Fin waited at the reception of a droid repairing building. He was there to find a golden humanoid droid, a protocol droid to be exact.
It did not take a while for the droid to walk into the reception lobby where the Jedi was waiting for it to arrive and begin its strange walk out of the building's front door.
The Jedi got up from the chair he was sitting on and followed the droid.
The droid stopped before the entrance and made an exhale sound.
Different aliens passed him by on the small busy street.
"Where on this crowded planet am I going to find Master Luke now?... I shouldn't have argued with that monstrous creature in the first place." the droid criticized himself, but little did he know the answer was just behind him.
"C3PO?" Fin asked the droid.
"Yes, that's me." The droid seemed to be startled and slowly turned around to face Fin.
"Oh my, who might you be Master Jedi?" droid asked.
"I'm no Master, but I am a Jedi. Name's Fin." He introduced himself and attempted to pick him up.
He struggled to put the humanoid droid over his shoulder, but he used the Force to keep the droid light weighted.
"On no I'm being kidnapped, somebody help!" The droid screamed.
Fin was glad nobody would stop him, otherwise the owner of this droid would be waiting a whole day for the droid to walk that distance.
"I'm not kidnapping you, I'm just making our journeys go faster."
"Where to Jedi Fin?" The droid was still in distress.
"I believe the Princess explained to you that you will be joining a group of agents on some mission." He hoped he will refresh his memory.
"Oh, yes now I remember… I'm sorry for panicking… Greetings agent Fin." The droid apologized and the Jedi only exhaled.
"Call me Fin." He told the droid feeling angry.
"Yes sir." The droid was getting a little annoying, but he will endure this small walk through the streets of Republic City, the Galactic capital of the New Republic on Hosnian Prime.
Eventually the two made it to the nearest landing area where the orange black light freighter waited for them.
He put the droid down "Well, C3PO welcome on board the Orange Line." He walked to the ramp at the back end of the ship, the droid followed.
As the two came onboard "Poe, we are free to go!" He shouted through the freighter's hallway.
In a moment the engines roared and the uplift generators provided flight conditions for the ramp to be retracted and closed.
The protocol droid mentioned "Oh, a light freighter, similar in design of General Hera Syndulla."
Fin got annoyed of constantly hearing and being surrounded with famous people, he meant no offense to the man that was currently on board with them. The man asked to be dropped at the Kuat Drive yards, for whatever reasons he had.
Thinking of Kuat, it reminded him of Rey "How is she doing?" he asked himself as he walked out of the cargo bay and among his crew.
Rey's point of view
She was working upon an escape pod with her teacher at noon, until one of the guards came walking in.
He asked for her attention and a few minutes of private time.
Her teacher allowed and so she dropped her tools and walked with this man out of the mechanic room and down the hallway.
It wasn't long until he gave her some earbuds and asked her to put them in as she will get a hologram message to listen to.
She checked the Force if it was warning her of any danger. She will not be deceived again.
There was no deceit detected, this man was just a messenger who carried a travelers' back pack and a holo-projector in his hand.
She accepted the ear buds and put them in. Rey received the com device in her hands. Upon contact with her bare skin it activated itself and displayed an image of Ahsoka walking somewhere in a hurry.
"Hello Rey, Ahsoka here. I'm calling you because I have received a word from the higher ups that you will be working as a mechanic from today onwards on a starship among Leia's agents …"
Today? What?
What's going on?
Leia? A familiar name, where did she heard this name before?
She can't remember, at least not in time before Ahsokas' message began speaking again.
"Pick up all your things, you are going on a long mission with them. They will come pick you up at the 28th hanger bay at the Kuat Drive yards after lunch, today." The older female put a big emphasis upon the last word.
"I know you despise me for not training you in the Force, but…, may the Force be with you wherever you are travelling to… Ahsoka out." And the message ended.
She could barely comprehend what she just heard.
Is she going on a mission? With agents?
Her mind began to understand what she just heard.
"Yes I am." She whispered to herself with a badly contained joy. She smiled before she fell on the floor with her knees and shouted a loud "Yes!" down the hallway.
A few mechanics turned her way and the messenger got startled.
"I'm sorry." She apologized to the guard next to her before she began to wave her hand at other mechanics to pay attention to someone else.
Rey could not believe it.
She was excited
She is going on a mission; she is going on adventure.
- a few hours later-
She stood in the 28th hanger. With her arms crossed at her chest. The young mechanic was looking at space beyond the hanger doors' energy shield.
What did Ahsoka mean by higher ups?
Was it the Jedi Order or one of the Republics' political leaders?
The girl wondered as she stood still in the middle of the almost empty hanger, a grey painted X wing parked on her right was the only other thing in the hanger bedside herself and the three bags by her feet.
Two bags were hers, one filled with her clothes, the other with her items; such as the foldable metal staff, the small box full of credits she managed to save during her apprenticeship, the Jedi book she has stored in the bag from Jakku and the box full of her own mechanic tools.
The third bag was given to her by that messenger as she gave him back the com device and earbuds. He told her to give it to one of the agents on board the Freighter, apparently someone forgot their luggage at home.
Interesting… Though it will be interesting how she will conduct herself before the new crew.
The girl made herself nervous.
Will she be even a good mechanic for this crew? Will their journeys take the ship to its' limits resulting in her needing to repair their ship often? Will she manage it?
"No, you need to say focused." She whispered as she remembered her Mechanic teacher giving her this advice before leaving him.
Pay attention to your surroundings and keep fighting your fear.
The guard, her combat instructor gave her this advice as she managed to find him before having lunch.
She decided to walk her nervousness off.
The X wing in the room seemed the only interesting thing to occupy her mind with, so she began walking towards it.
She stopped two meters away, had put her hands behind her back and began observing it, walking around it.
The eyes of a mechanic looking sharply for any imperfections, dents, scratches and paint loss.
It had a relatively new all grey paint on its' hull, around 2 years. This Starfighter was not used actively for some time as she saw the exhaust gathered dust on it.
The longer she looked at it the longer it seemed familiar to her.
But from where?
Silence followed for a few seconds until it clicked.
It was the same one, she and Fin managed to escape in a year ago.
Rey was surprised.
"No way… I always wondered where it went to." She whispered to herself with a smile on her face.
Wondering why it was here rotting away and not being used.
The sound of running engines startled her.
It is a Freighter that just entered the hanger bay and it was turning around for its back end to face her.
The ramp of the ship opened as it touched down with its' landing gear.
Two robed men stood at the entrance of the ship, she noticed both had a familiar Force signature.
She ran towards her bags and decided to act as if she was present at that spot the whole time.
The gas from the lowering ramp was still up in the air and so visibility was low enough for her to not make out the faces.
But the Force signatures were so familiar, one of them she knew by heart.
"No way." She became speechless as she recognized Fin in the smoke.
"Rey." Fin ran to her, picked her up with a bear hug and spun her around.
The fast rotation of the spin made her dizzy, but that was ok. She was happy to see Fin again.
He let her down and let go of the hug.
"Hello." She hugged him back instantly. Her face dug into his chest, savoring the smell of her friend.
She let go of the hug to see who was the other robed figure and it made her joyfulness stop.
It was the same Jedi that didn't even leave a thank you note for her hardworking mechanic colleagues.
"You!" she shouted, her shock made her backed away from her now confused friend.
"Rey, what's going on?" Fin was concerned.
"Ungrateful fuck." she called the unnamed Jedi, her anger beginning to rise.
Fins' eyes budged as he heard her swear at the Jedi Master.
"Rey, why are you angry?" Fin tied to get a hold of her hands, trying to calm her down.
"This guy had his X wing repaired yesterday. The mechanics worked all night to fix his ship.
Where is it now?" her words were still angry as the Jedi Master calmly walked down the ramp, seemingly ignoring her.
He walked towards the X wing she inspected before and his blue white droid followed its' master.
The Jedi lifted his astromech with the Force and placed it into the droid socket of the X wing.
He then used the Force to jump on its' hull and opened the cockpit.
The middle aged man sat in and it seemed as if something just hit him emotionally.
He became numb as he stared at the controls.
The droid beeped behind him.
"Yes, R2 I'm fine." He answered his droid "just… give me a second." His voice sounded tired.
Sadness and anger began to rose within the Jedi.
But emotions did not consume him as she feared it would.
Soon enough disappointment came rushing in, in that whirlwind of his emotions, yet the Light side was still there.
She was impressed, yet still angry.
The longer she looked at the man the longer his face reminded her of an emotion she tried to be as far away as possible.
Is he grieving?
Her anger began so cease, she knew how it felt like to lose someone.
Empathy came over her.
She began to regret her impulsive behavior.
"I-I'm sorry." She apologized to the Jedi Master. Feeling ashamed of herself.
"Thank you." The man said and turned to Fin.
He began to turn on the X wing.
Fin looked worried "Master Luke, is the problem because the X wing was in the hands of the Sith?... Did they taint it with the dark side?"
Luke? Another familiar name, yet once again she didn't know where she heard it.
So the man goes by Luke, interesting.
"No Fin, that is not the problem… I just have some unfinished business to take care of." He turned from Fin to Rey with new determined eyes.
"You, kid, control your temper and impulses… and trust in the Force." He was serious.
The Jedi turned back to Fin.
"Fin, this friend of yours is the last member of the crew you will need for your mission and may the Force be with you, both of you and your crew." He closed the cockpit and flew the X wing out of the hanger.
Rey was hit in her shoulder by a not so friendly fist.
"Aw, why did you hit me!?" Rey was confused, her friend just hit her.
Fin stepped before her and put his hands on her shoulders "Do you have a slightest idea of who that was?" he shook her back and forth while staring at her.
"No, he never told me." The young mechanic was honest.
He sucked his lips in, eyebrows raised.
"Oh…" he let go of her shoulders and put his hands on his head, crossing his fingers. "My…" His mouth dropped and he turned around. He began walking in circles.
"Luke, the Jedi Master." She tried to make sense where she heard that name before.
"Luke Skywalker, the Grand Master of the new Jedi Order…!" He shouted and corrected her.
It took her a second to process his shouting words.
Her mouth dropped.
"No…" She began to giggle as she covered her mouth "No…"
There was silence for a moment, she didn't want to believe, but…
But it happened.
She gave him food, a place to sleep and spent a whole night in the same room as him.
What an honor.
"Holy shit." her mind was in shock.
"And you shouted at him." Fin was ashamed.
"At least I managed to apologize, before he left." She stood her ground.
A clearance of a throat grabbed both their attentions.
There stood a man and a woman by the entrance of the freighter.
"I see you two are getting along." The man said sarcastically, his arms crossed.
Fin was reminded he is not alone. "Right… Rey, meet Poe and Rose. Poe and Rose, meet Rey." He introduced the crew to his friend and vice versa.
"Hi, I'm the mechanic." She rose her hand and smiled.
She was glad Fin will be with her.
A few seconds of awkward silence followed, Rey decided to use this opportunity to grab her bags and carry them inside the freighter.
Upon turning towards her bags she remembered about the other agents' bag she had.
"Which one of you forgot their bag of clothes at home?" she asked them.
Embarrassment radiated off of Fin.
"Fiiiiin!" her voice got serious.
"I'm sorry." He apologized as he took the bag from her hand and began to run inside the freighter, while Rey chased after him, wanting to beat him up for forcing her to carry all that extra weight to the hanger.
"Well, I'm glad we have the whole crew together." Poe said and walked with Rose inside, pressing the button on the nearby terminal for the ramp to close.
Not long after the Freighter took off from the hanger and flew out into space.
Ten minutes later it jumped into hyperspace, jumping over the border and leaving Republic space.
Hi everyone, I wish you all a happy and healthy new year.
I finally managed to make the crew take off into the adventure I promised. The next chapter will be long, but don't worry I wrote already half of it.
