Chapter 7
Shinichi and Nico walk out of the motel they stayed in that night. Nico gave a brief overview of the information he gathered about the Titan's Army. Shinichi pulls open the door to a diner and Nico follows behind him. Both were seated at a booth in the back where they began to discuss Luke.
"So, It seems to me that he is just a figurehead."
"Why do you say that?"
"Well, I find it hard to believe that he actually has any power or influence on what life would be like for demigods if they were to win the war. If the gods don't really value mortals then I find it hard to believe that the Titans would treats demigods any better. Think about it, Nico. If what you said was true when you met him at the labyrinth then Kr-"
"Don't say his name-"
"-K then, is just using him. Also, I find it very odd how there doesn't seem to be any adult demigods. If this is really a 'war' where are the adult demigods or alumni from camp half-blood? Wouldn't they be more than willing to come back to camp and help out?"
Nico looked at Shinichi with furrow brows, "I-I never thought about what happens to all the adult demigods. The oldest at camp was 19 I think..."
Shinichi looks down at his coffee. 'Does this mean they all die before they even become adults? Do the gods abandon their kids because they will not even live past their twenties? Are they all killed before then?' Shinichi looks to Nico. Nico takes a bite out of his pancakes, his thin frame and sunken eyes show a hint of the difficulties of living as a demigod.
Shinichi takes a sip out of his coffee. 'No. I refuse for such a grim fate to await Nico. '
Shinichi ponders out loud, "I think it's sort of obvious as to why the Titans did not choose an adult demigod as their host."
Nico returns a curious look urging Shinichi to continue.
"An adult demigod would be stronger, more powerful, more skilled than a teen demigod. However, I think it would be harder for the Titans to manipulate and trick them into allowing them to possess the body. In addition, if the Titans were to have an adult demigod on their side it would be harder to mold the body or maybe be more difficult to possess."
Nico pauses his eating to ask, "Why do you think they would side with the Titans?"
"I think they might hate their godly parent for never being able to live a normal life. If what Percy mentioned to me is true then once they reach a certain age they leave camp and only have their skills to defend against monsters for the rest of their life."
Nico gives a huff. "I'm not surprised" He stabs into his fruit bowl and takes a vicious bite out of the cantaloupe. Shinichi begins to munch on his omelet. "So what we know so far as skills is that he's a skilled thief, charismatic, expert sword fighter, and possibly have some of K's power by now. I think there's much more to him to be able to be considered a host. Maybe some more abilities that he kept to himself at camp and so the campers wouldn't know."
Nico nods in agreement with him. Nico swallows and replies," When I last saw him something was very unnatural about him even for a demigod. I want to check if he did something to upgrade himself,"
"Like a spell card in Mythomagic only in real life?" Shinichi continues and raises an eyebrow at Nico. Nico jaw drops and a flush appeared on his face.
"you-you.."
Shinichi rubs the back of his head sheepishly and laughs. "So I ended up researching into the game and ended up buying the Advance version of it. I thought it would be a good starting point to understand the figurine you left with me."
Nico stares at Shinichi. He looks back down into his food and mumbles, "Yeah, like a spell card"
"Well from the game I recall there was "light of Olympus", "Styx blessing", and there were items like the " golden apple" which would enhance your player." Nico looks up at Shinichi. "The Styx does exist and that's what I believe he used to give himself an advantage."
Shinichi gives Nico a curious glance. Nico huffs and explains what he have been trying to convince Percy to do.
Shinichi hums, "If he did this then it's most likely he physically cannot be harmed. I'll help you with research with Luke and finding out his past. Meanwhile, I think we need to look into campers that may exist outside of camp and rather look to see if we can get a spy from his side."
Nico scrunches his face, "a spy? Why"
"We need numbers, what's there next plan of attack and how can we weaken their defenses. Also if we can cause more demigods to deflect from K the better it will be in the end for everyone."
Nico gives a nod at that.
"Well, now that we have a plan to continue to investigate Luke you said that you have an idea for us to meet Thanatos?"
"Yeah, unlucky for us he is always moving but we could ask one of the minor goddesses to point our direction towards him. "
"Which one?"
Nico looks uneasily at Shinichi, "Well, Thanatos is the god of peaceful death but the one who will know where he could be is his opposite, the Keres"
Shinichi takes a moment to think, "Wait- you mean the goddesses of violent deaths? Why can't we ask for his brother the god of sleep?"
Nico grimaces, "um, I've heard rumors that he actually is against the gods. Most minor gods and goddesses are. "
Shinichi huffs out, "Great just great. So how are we actually going to find them? "
"So you know how your luck is really bad?"
Shinichi looks at Nico in disbelief, "You mean to use me to find them? I can't control my bad luck Nico."
"I would say let's go find Nemesis but she's not on the gods side either. And from what you say I don't think we need to control your luck. Didn't you say you can't even survive a week without 2 murders? Well yesterday was a suicide so it will be any day now before we run into a murder. " Nico gives a grin to Shinichi and slurps his drink.
Shinichi eyebrow twitches in annoyance.
"My luck isn't that bad, rather-"
A shriek and hysterical crying of a women interrupted Shinichi. Shinichi on autopilot runs to the back kitchen area where a man laid dead.
Nico walks in behind him and whispered to Shinichi " what were you saying again?"
Shinichi just huffs and yell for someone to call the police.
