Leilani had spent days just sitting in the airship. She had even told the pilot to fly around just to see if anything had been a lie. If they would get attacked or if they would get called back or anything.
For the most part she didn't do anything more than watch. She layed on the super soft gigantic bed. She stared at the toddler sized motorcycle that she had found in the middle of the room when she first entered it. She had been mesmerised by the kitchen.
She had spent hours just sitting in the shower, not even having it on. She had spent days watching Oodako play in the huge tank.
It took over three months until she realised that it wasn't a dream. She had woken up and proceeded to mechanically shove the simple breakfast in her mouth she prepared when she accidentally bit down on her tongue. Cursing out loudly just to fall off her chair and in the end stub her toe when she tried to stand up.
She lied there, the pain still ringing in her when she realised this was real. This was hers. This was her life now. She didn't have to go back to the forest. She didn't have to starve and she didn't need to freeze. She had a home. An actual home. Something that was hers where she could live.
Leilani had started to cry. Relief washed over her in waves, shaking her so much she was sobbing out so hard she struggled to breath. She had kept on crying for hours only to crawl back into her bed again. Just repeatedly stroking over the soft fluffy and warm blanket she had. This was hers.
The crying had made her fall asleep after hours and when she woke up she was still teary eyed but she started the day with a huge smile.
She hummed the whole day, practically dancing and she had even jumped on her bed. Just because.
It was her bed! Her mattress! Her bed!
It was hers and she had one! She finally had one and no one could take it from her!
She didn't step outside of the airship for months. The pilot the Carcassa had given her was aiding her in anything she wished for. He took care of the shopping and maintenance of the airship.
After the first three months she even started to talk with him. Chatting over whatever she could come up with and she enjoyed it! She could talk to someone and Tommaso was nice!
It was five months into her stay when she started to learn how to navigate the airship herself. Her first trip she did herself was to visit the Carcassa and again nothing went wrong!
It took a few more months until she got the hang of everything and when she decided that she wanted to go off on her own.
She liked the Carcassa way more than she would be willing to admit. They didn't even seem to be actual mafiosi, not like she had ever imagined them. They were just plain nice people and they liked her! But still she kinda had gotten used to being on her own and in some way she just had the need to not constantly have someone around her.
She visited them way more often than she was supposed to but for the first time since the circus she was truly happy again. She loved it. She loved going wherever she wanted without suffering for it. She loved her airship! Her new life.
After ten months of her new lifestyle she got the first letter. It got handed to her at her latest visit to the carcassa and it included a formal invitation to an Arcobaleno meeting two months from now. She even recognized Lal's handwriting.
She wasn't sure if she wanted to go but she took the letter with her.
Sure, all of this was thanks to them but at the same time… they had betrayed her. She really wasn't sure what to think about them anymore. It was conflicting. More than just that. What was she actually supposed to do?
She wasn't sure if she could forget it but they still had helped her. Weren't they trying to redeem themself?
Furthermore they had kept their promise. Fon and Reborn both. Verde had even made her the motorcycle and because of the note on it she knew that it hadn't been ordered by the Carcassa for her.
Still lingering feelings were battling her in conflict. She had got rid of her rage long ago but… she didn't trust them, not fully, Not ever. not even after they managed to arrange this for her..
It just… it had cut deep. Insanely deep. While it had been Luce and Checkerface who actually did the betrayal and the curse and who had lied… they still let it happen.
It was conflicting and Leilani wasn't really sure what the right thing to do was.
She should thank them, right? But at the same time she didn't want to. They did something for her but… it didn't undo the past.
In the end she had placed the invitation on her table, a constant reminder but she wouldn't allow it to slip her mind. She had to decide, no matter how frustrating this was.
She really wished to have her friend with her. What would they say? Hermione would probably tell her to go because it was the right thing to do and Ron? Ron would have probably said that she should ignore them… and then the two of them would have argued for hours over who was in the right. Hermione would have won, obviously and she would have thrown it at his head that Ron had left Leilani too when he didn't believe her over the tournament and that Leilani had still accepted him back.
She had to snicker as she played the whole argument in her mind only to sober up. Her friends weren't here, she wouldn't see them again.
What was the right thing to do then? Follow what Hermione would have told her to or stay away for the plain reason that Luce had robbed her the hope of ever seeing them again.
Leilani didn't decide until three days before the meeting. Honestly, when had she ever been afraid to face someone headon? She had never been frozen by fear. She had always done what she thought was right even while it scared her. She didn't need to stay long. She could just jump in there thank Reborn and just vanish again and then she would be done. She wouldn't have to see them again and she could forget about them and go back to living her own life.
Sure not all of them were bad… especially Colonnello wasn't at fault for any of this and even Lal was somehow nice… Reborn had been fun to tease but infuriating at the same time. Fon was calm… he always had seemed so reliable and Verde was a nerd. A bookworm… he reminded her of home, of spending hours in the library while Hermione had given them unreasonable study guides. She would bet that Verde, same as Hermione, would have answers to anything you could ask and if you were willing to get a whole lecture instead of a short compromised yes or no answer.
That viper had never said anything should have been obvious… the miser had never really done anything for free but the way they had bobbed their head in silent happyness whenever Leilani had made them strawberry milk had been almost endearing.
Thinking about it hurt, she had liked them. Everyone in their own way but then it happened and it left scars.
She didn't want them in her life, not really, not fully. She wasn't sure. Maybe a little bit but at the same time she was completely against it. They had kept Luce's lie… and now they had helped her start a new life.
Leilani groaned out frustratedly burying herself under her pillow.
Why could decisions never be easy?
Dumbledore would have told her to forgive them and Sirius… Sirius would have told her to pay them back. Same as the twins who would have offered her another prank jinx or even one of their creations.
She immediately darted up. This was it! No one had said she needed to be pleasant or to even act like Leilani. Honestly Reborn had told her the same, didn't he?
He said she didn't have to be nice to the Carcassa, that she should just go and that is what mattered. That she could even leave whenever she wanted.
She would follow his words! She could do that! She 100% was able to do that. She could be a pain in the butt. She definitely could. She had always been good at that. She could thank them obnoxiously and she would have done it! She laughed out loud, jumping slightly on the bed as she darted over to get off the airship. She had to prepare and not much time after all!
