Heart to Heart 26: Time After Time

Introduction

Sharla: I can't thank you and Cynder enough for saving my little brother.

Spyro: Just doing what needed to be done, Sharla.

Sharla: Forgive me if I'm being too curious, but how did you get Juju out of his confines so fast? It looked like one second you were there, then the next you were over there? What was that, teleportation?

Spyro: Not really teleportation per se. I can actually manipulate time to a degree. I just slowed down my perception of it. As to how that makes me appear faster from another's perspective, I'm not really sure.

Sharla: Wait, you can manipulate time?

Spyro: To a point, yes. Though before today, I hadn't done it in three years. I was unsure I even still had that ability if I had to be honest.

Sharla: Wait, if he can manipulate time, does that mean...?

Spyro: Sharla, I may not know you that well, but I can tell when you're thinking something. What's on your mind?

Sharla: I guess there's no hiding it. If this is true, then there's one thing I wonder about.

Spyro: That being?

Sharla: You can manipulate time in the present, but... can you go back through it?

Spyro: Go back through it? (Puts it together) You want me to warn your past self about what happens to Colony 6, don't you?

Sharla: I mean... I don't know... If it's even possible...

Spyro: I really don't want to disappoint you.

Sharla: What do you mean?

Spyro: At strongest, my abilities can be used to see slightly into the future. I've figured at best all I could do is see back in time, not go back in time. So as far as I can tell, there's no way to do what you're asking. I'm sorry.

Sharla: (Slightly downtrodden) Oh. Okay.

Spyro: But if I had to be honest, it's probably for the best that I can't do that.

Sharla: What makes you say that?

Spyro: You wouldn't be who you are today if you were warned about what was going to happen.

Sharla: (Sighs) Fair enough. But still, you can't blame me for wanting to know for sure.

Spyro: I certainly cannot.

Sharla: Wait, you can manipulate time?

Spyro: To a point, yes. Though before today, I hadn't done it in three years. I was unsure I even still had that ability if I had to be honest.

Sharla: Wait, if he can manipulate time, does that mean...?

Spyro: Sharla, I may not know you that well, but I can tell when you're thinking something. What's on your mind?

Sharla: No, it's too selfish a question. Just a stupid idea I entertained for a moment.

Spyro: If I may ask, what was that "stupid idea"?

Sharla: I was honestly about to ask you if you could go back in time and warn my past self about Colony 6's destruction.

Spyro: I'm... pretty sure I can't do that. At best all I've been able to do is see a few seconds into the future. I've never even tried to touch the past. And to be honest, I don't think it's possible. And that's probably a good thing.

Sharla: (Thinks about that) You're probably right. It could've ended up destroying the world for all we know.

Sharla: Time manipulation? Are you just trying to sound impressive?

Spyro: No, I'm being legit. It's something I can do. It's crazy difficult, but it's something I can honestly do.

Sharla: Color me a bit doubtful, especially considering I have no idea how that would even work.

Spyro: To be honest, I don't know how it works either.

Sharla: But if you could...

Spyro: What is it?

Sharla: Could you have warned Colony 6's defense forces that it was about to be destroyed?

Spyro: I... to be honest, I have no idea. But I don't think I can.

Sharla: (Thinks things through) Now that I think about it? That's probably a good thing. Who knows what could have changed for the worse?

Spyro: So, we can agree to not try that?

Sharla: Agreed.

Spyro: No, I'm being legit. It's something I can do. It's crazy difficult, but it's something I can honestly do.

Spyro: What is it?

Sharla: Don't get your hopes up. You don't even know if this is real or not. You know what? Never mind. It's too hypothetical and weird.

Spyro: (Slightly confused) Okay?

Sharla: Let's just say for now that I'm calling doubt on your whole "time powers" thing.

Spyro: It may be a while before I can prove it's real. It's incredibly taxing.

Sharla: Right...
