Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Shadows of the Force. Enjoy the 1700-word chapter. I don't own RWBY and Star Wars. Monty Oum, Lucas Films, and Rooster Teeth do.
(Beacon, Vale, Remnant 9:40AM)
"Your assignment will be quite simple," Ozpin said, looking over the others around him. "Simply fight for 30 minutes. You may use as much excessive force as you require… But I do urge you not to damage the landscape too harshly." Ozpin added as he looked at Lerek and the others who stood upon the pressure pads.
With a single button press by Glynda, the group was sent flying off into the air. Glynda turned to Ozpin, clutching her scroll in her hands.
"Was there any particular reason you chose to have Ms. Belladonna befriend our guest?" Glynda questioned as Ozpin took a sip of his tea.
"I've heard from a possible ally that Mr. Zun is similar to her," Ozpin stated while looking at Glynda's scroll. "Plus, there are many pieces to this puzzle. I must confer with our friend anyway." Ozpin added while he turned and walked back towards Beacon, drawing his scroll from his pocket.
(With RWBY and Lerek)
While RWBY tried to stay together? It was quite clear they'd land in different parts of the forest. Ruby spun her scythe to throw herself into a clearing as Yang and Weiss flew ahead with their weapons.
Blake watched as Lerek flipped in midair, seeming to defy gravity itself as he smashed into a tree branch. The Arkanian looked at Blake who drew Gambol Shroud and transformed it into its kusarigama form. She flung the ribbon towards a tree and spun into a flip onto the ground.
"You sure you're not a Jedi?" Lerek asked, leaping down to land in a crouch. "Nobody could make a landing like that without good reflexes," Lerek added while he hummed and brushed off his cloak.
"You did without even trying to stop falling," Blake responded as Lerek shrugged.
"Jedi survive leaps like that all the time," Lerek said before hearing a growl which made him lower his hand to his belt.
Blake transformed her weapon back into its sword form as Lerek hummed and watched a wolf-like beast emerge. The creature's crimson red eyes seemed to stare into him.
"Beowolf." Blake put in as Lerek hummed and turned to her with interest. "Grimm, that's what Ozpin told you about," Blake added while Lerek blinked.
"Looks like a Gundark with fur," Lerek said, gaining a raised eyebrow from Blake. "I'll explain later. You said they are drawn to negative emotions or something." Lerek stated while he cracked his fingers.
The Beowolf turned to look at them with contempt shining in its soulless eyes. Lerek took a combat stance and turned to Blake.
"You a good fighter?" Lerek questioned before the Beowolf let out a hellish howl.
Lerek watched as several other Beowolves emerged from the trees. Lerek hummed and prepared to battle before Blake darted forward.
"Reminds me of me as a padawan," Lerek said with a chuckle before rushing forward as well.
Blake leaped over the first Beowolf, vaulting off its shoulder and sending it into Lerek. She watched as Lerek cut it clean in half horizontally, his blade parting the creature like butter.
Blake landed and brought up the sheath of her weapon, blocking the paw of one of the Beowolves. She stabbed her weapon through her armpit, impaling the creature before firing a shot, blowing the next Grimm's brain apart.
Lerek slid under one of the Beowolves, parting its hand from its arm. He then flipped into the air, kicking the next one in the face before throwing his lightsaber into the first Beowolf. Lerek then thrust an arm forward, throwing the second Beowolf into a tree and shattering it.
Blake watched him retrieve his lightsaber and decapitate the first Beowolf. He then turned and held up his hand.
Blake watched as the next Beowolf that went to leap at her paused before Blake hummed and dashed towards Lerek.
Lerek paused and dropped the Beowolf as Blake leaped off his shoulder, stabbing a Beowolf behind him. She turned to see Lerek impale the final one at the same time.
"Nice work," Blake said as Lerek warmly smirked.
"Same for you," Lerek said, returning his lightsaber to his belt and extinguishing it. "You'd make a hell of a Jedi if you were one… So, you were saying about these things being evil monsters?" Lerek questioned as Blake nodded.
"You also mentioned a dark side to this 'force'," Blake said as the duo began their walk into the forest.
"Jedi are supposed to control their emotions. No grief, no sadness, no hatred." Lerek said and hummed. "Strong emotions are supposed to lead to the dark side. Jedi like me fight people who use the dark side and feed off the suffering, rage, despair of the galaxy… Makes the Grimm sound similar to the Sith." Lerek added and crossed his arms.
"Yes," Blake said, returning Gambol Shroud to its sheath. "It doesn't sound that normal to live without emotions," Blake added as she crossed her arms.
"Not all Jedi are like that," Lerek said, closing his eyes as he did so. "I'm emotional at times. That's part of being in a war, there's a legendary Jedi who can be a little hotheaded. I don't think having emotions is a weakness… Just can't let them control you." Lerek added while the duo continued their walk.
"Next question… What is a Gundark?" Blake questioned as Lerek chuckled to himself.
"Think of a Beowolf with dark red skin, 4 arms, 16 claws, and it walks on all 4 limbs," Lerek said, moving his cloak to the side. "Very good sense of hearing, one I met was strong enough to throw boulders. So, all Grimm like that one? Because I have a feeling 'Grimm' is referring to more than one." Lerek said before a bird-like caw caused him to look up.
Blake and Lerek watched a massive bird-like Grimm fly overhead, trees shaking in its wake. Lerek blinked and hummed.
"Oh, they come in extra sizes like that. Fun, can't wait to meet the rest of them." Lerek stated while crossing his arms under his cloak. "Where do you think your friends landed?" Lerek questioned and cracked his fingers.
The sounds of gunfire and dozens of howls caught his attention. They started to rush towards the sounds of combat. Blake and Lerek easily kept up with each other, their strides matching quite clearly.
"Hmm…" Lerek started to say before an inhuman roar caused him to throw himself and Blake to the side.
Lerek watched another creature that looked like a bear with a skull-like bone covering its head. The creature was stocky but looked sturdy enough to fight a walker. He quickly drew his lightsaber and shot forward like a blaster bolt.
"Great, Grimm," Lerek muttered, meeting the Grimm's charge head-on.
He reached into the force, throwing the Grimm into the air where he quickly severed its arm. His lightsaber slashed through bone and fur as if it was plasteel. The Grimm bellowed in agony before it turned to Lerek as he spun to face it.
"C'mon fuzzball," Lerek stated while spinning his lightsaber through his fingers. "Unless you're scared." Lerek taunted and closed his eyes.
The Grimm rushed at the Arkanian, blind rage cutting straight into its animalistic mind. Lerek hummed and calmly waited for a moment.
A second later he felt hot breath millimeters from his face. He acted on training and training alone.
Blake watched as Lerek sidestepped the Grimm's charge, turning and tossing his lightsaber which spun like a buzzsaw. The weapon hummed with energy as it cut right through the creature's back and out its front. It was as familiar as when she killed one to save Yang.
"Do they teach you how to beat Grimm at Beacon?" Lerek asked as the weapon returned to his hand. "Because I seem to be getting the hang of this," Lerek stated while he turned and watched the remains of the Grimm dissolve into smoke.
He questioned if these monsters were creations of the dark side. He was not as known, Ruzul was the one who spent the most time as a 'proper' Jedi between the duos.
"Don't get cocky," Blake said as Lerek nodded. "But yes… That was good, I thought you wanted it to hit you." Blake added while Lerek rolled his eyes.
"Yes, my master plan was to get mauled by a teddy bear," Lerek responded as he returned the weapon on his belt.
Blake smacked his arm which got a chuckle from the Arkanian who smiled warmly at her.
"You're a very good warrior yourself," Lerek stated while casting a second glance at the smoke. "Whoever trained you would be proud," Lerek added while he hummed and started to walk.
He turned to see Blake frown, a look of pain and suffering stretched across her features. He realized that he had either touched a VERY raw nerve, or she hadn't been very formal with said person.
"I'm sorry," Lerek said, a professional tone overtaking his voice. "You're a gifted fighter, even if I snark and sound not at all serious? I mean it. I am glad to be fighting with someone talented." Lerek stated as he paused to allow his words to carry weight.
Blake stayed silent as she walked past him. Lerek cursed silently.
"Great going, Zun…. Shot my damn mouth off." Lerek stated and sighed and looked at the side. "I hate this. I ruined it before I even got through one day." Lerek added to himself as he slowly started to walk ahead at the moment.
He hoped he could repair that bridge, even if he didn't mean to burn it.
