looking into hiring the best troops outside of Central Japan. Mercenaries, bounty hunters, hit squads, anyone who's willing to see a change in leadership for the better."
"Even if you did have the firepower, the Miyahara Family has powerful allies. Allies that can stop your efforts before they even began." Athaliah pointed out.
"That's true there. Which is why I have a solution." Balius stood up before offering Athaliah a hand. "I want a person on the inside to be my double agent. Someone who knows the inner workings of the palace. Someone who has great influence. Someone... who wants to satisfy their hunger for knowledge at any cost."
Athaliah's eyes narrowed in anger as she stood up. "How... how do you know about that?"
"It's my job to look into the profiles of influential people in Central Japan." Balius explained. "My proposal has a great benefit for you, of course. After all, you've recently been promoted as the leader on a health project for all of Central Japan's children. That means you have the authority to make sure those children are safe from the trafficking ring's operations."
"What exactly are you saying?" Athaliah took some deep breaths to steady herself. She had to be ready for whatever Balius had to say next.
"I'm saying it's time for you to give into the dark side of yourself." Balius finished, surprising Athaliah. "I read into your profile. How you conducted unethical experiments on people just to satisfy your knowledge. The way you got away with your actions without getting caught... most certainly fascinated me. And now that you not only have a high position in Central Japan, but also a chance to partake in an important project such as Project: VIIII... well, let's just say you can finally unleash your inner beast. One that's been restrained by the rules of society for such a long time. Didn't you ever want to be freed by these things? To satisfy your hunger for knowledge further without restraint?"
"I..." Athaliah thought this over for several moments. All her life, she had rather... dark impulses. Ones where she can conduct her studies through... unethical means. Athaliah did this in the past during her teen years as a physician in training, where she forced animals to their limits before they died due to the strain. While those methods were indeed unethical, she not only got away with it, but obtained high marks during her classes.
But to do those experiments on humans... was something she didn't think of doing before. In a way, it made sense. After all, humans were genetically similar to apes, so experimenting on them wouldn't be any different than experimenting on a monkey.
And besides. If Athaliah did this, she can prepare for her coming work for Project: VIII. Especially for Project: Apotheosis... boy, was that going to be good.
A smile forming on her lips, Athaliah shook Balius' hand, finally embracing her dark desires. "I accept your proposition, Balius. The sooner we get started, the sooner you can usurp the Miyahara Family and establish your rightful rule."
Balius, in response, grinned. "Indeed. And when this is over, I promise you'll achieve your desire for knowledge over and over again."
And so, over the course of many years, Athaliah acted as Balius' double agent. She gave everything to him, ranging from Central Japan's weaknesses to the latest news to geographics to the locations of possible allies and so much more.
In return, Balius promised Athaliah the freedom to conduct her experiments without fear or consequences. He even set up a personal lab for her, and made sure that various humans were sent for her experiments once a week. Balius also instructed Athaliah to send the worn-out humans to him so he can bury their bodies in a nearby cemetery.
While that was going on, Athaliah and Balius put up a front of being the Miyahara Family's allies. Since it was going to take a long time to successfully set up a coup, they might as well play the role to perfection. At least until everything was set.
But there was something Athaliah didn't know.
Balius was the one running the trafficking ring. Balius was the one who manipulated her in his web of lies. As for the children she sent Balius, they were used for his trafficking ring.
And once Balius took over all areas and fields of Central Japan, he'd end Athaliah's life himself.
Flashback End: Present Day...
"That's how I learned about Project: Apotheosis, as well as how I betrayed your family in the process." Athaliah finished.
"So... you're telling me you betrayed my family for... for the pursuit of knowledge?! And that my family... committed a heinous crime?!" Electrolyzer demanded. That was the other thing on his mind. That his family... ran a trafficking ring. No. That wasn't true. Balius was the one who ran the trafficking ring, not the Miyahara Family. They would never do such a thing. But... did they? That was what the little voice of doubt whispered in his mind.
"To put it that way, yes." Athaliah confirmed with a smirk. "Balius knew your family committed a severe crime in using other humans. That's one of the reasons why he took over. Still, as long as you're alive, Balius' rule will be challenged by the last true heir of the Miyahara Family. Perhaps sealing you in my laboratory forever as my test subject will solve the situation twofold. For Balius, an unchallenged kingship. For me, my returned test subject."
"You! I'll make you regret your actions all those years ago!" Electrolyzer snarled, putting his doubts about his family to the side. What Athaliah told him about his family just now were lies! Fallacies! After Electrolyzer dealt with Athaliah for good, he'd determine for himself whether she was speaking the truth or not. But for now, he had to defeat her, and that was something he swore to do. "My turn! I draw!" Electrolyzer drew the top card of his deck.
"Continuous-Trap, activate! Grisaille Prison!" Athaliah suddenly stated. "Since I control a monster that was either Tribute, Ritual, or Fusion Summoned, this card-!"
"I activate effect of PSY-Framegear Epsilon from my hand!" Electrolyzer interjected. "Since you activated a Trap card, I can Special Summon this card and one copy of 'PSY-Frame Driver' from my hand, deck, or Graveyard. By doing so, I can negate and destroy your Trap card."
"WHAT?!" Athaliah exclaimed, angry with herself for immediately activating Grisaille Prison as it turned into particles. Her desire to defeat Electrolyzer and make him his lab rat once again made her... quite excited, which is what motivated Athaliah to quickly activate her card.
"Now, come! PSY-Framegear Epsilon from my hand and a second copy of PSY-Frame Driver from my deck!" Two monsters then immediately appeared on Electrolyzer's field.
The first monster was a golden, mechanical monster with a mask, as well as sharp protrusions on its sides. Extending out from its small body were two, long golden-curved rods. The first one was longer than the other, and had one spike on each side. The second was split in half, with each half having two spikes and ending in a silver bolt.
The second was a second copy of Driver.

PSY-Frame Driver ATK: 2500 DEF: 0 LV: 6
"You may have stopped my trap card, but Curse of the Shadow Prison's effect makes your monsters lose 100 attack points equal to the number of Spellstone counters on it." Athaliah reminded Electrolyzer. "And last I checked, Curse of the Shadow Prison had four counters on it. That means your monsters lose 400 attack points, Brion!" Several gooey tendrils erupted from the black puddle and wrapped themselves around Epsilon and Driver, which decreased their strength.
PSY-Framegear Epsilon ATK: 1500 – (100 X 3) = 1200
PSY-Frame Driver ATK: 2500 – (100 X 3) = 2200
"I'm well aware of what your card does, Athaliah. Which is why I'll do this!" Electrolyzer thrusted his right hand upwards. "Appear, the circuit of high voltage!" A Link Portal appeared above him. "The summoning conditions are two monsters, except tokens. I'll set PSY-Framegear Epsilon and the second copy of Driver into the Link Markers!" Epsilon went into the bottom-left arrowhead, while Driver went into the bottom-right arrowhead.
"Link Summon! Appear! Link 2! PSY-Framelord Lambda!" A female, humanoid monster clad in a blue and white suit with gold and black armor that had spikes on it appeared on Electrolyzer's field in the right Extra Monster Zone. Electricity emitted from her wrists and armor.

Gooey tendrils then wrapped around Lambda, which decreased her strength.
PSY-Framelord Lambda ATK: 1700 – 300 = 1400
"While Lambda is on my field, I'm allowed to activate the effects of 'PSY-Frame' monsters from my hand even if I control a monster." Electrolyzer explained, which made Athaliah narrow her eyes at him in response. "I activate the Spell card, Psychic Re-Synchro!" The card showed a series of Synchro rings that surrounded Thought Ruler Archfiend as he emerged from a Graveyard. "This card lets me return one Psychic Tuner monster and one non-Tuner Psychic monster that are banished or in my Graveyard right back into my deck. By doing so, I can Synchro Summon one Psychic Synchro monster in defense position, whose levels equal the total levels of the returned monsters. I return the Level 1 Tuner monster Alpha from my Graveyard, and the first copy of the Level 6 non-Tuner monster Driver that's banished back to my deck!" A portal appeared beside Electrolyzer, with two cards popping out of it before he grabbed them and shuffled each one into his deck. "Now come, Level 7! PSY-Framelord Zeta!" A male, humanoid monster resembling Driver appeared on Electrolyzer's field in one of the Main Monster Zones Lambda pointed to in defense position. There were a few differences, however. Zeta had Alpha attached to his head, chest, and arms, while another PSY-Framegear monster was attached to his thighs and waist.
PSY-Framelord Zeta ATK: 2500 DEF: 1800 LV: 7
Gooey tendrils also wrapped around Zeta, which decreased his strength.

"A monster who's not only in defense position, but has less attack points to take on El Shaddoll Construct is just useless..." Athaliah muttered.
"No monster's useless Athaliah, and I'll prove it right now!" Electrolyzer replied. "I activate Zeta's effect! Once per turn, during either player's turn, I can target one Special Summoned monster you control that's in attack position and banish it along with Zeta until my next Standby Phase."
Athaliah's eyes widened out of shock before gritting her teeth in furious anger. For Electrolyzer to get past her beloved Construct without battling... how dare he do such a thing!
"I banish Construct! Electric Overcharge!" Zeta raced across the duel field with blinding speed and slashed Construct several times, laughing as both monsters turned into yellow particles. "I also activate the Spell card, D.D.R - Different Dimension Reincarnation. By discarding one card from my hand, I can target and Special Summon one of my banished monsters from my Graveyard. However, if this card leaves my field, the equipped monster is destroyed. I discard Card of Compensation, and bring Zeta back to my field!" At Electrolyzer's command, Zeta reappeared on his field once more. Upon doing so, the gooey tendrils wrapped around him and decreased his strength.
PSY-Framelord Zeta ATK: 2500 DEF: 1800 LV: 7
PSY-Framelord Zeta ATK: 2500 – 300 = 2200
"In addition, I activate Card of Compensation's effect! Since it was sent to the Graveyard by a card effect, I can draw two cards from the top of my deck!" Electrolyzer added, much to Athaliah's chagrin, as he drew the top two cards of his deck. "And as Zeta is no longer banished, any chance of your Construct coming back to your field is reduced to zero!"
That child Brion dares to banish my beloved Construct and get new cards at the same time, Athaliah furiously thought. If he thinks he can get away with this, he should think again!
"Battle!" Electrolyzer declared. "PSY-Framelord Lambda attacks your face-down defense position monster!" Lambda charged forward, intent on destroying the Set monster.
"The card you're attacking is Nehshaddoll Genius." Athaliah announced, as the card flipped over, which revealed a humanoid shadow with a single eye that had only a left arm. It wore purple armor on its head, left arm, thighs, and right leg. Trailing behind it was a long, wispy shadow. "And as I no longer have another 'Shaddoll' monster on my field, I can't activate Genius's Flip Effect."
Nehshaddoll Genius ATK: 1800 DEF: 1000 LV: 4
"So what? That doesn't matter at all!" Lambda grabbed Genius before electrocuting it with such energy that it turned into particles. "The battle still continues! PSY-Framelord Zeta attacks you directly! Electro Pressure Hit!" Zeta charged forward at Athaliah, enveloping himself with electricity as he did so. After identifying his target's pressure points, Zeta proceeded to damage each one in lightning speed, which sent Athaliah flying off the ground as her life points dropped in the process.
Athaliah: 4000 – 2200 = 1800 LP
"I Set one card face-down and end my turn, which means the second effect of Lambda activates. Since a Psychic monster was banished, I can add one 'PSY-Frame' card from my deck to my hand. I add PSY-Framegear Gamma from my deck to my hand. In addition, Curse of the Shadow Prison's second effect ends, and my monster's attack points return to normal." Electrolyzer concluded, as a card popped out of his deck, which he took and added to his hand. Zeta and Lambda then got the gooey tendrils off their bodies, thus returning their strength to normal.
PSY-Framelord Lambda ATK: 1400 + 300 = 1700
PSY-Framelord Zeta ATK: 2200 + 300 = 2500
"You disrespectful child!" Athaliah shouted, standing up on her own feet. "How dare you hurt an adult like that!"
"An adult? I honestly don't see you as a human being at all. Instead, I see you as a monster. One that needs to be eliminated permanently!" Electrolyzer shot back.
"I'll make sure to teach you some manners this turn Brion, and it won't be pretty at all!" Athaliah promised. "My turn! I draw!" She drew the top card of her deck.
"Trap card, activate! Psychic Rejuvenation!" Electrolyzer interrupted. "This card lets me gain 1000 life points for every Psychic monster on my field. I currently have two Psychic monsters on my field, which means I gain 2000 life points!" A green aura surrounded Electrolyzer, which increased his life points.
Electrolyzer: 1700 + (1000 X 2) = 3700 LP
"I activate the Spell card, El Shaddoll Awakening!" The card showed Construct rising from underneath the surface, its strings releasing several Shaddoll monsters. These monsters included Dragon, Beast, Hedgehog, and Winda. "By sending a 'Shaddoll' card from my deck to my Graveyard, I can Special Summon one 'Shaddoll' Fusion monster that's banished or in my Graveyard back to my field! What's more, the 'Shaddoll' Fusion monster Special Summoned by this effect is unaffected by your card effects for the rest of my turn!"
"...!" Electrolyzer's eyes widened out of shock. In his hand, he only had Gamma and Emergency Teleport in his hand. If only he added Beta to his hand with Lambda's effect...
"I send Naelshaddoll Ariel from my deck to my Graveyard, and Special Summon Construct from my banished zone back to my field!" Athaliah said, as she sent a card from her hand to her Graveyard. Once that was done, the ground cracked as Construct rose back to her field, an aura surrounding it in the process.

"The effects of Ariel, Construct and Curse of the Shadow Prison now activate. First, since Ariel was sent to the Graveyard by a card effect, I can target up to three cards in either of our Graveyards and banish them!" Athaliah said.
"You have got to be kidding me..." Electrolyzer muttered, gritting his teeth.
An image of Electrolyzer's Graveyard then popped up, allowing Athaliah to ponder over what card to choose. "I target Driver, PSY-Framegear Epsilon, and Psychic Re-Synchro in your Graveyard, and banish them for good!" All three cards then turned to particles, much to Electrolyzer's dismay. "Second, since Construct was Special Summoned, I can send a 'Shaddoll' card from my deck to the Graveyard. I send a second copy of Beast from my deck to my Graveyard." Athaliah added, as a card popped out of her deck, which she took and sent to her Graveyard. "Third, just like before, Curse of the Shadow Prison's effect activates once more!" As if on cue, the black puddle glowed briefly moments later.
Curse of the Shadow Prison SSC: 3 + 2 = 5
"Fourth, as the second copy of Beast was sent to the Graveyard by a card effect, I can draw one card from the top of my deck!" Athaliah stated, as she drew the top card of her deck. Upon looking at it, she grinned wickedly. "And like before, Curse of the Shadow Prison's effect gives it another Spellstone counter!"
Curse of the Shadow Prison SSC: 5 + 1 = 6
"I summon Shaddoll Hound from my hand to my field." A purple-skinned hound with golden armor all over its body appeared on Athaliah's field.

"Battle!" Athaliah declared. "El Shaddoll Construct attacks PSY-Framelord Lambda! Sinister Nightmare!" Construct pointed its finger at Lambda, causing the strings behind its back to go straight towards her and pierced her completely, causing a massive explosion that made Electrolyzer shield himself using both of his arms.
Electrolyzer: 3700 – 1100 = 2600 LP
"And with Lambda out of the way, I can do this! Appear! The circuit of nightmares!" A Link Portal appeared above Athaliah's head. "The summoning conditions are one 'Shaddoll' monster! I'll set Shaddoll Hound into the Link Markers!" Hound went into the bottom-right arrowhead, turning it red.
"Link Summon! Appear! Link 1! Shaddoll Mannequin!" A wooden doll with bright red eyes suddenly emerged from the black puddle and onto Athaliah's field in the right Extra Monster Zone.

"When Shaddoll Mannequin is Link Summoned, I'm allowed to add a 'Shaddoll' card from my deck or Graveyard to my hand. I'll add Shaddoll Restraint from my deck to my hand." Athaliah announced, as a card popped out of her deck, which she took and added to her hand. "I Set two cards face-down and end my turn, which means the second effect of El Shaddoll Awakening ends." She grinned. "This may be your last chance, Brion. You better not take it, lest you become my lab rat once again. Just like how I kidnapped you a long time ago."
"Like Hell I'll let that happen!" Electrolyzer declared.
"But it happened a long time ago, Brion, whether you like it or not." Athaliah countered. "After all, taking you away from your family was quite easy if you ask me.."
Flashback: Six Years earlier, at Central Japan during the night...
"In the years as a double agent, I got so used to obtaining information that I practically memorized everything. Ranging from your schedules to troop movements to the latest on medicine, my mind was filled with more information that I could not expect. Especially having come to the realization that you and your siblings may hold the key to the completion of my experiments."
Athaliah drove a truck that contained a squad of troops, which were given by Balius himself. As a reward for her assistance, he gave her permission to kidnap any of the Miyahara Family's children for use in Project: Apotheosis.
That, and Athaliah proposed a persuasive argument to Balius in using one of the Miyahara Family's children as test subjects. She said that the children excelled in various areas, as evident by their high scores than the average child. Athaliah's hope was that, by using one of the three children (or all of them, if she was lucky), she can successfully create the anointed human that Dr. Kogami wanted to see for Project: Apotheosis. Or as she called it, a 'Construct'.
Unfortunately, Dr. Kogami's experiment, which people called the Lost Incident, was shut down by a whistleblower. Dr. Kogami was arrested, and his partners fled in the process. What's more, the eight children were given S-Class protection both by the FBI and the police, so the chances of Athaliah using any of them were practically reduced to zero.
As such, Athaliah had to move quickly, lest she lose the chance of kidnapping one of the Miyahara Family's children.
Eventually, she pulled into the palace's driveway by using an old key card to get pass the blockade. After going outside and opening the trunk, several troops armed with guns jumped onto the ground, with one of them giving Athaliah a grenade launcher.
Going into the nearby bushes, she pressed the trigger, which caused a smoke grenade to enter the palace before emitting a ton of smoke. Athaliah and the troops put on gas masks before storming the mansion.
"Who goes there?!" Derek demanded, as he charged forward and shot several of the troops using his gun. Athaliah, hearing this, quickly moved before encountering two guards and shooting a blast that practically knocked them out. Running down the hall, she turned left before quickly turning right, knowing her way throughout the palace.
More guards appeared in front of Athaliah, only for her troops to gun them down nearby. Perfect, she thought, as she continued running down the hallway before running up the stairs. Another troop showed up, only for Athaliah to pull out a knife and slash him before he fell to the ground out of shock.
There it was. The bedrooms for Brion, Granger, and Tessa. Which child would she-.
The next thing Athaliah knew, she was attacked by Granger, who managed to disarm her before knocking her to the ground.
"You're not hurting my family!" Granger declared, only for Athaliah to get right back up and deliver a punch to his stomach, which pushed him back.
"And who will stop me? You?" Athaliah taunted, running towards Granger before attempting to hit him with a knee strike. However, at the last minute, Granger got out of the way before kicking Athaliah in the stomach with such force she was forced onto one knee. Taking advantage of this, Granger punched her to the ground.
But before he can finish her off, Athaliah quickly pulled out her pistol and fired it at Granger's leg, which made him grab his leg in pain as he fell to the ground.
"Granger!" Brion screamed out of nowhere, who was with Tessa and Isabelle.
Seeing Brion and Tessa made Athaliah smile, as she got up and chased after the trio, who obviously ran away from her. Elsewhere, one of the troops attempted to grab Granger, only for Derek to shoot the troop down.
"Granger! Are you okay?" Derek asked with worry, kneeling down to where his son was as he put pressure on his wound.
"One of them is after mom, Brion, and Tessa." Granger answered.
Two guards went over to where Derek was. Seeing them, Derek said, "Take Granger to the hospital quick!"
"Yes sir!" one of the guards complied, picking up Granger while the other put pressure on his wound.
Thinking quickly, Derek pulled out his phone and checked the progress of his police call. Since the attack began, he called the cops. What was taking them so long, though?
Meanwhile, Athaliah continued chasing after the trio, with them trying to escape the house. As they did so, she was intrigued. The face that they still had strength even after being surrounded in smoke was interesting.
If she captured Tessa and Brion while her troops captured Granger, then the whole mission would have been worth it even more.
Knowing that the three of them won't escape together, Brion closed the door behind Tessa and Isabelle.
"Please, Brion! Don't do this!" Tessa begged her brother.
"We can still make it out together!" Isabelle added.
"Mom. Sis. I'm sorry." Brion replied, before turning to Athaliah. She attempted to fire several bullets at Brion, who managed to avoid each one before punching her with such strength that she was pushed back.
"Leave my family alone!" Derek exclaimed, him and Brion having surrounded Athaliah. "Surrender! There's no where else for you to run!"
"We'll see about that." Athaliah replied, pulling out a small, button-like device that resembled a micro bomb. She then threw it in the air and fired at it, which released what looked like a poison, nerve gas. This caused both Derek and Brion to cough several times before the two of them fell to the ground unconscious.
Seizing the chance, Athaliah picked up Brion and put him over her shoulder before heading towards the nearby window. Using her gun, she quickly broke the glass before jumping down and landing on the ground.
Hearing the nearby sirens, Athaliah narrowed her eyes. Just great. It seems that Derek's emergency call alerted nearby authorities that weren't loyal to Balius.
Still, as long as she got one of the Miyahara children, her goal was successful. "All troops. Retreat and return to the van," she whispered. After hearing a series of rogers on her end, Athaliah quickly ran over to the van and threw Brion in the trunk before getting into the driver's seat. The troops eventually made it to the van and jumped inside of the van, one of them closing the trunk in the process.
Athaliah then drove the van as fast as she could away from the mansion, a smirk forming on her face in the process.
While she only kidnapped one child, she at least had a worthy lab rat for Project: Apotheosis. In a sense, Athaliah was curious on how Brion would respond to the experiments. Whether he surpassed her expectations or not was something she wanted to find out for herself.
Flashback End: Present Day...
"Though you may see what I did as horrible, I see my choices in kidnapping you, along with all those other people as instructive. Everything I did was to help me understand the human anatomy, and how much pain humans can go through for the greater good. For the creation of the ultimate human being. A Construct, if you will." Athaliah finished.
"Everything you did to those people... to me... you hurt us... for the greater good?!" Electrolyzer exclaimed.
"When you put it like that, yes." Athaliah confirmed. "After all, what good is knowledge without learning? What good is working towards a goal if you don't have an experiment in place? You should feel grateful Brion, in participating in an experiment such as Project: Apotheosis."
"Grateful? GRATEFUL?!" Electrolyzer repeated out of pure fury. "You abused human beings for your sick intentions. Traumatized them forever. I won't forgive you for this Athaliah, and once I defeat you this turn, you'll feel the same pain we victims felt a long time ago! My turn! I draw!" He drew the top card of his deck. Unfortunately for him, gooey tendrils erupted from the black puddle before wrapping themselves around Zeta, which decreased his strength once again.
PSY-Framelord Zeta ATK: 2500 – (100 X 6) = 1900
"Trap card, activate! Shaddoll Restraint!" Athaliah interrupted. The card showed Satellarknight Procyon, Sirius, and Betelgeuse raised into the air by purple strings, each of the three warriors having been restrained by them. The one responsible for this was El Shaddoll Apkallone, who had a smirk on her face as she, Winda, and Wendigo laughed at their captives' pain."By shuffling one 'Shaddoll' monster from my field or Graveyard into my deck, I can declare one monster card type and prevent either player from Special Summoning monsters of the declared type for the rest of this turn. In addition, I can negate the effects of all monsters of that type while they're on the field."
"WHAT?!" Electrolyzer said, his eyes having widened out of shock by what he just heard.
"I shuffle Mannequin from my field into my Extra Deck and declare Synchro!" After Mannequin turned into particles, a blast fired out of Shaddoll Restraint towards Zeta, which immersed him in a gray aura that negated his effects. In addition, a gray aura surrounded Electrolyzer's deck, which prevented him from Synchro Summoning for the rest of this turn.
Athaliah blocked out most of my Extra Deck, Electrolyzer realized in his mind. Still, there was one other summoning method he can do from the Extra Deck, but for that to happen, he had to draw the right card from his deck. "I activate the Spell card, Synchro Recycle!" The card showed Power Tool Dragon being rebuilt by workers in a factory. Overseeing the reconstruction efforts was a boy with blue-green hair that was pulled into a single, high ponytail. The boy also had two shoulder-length bangs on both sides of his face. "By returning one Synchro monster on my field to my Extra Deck, I can draw three cards from the top of my deck! However, I can't add cards from my deck to my hand for the rest of this turn! I return Zeta on my field back into my Extra Deck and draw!" After Zeta turned into particles, Electrolyzer drew the top three cards of his deck. Yes! These cards will most certainly help him win the duel! "I activate the Quick-Play Spell card, Emergency Teleport. This card lets me Special Summon one Level 3 or lower monster from my hand or deck to my field. However, it's destroyed at the end of my turn."
"Whatever monster you summon won't defeat me." Athaliah bragged.
"We'll see in the next few minutes, won't we?" Electrolyzer replied. "Using Emergency Teleport, I Special Summon PSY-Framegear Delta from my deck to my field!" A pair of metallic gloves on his hands, which were attached to a tall, golden mechanical monster with a mask on it appeared on his field. Gooey tendrils then wrapped around it, decreasing its strength in the process.

"But it won't be on my field for long, as I activate the Spell card, Miracle Synchro Fusion! This card lets me perform a Fusion Summon by banishing monsters from my field or Graveyard that are listed on a Fusion monster in my Extra Deck! I banish Hyper Psychic Riser from my Graveyard, and PSY-Framegear Delta on my field to Fusion Summon!" Delta disintegrated into red particles of energy, while a silhouette of Hyper Psychic Riser appeared before he turned into blue particles of energy. The red and blue particles of energy then swirled into a vortex. Two tornadoes of energy shot upwards and merged to form a magenta whirlwind.
"Fallen demon born from black flames, absorb these energies and arise anew!" Electrolyzer chanted. "Fusion Summon! Emerge, Level 10! Ultimate Axon Kicker!" A massive, green-skinned demon with white and orange spines all over his body appeared on Electrolyzer's field in the Main Monster Zone Lambda pointed to. He had two sets of wings with orange spines all over them, including a long tail trailing behind him. Green lightning also crackled underneath Ultimate Axon Kicker's skin as well.

"Not for long!" Electrolyzer responded. "I activate the Equip Spell card, Psychic Energizer, and equip it onto Ultimate Axon Kicker! A Psychic monster equipped with this card gains 1500 attack and defense points. Also, if the equipped Psychic monster battles, it's unaffected by the effects of your Spell and Trap cards until the end of my turn." Ultimate Axon Kicker was surrounded in an electrical aura, which increased his strength.
Ultimate Axon Kicker ATK: 2300 + 1500 = 3800
"Battle!" Electrolyzer pointed his right index finger at Athaliah's field. "Ultimate Axon Kicker attacks El Shaddoll Construct! I activate the Quick-Play Spell card, Battle Fusion from my hand as well! When a face-up monster I control battles, it gains attack points equal to the attack points of the opponent's monster until the end of the damage step!"
"No way!" Athaliah gasped. If this attack succeeded...
"You heard me! Ultimate Axon Kicker gains your Construct's 2800 attack points!" Electrolyzer replied, as Ultimate Axon Kicker roared as his strength increased.
Ultimate Axon Kicker ATK: 3800 + 2800 = 6600
"This is for everyone you tortured all those years ago, Athaliah! Retribution is finally ours!" Electrolyzer declared, before turning to Ultimate Axon Kicker, whose strength having reached his full potential. "Electric Breaker!" Ultimate Axon Kicker gathered green lightning in his hands before firing it at Construct.
"No! This wasn't how it was supposed to end! I still need to satisfy my hunger for knowledge, to complete Project: Apotheosis!" Athaliah screamed, as the blast hit Construct, which caused a massive explosion afterwards.
"I did it!" Electrolyzer smiled. "I did it! Mom. Dad. Tessa. Granger. Everyone. I achieved victory for all of-!" His speech, however, was interrupted upon seeing Athaliah and Construct unharmed, the two of them behind a translucent wall. In addition, Electrolyzer also saw an activated Trap card, which made him widen his eyes with shock upon recognizing the card. No. Not that card, he thought.
Athaliah laughed upon seeing Electrolyzer's face. One that turned from victorious to being filled with dread and despair. "Is that what you expected me to say upon my defeat?! A defeat where my dreams are destroyed?! Such a vision is pathetic! Especially when I got this!" She gestured to her face-down card. "I activated the Trap card, Dimension Wall! This turn, any battle damage I would have taken is inflicted back to you!"
"No! It can't be!" Electrolyzer exclaimed.
"I'm afraid it is, Brion." Athaliah replied with glee.
In response, Electrolyzer grit his teeth. "Even if I fall, another will put an end to you."
"And I will put an end to that person when they try." Athaliah countered. "This entire world is my science experiment, Brion. One where I can manipulate the humans of this world to my bidding as lab rats. One where I can tear them apart for the sake of knowledge. One where my goals are met by killing others. That is my world view, and I think it's time I drill it in your head for good!" The wall glowed with a bright light before firing a blast back at Electrolyzer.
Mom. Dad. Tessa. Granger. Everyone. I'm so sorry, were Electrolyzer's last thoughts before he was sent flying back off the ground and hit the wall with such force that he fell unconscious.
Electrolyzer: 2600 – 3800 = 0
Athaliah laughed with glee as she approached Electrolyzer, intent on turning him into her lab rat once again. Shadowy strings then appeared behind Athaliah, which wrapped themselves around Electrolyzer. "My favourite lab rat. Back in my comforting arms again. You and I are going to have so much fun Br-!"
CRASH!
Athaliah gasped as two people, along with Geomathmech Final Sigma, broke through the ceiling window before landing on the ground in front of her.
The first person, Greg, immediately fired several rounds of bullets from his gun, which hit each string before disintegrating them. He didn't bother aiming to shoot Athaliah, as he knew that she had other tricks up her sleeve.
The second was a girl, whose attire consisted of a black coat and shirt that had red, silver, and yellow stripes all over it, with sigma symbols on the shoulder pads. She also wore grey shorts, leggings, and boots that each had red, silver, and yellow lines all over it. Sigma symbols were included on the sides for each of them.
While the girl kept her white bob-cut, her eyes were now lime green instead of just green.
Final Sigma brought down its blazing sword down to Athaliah, only for her to somersault backwards to barely avoid it.
"Numera..." Athaliah seethed, recognizing the girl as she stood up on her feet, along with Greg. Final Sigma then turned into particles that went into Numera's duel disk.
"It's time for you to pay for your crimes, Athaliah!" Greg declared, as he activated his duel disk.
"Your fun ends here and forever!" Numera added, also activating her duel disk.
A light shines and the letters spelling out VRAINS light up the screen before a network is formed and several cards are drawn in towards a pillar of light. Playmaker, Raguel, and Soulburner are shown with their respective Ignis and stats, along with real-life forms that across the backgrounds that match their Ignis' colors. The screen then shows each of them being shocked while wearing VR sets as kids, along with Arashi.
The screen gets swallowed with darkness at it reveals a young Yukage huddled up and crying, his shadow shrinking behind him before taking the form of Wraith and comforting him. Yukage looks up with a menacing and soul piercing glare before the darkness consumes him and he's replaced with an older version of himself. Azrael and Wraith are then shown in NEW LINK VRAINS, as they look out into the digital sky. The scene then shifts to Bohman standing tall above NEW LINK VRAINS and holding the earth in his hands with Haru by his side. Malf grins in the shadows behind them, his red eyes shining bright in the process.
A drop of light falls down, and as it explodes, it reveals Playmaker, Raguel, and Soulburner, standing on buildings watching over the network, along with Slipstream as well. Blood Shepherd is shown commanding a trio of Battledrone Sergeants before the screen shifts to Drachen, who is shown commanding Red-Eyes Black Dragon. The screen then shifts a third time to Electrolyzer, where above him was PSY-Frame Driver, with PSY-Framegears Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, and Zeta. The screen then shows Go Onizuka, Kenmochi, and Yoroizaka with Dinowrestler King T Wrextle, Gouki the Blade Ogre, and Gouki the Solid Ogre behind them ready for battle.
Blue Girl, Ghost Girl, Numera and SengokuQueen are then featured together riding their duel boards across the night sky with shooting stars flying across them. Trickstar Holly Angel was with Blue Girl, while Numera was with Geomathmech Final Sigma. Ghost Girl was with Altergeist Dragvirion, while SengokuQueen was with Secret Six Samurai - Rihan.
The screen then changes to Raguel, Playmaker, and Soulburner riding on their duel boards with Cyreath Medusa and Cyreath Hercules/Alpha Mode, Cyberse Magician, Cyberse Witch, and Salamangreat Heatleo behind them. Following the trio is Slipstream and Clear Wing Synchro Dragon. The four of them join together with a fist bump and smile in the real world as the wind blows, with Kusanagi, Roxy, and Greg watching them from Kusanagi's truck. Rachel then runs toward the quartet, and more specifically, Yuhiro, a look of joy clearly on her face. Unbeknownst to everyone, they're watched from the shadows by a cloaked person who glares at them, biding his time.

Next time on Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS: Obscured Truth. Chapter 63: Nevermore. Numera and Greg show up to aid Electrolyzer in his time of need, intent on bringing Athaliah to justice once and for all. Meanwhile, Raguel and the others continue to close in on Speckles, only for Blood Shepherd to catch him first, having a different, yet similar motive in mind for the Alpha branch's boss...
Author's Notes
And with that, the first chapter of the new year is done. That being said, I hoped you all enjoyed it, as well as the surprises that were in it. Anyhow, let's begin the recap.
First is Yuhiro teaching Arashi Pendulum Summoning, as well as learning two things about him. One, Arashi isn't a transfer student. Rather, he's an exchange student, who was able to get into Den Academy thanks to his grandpa pulling some strings to sign him up for an exchange program very fast. Two is how Yuhiro saved Arashi's life for a second time. While Arashi was heading to Den City, a computer virus called 'Goodbye!' attempted to hack into the train and kill everyone on board, Arashi included. Luckily, at the time, Yuhiro was looking for a challenge and wanted to shut the virus down. So in a sense, Yuhiro indirectly saved Arashi's life for a second time.
Next is the real-life attack on the Den City Hospital. I was originally wary in including a real-life attack, but considering how you guys wanted to see one for a long time….well, I hope I surprised you all. Basically, Yuhiro (along with Hercules/Alpha Mode, Atalanta, and Medusa), practically beat up the troops sent by Alpha, with one of them being forced to give a message to Ace, with the quote being from the Venom movie itself. Once that was done, Yuhiro used a neuralyzer to wipe the memories of the doctors and nurses that were there. For those of you who don't know what a neuralyzer is, it's a device from the Men in Black series that wipes people's memories out. This action was actually reckless for Yuhiro, as he could have risked his identity being exposed. Still, it shows another side of him, as he won't tolerate hurting those that dare to go after his friends and family.
From there, we go to the scenes in the network, with Raguel and Blood Shepherd basically having a Mexican Stand Off. Long story short, Blood Shepherd threatens to expose Takeru's identity as Soulburner to the world, while in return, Raguel threatens to leak incriminating information about Blood Shepherd should he go through with his threat. This forces Blood Shepherd to back down for a second time, as he doesn't want to risk losing everything, especially his mother disapproving his actions. The less she knows, the better.
Now onto the two duels. First is Blue Girl vs Enzo, one of the casino agents from Chapter 21 (does anyone remember him from back then?). For Enzo, I had him use the Three Musketeer of Face Cards deck to not only give Blue Girl a challenge, but to also fit in Alpha's theme of casinos and gambling as well. It's here where we learn more about Enzo, especially his ties with Ace. A long time ago, Enzo's family were the rules of the Alpha Branch. However, Ace's family, the Akutagawa's, took control of it by force. Instead of finishing Enzo's family off, they welcomed them in as servants and showed them mercy. Ace's parents ruled over the Alpha Branch with kindness and compassion, but after Ace took over, he turned it upside down and undid all the work his parents did. While Ace was in prison, Enzo attempted to make things right, but when Ace returned, all those efforts went for naught. The worst part? Enzo can't rebel against Ace because of the oath he made to his family. That, and Ace has powerful allies (aka. Malf and Azrael). In a sense, this makes Enzo and Blue Girl the same, as they're fighting to protect someone they know. For Enzo's case, Ace and his family. For Blue Girl's case, her family and friends.
In the end, Blue Girl won the duel, and Enzo not only gave her a card so she can find her friends, he also destroyed all evidence of the 'Wanted' posters as well. This way, neither Blue Girl nor her friends will be targeted by Ace and the Black Market. It goes to show that Enzo, similar to Yeshurun and his wife, is amongst the honourable individuals in the Black Market.
The second duel is between Athaliah and Electrolyzer, which took a little longer to complete, as I wanted to make sure it was the main highlight of the chapter. For those of you wanting to know why Athaliah betrayed the Miyahara family, as well as how she got involved into Project: Apotheosis, this chapter finally answers both questions.
Athaliah learned about Project: VIII eleven years earlier at a gala, where Dr. Kogami spoke about his intent on restarting it, along with Project: Apotheosis. Here, you learn a bit more about the events surrounding Project: VIII. While there are three researchers as before, you also learn how Project: VIII was funded the first time around. Back then, there was only main lead of SOL Technologies. One King, and this person was known as the Dragon King, who himself was intrigued by the results Project: VIII can yield. Unfortunately, following the incident, SOL Technologies experienced various crises ranging from financial to confrontation and even personnel. In response, SOL Technologies announced several initiatives. One of which was firing the Dragon King for supporting Project: VIII, even though he didn't do anything wrong. What's more, SOL Technologies eliminated all evidence of the project even existing in the first place. However, you can never get rid of something fully, as evident by how Dr. Kogami found one of the pieces thanks to Arshad's help.
Following the gala, Athaliah ended up meeting Balius at his request. Here, he manages to persuade her into joining his cause by revealing some incriminating information: The Miyahara Family was secretly running a trafficking ring, with evidence to prove that it was true. This was obviously a lie, as Balius was the one who was running it in secret. However, Athaliah doesn't know that, and believes that to be true. He then played on Athaliah's desires, saying that she always desired to satisfy their hunger for knowledge at any cost. That part was true, as Athaliah always wanted to learn new things, no matter if it was ethical or not. What's more, she was able to get away with it as well. It was here where she embraced her dark side by accepting Balius' offer, which was one of two events that made her into the person she is today.
Five years later, Athaliah went to kidnap the Miyahara family children for Project: Apotheosis. For those of you wondering when this takes place, this occurs after the Lost Incident, where the Hanoi project was shut down. During the operation, Athaliah was only able to kidnap Brion, as he was able to prevent his younger sister Tessa from being captured. Why did she attempt to kidnap the Miyahara family children? Simple. It's because they demonstrated higher scores in various areas than the average child. Though she kidnapped one child, the mission proved to be a success, as she can now see whether these average-than-normal children can endure her experiments.
Hearing these stories, Electrolyzer actually doubts what he believed about his own family. All his life, he saw his family as pacifists. People who only wanted to work for the betterment of others. The question was this: Was the information Athaliah told him true or not? The answer will be revealed, but much later. Nevertheless, Athaliah won the duel in the end, as Electrolyzer didn't anticipate her having a trap card that would reflect all the battle damage back to him. Some of you might be wondering why he didn't have PSY-Framegear Epsilon in his hand, as if it was in his hand, he could have negated it and won the duel. Unfortunately, Epsilon was banished thanks to Naelshaddoll Ariel's effect, and Electrolyzer added the wrong PSY-Framegear monster to his hand.
Besides, I wanted to have Athaliah win a duel at least once in the story.
Anyhow, the chapter ends with two things. First, is Blood Shepherd intercepting Speckles. What are his intentions? Is he following Akira's orders for a change? I highly doubt that, but you'll just have to read on and find out next chapter.
The second thing is Greg and Numera breaking in and coming to Electrolyzer's rescue. Numera's avatar also changed as well, with her appearance being partially inspired from Fie Claussell, who's from Trails of Cold Steel.
With everything summed up, I want to thank all of you for reading Chapter 62 of Obscured Truth. As always, please let me know your thoughts about the chapters below in your reviews. Also, constructive criticism is appreciated, as your tips and advice helps make the story better. In addition, don't forget to favourite and follow the story. That way, you will get a notification once the next chapter is released.
