Redemption

Revan ran ahead, while Kara picked Jason up and flew after him. The path was a tunnel leading to what seemed like the outside. Kara flew to see Revan had stopped in a big field, Xa-Du nowhere to be seen. She put Jason down and looked around with her super vision. It really was as if her new Kryptonian nemesis had disappeared.

"I think the men were a distraction to get out of our anti-meta-dampener's range so he could teleport." Revan said.

"Agreed." Jason spoke, already working on something in a holographic interface shining from his bracer. "There are slight residual particles of Quark matter in the atmosphere. I might be able to reopen the portal, give me a second."

Revan and Kara nodded as Jason worked on getting them to Xa-Du.

"You know, the moonlight really shines off your hair." Kara smiled as she walked up close to Revan, taking his hand.

"Am I supposed to surmise that facing off with old Kryptonian enemies makes you flirty?" Revan smirked, his mask now off.

"No, being around you does." Kara smirked right back, coming on closer now.

"Wow, you are way too smooth right now, Girl of Steel." Revan replied, slightly taken aback. Then, his face became a bit serious. "Kara, who was he? This Xa-Du?"

"An old criminal from Krypton." Kara spoke. "He suggested invading and terraforming other planets when Krypton's core was becoming unstable. He knew my uncle, Jor-El was right about Krypton not lasting much longer. But his methods were far too… hostile. He became one of General Zod's first supporters, and was imprisoned by my mother for several illegal experiments."

"Wasn't General Zod the guy that tried to terraform Earth?" Revan asked. "Your cousin stopped him."

"Yeah, he got the idea from Xa-Du." Kara said. "I'm not surprised he makes this kind of meta-tech. His skills rivalled my uncle's, and that's saying something."

"I'll say." Revan nodded. They stayed there, in each other's arms for the next few minutes, before Jason suddenly sounded off.

"Come on, portal's ready." The two looked towards him to see a small mass of swirling blue energy. "It won't last long, hurry."

"Let's go." Revan said, seperating from Kara, but not before whispering in her ear, "I love you" in her native tongue.

"I love you too." She whispered back, before speeding into the portal with Jason.

The team came out Broadway street in the middle of National City.

"Kara! About time! I've been trying to reach you for days, metaphorically!" Winn's voice crackled over comms.

"Winn! What's happening?" Kara spoke.

"Chaos! There's explosions all over the city, and there's a massive machine of some kind at the park!"

"We're on our way!" Revan spoke. "Let's go." He said to the others, they raced off.

The gigantic machine at the park was already whirring and glowing with energy. Xa-Du stood in front of it, having shed his secretive suit and mask, now wearing a suit that looked like it was made of leather-like bandages, only different, and nothing on his face. Revan really hadn't registered his face well back at the hideout. It was scarred, ragged skin with blemishes all over. He snarled at the heroes as they arrived.

"Welcome! This… this is my pièce de résistance! Do you like it?" Xa-Du spoke.

"What are you doing, Xa-Du?" Kara yelled.

"It's… it's a magnetar." Kara heard Jason's shaky voice. She looked at him, finding he was frozen, taken aback. She then turned to see Revan much the same. This was a device that had helped destroy their whole universe. It'd taken away all nearly all their loved ones.

"What the hell are you doing with a magnetar, you bastard?!" Revan outright yelled.

"Good work, recognizing it. With this, I am finally going to gain the power I was denied due to being inside the Phantom Zone. Watch!" Xa-Du yelled. The heroes watched as the machine, fully whirring now, suddenly zapped Xa-Du with a tremendous amount of energy. Artificial solar energy, it seemed like to Revan.

"He's forcibly charging his Kryptonian cells. To be like you and your cousin." Revan explained.

Xa-Du cackled maniacally, looking at his own body. Suddenly, he surged forward. Revan moved Jason out of the way, while Kara flew up to dodge.

"While I was annoyed at having to move up my schedule, at this moment, I feel like I must thank you! I have never felt better in my life!" Xa-Du said. Then he flew forward again, aiming a punch at Kara she dodged, throwing a counter punch at Xa-Du, but he caught it easily. Smirking, he used the grip on her hand to fling her across, throwing her through the air a fair distance.

"Supergirl!" Revan yelled and was about to run for her, when Xa-Du now lunged for him and Jason. Revan quickly grabbed Jason and ran out of the way. Jason, quick on the draw, flicked his wrist and a black and gold gun materialised in his hand. He shot it twice at Xa-Du, and the bullets exploded, actually knocking him back.

Seeing her chance, Kara flew in and punched Xa-Du straight in the face, sending him flying over a couple blocks.

"What the hell are in those bullets?" Alex asked over comms.

"Titanium hollow points with a C4 kicker. Fastest, most explosive ammo in the world. Made them myself." Jason smirked, aiming his gun again as Xa-Du was now flying back at them.

Revan shot out beams of light from his hands. They hit Xa-Du, but didn't faze him much. However, Kara flew at him alongside the beams, and Xa-Du was distracted by the beams enough to get hit by Kara's punch again, flipping through the air and landing near his magnetar. Revan quickly took this opportunity and shot him with some Kryptonite radiation beams. Sure enough, these seemed to damage him, as Xa-Du yelled out on pain, the telltale green veins showing up on his skin.

"I'm beginning to understand your power a bit more, Comet!" Xa-Du spit out. "But Kryptonite won't help you a lot!" as he spoke, the magnetar powered up again.

"He's gonna recharge!" Jason yelled.

True enough, another surge of energy shot out of the magnetar, and the green veins disappeared off Xa-Du's skin. "Let's try this again." He said, holding out his left arm. A forearm mounted cannon apoeared, and shot green beams at Kara.

Kara dodged the beams, but both her and Revan could tell that those were Kryptonite beams. While the radiation wouldn't hurt because of the shield she had on, if she got hit directly, it would do some damage, not to mention, it could potentially physically break the shielding device.

"He's targeting Kara. Get to high ground and snipe." Revan told Jason as he went to join Kara. Jason nodded and snapped his fingers, disappearing with his usual golden light.

Revan quickly ran to Kara. "Get down on the ground!" he yelled through comms. Kara quickly flew down, and Revan blocked all the shots, absorbing everything. "Heat vision, now!"

The two heroes let loose their combo of ranged attacks, Kara's heat vision and Revan's compressed light. He mixed in Kryptonite into it, but in moderation. He had to be careful not to tire himself.

Another surge of energy recharged Xa-Du, who now lunged forward again. Revan dodged, but not without popping a bright flash of light, paving the way for Kara to land another punch. However, just as her fist connected with Xa-Du's face, he fires his cannon low, hitting her in the belly. The two Kryptonians flew back from their clash.

Revan ran to Kara's side, quickly absorbing any residual radiation, before warming her up with some solar rays, while as Xa-Du was getting up, he was immediately shot in the face, again, by Jason, a purple trail left behind by the bullet. He was sniping from a literal mile away, leveraging the fact that Xa-Du couldn't leave his machine alone with Revan and Kara. He was now using a big, sleek rifle with black and gold accents. The bullets seemed to do some damage on Xa-Du, despite having had a recent surge of power from the magnetar.

"This isn't going anywhere. We have to shut off that thing!" Jason spoke through comms.

"We'd have to get Xa-Du away from it long enough then." Revan said as he and Kara stood up again, ready for more attacks from Xa-Du.

"I can lead him away. Piss him off so he follows me. This is personal for him." Kara suggested.

"Let's do it." Revan nodded. "Jason keep providing cover."

"You got it." Jason said.

"You're not alone in that." Alex's voice came crackling over the comm line. A second rifle mounted up on another rooftop as Alex set up there. J'onn landed beside Kara, already in his full Martian form.

"A Green Martian." Xa-Du said. "Smart, getting backup. But I've got more up my sleeve." The magnetar charged up once again, shooting him with energy. This time however, it was a bit different, more blue.

"Blue Kryptonite radiation. He's supercharging himself!" Revan said. "He's gonna be stronger now. You're gonna have to be careful!"

"Hey, I learned from the best." Kara smiled at Revan, before stepping forward. "Xa-Du!" she called out. The scarred villain immediately whipped his head towards her. "I never did ask you how it felt, being thrown into the Phantom Zone like that. Must have been some vacation, right?" she said with a confident, taunting voice.

Revan could see Xa-Du gritting his teeth, seething with rage. As soon as Kara smirked, he immediately lunged at her, crashing into Kara and flying off with her.

"Turn off the machine! I'll help her." J'onn said before flying off after them. Revan forced his fear for Kara's safety down his throat and ran up to the terminal of the magnetar.

"Jason see what you can do help Kara and J'onn." He spoke over comms as he got to work.

"Copy." Jason said as he teleported once again.

A few blocks away, Xa-Du landed with Kara in the middle of the street. Kara groaned in pain, her midsection burning from the tackle from the villain.

"Now you'll pay for your mother's crimes." Xa-Du said, going to punch Kara, when J'onn flew in, his fist connecting with Xa-Du's jaw.

"You're the one who paid for your crimes, Xa! You deserved to go into the Phantom Zone!" Kara said defiantly, standing up. "And now you'll pay for the ones you committed here." With that, both Kara and J'onn flew in, when Xa-Du's hand cannons returned and he fired several shots out towards them. Kara dodged them, while J'onn simply phased through them. Then they both threw a punch at Xa, only for him to catch both of them, on each hand. He then twirled them around and threw them into the ground.

"Blue kryptonite, huh? Why don't I ever get any?" Kara muttered to herself, forcing herself up. Xa-Du was indeed stronger now, but that wouldn't stop Kara or J'onn. Kara ducked under another punch thrown by Xa-Du, countering him with an uppercut, which sent knocked him on his back.

Kara and J'onn's hits were doing lesser damage than before the blue Kryptonite charge, they both realised. Hits that should have sent him flying were only knocking him back some feet, or only tipping his balance so he fell. While a single one of his punches probably hurt more than one of Clark's at the moment. Kara made a mental note to ask Revan for some emergency blue Kryptonite. However, she kept weaving and dodging, then countering. J'onn had an easier time, since he could simply phase through Xa-Du until he needed to hit him. Kara, all the while, kept an eye on Revan, making sure he wasn't interrupted. She knew that device was highly unstable, highly destructive, and highly susceptible to changes. Slight miscalculations could mean catastrophe.

This mental division caused Kara to miss a punch, which didn't knock her off her feet, but it did daze her badly. J'onn was about to cover for her, when Xa-Du hit the ground, creating a powerful shockwave that sent J'onn tumbling back. Kara, now also lying on the ground, looked up to see Xa-Du standing over her, his Kryptonite cannon aimed at her head.

"Any last words, Kara Zor-El?" Xa-Du said.

Suddenly, something shot through the air and hit Xa-Du's cannon, travelling straight through it. It left a big hole in it, a telltale purple trail behind it.

"Not just yet." Kara strained to say, flying up and punching Xa-Du in the face again, and again. A barrage of punches connected with his face, with one final blow that knocked him back several feet, rolling through the street till he hit a light post.

"Thanks Jason." Kara panted.

"No problem, I got you covered." Jason spoke, keeping his aim steady on Xa-Du.

Revan was sweating pinballs. This machine was no joke. He couldn't just dismantle it, or do the usual stuff. Xa-Du had 27 different fail-safes in place for if other tech experts tried to mess with it. The only safe way he found to neutralize the magnetar was to vent it's energy up into the sky in one continuous beam of low intensity, high frequency infrared radiation. It was all he could think of to make it as non-lethal as possible, so it wouldn't harm anyone else. Now he'd just have to activate the sequence that would convert the energy and vent it straight up, continuously, instead of bursting out and potentially damaging the city.

Kara noticed that Xa-Du was slowly getting tired. Hits were damaging him more normally.

"Excuse me, will you?" he then dropped a smoke grenade, laced with lead to block super vision.

"No! He's going to the magnetar!" Kara yelled. "Someone stop him!"

"On it." Alex spoke over comms. As Xa-Du came in close to the machine, he was blindsided by yet another obstacle. Kara quickly flew in to see Alex standing in front of Xa-Du, wearing her old Kryptonite exosuit, brandishing that same Kryptonite sword.

"Today's not your day, huh pal?" Alex smirked at Xa-Du.

J'onn joined Kara and Alex as the three stood between Xa-Du and the magnetar.

"There's no way you're recharging anymore, Xa. Give up." Kara said.

"This sword has already spilled one Kryptonian's blood. I don't want it to spill any more. Stay down." Alex spoke threateningly. The blade was now an inch from Xa-Du's chest. "I'm sorry I'm using this again, Kara."

"No, it's necessary. And very useful." Kara smiled at her sister. Xa-Du looked at the people standing over him with a look of rage. Kara could tell he was thinking, planning a move.

"I think we should just take him back." Kara said. "To the DEO. Throw him in a cell."

"Let's." Alex said. She backed the blade just enough for J'onn to try to restrain him.

"It's done! It's safe now." Revan spoke through comms. As he spoke, the magnetar was already spewing red harmless light through the sky.

Suddenly, Xa-Du flew out through the others, impaling himself with Alex'a blade.

"What-" Kara's eyes widened as he flew straight towards the magnetar. "No!" she yelled, afraid he'd recharge. Instead he crashed through the machine into it's core.

"No!" this time it was Revan who yelled. He quickly ran away from the magnetar. "No no no!" his expression was one of horror and hopelessness.

"Not again." Jason said, having teleported beside them.

"What's happening, Comet?" J'onn asked.

"It's a Pulsar. It's another Pulsar!" Revan frantically said.

"Jason, isn't that what… you know… destroyed your Earth?" Alex asked.

"Yeah." Jason said, although his expression was just as forlorn as Revan's.

"Xa-Du flew into the core. He had some kind of thermite charge in his body that he detonated in there. That mixed in with several other unstable energies caused the core to destabilize, creating a Pulsar." Revan said. "Bastard killed himself with the hopes he'd kill us all."

"Can we stop it somehow?" Kara asked.

Revan let out a bone-deep sigh. "Yeah. I can stop it. Only me." He turned to the others. "You guys need to get out of here."

"What? Why?" Kara asked, stepping towards Revan.

"I have to run fast enough, at just the right vibrational pattern to generate my own Pulsar, make it out of phase so it counteracts that one." Revan said. "It's unsafe for anyone but me to be here."

"Will you come back?" Kara asked. Now she was behaving frantically. "Will you… come… back?"

Revan looked down. "I…"

"Rev don't you dare lie to me now. Will. You. Come. Back." Kara stressed every word, advancing and grabbing onto Revan's suit, clutching at his chest.

"I don't know." Revan replied.

"I'm staying." Kara simply stated.

"I lied. It's not even dangerous 5 feet from it if I succeed." Revan said, his voice giving away his tiredness. "I just can't do this if you're here."

"Why?" Kara said, her lip quivering.

"Because if I see you, I might act selfishly and want to stay with you." Revan said.

"You're gonna die, aren't you?" Kara asked, tears now in her eyes.

"Most likely." Revan said, nodding.

"No. No no no. Think of something else." Kara said, vehemently shaking her head.

"Kara" Revan calmly said, "there is nothing else."

"There has to be!" she yelled out. "There has to be…" slowly, she collapsed onto Revan, her arms around his neck, sobbing into his shoulder.

"I wish there was something-" Revan tried, but Kara quickly stood straight again.

"No! No I'm not letting you go!" she said between sobs.

"Kara, think of the billions that will die if I don't stop this." Revan spoke. "The whole world-"

"YOU'RE MY WORLD!" Kara yelled again, still sobbing profusely, resting her forehead on his shoulder. "I've lost my world so many times. I can't do it again. I can't lose you too!" she said, looking up at him.

Revan cupped her cheeks, looking at her with a sad smile. Those bright, blue eyes, now drowned in tears, it hurt him. But he had to do this. "You're my world too. And I lost one to this exact thing, and I've lost more before. I'm not losing this world too. I'm not losing you to this thing. I have to do this." He said, before kissing Kara. Kara responded immediately, snaking her arms around his neck, burying her hands in his messy hair. Revan pulled her close, his hands on her waist. In that second, Revan memorised her. His Kara. Her smile, her eyes, her shape and colors, her smell and taste, everything.

"I'm sorry." Revan said as he broke apart, before placing two fingers on Kara's chest, shooting her with Red Solar radiation.

"Wuh-" Kara stumbled back, looking wide-eyed at Revan.

"Jason, you know what to do." Revan solemnly said. Jason instantly threw a different looking card on the ground, and it immediately froze the three others.

"There really is no other way?" Jason asked as he walked to them.

"No. I'm sorry. Take care of them for me? Please?" Revan said.

"The chances of you coming back aren't zero." Jason said, looking away. "I'm not making any promises until they are."

"Fair enough, but if they get to it?" Revan asked, a sad smile now on his face.

"Then it's a deal." Jason said.

"Thank you. Now go." Revan said, turning towards the magnetar with resolution. "It's for me to get a little redemption from Pulsars."

Jason bit on his lip, with enough force to draw blood, as he snapped his fingers.

.

.

.

.

Kara, Alex and J'onn stumbled out of the slowing zone Jason had created, to discover they were back at HQ.

"No no! No I can't be here I have to-" Kara spoke as she tried to fly, but realised she couldn't. Revan had temporarily depowered her.

"Kara." Winn called, looking depressed himself. "It's Revan." Kara ran over to Winn.

"Kara?" Revan's voice crackled over comms.

"You depowered me!" Kara yelled.

J'onn asked most of the agents to leave, give her some space, and they all agreed.

"I'm so sorry, Kara." Revan said. It was clear from the strain in his voice that he was struggling but running.

"No you don't get to be sorry! J'onn! J'onn you have to fly me over there. Please!" Kara said as she turned to J'onn standing beside her.

"I can't, Kara." J'onn said, not meeting her eyes.

"Jason! You can teleport me over right?" Kara asked, frantically looking at everyone, trying to find some semblance of hope.

"And what if I did?" Jason spoke, stone faced. "Would you stop him?"

"Yes!" Kara said.

"Then what? The Pulsar goes off. He dies anyway, only now, he dies along with the billions of all the others on this planet." Jason said.

Kara's lip quivered again as the reality of the situation, that she'd been so desperately trying to avoid, slowly but surely sunk in.

"Rev… I…" she tried to speak.

"It's okay, Kara." Revan spoke. "It is. We were all going to die anyway. This way, it's just me."

"Why you?" Kara sobbed. "Why is it always the people I love?!"

"Hey that's not the passing criteria here." Revan chuckled a bit. "But I am the only one who can do this. The only one who can reach Mach 3 plus speeds."

"But… I need you." Kara said, the table creaking slightly under her hands as she leaned on it to stabilize herself.

"I'm always gonna be with you, Kara." Revan said. "I love you, Kara."

The live news feed showed a white beam slowly rising beside an already existing red beam.

"He's doing it." Winn sighed.

"I love you too Revan." Kara said, her voice shaking.

"Now you promise me you're not gonna go cold mode! Promise me!" Revan yelled over comms, clearly in pain.

"I promise!" Kara sobbed.

Suddenly, there was a screech from the other side, before the line went dead.

"Revan!" Kara screamed as she fell onto her knees, crying, clutching her chest in a desperate futile attempt to soothe the pain.

Alex knelt beside her sister and hugged her, tears in her own eyes. Kara immediately collapsed into Alex's embrace, clutching at her shirt.

Jason was now crying too, although trying to remain as stoic as he could. But the tears were clearly flowing from him as from everyone else.

Suddenly, the line sprang to life again, static feed coming in. Kara looked up with hopeful eyes. Then, they heard something. Kara looked back, towards the entrance of the DEO. A wormhole had opened up and a streak of white light came through. Kara saw Revan lose consciousness while running, as he tumbled across the ground at high speeds.

"Revan!" she ran to him, faster than anybody despite not having her powers yet. Within a second, she was beside Revan, cradling him on her lap as she frantically tried to help him. "Revan? Hey, can you hear me?" she said, still sobbing, but most of the pain now gone.

Jason was the second one by his side. He immediately got to checking his vitals, figuring out what was wrong with him, if anything was. "Get him to the infirmary!" Jason said as he and Kara quickly carried Revan to the infirmary, setting him down on a bed.

.

.

.

.

Revan opened his eyes, groggily looking around. Eventually, he spotted his Kryptonian girlfriend sitting beside the infirmary bed, on a chair. She was still in her Supergirl suit, dozing off.

"How long have I been out?" he asked.

Kara suddenly sat up, leaning over to him. "Rev! Uh… a couple hours. Jason said you were completely depleted of energy."

"I figured." Revan said, tired beyond limit. "Are you okay?"

"AM I OKAY?!" Kara raised her voice. "Revan Snow, you depowered me! You made Jason teleport us back! You…" her voice slowly dipped down to a whisper, "you almost left me alone." A couple of tears rolled down her cheeks. There were tear marks all over her face. She'd been crying a lot. "You don't get to do that. You don't get to leave me alone! Not after everything we've been through… not you." She looked up to meet his eyes.

"Kara…" Revan looked at her, with a sad but reassuring smile. "I'll always do my utmost to get back to you. But if the world was ending and you knew you could save it, but at the cost of your life, wouldn't you do it? Save me, Alex, J'onn, everyone?"

"Don't ruin my argument with your logic." Kara sniffled, leaning forward further to rest her head on his chest.

"Okay." Revan smiled, chuckling a bit, rubbing his hand on her head, wiping the tears off her cheeks. She leaned into his touch, kissed his hand, revelled in the fact that Revan was still here.

"I love you." Revan said softly in Kryptonian, running his fingers through her hair.

Kara looked up and smiled, that same bright, million dollar smile that he knew he could die for. "I love you too." She said, before resting her head back on his chest, breathing a heavy, long sigh of relief. She felt light once again, having her Revan back with her.

"Revan!" The two turned to see Alex and the others enter the room. "You're awake! How are you feeling?"

"Like I could straight up hibernate." Revan said.

"I'll say." Jason said, walking in. "Quite the nap you took there, jerk." He came close and patted Revan's shoulder. "You've got multiple concussions in you, so take it easy for a couple days."

"Naah, you know me. I'll be back to business by tomorrow." Revan smirked.

"Damn speedster healing." Jason said, before laughing with everyone else.

The first rays of sunlight were starting to trickle into the DEO HQ.

"A new day." Kara said, gripping Revan's hand tightly. "With you." She smiled at him.

"How about we go home, tell Lena what happened, and stay in bed all day. Order in some pizza." Revan suggested to his beautiful Kryptonian girlfriend, running his finger across her cheek.

"That's perfect." She replied softly. "And I'm flying you home." She said with mock sternness, pointing a finger at him.

"Yes ma'am." Revan chuckled, raising his hands in mock surrender.

"Well, go on." J'onn said, smiling himself. "We have some cleaning up to do with what happened."

"We're coming over for Game's Night tonight though." Alex said.

"Of course." Kara smiled. She then slowly helped Revan up, as she shakily stood up. He dematerialized his suit back into his ring, while Kara quickly changed into some regular clothes.

"You need some kind of micro storage for your suit." Revan said.

"Later." Kara said as she promptly picked Revan up and flew off to their apartment.

"I'll see you guys later too." Jason said, flicking two finger in a salute goodbye before snapping his fingers, teleporting off in a flash of gold light.

"Well, back to work, everyone." J'onn said as everyone went about their jobs.

X-X-X-X-X

Xa-Du is out of the ringer. And look! This chapter is long! I was going to make it longer, but I decided against it.

Hope y'all like the little no-hope-scenario I showed here. As always, please review to let me know about anything you like or dislike, or any suggestions or complaints. Constructive Criticism is always welcome.

New chapter due soon. See y'all in the next one. Peace!
