Since he had been in student council during middle school, getting up early and leaving early were nothing new for Ritsu. What was new was getting up early and leaving early on an empty stomach. He had properly planned out his morning, from when he would get up to when he would eat. Unfortunately for him, the latter part fell through when he opened the fridge to found it completely empty. At least that explained why Teruki had them eat out so much but now he had to go out and find a place to eat within the next thirty or so minutes.
The heat of the sun made Ritsu begin to regret not just heading straight for school. It was an unusually hot day and the blazer of the UA uniform made him feel as though he were trapped in a sauna. His hands were itching to remove his tie but he knew that if he did he would never be able to tie it as nicely as Teruki had.
He wasn't interested in fast-food but he wanted something quick and light. Something that wouldn't be hard to eat and that he could quickly dispose of.
"Would you like some cotton candy?"
'Perfect.'
Ritsu halted his stride to turn and face a man standing behind a cotton candy stand. He wore a dark cap that cast a shadow over his face but Ritsu could see his blue hair flared out in the back.
Candy wasn't optimal breakfast food, it wasn't even food, but it was something. If he didn't take this he doubted that he would find anything else.
"Yeah actually," he took off his blue backpack and grabbed his extremely light wallet. "How much?"
He could see the man smile as he said, "107 yen*."
Ritsu gave him the money and the man reached forward to hand him one of the blue clouds. When the man leaned back his shirt or something must have snagged onto the cart because the next thing Ritsu knew the whole stand fell over.
The man let out a small yelp and quickly fell to the floor to pick up the knocked over candy. He grabbed them in a dainty fashion, one pinky up and gathered them in his arms. However, his arms quickly became too full and he couldn't carry anymore.
Ritsu squatted down next to him and asked the man if he needed any help. He was given a slight nod in response and Ritsu stood with his cotton candy tucked under one arm and pushed the cart back up.
He turned back to see the man throwing the rest of the candy away. It was a shame but at least he didn't look too bothered about it.
The man walked back to the righted stand and sighed. "Well I'm done for the day then." He turned to Ritsu and reached his hand forward and plucked something off of the teen's belt. Ritsu looked at him incredulously, disturbed by the lack of personal space.
"Relax," the man said as he lifted his hand to show what he held between his two fingers, "there was a piece of cotton candy on you."
"Oh, well thanks," Ritsu mummered. Slightly embarrassed, he quickly left the stand and continued on his way to school which, surprisingly, wasn't that far away.
Even though he had already been there, he couldn't help but gaze at the overwhelming size of the school. Everything was so well maintained and it looked more like a business than a school. From the keycard he needed to enter to the tall windows that reminiscent of an office building.
But he was getting ahead of himself. The school was amazing but he couldn't let himself get too comfortable, not while he was in (not exactly) enemy territory. Ritsu steeled himself and made his way to class.
Be involved in everything without anyone knowing you're involved in anything. That's what Teruki told him. But right now, standing in front of this giant door in a world not his own, Ritsu was unsure. What he was sure of was that he couldn't fail, jitters be damned.
Opening the door, he saw a tall bespectacled student with blue hair berating someone for putting their feet on the desk. That someone happened to be the same hostile blond he just can't stop running into. He was in Ritsu's class, just his luck.
He wasn't the only one who was less than pleased. His presence had been picked up on by said blond and he quickly ignored the tall boy in favor of shouting at Ritsu.
"Just my luck. I not only have to deal with stick up his ass but now Porcupine too!"
"My name's Kageyama Ritsu," he hissed, trying to be polite, "Please, stop calling me Porcupine."
"Don't fucking tell me what to do! I'll call you whateve–"
"Ah! So that's the name of my savior," a third voice cut in. It was the boy that Ritsu had saved during the entrance exam, smile on his face and looking good as new. "The name's Sero Hanata and I'm glad you're here! Despite what I told you at the exam I was scared shitless, so thanks for rescuing me."
"Nice to meet you too and it was really no problem," Ritsu assured. "I don't think I would've been able to live with myself if I left you."
"It seems that you too knew the true nature of the test Kageyama-san," the bespectacled boy—Iida—spoke up from the entrance. When did he get there? "Both you and Midoriya-san. I can't believe I was so blind."
Ritsu turned around to see that Iida was standing next to the green haired kid he was supposed to become friends with, Midoriya. Class hadn't started yet so this would be the perfect opportunity to properly introduce himself.
"Hello Midoriya-san. It's good to see you again," he said, "I'm Kageyama Ritsu."
"It's nice to see you too. It's nice to see a familiar face," Midoriya smiled. That smile quickly turned into a deep red blush when a girl with a bob popped in.
"Glad I found you! You made it in, just like Present Mic said!"
Ritsu tuned them out when the two went off into their own conversation. He figured that he would take good look at the class. There were 20 students total which was a good amount of students to get lost in. He'd blend in just fine as long as he stayed out of trouble.
"If you're looking for buddies you're in the wrong place," a drowsy voice droned. "This is the Department of Heroics."
The person who spoke was a man lying on the floor inside of a yellow sleeping bag. Ritsu didn't know how he didn't notice him earlier but now he couldn't take his eyes off of the man as he wormed his way to the front of the classroom.
He stepped out of the sleeping bag and Ritsu was able to get a better look at him. He had long, unkept, black hair and eyebags that put Kamuro to shame. It was the same man from his acceptance letter.
"I'm your homeroom teacher, Aizawa Shouta. Pleasure to meet you."
'This guy?! Our homeroom teacher?'
"Now put these on immediately and shove off to the P.E. grounds," he said this while pulling out 20 P.E. uniforms out of his sleeping bag.
The whole class, now in their P.E. uniforms, walked out to the P.E. grounds with Aizawa leading the way. He guided them past all of the exercise equipment that Ritsu figured must have cost a small fortune and to a simple pitching circle facing toward a dense forest.
"You're going to be taking a quirk apprehension test," Aizawa drawled.
"But what about orientation?" the brunette standing next to Midoriya asked.
"If you want to be a hero you have no time to waste," he responded. "Softball pitch, standing long jump, 50 meter dash, endurance running, grip strength test, sustained sideways jumps, upper body exercises, and seated toe-touch. These were all things you had to do in middle school but you were barred from using your quirks. We're doing this so that we can get an accurate idea of your preformance levels.
Bakugou, how far could you pitch a softball in middle school?"
"67 meters."
Aizawa tossed him a softball with a screen around it. "Stay within the circle and throw this to the best of your ability using your quirk."
Ritsu could see a feral grin appear on the blond's—Bakugou's—face as he stepped into the circle. He took two small steps backwards before taking one large step forward and shouting:
"DIE!"
With an explosion, the ball broke through the clouds and towards the forest.
'Die?'
Everything he did screamed violence but Ritsu had to admit that Bakugou was powerful. He also had to admit that the thought of all that power within such a violent person worried him.
At the sound of the ball hitting the ground Aizawa looked at his phone screen and then faced the class to show them the screen as well. "Before anything else, a hero must know what they're capable of. Think of the score you get as your heroic foundation."
The class broke out into discussion once the screen was shown. 705.2 meters. Ritsu could practically feel the excitement in the air.
"705 meters?! That's unreal!"
"We can really use our quirks now? That's the Department of Heroics for you!"
"Awesome! That looks so fun!"
The temperature dropped. Aizawa bore into them with a leveled look and asked, "Fun?"
Ritsu cursed the loud mouth who said that last part.
"Do you think that you're going to be spending the next three years here having 'fun'? What happened to becoming heroes?" Aizawa sighed. " Alright then, new rule: The student who ranks last in their total score will be labeled hopeless and instantly expelled."
Ritsu could feel his blood run cold. The thought of failure paralyzed him. If he got last place he and Teruki would be over.
But, Ritsu took the time to look around. Between him, a guy with tail, and a girl whose only power was being invisible there was no way that he could fail. It was like a weight off his shoulders. A very small weight but a weight nonetheless.
Aizawa was expecting the best from them but Ritsu knew that he couldn't show everyone his best. He had to be average.
There were 20 of them and the average of 20 is 10.5. So he would have to place 11th. That didn't seem too hard.
Everyone was still in an uproar at the news. For their dreams of being heroes to be at risk like this; they were all terrified.
"The kid who gets last will be expelled?! It's only our first day and even if it wasn't that's unreasonable!"
"Natural disasters, mad accidents, egotistically mad villains." with the silence of the class Aizawa went on. "All of these things happen when we least expect them. Japan is positively drenched in the 'unreasonable' and it's a hero's job to bring back reason. If you're expecting to have a friendly chat and go grab lunch at MightDonald's after school that's too sad.
For the next three years at UA, all you should expect is one hardship after another. This is Plus Ultra. I expect you to overcome these trials and climb to the top."
'Be average.'
Out of all the conspiracy boards in the world Teruki had come to the conclusion that his looked the finest. Each person, place, and thing that appeared on the board had an extensive description underneath them that was the result of hours of research. The strings of yarn were multicolored to represent the different types of relationships between multiple subjects and the articles were placed down based on height with the most likely fake at the bottom and the most likely true at the top. His board was perfect.
So why did it feel so incomplete?
He had scoured the internet and took all the information it could offer. From the top 100 heroes and their quirks to conspiracy blogs and fan clubs. He had so much information about so little and it frustrated him. Where else could he get answers?
Teruki faced his board and stared, hoping that a solution would jump out to him. Relationship rumors? No. Approval ratings? No. Quirk comparisons? No.
Teruki combed his fingers through his wig and resisted the urge to pull. For people so public these heroes were so private! Where else could he find information on these heroes other than the internet?
Then he saw it.
"Tour the Ingenium Agency Today!"
Why hadn't he thought of it before? Tours! They would be perfect! The best place to find out more about heroes would be at their place of work, he could ask the sidekicks!
Teruki's face lit up with a smile and he removed the article from the board. The tour date it was advertising had passed but he was sure that he could find another one. He also needed to find the tour dates for other agencies.
He was at his computer and already had a decently sized list of hero agency tours jotted down on some scrap paper when the realization dawned on him. Asking the sidekicks probably wouldn't help him. It's not that he thought that they wouldn't know anything but that they wouldn't tell him. At least not anything of value. Why would they confess anything that wasn't already public knowledge to a random civilian?
The thought made him flop his head back and groan out loud. He faced his computer and huffed. Maybe it couldn't provide him answers but he knew whose computer—computers—could. Everything nowadays was done digitally, so if he won't be given the answers, he'll take them.
To do so, he would need to know two things: how to get past security cameras undetected and how to hack.
For the first one, it would be a great help if he knew how to teleport or something. The only esper he could remember even doing that was the redhead from when they took down Scar so that was no help. However, the boy seemed closer to Ritsu so he figured that he would ask him when he came back to the apartment.
As for the latter issue—if he didn't count freelance gigs, online schooling and decorating his conspiracy board—Teruki had nothing but YouTube and time on his hands.
He knew that he should really be focusing on himself and getting better scores on this test but Izuku figured that any distraction from the throbbing of his broken finger was a welcome one.
The familiar feeling of his hand cramping came to him just at the thought of all the writing he'd be doing in his journal. He'd never been surrounded by so many powerful quirks before and to see them being put to use in an apprehension test? This was practically a gold mine! In particular, he saw the most potential in Kageyama's quirk.
There were so many possibilities when it came to his quirk. How much could he carry? Izuku knew that he could at least carry himself by watching how he had done so during the long jump. He also didn't seem to have any drawbacks like the sparkly kid's laser or the cute girl's—his face flushed at the thought—zero gravity.
Kageyama was #19 so he always went after Izuku. This allowed him to get a good look at his quirk. Maybe too good of a look because he would often find Kageyama looking back at him. He looked to be a pretty stoic person, expression never really changing, but every now and then, when he looked to Izuku, his face would fill with...anguish? Yeah, anguish. And the look would get more and more severe after every trial.
But why does he look like that? He was doing great! Honestly, Izuku felt as though Kageyama could do even better! He had a quirk with so much potential but his scores on each trial always underwhelmed Izuku. He also hardly broke a sweat when using his quirk. Did it really have no drawbacks? Why did everything about him feel so...off? It was almost as if he was holding back.
No. That idea was so outlandish that Izuku could hardly believe that he actually thought of it. They were all beginners here so Kageyama's most likely still trying to get the hang of it. If that was the case, Izuku had to make sure that he supported him!
"And that concludes your quirk assessment test."
That is, if he didn't get expelled first.
In the end Izuku ranked last but he wasn't expelled. It was all a 'logical ruse' and he couldn't even begin to describe the waves of relief that overcame him when he heard that.
His first day of school was over and, dare he say it, he thinks he made some new friends. Not the mean type like Kaachan but two real friends.
Those two real friends were Iida and Uraraka. Their personalities seemed like they would clash, between Iida's by the book attitude and Uraraka's bubbly demeanor, but they surprisingly didn't. Izuku figured that it was because they were genuinely kind people.
He was walking out of school with them when by his side when a voice called out to them.
"Hey!" It was Kageyama. "Are you guys headed to the station?"
"Yeah we are. Well me and Uraraka are but Iida's getting a ride." The thought of someone else joining them only caused Izuku to smile brighter while also easing his mind. If he was stuck with Uraraka his face would be cherry red during the entire ride.
"That's on the way to my apartment. Can I walk with you guys?"
"Of course!" Uraraka answered, clapping her hands together. "We would love the extra company!"
Three real friends.
So the four of them left the school together. Iida broke away from them after a bit and stepped into the back of a rather expensive looking car, leaving three of them.
They were walking in a rather peaceful silence when Izuku's brain decided to betray him. He was literally walking next to the person whose quirk interested him the most. This was his chance to ask questions! But he couldn't. He didn't want to scare Kageyama off. Besides, how hard could it be to not talk?
Very hard.
'Don't ask. Don't ask. Don't ask. Don't ask. Don't ask. Leave him alone Izuku, you can always ask him later. You can even come up with more questions in the meantime! Just wait until you're more secure in your relatio—'
"About your quirk Kageyama," he blurted out, unable to stop himself. "Is there a limit to how much you can carry? Does it have any drawbacks? Do you get nauseous? How close do you have to be to an object in order to move it? How many things can you carry at once? Do you have to see something in order to move it? Can you carry other people? I'm asking you too many questions aren't I? Sorry about that, really I am. Your quirk is just insanely cool. Should I shut up now? I think I should, if that's alright with you? You know what? Let me just shut up."
'Damn it.'
He tried to smile away the awkwardness but the damage was already done. Kageyama had a look of pure confusion on his face and Uraraka was heaving over with laughter. He really messed up didn't he?
Kageyama opened and closed his mouth as if he was a lagging computer still trying to load information. "I can't carry entire buildings but I don't know my exact weight limit. No drawbacks. I don't get nauseous. I don't know. I also don't know. I don't have to see it but I do have to know where it is. Yes," he went through the questions like a check-list and kept tally with his fingers. "And you like my power?" At this, his face heated up with a fierce blush.
While he spoke, Izuku kept his eyes glued to him while taking meticulous notes. He was honestly surprised that Kageyama actually answered all of his questions and he didn't want to miss a thing. Kageyama's question at the end was the only thing that made him stop.
"Well yeah," he found it weird that he said power rather than quirk but it didn't really matter. "It can be both flashy and low profile. It has so many possibilities!"
Kageyama grabbed the side of his face and looked down. "Thanks."
His reaction was weird. It's not like Izuku didn't blush like a madman himself it's just that Kageyama didn't seem the type. Did he not receive that many compliments regarding his quirk? That didn't make any sense though. With a quirk like his, he should've been showered with attention the moment he turned four. Izuku's actually surprised that he didn't end up like Kaachan.
Their conversation soon shifted to the embodiment of terror that was their homeroom teacher but Izuku's confusion stayed. The three of them also talked about frivolous things like which pro hero was their favorite. Kageyama chose Endeavor but it took him a bit to answer that question. Izuku chalked it up to all the heroes to choose from because if he had to pick somebody other than All Might he would have a tough time too.
Another thing about Kageyama that took Izuku by surprise was just how snarky the boy actually was. This part of him came out when Kaachan was brought up and he so eloquently referred to him as "The embodiment of an angry chihuahua". A remark that made Izuku adamantly try to defend his childhood friend and left Uraraka gasping for air.
At the moment, Izuku was in the middle of furiously blushing at one of the questions Uraraka asked him, hand scratching his strangely coarse hair and everything, when he saw Kageyama start to slow down. He too had his hand in his hair and he was combing through it while wandering around the area, as if he were looking for, or rather avoiding, something. Whatever it was, he seemed to find a place he liked and he motioned the two of them over to him.
"I know a shortcut," Kageyama said. He pointed them to a slim gap between two tall buildings.
"A shortcut?" Uraraka asked. "That looks a bit cramped don't you think?"
"Yeah," Izuku added, "Are you in a rush or something?"
Kageyama paused for a bit, eyes wide, before fumbling out, "Umm...I have to get to my apartment quickly. I forgot that my...father wanted me to do the dishes before he got back."
Izuku's subconscious told him that Kageyama was acting strange but he promptly told his subconscious to shut up before he actually scared Kageyama off with his speculating.
"If that's the case, we can go with you Kageyama."
"If Deku-kun's cool with it then so am I," Uraraka agreed. "Besides, after today I really need to get some rest. Lead the way Kageyama-kun!"
She called him Deku again. He was going to faint.
Kageyama went ahead of them and squeezed his way through the buildings with Izuku and Uraraka following close behind. He took a right, then a left, another right, backtracked, took a left instead, and then a final right before arriving in front of an apartment complex.
"Well this is my place," Kageyama said. "I'm up on the first floor, room 126. If you take the next two rights from here you'll reach the station. It should only take a minute or two."
"Okay, thanks Kageyama," Izuku replied. "See you tomorrow!" And with that, he and Uraraka left.
Later, when he was alone and Uraraka had reached her destination, he finally allowed himself to think about Kageyama. He was nice but, when Izuku took the time to consider his performance during the apprehension test and the way his urgency to get back home had practically disappeared when he finally did get home, he could only think one thing:
'Kageyama is weird.'
Ritsu swore that his heart was sinking deeper and deeper into his chest during homeroom today. Not because he was afraid of his expulsion but because he was afraid of Midoriya's expulsion.
All throughout the quirk assessment he kept on getting the worst score. Even against the girl—Hagukare—whose only ability was being invisible! Ritsu was even starting to think that he might actually be quirkless but then Midoriya did the softball pitch and it gave Ritsu hope.
Only for that hope to be smashed into the ground and spit on. Because after the softball pitch, his finger broke (like where did that come from?) and his scores started to somehow get worse. But Ritsu still had hope. That pitch had to count for something right?
Ha...hahaha! No.
When Aizawa-sensei had posted up the scores, his heart reached his digestive tract. Last place? He should've known! Now he would have to go back to Teruki and tell him to change his plans. He'd drop out of the most prestigious hero school in Japan—which wouldn't look suspicious at all—and then stalk Midoriya for who knows how long to find out where he planned to go next.
He had been in the middle of figuring out how much a lock picking set would cost when he heard Aizawa say:
"Oh yeah, that whole 'expulsion' thing was a lie. lt was a logical ruse."
Never before had Ritsu felt so much relief only for it to be so swiftly replaced with unbridled rage. He had felt his face heat up and had to literally bite his tongue to avoid lashing out. Their teacher was evil. Not super villain evil but Teruki evil, and that was worse. Sure, he wasn't as smiley as Teruki but he still gave Ritsu the same urge to punch him in the face.
He was only able to calm himself by thinking of the positives. Midoriya wouldn't be explled, that's good, and his classes after this would definitely be less stressful, that was also good.
After school, he ended up walking with Midoriya and that gravity girl, Uraraka. Unfortunately for him, there happened to be a portal on their path to the station so he had to come up with some nonsense excuse that they surprisingly bought. Now he was back at the apartment.
Teruki was nowhere to be seen but Ritsu couldn't find it in him to care. He just wanted to take a warm bath. Mind set, he took off his shoes and made his way to his room but just as he was about to open his door, he heard a muffled voice. An unfamiliar muffled voice. An unfamiliar muffled voice coming from Teruki's room.
Ritsu spun 180° on his heels and pressed his ear to Teruki's door. The unfamiliar voice was male, probably in his 30s. Why would Teruki have someone in the apartment? The matter didn't sound that important, it was mainly just the man spouting technical jargon while Teruki said nothing.
Quickly getting tired of the suspense, Ritsu opened the door and stepped inside but rather than seeing some 30-something year old man he saw Teruki huddled up like a hermit. The lights were off and the blinds were drawn. He had take-out in his lap and his eyes glued to the clunky old computer which was playing a YouTube video called Figuring out passwords—hence the second voice.
Ritsu stared placidly at the older teen's back, feeling quite underwhelmed by the turn of events, before flicking the lights on. The sudden flooding of light caused Teruki to jump in the air with a screech which made him spill his take out (MightDonald's) onto the floor. He turned towards Ritsu angrily and glared at him before trying to save whatever was left of his burger. He almost felt bad for him but, by the looks of it, Teruki hadn't gotten any food for Ritsu so it was what he deserved.
"What was that for?" Teruki hissed, clearly irritated that he had only been able to save about ten or so fries.
Opting to ignore his question, Ritsu instead took a better look at the computer screen. "Are...Are you learning how to hack?"
"Yes," he sounded a bit offended, as if he couldn't believe that Ritsu couldn't believe that he was learning to hack. "It's a useful skill to have when you're trying to get information."
"Infiltration, conspiracy boards, and now hacking? You're really going all out with this spy theme."
"Yep! And my next trick will be snooping around hero agencies!" Teruki took a bite out of a fry. "Speaking of snooping, do you have any idea how that redhead from Claw was able to teleport away from us like that? It seems like he already knew you beforehand so I figured that you might know."
The thought of that redhead sent shivers down his spine. He honestly never wanted to think of him again but Teruki brought up a fair point. "I only met him that night but I don't think that it was teleportation. I feel as though if it were he would have disappeared faster. Instead he seems to...warp? It's most likely just invisibility."
"Huh," Teruki mumbled while rubbing his hair (wig?). "Thanks for the information Brother-kun, it really helps. Which will only make what I'm about to do sting even more."
The way he said that last part set off dozens of alarms in Ritsu's brain. "What do you mean by that?"
"Brother-kun, you silly goose," Teruki's voice was filled with mirth now, "you have to get ready for school."
"But I already had school," he didn't like where this was going.
"Yeah, fake school. It won't count in our world and it is important that you get a proper education at a proper establishment!" he said the last part with the voice of a rich old man.
"Don't you even say what I think you're going to say. I'm serious. I will punch your—"
"Online school!" Teruki practically cheered. He placed his fries down, grabbed Ritsu's shoulders, and ushered him out of the room and into the bathroom.
"Luckily there's a portal in the toilet and this time it's above the water so there's no need to worry about a barrier!" He pushed Ritsu closer the the toilet.
"Teruki! Let go of me right now or I will actually break your jaw this time!" Ritsu shouted but Teruki brushed his threat off as though it were a mere fly.
"You'll be dropped off at my apartment and there will be a laptop waiting for you there with instructions on how to sign in. The drop shouldn't be too high this time too!"
So obviously this maniac wouldn't listen to reason. Ritsu had to just go with his logic then.
"But what will I write in?" he asked. "I used up the first notebook you gave me and I'm already using the second one!"
"Don't worry Brother-kun! I noticed that earlier and went out to get you a new one!" Teruki batted his excuse away like a softball. "Now make sure that you stay hidden, okay? Everybody thinks you're away."
"You had time to get a notebook for me but not food for the apartment?" Ritsu was grasping at straws but maybe he could stall Teruki long enough for him to punch his lights out. However, fortune was not on his side.
"I'll get some while you're out. Now go! The day is still young!"
Realizing that it was hopeless, Ritsu wanted to make sure that Teruki regretted even thinking about signing him up for online school.
"I'm taking any and all money you left over at your apartment and selling your things!"
Teruki's cheery attitude was practically wiped off his face. He looked Ritsu in the eye, glowered, and without a word he shoved Ritsu into the toilet.
'The shirts will be the first to go.'
Ritsu's Notebook 2
Be average.
I got 11th in the quirk apprehension test today.
Aizawa-sensei is evil but at least Midoriya's not expelled.
Midoriya (Deku?) is really into powers—no, quirks (I need to remember that).
Oh, and Midoriya's quirk literally breaks his bones.
I only found 2135* yen at Teruki's apartment but hopefully I'll be able to find someone with worse fashion sense than him to sell his clothes to.
Omake #2
5 Months till entrance exam
This time around, Hanazawa brought him to the Black Vinegar music room. Ritsu sat at the bench of the singular piano while Hanzawa rested his elbows on its polished top.
First the mecha and now this. Why was he here? He had homework to do and student council minutes** to arrange.
"Today, you'll be learning how to use air whips."
"Air what?"
Instead of answering him like a normal human being, Hanazawa flipped him off. Ritsu, thoroughly pissed, was this close to choking him with his own tie when a golden whip sprouted from Hanazawa's raised finger.
"Air whips," he elaborated. "I picked it up from one of those Scar thugs Kageyama-kun and I fought on our way to save you. They aren't that effective against stronger espers but regardless, I'm still very fond of the technique."
He retracted his air whips and stood with his bright yellow aura around him. "Think of your air whip as an extension of your aura. Imagine it traveling up your finger and away from your body." Hanazawa resummoned his air whip but did it slowly this time, allowing Ritsu to see its formation.
It didn't seem too hard. Ritsu let his blue aura surround him and focused on his hand. His middle finger slowly rose while he internally apologized to his mother. He watched as his aura danced up and around his finger and rose into the air, an arrow at its top.
How far could he reach? Into the sky? Among the stars? He was brought back down to Earth by the soft thud created by his air whip making contact with the ceiling.
Ritsu looked to see Hanazawa smiling. "You're a natural Brother-kun!"
The nickname caused a frown to fall upon Ritsu's face. "Okay, so I can create and air whip. What does this piano have to do with it?"
"Creating air whips is a lot like playing the piano," Hanazawa explained. "When playing the piano, each of your fingers are doing something different but they are working as a whole. Think of your air whips as your fingers and have them work towards a common goal."
The explanation sounded very well thought out but it was wasted on Ritsu because he was still confused. "How hard can it be to control two whips at the same time?"
"Speak for yourself. I can produce 10," Hanazawa proceeded to sprout five whips from both of his middle fingers. "I think that we should be able to get you to skillfully use four by the end of the month."
"Only four," Ritsu was somewhat insulted that it was such a low number. "How long did it take you to use 10?"
Hanazawa put his rubbed his chin in thought. "About a month as well."
"Then I should be able to do so too."
"But unlike me, you've never played the piano. It will take you a while to learn."
"Still," Ritsu insisted. "I bet I'll be able to at least get six by the end of the month!"
Hanazawa let out a soft chuckle before nodding his head in a agreement. "Fine then, let's get started. Scoot over and let me sit down."
I finally released a new chapter. Are you guys proud of me? I'm really getting into this story but I doubt that my update speed will increase. However, I promise that I won't abandon this story. I am WAY too hyped to do that. I'm trying to upload this story to SpaceBattles but it's a very confusing site ఠ_ఠ
My birthday is drawing close and I'm excited :)
In regards to making Endeavor Ritsu's favorite hero, he was the first and only hero he's ever met. Plus, they both have an inferiority complex.
The next chapter should be up before November so look out for that. Reviews give me writing energy ᕙ(`▽´)ᕗ so pls leave some! How did you like the chapter?
Also, I'm going back to change all Bakugou POVs to Katsuki POVs so you might get updates from previous chapters.

Favorite, follow, review and I'll show you how to scare 19 out of 20 fifteen year olds.
