Helping herself to a coffee, Mattel was looking forward to a fine day. So far it had been rather peaceful, despite being told the mansion was chaotic.
"This place is luxurious. I feel bad Coral wasn't invited...but I shouldn't let it get to me. This may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, after all."
Just as she was about to take a sip, she noticed something crawling a near her...it looked like a mouse.
"Oh, are you one of those...Pokémons? Starly told me about them." Mattel bent over to pet the white and blue mouse...
BOOOM!
A big explosion hit her, sending her into the wall. Laying down with a muffled groan, two characters ran in to investigate.
One was Starly, but another was a two tailed fox. Seeing Mattel laying face first on the ground led to Starly quickly helping her up. "Hey, what happened Mattel?"
"A small mouse just exploded, I don't know how...!" Mattel spoke, shocked...as the fox facepalmed.
"Starly...did you mess with my stuff again?" He asked, as Starly quickly retailiated with "The mouse looked like a toy, Tails! How was I supposed to know it was a bomb?!"
Tails just shook his head at Starly's attitude. He expected her to be cautious...but then again, it was Starly.
"Are you okay miss?" Tails said as he brushed the soot off her. Coughing a bit, Mattel smiled faintly. "Um, yes! Just wasn't expecting this in the morning."
"You'll be surprised...this place is crazy. That explosion was pretty basic compared to what usually goes on here." Tails explained, making Mattel pause. "Basic...?'
If a mere explosion was enough to be considered basic...then Mattel was not looking forward to seeing the more crazier parts.
"Aha! And I beat yet another foe!"
The ever self-entitled King Knight was delighted at beating another fellow spirit at Joustus. To be specific, a Koopa, who was now saddened, dejectedly leaving the table.
"Is there no one who could prove worthy as my opponent in Jouztus? Not one has beaten me!" King Knight proclaimed, and got not a single reply.
Well, actually, one did. A blue clothed rabbit, named DeMille, spoke up. "Well how the heck do you expect us to keep up? You probably spend all day playing it and we only know about it now!"
"You simply lack skill in the game! Now, is there anyone who is willing to face me?" King Knight questioned, with no one wanting to give him the satisfaction of a game.
Until Mattel came in, wiping off te soot from her hair to no avail. "Can anyone tell me where the showers are? I'm afraid of getting mess in the rooms..."
"YOU!" The booming voice made Mattel jump with a quiet "Eep!", before she turned to whoever called her, who was...well, King Knight. "Er, yes? May I help you?"
"You will be my next foe in Joustus!" King Knight claimed, as Mattel just stared back in bewilderment.
"...What's Joustus?" The fishy princess questioned. A question that the knight was used to. "I will give you the rules. But after you read you must prepare!"
"...May I clean myself first? I was caught in an explosion earlier." Mattel questioned, as King Knight went quiet, before speaking. "Very well."
Giving herself a long shower, Mattel finally got a all of the soot out of her hair. Drying herself with a towel, she stepped out, humming to herself, before the door swung open.
"You really accepted to play a game of Joustus with King Knight?! Are you nuts?!" Jumping up in surprise, Mattel would see DeMille, looking like he was just told the stupidest idea in existence.
"Is there a problem with that? It seems he's a very eager to play games." Mattel questioned, before DeMille practically went into her face.
"Yeah, eager and egotistical!" DeMille yelled, looking annoyed. "He's really good at that game, and he's so smug about it too! He rubs his wins in people's faces and acts like he's better than everyone!"
"Is he really that confident of his skills?" Mattel wondered, to with DeMille flatly replying "Would I be saying all this if it wasn't real?"
After a bit of silence, DeMille turned to Mattel and said "...Honestly, hoping you somehow win."
"Um...thanks?" Mattel replied. Leaving the showers, she would head over to the table, where King Knight sat waiting impatiently.
"Sorry for the wait." Mattel politely said, before having the rules thrown to her face. Blinking in surprise, she took the paper and read it.
Welcome to Joustus!
The main objective of the game is to claim more gems than your opponent, by finding ways to push cards to gems. To start the game you have to pick a card from your selected deck. Each card has one or more arrows pointing in a certain direction; the arrows indicate where you can push another card towards. The game has three end conditions. The game will end if:
1. No more valid moves can be made.
2. All of the open squares are full.
3. A player has no cards left at the start of the turn; should this happen, the other player automatically wins regardless of the status of the gems (although a Gem Sweepcan still occur)
Before should could really understand, King Knight declared "The game shall start now." The fish princess got worried. Was he as bad as he was said to be? He was giving a very mocking air...
Only one way to find out.
"I...I...what...?!"
Shocked filled the room as King Knight looked at the table. His eyes weren't deciving him...he was beaten in approximately three minutes!
"Holy crud, you actually won?!" DeMille yelled, startling the fish asbshe jumped into the air.
"I-I guess I did..." Mattel spoke, shocked herself. She merely winged it when doing all that, she didn't expect to actually pull it all off. Suddenly being lifted into the air by DeMille cheering. "HEY GUYS! SOMEONE FINALLY BEAT KING KNIGHT!
As the rabbit cheerfully brought the fish out to share the accomplishment, King Knight stood quietly, before clenching his.
"That fish humilated me. How dare she! I'll get back at her no matter the cost!"
With a huff, the snobbish knight went off, declaring himself her "rival".
