Chapter 9: The Pyramid
Flying towards the pyramid was Klepto who is carrying Leo with his talons.
"Where are you taking me?" Leo ask Klepto who remains silent. The bird reach to the pyramid and the top opens up. When it hovers over, the bird releases Leo. He screams as he falls into the hole of the ancient structure.
Meanwhile, Annie, Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Toadette continue their trek through the desert. Annie refuses to go further until her brother is found. They follow the direction where Klepto took Leo.
"Leo. Why did you sacrifice for me?!" Annie asked.
" I can't believe he would do that." Toadette added.
"Your brother is a tough one, Annie." Luigi said.
"He's more than my brother. He's our leader." Annie said with determination, "I saved him once and I can do it again."
The others look at Annie who has a determination look on her face. She is will to save her brother. No matter what the price.
"We're with you, Annie." Mario said "The pyramid is not far from here.
"I just hope nothing bad happens to Leo" Annie said.
Inside the pyramid, Leo is on the ground before he gets up, groaning. He looks around to see that he is in a chamber. Then a few figures known as Shy Guys surround Leo with spears in hand.
"Who are you?! Where am I?!" Leo asks.
They say nothing before grabbing Leo.
"Hey! Let me go!" He shouted as he struggles to break free from the grasp.
They took him to another area where a table with a wrapping tape along with a crook and flair. Also a crown and a fake beard is placed.
"What is all this?" Leo asks.
The Shy Guys place Leo and the table and they begin to process. Leo is tied down to prevent movement.
"Help!! Annie! Mario!!" He shouted as the Shy Guys started wrapping tape around from his feet. Once the feet are down, they move up to Leo's stomach.
Back outside, Annie and the others journey through a Sandstorm. They struggled to get through due to the high winds and sand blowing in their faces.
"WE SHOULD TURN BACK!!!" Luigi shouted.
"NO! WE'RE GETTING CLOSER! THEY FLEW IN A STRAIGHT LINE!" Annie yelled back.
They continue until they finally exit the storm. There they finally made to the site of the Pyramid.
"There it is. The Pyramid." Mario said.
Toad looks before seeing something on the ground before picking it up.
"What's this?" He asks.
Annie turns to Toad before gasping. In his hand is Leo's baton.
"That's Leo's baton! He must have dropped it." Annie said.
"He's gotta be inside." Toad said.
"Then let's go!" Annie said taking the Baton before rushing.
"Annie, wait!" Mario said grabbing her.
"There danger both outside and inside." He warned her, referring to the quicksand and the Tox Boxes.
"Leo is in there and I will get him out!" Annie said before seeing a Item Block. She jumps and hits the box and out comes a Blue Shell. She absorbs its power and has a new power up.
"If you're going in then count us in." Mario said as he tags along.
"I'm in!" Toad said.
"Me too!" Toadette said in agreement.
"Well, I'll stay out here in case there's trouble." Luigi said.
"You're going rather you like it or not!" Mario said as he grabs his brother and throws him through the entrance of the Pyramid. Soon the others follow and they make their way through the interior of the ancient structure.
Annie turns on Leo's baton and uses it as a light when they reach to the center area.
"Leo!!" Annie shouted, leaving an echo.
"Annie!!" Shouted Leo's voice.
"This way!" Mario said as he leads the others down the path over a huge hole leading to the chamber. The wrapping is complete,
When they arrived, Annie gasps to see the Shy Guys with a now wrapped up Leo as they begin chanting.
"What are they doing?!" Annie shouted before Mario sushes her.
"Looks like they are doing something. Like they're calling." He said.
The Shy Guys chant faster before a loud roar was heard. Then rumbling is heard and felt around the chamber.
"What's going on?!" Toad asks.
Then to the group's horror, a giant worm shaped creature, covered with worned tape emerges. Leo couldn't see due to the tape, but he can hear.
"Mmmph!" Leo shouted but his mouth is taped up and what's worse, he can't move. His entire body is taped up.
Annie sees the giant worm and Leo before realizing...
"He's gotta eat my brother!!" She exclaimed.
The mummified worm opens its beak and prepares to devour Leo when suddenly.
"NOOOO!!!"
The Shy Guys and the worm turn to see Annie charging in before curling in the blue shell and she speeds towards the worm. The Shy Guys turn around to see the Blue Shell pass them and strikes the worm in the head. It roars in pain before recoiling back. The shell lands in front of Leo before popping. Annie turns and sees the Shy Guys charging at her.
"I'll protect you, Leo." Annie said to her big brother. She charges in and uses the skills she had been taught by the Mario bros to defeat the bad guys. Mario and the others were amazed by the young girl as she defeats the enemies one by one before turning to the worm. It roars at her who does not flinch. Annie rushes toeo and grabs him before making a run for it. It spits a rock but Mario jumps and strikes it back in the head. It roars before shooting at the ceiling. All of a sudden, the ceiling begins to crumble.
"We gotta get out here!" Luigi said.
"Let's go!" Annie shouted.
The group makes their way out as the building begins to collapse. They rush through the hallway when they finally made it out. They look as the pyramid finally comes crashing down before it begins sinking into the ground.
The heroes settle down before they turn to Annie who is unwrapping Leo. The tape unwrapps and Leo finally breathes.
"Ugh. Finally! It's hard for me to breathe in there." He said.
"Leo...!" Annie tightly embraces him "why why did you do that?! You could have gotten yourself hurt or worse!"
"From now on, we stay together. We can't get separated and we're waisting time. Your friends and the princess can't wait." Mario said.
"You know what? You're right. Quincy, June, and Rocket can't wait. We have to keep moving." Leo said.
The group continues on and they reach to the flag pole and they change it before they jump in the green pipe and they move on the next area.
Meanwhile at Bowser's castle, yelling was heard as Yellow is on a medical bed being treated from burn injuries.
"Ow! That girl! I can't believe she would have wield that fire flower. I wasn't even ready for it!" Yellow said as he is being treated.
"Dude, that girl. Who is she?!" Red asks.
"Then you knuckleheads should train harder. They have beaten you once, but you will be ready this time." Bowser said.
