Welcome back to the Xenoblade Heart to Heart series! Last time, we formally entered Bionis' Leg with Spyro and Cynder having their usual chat. Now we return to the cast members of the game. So, who's first? It's going to be Dunban! So let's get on with it!

Heart to Heart 24: Trust of Brothers

Participants: Spyro and Dunban

Location: Rho Oasis

Affinity: Lavender

Introduction

Dunban: I can still remember the first time Fiora and I came here, if vaguely.

Spyro: Really? What happened? If you don't mind telling me.

Dunban: No issue. The Mechon attacked Colony 9, my main goal was to get Fiora to safety.

Spyro: Got to love that sibling instinct.

Pass/Pass

Dunban: You sound like you speak from experience.

Spyro: (Thinking about it) I... guess I do.

Dunban: You have a younger sibling too, I see.

Spyro: Sparx and I are the same age actually, though he always claimed to be a few minutes older. But I get your instinct in getting Fiora to safety. Before we made our final assault on Malefor's lair, I had to send Sparx off with the Guardians. There was no way he could've survived what was to come.

Dunban: It sounds like you had travelled together a while.

Spyro: Had we ever. He'd been my constant companion since I left the Swamp when I was 12.

Dunban: A bond that strong is not easily broken.

Spyro: He... took it pretty well actually. And it ultimately led to the only moment I've ever seen him put any trust in Cynder.

Dunban: Really?

Spyro: Yeah. He asked her to watch over me.

Dunban: I can say it must've been harder for him than you realize. In his mind, it was his duty as your brother to watch over you. Especially if he considered himself the older brother. That shows not only tremendous trust in Cynder, but trust in you as well.

Spyro: I'm not sure I catch your drift.

Dunban: He had seen you grow up over your quest, and realized his brother was ready to take on his destiny.

Spyro: I... never honestly thought about it that way.

Pass/Fail

Dunban: You sound like you speak from experience.

Spyro: (Thinking about it) I... guess I do.

Dunban: You have a younger sibling too, I see.

Dunban: It sounds like you had travelled together a while.

Spyro: Had we ever. He'd been my constant companion since I left the Swamp when I was 12.

Dunban: I hate to interrupt you, but I am sure Cynder has told me this part of the story before.

Spyro: Really?

Dunban: Sparx trusted her to look after you, something very unusual for him I understand.

Spyro: Yeah, it really was. Do you think that, I don't know, means something?

Dunban: If anything, it shows trust.

Spyro: Trust?

Dunban: Trust in you, trust in Cynder, trust that everything would turn out for the best.

Spyro: (Thinking about it) I'm honestly thinking it was at least in part a self-preservation instinct.

Dunban: That... is entirely possible. I don't know Sparx well enough to assess him accurately.

Spyro: If you're ever in our neck of the woods, I'll introduce you.

Fail/Pass

Dunban: It was no instinct.

Spyro: No instinct? What do you mean?

Dunban: It took much more conscious thought than you realize. But ultimately it works out for the best.

Spyro: I'm not sure I catch what you're saying.

Dunban: You have to consciously ignore every instinct of your own self preservation, and focus that energy in perserving the life of your sibling.

Spyro: Huh. I never once thought about it that way.

Dunban: Many would consider you fortunate in that way. But even though you haven't, you put it to practice in the best way. I've seen the way you're willing to lie down on the wire for anyone. Never change, Spyro.

Spyro: I don't plan on changing any time soon, Dunban.

Fail/Fail

Dunban: It was no instinct.

Spyro: No instinct? What do you mean?

Dunban: It took much more conscious thought than you realize. But ultimately it works out for the best.

Spyro: I'm not sure I catch what you're saying.

Dunban: It's not obvious?

Spyro: No, not really.

Dunban: Oh. My apologies. I thought I hinted at it enough. I mean it took more active thought of focusing on what your sibling needs as opposed to your own. It's a sort of reverse hedonistic calculus.

Spyro: That has to be the most confusing way I've ever heard someone say putting someone else's needs before your own.

Dunban: (Thinks about it) I guess I could've just said it that way.

And that wraps up our first conversation with the game's cast in this area. So, what does Cynder have to say to Dunban this time? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
