For all of you who have read this far, than you so much. This has been both a lot of fun and a huge challenge for me so I appreciate your support. I hope to stay on schedule and post the 2020 and 2021 stories later this week but life happens and one busy day can throw the schedule off.
Disclaimer: I do want to mention that the song used in this chapter has faced a lot of criticism over the years. I didn't want to use it initially because of that controversy but I hope I have written in such a way that it is acceptable and simple flirtation and fun between our two ladies and nothing non-consensual. If you agree or disagree with what I wrote, please let me know because it is not my intent to offend anyone, just a little lighthearted pre-Christmas fun.
Christmas 2019
"What was that all about?" Kate asked as Caroline hung up the phone.
With a confused look on her face, "Well, it seems Mum and Alan would like to have Flora over their house this Friday…for the night."
"Why the look, that's nice, isn't it?"
"Kate, you are giving my mother too much credit. From what I understand, Raff and Ellie have a Christmas party so Gillian was going to watch Calamity but then she was able to pick up an extra shift so Alan said they'd watch her. Apparently my mother got upset because he didn't check with her and now, I think she wants to have Flora over because the girls will entertain one another and make it easier on them."
Kate wrapped her arms around her wife, "don't over think it; the way I see it, we get Friday night to ourselves. No Flora, no Lawrence, no William, no Gillian, Alan or Celia stopping by unexpectedly; just you and me, in this house all by ourselves and able to do whatever we want, wherever we want, whenever we want," with the last of the words punctuated by a kiss.
"When you put it that way, I guess it is nice," as Caroline's face lit up.
With Flora safe and sound with her grandparents, Kate and Caroline were able to do what they wanted, where they wanted and when they wanted, as often as they wanted, for Friday night at least.
Saturday morning, as Kate peered out the window, "Caroline, I don't think Flora is coming home for a while."
A still groggy Caroline asked, "why, what?"
"We had a bit of a storm last night; everything looks like it is covered in ice and snow and it's still coming down a bit. Not too much but a lot of wind."
A short while later, Caroline was ready to leave.
"Caroline, you aren't going anywhere. Call your mum. I bet the roads are bad everywhere right now."
"I need to go pick her up at 9:00 but I should give myself extra time to get over there."
Kate stopped her before she walked out the door. "Call your mother."
"She'll be upset if I'm late."
Kate pinned her wife against the door and began to kiss her and stopped once she had Caroline's attention. "The weather is bad, the roads are bad, no point in risking your safety or Flora's when it is bad out and we are all safe where we are at. Just think, at the very least, we get the morning out of this."
Caroline responded, "but…but…I should go."
Kate said, "but baby, it's cold outside."
(Caroline) Kate
(I really can't stay) But, baby, it's cold outside
(I've got to go away) But, baby, it's cold outside
(Last evening has been) Been hoping that you'd stay in
(So very nice) Together we'll find paradise
oOOOo
(My mother will start to worry) Beautiful, what's the hurry
(Well, Alan will be pacing the floor) Listen to the fireplace roar
(So really I'd better scurry) Beautiful, please don't hurry
(Well, maybe just a few kisses more) Anything for the woman I adore
oOOOo
(My mother might think) Baby, it's bad out there
(Say what's with that wink) No clear roads to be had out there
(I wish I knew how) Your eyes say you want more now
(To break this spell) I'll take you dear; I'll ring your bell
oOOOo
(I ought to say no, no, no, Kate) We can make your mum wait
(At least I can tell her that I tried) I wanna spend the day with my bride
(I really can't stay) Baby, don't make me pout
[Both] Baby, it's cold outside
oOOOo
The phone began to ring and Caroline walked to pick it up. "Okay, good. We'll call back later to talk with her."
"Your mum?"
"Yes. Alan was watching toe forecast and the roads will likely be bad all day. The girls have been good so they'll keep them another night."
Kate's face lit up like a Christmas tree.
oOOOo
(Kate) Caroline
(I guess you can stay) Baby, it's hot inside
(We have the whole day) Baby, it's hot inside
(The shift in plans has been) Look at your face with that grin
(So nice and warm) Look out the window at the storm
oOOOo
(I am feeling so ambitious) Gosh your lips look delicious
(I could take you right on the floor) Will you have me begging for more
(A bit rough but not too vicious) Gosh your lips are delicious
(But maybe make you cry out for more) All from the woman I adore
oOOOo
(My hands need to roam) But, baby, please touch me here
(I wanna make you float) I need you to touch me there
(Your wish is my command) Oh baby that feels grand
(But don't you see) How can you do this thing to me
oOOOo
(Wanna make you scream loud and low) I'm so very close you know
(Until you feel the stars collide) Baby it's been such a fun ride
(I love how we play) When you make me shout
[Both] Baby, it's hot
[Both] Baby, it's hot inside
oOOOo
By Sunday morning, they would have to go out into the cold but until then, they would remain wrapped around each other doing whatever they wanted, wherever they wanted and whenever they wanted.
Note: Baby, it's Cold Outside was originally written by Frank Loesser in 1940's to sing with his wife at a housewarming party...to encourage their guests to leave at the end of the night. It was popularized in the 1949 film Neptune's Daughter where there was a version with Esther Williams and Ricardo Montalbán. Later in the film, there was a parody version by Betty Garrett and Red Skelton where it is the man who wants to leave.
