(This is probably the last chapter I post before the release of episode 10)
The Heroic Capital, Bones
In the receptionist's office.
"Please, you have to let us through! This is an urgent matter!"
Two men were standing side to side, begging for the receptionist to listen to their plead. One was a young blonde man, the other was white bearded old one.
"I'm sorry, sirs. The Remnant Council currently isn't looking for any suggestions made by the public," the woman behind the counter replied in a bored voice.
"This is not a suggestion! This is a warning to all races! If we don't inform them in time, then the world may very well end soon!
"And we are not just ordinary people! We are explorers; those who explore ancient ruins to find the truth about the past!"
The woman couldn't even resist the urge to roll her eyes.
Really, what could be worse than the demon lord? Even if it came, the Great Nine would be able to send it running. The people in front of her were nothing more than country bumpkins who were skeptical of the might of the heroes.
She heard the buzz declaring the end of her shift. Without so much of a word, she quickly pulled the curtains and stood from her desk.
"Hey! Where are you going!? Wait. Wait!"
The old man put a hand on the blond man's shoulder.
"It's no use Caleb. None of them are willing to listen."
Caleb the explorer then fell silent.
"No," he refuted, "there might be another way to inform them."
Charles gasped, "You don't mean..."
"Yes. We tell them straight to one of the Great Nine."
"But which of the nine would listen to our plead. Who would we be able to find in the first place?" Asked the old explorer.
The blond man stayed paused for a minute before answering: "Elsa Dronn."
...
In the woods, far off from any large settlements, lies a large building often used a safehouse. On top of the entrance was the symbol of an egg with the letter 'M' over it.
In the office room. Dan Spear was smoking pipe while reading the reports. He then heard a knock coming from his door. He signal one of his bodyguards to open it.
The one who entered was the boss of the gang's branch in Rowlhart. The man immediately bowed.
"I am truly sorry, my lord. There were some unforseen circumstances in the battle," the boss was visibly sweating.
"So you still lost even after I sent you three of my fine men - Alfred, Beo and Lokia?" The lord's question struck him like lightning with every word.
"Y-yes. But I have a very good reason!"
"Hoh? Then enlighten me. You better hope your explanation bears weight. If not..."
The boss shook slightly when Lord Dan tailed off.
"There was actually a hidden master participating in the battlefield. You can ask any of the surviving men. Most will agree with my claim."
His claim was quickly proven true when the lord called over a few of them.
"Alright. You make a sound argument," the lord said.
"Thank you for understanding, my lord," he replied as he bowed deeply.
"You may go," he shooed the boss away.
"As you command."
After the man left, Dan called over one of his information gatherers.
"I want you to write down anything you find about this hidden master in the port's assault."
"Yes, sir. I'll go right away," a man who was covered in black from his boots until his lower mask received his order.
"Oh, and Volgoa, make sure you also find out who they're in contact with," Dan added.
"Of course, sir. I will take my leave now."
Dan nodded and focused back on his papers.
...
"You all did great, men! The town is saved thanks to all of you!"
The guards of Rowlhart cheered loudly.
Monty the Town Mayor returned to his manor after congratulating and rewarding all his men. He wanted to reward the woman who singlehandedly took out more than a fourth of the enemies, but when he asked for where she was, they said she already left for the road. There was nothing he can do.
Speaking of the heroine, he was reminded of the conversation he had earlier with one of the vice-captains of the garrison. It was with a man named Johnson.
At first, many people claimed he was the one who defeated the pirate captain, but when the mayor went to congratulate and reward him, he denounced the claims, with himself claiming it was one of the children of the orphanage who did it.
Sensing his disbelief, the man explained that the child had actually hidden the fact he had a skill and was only able to fully manifest it in the midst of battle.
When he also went to congratulate the boy and possibly also pull him to his side, he found out that the same heroine from before had taken him as a disciple.
Monty shook his head. The day just kept getting more and more bizarre. If it wasn't for the people telling him in unison, he would have never believed them.
Monty soon snapped out of his daydreaming and focused on writing a letter to the lord of the territory. To report about the port's condition and to tell him about a few key figures.
He wrote just what he thought about. The port, while burned, was able to be rebuilt rather quickly. While for the story of the heroes of the incident, the blue haired woman and the black haired eleven year old skill user quickly left the scene. He had described their appearances in hopes the lord would be able to recognize them and reward them.
He finished his letter, put it in an envelope, and set it to the messenger bird to go to the center of the Arcanus territory; the territory where the most advanced academy is present. Well, while the town was also part of the territory, nobody recognizes the territory for having Rowlhart Port Town in it.
...
The sun shined down upon Jack's bare tanned skin. Closing his eyes, he could hear animals in the forest moving; their padded movements on the ground, scratching on the wood, rustles on the leaves, and many others he neglected to mention. Though it was unfortunate he could not take in and enjoy the environment, for he was currently being hunted by none other than his teacher.
"Teacher," he dodged an attack that suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
"Teacher! Teacher, please stop! You'll kill me at this rate!"
To that, Rimuru-sensei just laughed and replied, "That's the idea, kid!"
"Waaahh!"
Yes. He missed this a lot.
(Okay, real talk. I was really dissatisfied with how chapter 3, 4 and 5 went. They were meant to set up for this chapter, but they felt really empty, especially after Johnson's introduction. I won't be fixing this any time soon, but I'll try to improve the quality in the next arc.)
(Also send me your ideas. I've been writing blind this entire time. I've literally been rolling dice to choose between which scenarios I should pick. So, more ideas would be highly appreciated.)
(Hope you enjoyed this intermission! Please leave a review on the things you either really liked or really hated in the story.)
