AN: Hey guys welcome to Chapter 1 of Misplaced in Time. Again I did this because I felt like writing it and I just want to take a break from other works. Enjoy.
Twilight laid on some cushions in the library of her castle. It wasn't as grand as Canterlot's library or even the archives but it was bigger than her previous library house. She studied over books and flipped through pages looking for a spell she had wanted to revisit.
Soon, Sunset Shimmer walked in and flicked Twilight's flank with her tail. Twilight shrieked and looked at Sunset. "You really need to stop doing that," she giggled. Sunset smirked and said, "Only if your flank stops teasing me." Twilight rolled her eyes and went back to her books. "What are you looking for," Sunset asked laying next to Twilight. She looked up from her books and said, "I'm trying to find a spell similar to the time scroll from my duel with Starlight Glimmer."
Sunset raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why in Equestira would you do that?" Twilight thought about the question and answered, "I thought it'd be interesting to see Starswirl perform magic, maybe the coronation of Celestia, or maybe the founding of Ponyville." Sunset smiled and rubbed Twilights head and said, "Well let's get started. Surely my gift for magic and your alicorn power can sort something."
The two got to work. Reading on time spells and how much magic would be needed to displace it in order for travel to be possible. Book after book, scroll after scroll, they put effort into finding a spell strong enough to displace time. After hours of searching Sunset laid back holding her head. "I feel like I'm back at Canterlot High cramming for an exam," she groaned.
"No wonder my human self was a better student," Twilight joked. Sunset sat up and said, "I don't think we're going to find something as powerful as that scroll Princess. Especially after you destroyed it." Twilight sighed in defeat knowing that Sunset was right. But there had to be a way. Then she remembered, "There's a spell in the Canterlot archives. It allowed me to travel back in time once before but only for a short time. I'm thinking that maybe if we can somehow boost its potential we can travel further for longer."
Sunset looked at her in annoyance, "You couldn't have mentioned it sooner?" Twilight blushed and said, "I'm sorry, let me send a letter to Celestia and I'll buy us lunch." Sunset's mood already improved, it always did when food was mentioned. Twilight called for Spike. "Yes Twilight," he asked. "I would like for you to take a letter," she said smiling. "Alright," said Spike joyously. It had been a while since Twilight sent a letter to Celestia. He grabbed a quill and parchment and said, "Ready." Twilight smiled and said, "Dear Princess Celestia. I would like to request that Sunset Shimmer and I borrow a scroll that allows the user to travel back in time for a short moment. This is to see if I am able to adapt and improve spells for the better as well as get a better understanding of Equestria's history. Your Faithful Student Twilight Sparkle." Spike finished and said, "That's it." He blew his green flame onto the parchment and it caught fire and trailed off to Canterlot. "Now we wait," said Twilight.
The two mares and Spike made their way to Sugarcube Corner with a saddlebag of books. They took a seat at one of the tables and Sunset lifted out a book. They found that this particular book was the best source of information for time displacement. Pinkie bounced over and asked, "What will it be today ladies and Spike." Twilight and Sunset gave their orders while Spike settled for a juice he had brought with.
"I wonder how long it's gonna take Celestia to reply," Sunset asked sipping her milkshake. Twilight shrugged as she flipped pages of the book. *burp* Twilight and Sunset looked at Spike with faces of slight annoyance. Spike blushed and said, "Sorry. These came for you Twilight." He handed her the scrolls. Twilight rolled her eyes with a smile and said, "Thank you Spike. Here take some bits and buy yourself a new comic." Spike hugged Twilight and said, "Thanks Twi, you're the best." He took the bits and ran off to the comic store. "He's adorable, in an annoying little brother kind of way, you know," Sunset said smirking. Twilight chuckled and said, "He is after all a baby dragon."
Twilight unrolled the first scroll and saw it was the time scroll. She took the second one and read, My dearest Twilight, I want to caution you on the implications of this spell if not done properly. However, your ability to be level headed in stressful situations will assist you in making the correct decision. Luckily Sunset will always be by your side. Good luck to the both of you. Princess Celestia.
Twilight smiled at the spell and said, "Now we just need to get it working. Did you find anything in the book that will help?" Sunset swallowed some food and said, "It says here, that Time Runes would be the best. Runic magic existed before traditional magic like ours and it might be that extra boost we need." Suddenly Pinkie dropped a book onto the table and said in her granny voice, "Don't ya be worryin' young ones. Ole Pinkie Pie found this here."
Twilight opened the old book and saw ancient runes. She looked at her friend and asked, "Where did you get this?" Pinkie frowned and asked, "Twilight, you've met me right?" Twilight chuckled nervously. Pinkie smiled, chuckled and left the two mares the bill and bounced off to the kitchen. Twilight paid for the lunch and they left to her castle.
Once they arrived in the library Twilight brought out a book to translate the ancient runes and Sunset placed the scroll onto the ground and copied the runes onto the floor space in chalk around the scroll. "I think we did it," said Twilight. "Yeah I think we did," said Sunset. Twilight looked at the scroll and the runes and said, "All that's left is to use my magic." Sunset put a hoof on her shoulder and asked, "What if it doesn't work." Twilight smiled reassuringly at her and said, "Then we'll try again."
"So where to," Twilight asked. Sunset thought and said, "Maybe we should see the coronation of Celestia. I think it's a good stepping stone, in case we get stuck, we'll have help." They took chalk and drew a circle around the runes that symbolized time and space. Twilight levitated the scroll and began to cast her magic while Sunset cast her magic on the time runes. The wind blew as their magic began to influence time and space.
Sunset and Twilight began to levitate. The castle began to shake and a hole opened above the two ponies. "It's working Twilight," said Sunset. Twilight looked above her and saw the hole. "We've done it!" Suddenly there were sparks erupting from the scroll. Then there were lightning strikes on the runes. "What's happening," Sunset asked. Twilight looked around and said, "I don't know." Suddenly they were sucked into the hole with the scroll and the hole closed with a strike of lightning.
The two ponies were falling from the sky. Twilight stretched out her wings and began to fly. She caught Sunset and lowered her gently. They landed on the ground and looked around. "Where are we," Sunset asked. "It looks like Ponyville but different," said Twilight. It did look like Ponyville but most of the buildings were either run down or closed. Twilight didn't see her castle anywhere or Dash's house and Carousel Boutique was worn and closed and so was the spa. Twilight looked around and saw nopony in any of the establishments. "This is weird," she said.
Suddenly there were Pegasi ponies landing. Twilight and Sunset made their way into an abandoned house and stayed there. The Pegasi were searching for something or somepony. "Keep looking. The disturbance came from here," said a pony in a face mask distorting his voice as steamed exhaled from side vents on the mask. Twilight peered through the cracked wall. She saw ponies dressed in silver and white armour. They were led by a tall stallion in black armour and he wore the face mask which she heard the distorted voice from. He had a scar over his right eye and he seemed to have glowing red eyes.
He stomped the ground and the lights of the Ponyville properties lit up and ponies began to flow from them. Twilight also saw abandoned buildings remain dark. She and Sunset remained in the house as nopony came out of it. Twilight peered out the boarded up window and saw ponies lined up in front of the black armoured Pegasus. He looked at the crowd and said, "There was a magical discharge from here that was too powerful to be from any unicorn, not to mention that it's beyond curfew. Need I mention that the Princess was awoken. Does anypony know who it was?" He looked around at the terrified faces, none of which dared speak, and said, "Not one of you know? How unfortunate."
He lifted his hoof and stamped the ground again and it cracked. Twilight had never seen such power, except from one pony. She backed away and a floorboard creaked. The stallion's ears twitched at the sound and he turned his head to the side and looked at the window. Twilight saw him walk over to the boarded up window and she was pulled by her tail into a closet where Sunset was hiding. Twilight peered around the door frame and saw the glowing red eyes searching. He pressed his hoof against the boards and they went flying across the room and landed in a heap. Twilight hid behind the door frame praying to Celestia that the shadows hid her. She heard the hoof steps on the wooden floor. She pressed herself against the wall and Sunset did the same on the opposite side. They had managed to close the door enough to leave a small crack open.
The pony looked around the house looking for the source of the mysterious sound. His eyes glowed like the embers of a fire. He turned towards the closet and walked towards it. Twilight and Sunset held their hooves over their mouths and snouts to stifle their breathing as their hearts beat quickly. The hoofsteps came closer to their hiding spot. He reached for the door handle *beep…beep…beep*He looked at his wrist, sighed and said, "Must've been a rat." He jumped back outside the window and said, "Return to your homes. Soldiers will arrive in the morning to investigate."
The ponies all returned to their homes for the remainder of the night. "Commander what shall we do now," asked a soldier. The black armoured pony looked at the soldier and said, "Return to Canterlot. The Princess will want a report." The soldiers all flew back to Canterlot. The Commander looked at the abandoned house he had come from. His mask exhaled steam. He kneeled down and took off from the town sending a powerful shockwave.
Twilight and Sunset emerged from the closet and saw the open window. Twilight placed the boards onto the window again and said, "That was terrifying." Sunset nodded and said, "I have never felt that type of fear in my life before. It was worse than being controlled by my demon." "Did you see the control he had," asked Twilight. Sunset nodded and said, "That wasn't control. That was fear." Twilight was searching for blankets.
She found one and said, "Looks like we'll be sharing tonight." Sunset walked over and said, "Twilight we always share." She winked and laid next to Twilight, who blushed and smirked, as she pulled the blanket over the two of them. "Let's hope we can figure out something tomorrow," said Twilight. The two mares drifted to sleep. Twilight could only hope that tomorrow would be better.
A/N: So that's all for chapter 1 will see you in the next chapter.
