File 46: The sun after the rain

On the rooftop of Sarayashiki Middle School, Urameshi Yusuke and Kuwabara Kazuma were complaining while eating. That Kamiya bastard knew what would happened if the hole opened and the youkais were free to come and go and still went along with it. That bunch was willing to risk their lives to destroy humanity because that was all humans deserved. Well, the punks didn't understand that train of thoughts or the selfishness of dragging everyone into their mess just because they hated humans. If they wanted to die, they should do it on their own.

However, their reflections were suddenly interruped by Botan who came running and screaming about terrible news. She opened the communicator and let Koenma explain. The time limit was not three weeks but one! They had miscalculated the location of the center! According to the reports provided by Kurama and Akari and the analysis of the results, the center was actually 550 metres underground, and the diameter was not 1,3 km but had already enlarged to 1,7km! The enemy had been creating a spherical spatial distortion and the circle projected above ground was nothing more than a cross section of the sphere centered below. Kuwa tried to make Yusuke fill him in since he couldn't see or hear anything but actually... it had been too complicated for the Spirit Detective too and he hadn't got a clue what was happening either. Botan fell and summarized everything in simple terms: they only had one week before the hole opened and they had also found the location, there was an entrance to a large cave on the outskirts of Mushiyori City with an underground system of waterways. That was the Irima Cave.

Now that the enemy's location was known, Yusuke wanted to hurry and join up with Akari, Kurama and the others so they could storm those guys' hideout. He was going to dash out of school with Botan but they froze when they noticed Kuwabara hadn't moved from his spot. What was wrong with him?

"Sorry, but today, I can't." The tall delinquent said gravely.

"What? Is your stomach upset or something?"

"Don't tell me you're having a heavy flow day!" This remark from Urameshi caused the girl to smack his head and call him an idiot.

"The truth is... today is the first concert of the gods of heavy metal, Megallica, in Japan!" Kazu exclaimed like he had won billions with the lottery plus a trip to paradise. His three friends, Kirishima, Sawamura and Okubo came to fetch him with similar expressions. "That's how it is! Sorry, man!" But before he could leave, Yusuke punched him and called him an idiot for daring skip out for some concert. That was the ring signaling the start of the fistfight. Kuwa wanted to kill him for having mocked Megallica and dismissed their live as 'some concert'. The detective wanted to knock some sense and rid him of his carelessness as you couldn't well balance the world with a stupid concert. However, Kuwabara had an ace up his sleeve for winning this argument. "Then what would you do if you had tickets for the final round of the World Martial Arts Championship?! Would you be able to give it up?!" That blow made Urameshi freeze and recoil, affecting him much more strongly than any other. He soon screamed in frustration and started pulling at his hair.

The ferry girl scolded him for hesitating and brought up Akari's name. She wouldn't hesitate and go straight to those guys and crush them to smithereens because she truly loved fights! The detective disagreed. Akari was as selfish and self-indulgent as could be and didn't care much about the world. She preferred lazying around and would go watch the finals! Then again, according to Botan she could be surprisingly responsible and very protective of those she loved. She'd go to any lengths to protect this world they lived in! Well, it was true she'd go to protect her own peace... but it was also very possible that she'd wait to be done with her hobbies/activities first before going... her self-indulgence, her lack of sense of responsibility and discipline were nothing to sneeze at either... Kazuma interrupted this close debate that could have lasted for a long while (until they got the actual answer from Akari). He had been looking forward to this concert for over a year and he would have even killed a scalper to get his hands on those tickets. Even if the world was about to explode, he was going to watch this concert!

"Oh, is that right? Then do whatever you want! Without your powers, you're a dead weight to us anyway! If you're attacked along the way, I won't help you! You're doomed without me!" Yusuke petulantly let his friend go, not without said friend's last outrage. Kuwabara may be rusty but he was still a Man with Guts! He didn't need Urameshi's help! The two growled at each other, humphed, and went opposite ways. Botan sighed dejectedly. This might be the beginning of the end of humanity.

And another upset was added to Reikai Tantei, Urameshi Yusuke's obstacle race to save the world. Kurama and Akari had gone off somewhere too! Genkai, Keiko, Botan, Yanagisawa and Kaito (Kido was still recovering at the hospital) had gathered at his place. Kaito told his those two hadn't come to school today. What was with everyone doing whatever they pleased when they couldn't waste even one second! None of them was taking this seriously! Since it had come to this, he just had to storm this hideout himself and crush them! But a hit on the head by Genkai's teacup brought him back to reality. They knew the place. They shouldn't sloppily rush ahead. Yana and Kaito agreed with her. They should prepare properly. And so, sick of everyone and everything being against him, Yusuke decided to go off to the game center to blow off some steam and do whatever he wanted just like everyone else. Keiko was worried he'd really go after the enemy alone but to Genkai's opinion, he was in fact worried about Kuwabara and hiding it with his attitude. Well if he really was stupid enough to attack the enemy base alone then he deserved to die.

Georges was noisily ranting on and on about the horrible punishment Koenma-sama would inflict upon him should they enter the top secret research room without permission. They ignored him and still went in. Annoyed by the ruckus, the prince yelled at him to shut up from the top of his ladder. When he turned though, he saw Kurama and Akari and asked them what they were doing here. They had something to ask.

"You do in fact know who the mastermind behind opening the hole to the Makai is, don't you?" The fox probed.

"What kind of rubbish is that? If I knew that I would have had him attacked long ago." Junior returned to his book and waved his hand dismissively.

"And what if the enemy was even greater than us? You wouldn't go carelessly ordering attacks, right? And so you would be torn, even while knowing the identity of the enemy. Am I wrong?"

"N-nonsense! Don't you go guessing about such things!" Koenma, obviously very flustered, bolted upright, dropping his book.

"I've guessed right, haven't I?" Kurama concluded. The truth was evident on the toddler's face.

"What bothers me the most is: do you really believe that guy is stronger than me? Is there really such a gap between us?" Akari questioned abruptly and testily.

Kuwabara and his friends left the concert hall all screaming and jumping despite the pouring rain. He even threw himself down and belly-sledged in a large puddle. That live had really been worth all the waiting! Next they decided to go to karaoke and sing until they lost their voice. Sawamura was lagging a little. He sneezed because of the chilly rain. Then he heard something. He turned and looked in horror as a liquid hand came out of the sheet of water covering the street. When they noticed he was gone a few seconds later, they initially thought he had gone off to pee and joked about it. But it was Kirishima's turn next. He saw a sort of humanoid monster rising from the water in front of him and screamed in terror. The water creature elongated its index into a spear about to pierce his heart but Kuwabara saved his life and extending his arm. The weapon only pierced his hand. He yelled in pain. The thing disappeared back in the water. Kirishima and Okubo were worried about him but he didn't listen and asked the culprit to show himself.

And he did. It was just a boy, about 14, with a delicate face and wavy blond hair. He was wearing a yellow hooded sweatshirt. He had been waiting for the rain, a really heavy rain that could maximize his powers. Okubo, scared out of his wits, thought he was dreaming. And behind the hooded teen appeared the water giant... that was holding Sawamura captive. He seemed to have been hit repeatedly and he also had three bloody cuts on his torso. The enemy introduced himself as Mitarai Kiyoshi, a.k.a 'Seaman'. Kuwabara recognized him as one of the Seven Urameshi had been talking about.

Meanwhile, Yusuke was really at the game center playing Devil City like the moron he was.

Mitarai taunted Kazuma. It looked like no one was coming to help him. This was his fault for interfering with their plans. What more, given the situation, it had been quite careless of him to act separately from his pals. The Seaman had also been observing them for a long time, especially him, since he had lost his powers, and he had been waiting for his chance to kill him. And now, he was going to show them how he created those water monsters... He removed the bandage from his finger and lightly pressed below the cut on his fingertip. A drop of blood dripped on the ground in a puddle and a small vicious-looking creature of water emerged from it. He could create liquid creatures by combining his blood with a liquid. The more blood he mixed in, the bigger and stronger the creature.

Okubo was starting to think he had gone crazy given all the impossible things that were happening. Humans with those kinds of power? Weird creatures of water hurting them? This was too surreal! It couldn't be true! But Mitarai reassured him, or dashed his hopes... he wasn't crazy, nor was this a dream or some illusion. This was reality. Then he asked Kuwabara which creature he preferred... by which he wanted to be killed. Kazuma remarked he was as warped as Kamiya but the Seaman didn't want to be lumped with him. The reason why he was with Sensui, why all humans should be exterminated... they were all for themselves, shunning, bullying the one that didn't fit. Humans were in fact the cruelest creatures that delighted in causing pain. In that case, they should all just die! That was why he was going to kill anyone who got in the way, starting with Kuwabara! The latter was fine with it, but he was the only one who should be targeted. First, Mitarai should let Sawamura go and allow the others to leave. They'd settle this man-to-man!

Kiyoshi scoffed. He had said they were going to wipe out all of humanity. Kirishima snapped and lunged against his friend's advice. The little thing took him out with one punch and landed on his chest. It was Kazuma's turn to lose it and attack. He kicked the creature but really, it was just kicking water. It reformed and rained blows on the human who was knocked over. Only the plump Okubo was left. Knowing he was utterly helpless and yet unable to simply do nothing after having watched his comrades being so soundly beaten, he charged blindly, sloppily, his eyes closed, and inevitably missed. He was also dispatched by a single punch. The giant took both Kirishima and Okubo who joined Sawamura as hostages. The Seaman laughed maliciously. Looks like even when they ganged up, they were no match against even a few drops of his blood.

Kuwabara sat up and cursed. Mitarai offered to let him live and make him his slave if he let out a tearful apology. That angered Kazuma who threatened not to let him return alive if he did anything to those guys. That defiance even though he couldn't do anything enraged the member of the Sensui Seven who stabbed Okubo's thigh with his knife. The young man screamed in pain. Kuwa charged... only to be mauled again.

Yusuke crashed against the parapet just outside his apartment door. He glared and got angry at the old hag for having hit him like this out of nowhere. However, she was the angriest one. He hadn't gone over to Kuwabara?! He yelled that he had warned them he was going to the game center. She really didn't think he was THAT much of an idiot. Kuwabara guy couldn't use his powers so someone had to watch over him! Yusuke retorted it was his fault for having gone off to goof around at such a critical time. Why would he care about someone like that?! Besides, his spirit powers had disappeared, right? The enemy wouldn't waste his time attacking him! Genkai corrected him. They hadn't disappeared, they were just dormant. Urameshi was really clueless about anything but fighting. Next time he met Kuwabara, he ought to pay close attention and probe out his ki. It was just like the stirring he felt from an egg as something inside it was about to hatch. He might be weeks late compared to Yusuke but he was also about to shake off his shell... if only he was still safe! At this point, the enemy probably knew of Kuwabara's state. The Reikai Tantei finally understood and darted again, followed by Botan.

Kuwabara stood up again and demanded that 'the bastard' let go of his friends. Fear was visibly growing in Kiyoshi. He just couldn't understand why someone would keep being battered and still keep getting up and fighting for the sake of someone else. It just couldn't be. That didn't make sense! That bunch was just some pals! Kazuma insisted. Kirishima who had woken up asked his friend to leave and come back for them later, though of course he refused to abandon them. He was going to save them now. And he was certainly right in that: if he just left, they would just be killed having lost their value as hostage.

"Save them, you say? What can you do in that beat-up condition of yours, moron?" The enemy taunted but his bravado was obvious. Kuwabara did not say a word and simply marched on slowly, resolutely, one step at a time. Terrified by that persistence, that quiet strength, that unyielding will, whose root he could not comprehend and thus could not act on, the blonde child lost his nerve and screamed. The small creature responded, attacked and pummeled the punk once more. And just when Seaman thought he had finally kicked the bucket, he stood up once more. "You still want to have a go at it? Over these guys?"

"Because they're my pals." Kazuma whispered as this was all he could manage. Kiyoshi's eyes widened. All humans were selfish. All humans were trash. That's what he had ascertained. 'Friendship' was just a word with no actual meaning. It didn't exist. He thought he could prove that again here. Yet Kuwabara's actions went against everything he had come to believe and proved the very opposite.

"I can't stand your third rate acting anymore. It's time to finish this!" Mitarai snapped his fingers and the trio got pulled into the large monster. If he couldn't win, then he just had to eliminate that anomaly that defied the logic of this world. Then he would be right. He laughed maliciously. No matter how much they foolishly struggled, there was no way they could get out of here!

"Stop that!" Kuwabara charged... and was soon caught by the large monster's tail that absorbed him and made him join his pals inside. He punched repeatedly, trying to open a hole in creature, in vain. Seaman laughed and called him a fool. His territory was actually inside those creatures. It was a separate dimension of space, closed off from the outside. Once they entered, it was impossible to leave unless they defeated him! However, trapped inside here, there was no way they could reach him, let alone defeat him! It was hopeless!

"You acted so tough, you stupid bastard! You can take that petty self-satisfaction of yours to hell with you!" But no matter how hateful and disdainful he tried to be, in truth he simply sounded desperate... desperate to justify himself, prove himself, that he was right, that his value, his existence was recognized, however the form. Kazuma looked at his three friends. They were drowning. He had no time to lose! He started punching again, cealessly, franctically... if he couldn't unleash his true potential now, when the hell would that be?! The member of the Sensui Seven laughed again at the futility of his victim's efforts. "There, what's the matter? It hurts, right? Cry out! Beg 'Please save just me!' Cry out... cry out... That's how humans are... lowly humans..." But his smile was so strained that it seems to be there only to stop him from crying. And suddenly, a cut appeared in his hood and on his cheek. Sparks of reiki would come out of Kuwabara's fists. But he was in an alternate dimension, how could he attack from here without transcending dimensions? Could he be the one Sensui-san was looking for? The one with the power to cut through dimensions?!

More slits appeared on his clothing. Kuwabara roared. There was an explosion on light and reiki that even Yusuke and Botan felt. They headed to that direction. A spirit sword had appeared in Kazuma's hand, different from before. He slashed through the monster, and a deep bloody gash opened on Mitarai's chest. That man was really the one... The child collapsed. His creatures disappeared, freeing Kuwabara and his friends. Kuwa coughed, recovering his breath and looked in wonder at his new and weird reiken. It vanished. He approached his fallen enemy who looked up at him in fear. Was he going to get killed?

"You've caused me a lot of trouble! Now it's my turn! Prepare yourself!" The Sarayashiki delinquent cracked his knuckles. Mitarai shut his eyes as the blow descended on him. But to his great surprise, the one he had tried to kill helped him up and supported him. "... or so I'd like to say. If I leave you here, you'll probably die." He carried Okubo on his back, Sawamura against him, his arm against his neck, and dragging Kirishima by the arm.

"D-don't tell me... you're going to save me too...? After I just tried to kill you?"

"I'm not saving you because I want to, dumbass." And still, step by step, despite his battered body, he walked on, carrying the weight of those four lives on his back. Because he was not sophisticated, as a simple man, better than most he could see what was truly important without losing sight of it, without making mistakes. And that clear sight gave him strength and overcame adversity.

Yusuke and Botan returned to his home where the energy had headed. Looked like Kuwabara had come back safely. Urameshi had barely entered the building that he saw those guys collapsed in a heap. The two hurried to their friend and screamed his name. Kazuma entrusted the rest to Urameshi before passing out.

From the large window of his apartment, Sensui was overlooking the city. The Sniper came in. Dark Angel announced that he had found someone to cut through the kekkai. They were going to move on to the next phase. Kaname had expected it, which was why he had brought The Gourmet over.

"That's considerate. Toguro, the time has come for us to borrow your powers."

"Let me at them. I'd do anything to kill them. Of course, I cannot do anything in this body, but if you could wait just a little longer..." But despite him being so full of morbid anticipation, everyone just watched with a smile as Makihara Sadao, the Gourmet, took him by the hair and ate the dregs of the demon whose last scream echoed into the night.

The next morning, Kiyoshi woke up to the sun and chirping of birds. He quickly sat up, which caused pain to shoot through his body. He was greeted by Yusuke who was sitting on a chair. There were also Kurama, Akari, Botan, Genkai, Shizuki and Keiko. They were all in Urameshi's room. After running around looking for them like crazy, he had returned to find that guy collapsed after having carried the four of them. Mitarai saw Kuwabara snoring in a corner, with only his underwear and a towel covering him... and bandages. Kurama informed him that Kirishima, Sawamura an Okubo were safe. They had heard about him from them, and after Akari had healed them, they had made those three forget all about what had happened.

"And I'm also the one who healed you, enough so that you won't risk anything, though not entirely since you're still an enemy for now. And so, here's the price for having your life saved by Kuwa and me: tell us everything you know." Akari said. The Detective warned him that it was useless to lie or keep silent. They had a friend with the ability to read minds. The Seaman hesitated, apparently conflicted. And then he spoke.

"We can't go on living. We must die."

"By 'we' do you mean you and your friends?"

"I mean all of mankind. You guys would think so too if you saw that video!" He burst out. The guys wondered what video he was talking about. "A videotape called 'the Black Chapter'." He answered. The fox instantly reacted to that. "It shows you with one viewing just how cruel the things humans have done up to now are."

"It's a top-secret tape kept hidden in the Spirit World that records all the crimes commited by the darker side of mankind. Hiei wanted it. Humans have commited all sorts of crimes and the cruellest and most brutal ones are recorded on it. It runs for tens of thousands of hours. I knew that tape existed but I had no idea it was related to the current situation." The kitsune explained.

"You guys don't know how terrible the things that humanity has done until now are. That's what you can act like you're good people. If you saw that video, your sense of values would change! You'd say that humanity is not worthy of living. And that's why..."

"And that's why what?!" Yusuke snapped, kicking his chair away. "That's why all of mankind should be made into youkai chow?!" He raged.

"That's right! You still don't know what kind of creature you are! That's because you just happened to come to live someplace peaceful! But that's not the true nature of mankind! Have you ever seen a row of people being lined up to be killed? Have you ever seen someone being toyed with while they knew they were going to die the next day? Or the smiling faces of the humans who watched? Have you ever seen a mother whose children had just been killed in her arms? Or opposite her, the man who killed them, so light-hearted, with a look of perfect enjoyment on his face... Do you understand? Men can laugh as they torture and kill others people. I'm sure that even you could do so, you just haven't realized that." There was so much despair and conviction in his voice and expression that it affected Keiko who started sobbing. Shizuru took her away.

"So what? You realized that just now?" Akari said coldly, contemptuously. "Inquisition, witch hunts of all types, countless wars for countless reasons, tyrannies, repressions... without forgetting of course the common persecutions, corruption, or your usual bullies and deviants, and I'm not even talking about the underworld. You just have to open some history books or watch some documentaries, or even just the news. It's so simple and obvious. You're the one who assumed things on your own and got disappointed to find out you didn't live in a perfect world. Did you think you were a saint? And now are you trying to be god, pushing your views onto others and judging humanity yourself? You didn't have the toy you wanted so you decided to break it like some wilful pissed off brat?" She continued scathingly. Botan thought she was overdoing it but she was hell-bent on correcting that damn brat's twisted views. If no one properly explained things to him, he'd stay like this forever. And Kurama trusted his girlfriend. She knew that when people were lost or confused, a good 'slap' usually cleared their heads. "Indeed I am very selfish, and I can be very cruel. I've known that for years already. But unlike you, I have people who are important to me, with them I can learn about love and kindness. I want to live together with them. I would do anything for them. And that's also why I can be cruel to those who'd piss me off and those who would hurt them or mess with the place we live in, and I could sacrifice myself for them if need be. Grow up. Perfection doesn't exist. To love is to accept others as they are, find those whose flaws you can bear with, and whose qualities will overwrite those flaws. And that's the same for those guys." She gestured to her friends. At this, Kurama hugged her from behind. "It's your idiocy that appals me the most though. Are you really THAT stupid to believe that darkness and cruelty is all there is to mankind? Humans are capable of the worst AND the best. I'm sure you could make a White Chapter with all good deeds that could last just as long. It's up to humans to decide which way they want to live... Just like him..." She looked over at Kuwabara who was still sleeping despite the ruckus. Mitarai looked too and wavered.

"You know, I asked Kuwabara why he'd save someone like you. And what do you think he said? He said you looked like you were asking him to save you. At the time, I laughed about it, but looking at you now I understand. He made some excuse about saving you in order to get you to talk, but to be honest, he's just a fool." Urameshi put his arms behind his head, a small smile on his lips. "He's the kind of person you wouldn't like. But he still looked kindly to you." He said softly. Kiyoshi started sobbing before bursting into tears. Akari sat on the bed and petted the child's head and rubbed his back comfortingly before healing him again.

"When I sleep at night, I'm tormented by dreams about this video and I wake up! Just last night, the people who were killed were all looking in my direction. It was almost enough to make me feel like I had done it all. More and more, I look to myself like I'm some kind of filthy creature! I feel like I want to make amends for something, but I don't know what for... It feels like I'm going crazy! I just wanted someone to tell me what to do! It didn't matter who!" He cried, and hung onto the girl at his side, onto her warmth, onto her strength.

"He's harmless now." The fox concluded. Yusuke agreed.

"But really, the one who pisses me off the most is the bastard who manipulates poor, weak impressionable kids too nice for their own good while they just sit back and enjoy the show." Katsuyama bit her thumb, sounding very frustrated.

"Growing up means choosing for yourself and seeing through your decisions and their consequences. Mitarai-kun, you must rest now, so could you let go of Akari?" He spoke softly, kindly, but the light in his eyes made Kiyoshi let go instantly.

"Hey! What are you doing?!" The young pink-haired one angrily clamped her hands over her boyfriend's eyes. "I told you he's just a weak impressionable kid too nice for his own good! Don't go scaring him needlessly!"

"Yes, yes." The kitsune picked her up and walked away.

"Hey! Are you listening to me?!"

"Yes, yes."

"Stop mocking me you bastard!" The young female psychic yelled, the same color as a beetroot, vainly struggling to get away and get her point across, as Kurama walked away with her in his arms. People had made sure to stay at a safe distance so sparks wouldn't accidentally come flying at them and burn them. Yusuke sweatdropped. Well, even if Mitarai was 'just a weak impressionable kid too nice for his own good' and struck Akari's motherly instinct (whose existence was probably a miracle), they were still barely two or three years apart. That was Kurama alright. He too could be so merciless in some circumstances, notably when he was being possessive of his lover. He had become even better at subduing her too. That openly possessive expression on that stoic face really gave you the creeps.

"Sorry about that. He gets like that when Akari is concerned." Urameshi apologized to the injured. "It should be alright if you don't get too close to her. Anyway, rest up." He waved with a good-natured smile and left.

Akari and Kurama were leaning against the parapet of the balcony. The fox was sticking close behind his lover (who was still in a sour mood) and emprisoning her in his arms. Yusuke joined them. Botan had taken over comforting the crying child. The Reikai Tantei wondered whether the content of this video was really that awful. According to the demon, a regular person would probably change their outlook on humanity after only five minutes.

"Don't scare me like that! You're going to me all anxious you know!" The detective complained.

"Not to worry." The kitsune laughed. "As Akari said, in the end, wickedness is only one aspect of humanity. However, not everybody is as thick-skinned-... ah, no, as strong-minded as her, so it's no surprise he'd believe that's all there is to humanity. The contents of the Black Chapter are just that extreme, violent and miserable. As a result, I've heard that only a limited number of people even within the Spirit World can view-" He was interrupted by Akari's elbow in his ribs. He looked down. She was glaring at him. He looked sideways, and Yusuke was glaring at him. Kurama apologized, though both rei users were angry for different reasons. Akari disliked how insensitive he was implying her to be (although she WAS fairly insensitive). And Yusuke... Akari's right... that bastard's really trying to scare people, isn't he! ... was just as annoyed. "More importantly, I never told you where we went yesterday, right? Actually we went to see Koenma." The fox changed the subject.

"Koenma? You could have just used the Reikai TV."

"There was something I had to ask directly."

"Or he would have just eluded it. We had to make it so he wouldn't be able to run away..." Akari fiercely agreed.

"You make it sound so dangerous and terrible."

"Yesterday, his words were still vague but in view of that testimony just now, it's all become clear. Koenma knows the identity of the mastermind."

"WHAT?!"

"I'm about to go ask Koenma about-" But he stopped when he turned to face a Yusuke who was no longer there.

"Look here, you! Clear this all up for me! Depending on the explanation I'll get, I'll quit this job!" Furious, the detective threatened his boss on the Reikai TV.

"You miscalculated the speed and scope of his reaction." Katsuyama coolly told her boyfriend.

"I-it seems so..." Kurama agreed.

They quickly informed the Prince of what they had learned and Urameshi demanded to know why he had been keeping quiet all this time. It was true that Koenma didn't have any conclusive evidence... but his real reason was that he didn't want to believe it. He started with the conclusion. The mastermind's name was Sensui Shinobu, a man who was once a Reikai Tantei. That declaration shocked everyone. The toddler showed them a photo of Sensui when he was a Spirit Detective. He had been in high school at the time. Yusuke recognized the much younger version of the man he had seen in Mushiyori City. Junior told them he had been a man with a strong sense of justice, almost too scrupulous. He had disappeared about ten years ago. Right before that, there was something he was always saying. 'Is mankind worthy of living? Are they worth protecting?' He disappeared at the same time the Black Chapter video was found missing. He strongly advised Yusuke to be careful and informed them he was going to head for the human realm right away. He ended the communication.

Yusuke had a hard time believing that Sensui had been a Reikai Tantei and asked Botan about it since she was the one who contacted them but she had no clue. Urameshi had been her first job. She really hadn't been told a thing about the ones before him. Well, whatever, they'd hear it from Koenma.

"Sensui Shinobu... I'm not about to let that bastard mess away with the Ningenkai!" The Spirit Detective stood up and clenched his fists, full of determination.

"This is what you wanted." Kamiya gave a serynge with a red liquid to Sensui. The Doctor was in a cell. Dark Angel held the object aloft. When light pierced though, he saw a living thing moving inside the liquid. "It's preserved in my blood. I've modified it so that it feeds on spiritual energy won't disappear even I was to lose consciousness. If you inject her with it during a battle, it'll grow instantly."

"Do you want me to bust you out now?" Sensui put the serynge in his pocket, satisfied.

"No, I'll leave on my own later." The physician replied. Shinobu left.

I gave you a chance, Koenma. I waited until you had a replacement for me. How about we settle this? Let's see if humanity should live or die.
