A Friendship Born
"psst!-Naegi"
"huh wha?"
Makoto shook his head, trying to get the sleepiness out of his nerves.
He had fallen asleep in class again. For the umpteenth time. Luckily his good ol' pal Izuku Midoriya had been there to wake him up before the teacher notices.
He swiftly wipes the drool from his mouth and continues to write down his notes.
"Thanks." he whispered. "Also, you can just call me Makoto. I'm more used to it."
Midoriya gave a quick nod and proceeded to listen to the lecture intently.
The two had slowly gotten to know each other over the next few days. Midoriya was a little timid at first, but they finally came to a point where he had actually warmed up to Makoto.
Makoto on the other hand, had quickly learned that Midoriya is very observative and passionate when it comes to quirk analysis. I mean, he even has multiple notebooks on it!
It was a little strange but Makoto can't help but feel quite impressed at the feat.
And it was during this exact conversation where Midoriya asked Makoto more about his quirk.
Makoto flinched at that. Although luckily it seemed to have gone unnoticed.
"Well..." he began. He really should have thought about his response beforehand. After all he literally had just received this quirk very, very recently. "I kind of...haven't- don't really know much about it."
"Really? Why not?"
"Well, it's just..." Damnit think of something. "I didn't really know I had a quirk until much later on."
Wow. He really does need to work on that lying.
"Oh! so you're a late bloomer!"
"N-Yes!" ...What's a late bloomer?
"A late bloomer is a person whose quirk appeared later than the average person."
"Oh." He accidentally said that out loud. "To be honest, I don't really know much about my quirk."
"How come?"
He sure loves to ask questions.
"Well I don't know. I guess it's just that I didn't..." His eyes wandered around as he tried to formulate words. "...know I had a quirk till I...did." He smiled a smile that seemed a little too big.
"Huh..." Midoriya held his chin in thought. "Oh! I get it! You thought you didn't have a quirk but you ended up finding out you did but much later in life!" Izuku exclaimed like he had just found an answer to a particularly difficult riddle.
"EXACTLY!" Makoto shouted. "I mean- exactly." He said again, a lot less loud than the last.
"If that's the case-" Midoriya began, but he stopped abruptly when a far off look appeared on his face.
"Umm, Midoriya?" Makoto asked, his brow creased in worry.
Midoriya seemed unresponsive to the hand Makoto waved in front of him until he gasped sharply.
"I just had a great idea!"
"What is it?"
"We can find out more about your quirk together!"
"You mean, you actually want to help me figure out my quirk?"
"Of course I do! We can investigate!"
Midoriya scribbled down something in his notes. Probably something they can do for a test.
He sure seems incredibly excited.
Makoto's never seem him with this much energy before.
"But where are we going to hold these...tests?" Makoto said, voicing his concerns.
Midoriya's notetaking stopped as he took a second to think. "We can go to my place. Is that alright with you Naegi?"
"Hmm, alright. I'll let my parents know."
They agreed on a time and the day went on uneventfully.
To say Midoriya was excited would be a huge understatement.
He was well beyond just excited. And it wasn't just him either.
When he told his mom a friend was coming over, she straight up and hugged him to death. She ended up saying things like, "I'm so glad my little Izuku finally got a friend over." and etc.
She even offered to prepare an extra special dinner just for the occasion. "Nonsense." she said, when Midoriya insisted she really didn't need to.
Knowing he'll be fighting a losing battle, he inevitably gave up trying to change her mind and entered his room.
He stopped dead in his tracks at the doorway.
It felt incredibly cold all of a sudden.
And a sense of dread had creeped up on him from seemingly out of nowhere.
Snaking it's way from his fingers and all the way up to his dry throat.
He gulped.
He had come to the utmost horrible realization.
Makoto's definitely going to see how much of a fanboy of All Might he is!
He flushed red in embarrassment. There's no way he could possibly hide all his figurines, posters, and plushies! Oh all the plushies!
So much for first impressions on his room.
He heaved a sigh. Guess there's no avoiding it.
And so, he went to work on cleaning up his room. After all, he seldom had someone come over. Scratch that, he's never had anyone come over.
That thought actually made him nervous. What do friends even do when they hang out at a friend's place?
Midoriya shook the thought away. He and Makoto are friends now, it's probably best for conversation to take on a natural pace.
