Welcome back to the Xenoblade Heart to Hearts series! Today, we enter our next location, one I referenced as a prerequisite for another Heart to Heart probably back near the beginning. We're heading to Makna Forest! As usual, Spyro and Cynder will be starting us off. So let's get into it!
Heart to Heart 47: If Not As We Are

Introduction
Spyro: Finally, some place we can relax.
Cynder: It does seem like we've been in so many life or death situations since we've got here. It's really good to get a moment to think.
Spyro: Speaking of thoughts, there's a question I've been wanting to ask.
Cynder: (A little bit excited, but keeping it in check) What's up?
Spyro: If we weren't the dragons we were today, what do you think we'd be?

Cynder: (Slightly confused) In what respect are we talking about?
Spyro: Any respect. We can each use multiple Elements, but which one were we always meant to have? If the Temple Raid never happened, would we still be the same dragons?
Cynder: (Pondering this) Let's start with the first one. Elementwise, I've always felt comfortable with Wind. So I guess that'd be mine. What about you? I'd guess Fire, since you're so skilled with it.
Spyro: That's the theory people have. Since I unlocked it first, I would have had it had I not been Purple. But personally, I think I'm more in tune with Earth.
Cynder: Strangely, that would've been my second guess. I never figured you for Ice or Electricity.
Spyro: So then, what're your thoughts on the second one? Would we still be the same dragons if the Temple Raid never happened?
Cynder: I know you would. You'd still be the kindest dragon I've ever known. I guess it's me who'd be changing, since I wouldn't have been taken by the Dark Armies.
Spyro: Even then, I think you'd still be the bravest, most sensitive, kindest, most beautiful dragoness I've ever met.
Cynder: (With a blush, or whatever the dragon equivalent is) Thanks, Spyro. Wait, what was that last part?
Spyro: (Realizing he got caught) Nothing!

Cynder: I never pictured you as one for alternate history.
Spyro: It's an interesting question, I think.
Cynder: I can see it. But if I'm honest, I don't think much of us would change. You'd still be the kindest dragon I've ever known.
Spyro: And the same would be true of you.
Cynder: As interesting as a question as it is, it ultimately wouldn't change much about us.
Spyro: Still a good query, I think.
Cynder: Certainly made an interesting discussion.

Cynder: Maybe, but I still don't see the point in it.

Cynder: We can't change the past, so why should we worry about how doing so could change who we are?
Spyro: An interesting thought experiment?
Cynder: I can see it, but I guess I'm just more of a practical thinker.
Spyro: Fair enough.

And that wraps up our first chat in Makna Forest. And here I cover my opinions on several alternate history discussions in the fandom. Cynder would, in my mind, likely be a Wind dragoness. And if Spyro weren't Purple, he'd either be Fire or Earth. Fire is obvious, but I saw a work on DeviantArt once that makes a case for Earth. I've been unable to track down the picture, but I still like the idea that Spyro might have been an Earth dragon. Anyways, who's our first cast chat in the forest? Tune in next time to find out!
