Symbiotic Relationship

Chapter 2 – Keep your friends close

Gotham City High School – Gotham City

It knew it, it knew it all, its host is called Barbara Gordon, 16 years old, daughter of Jim Gordon the police commissioner, she is a student, a student is a person who goes to a place called the school, a place where they learn to survive when they reach adulthood.

Now that they were completed bonded, Barbar's thoughts, her emotions, and her body reactions were also its own. It studied her memories, her knowledge told it that what they have is a symbiosis, a term used for any type of a close long-term biological interaction between two different biological organisms.

It liked it, its name would no longer be goo or mud, it decided to call itself symbiote based on the word used to describe the relationship they have.

The symbiote had a plan, now that it had all the memories of its host it knew what should be done, cure her of her paralysis, when its host saw that her legs could move once again, she would love it, and would never want to be separated from it.

The plan had merit but now that the symbiote not only knew her but also what she knew it couldn't be done in a carefree way, no, it needed to be sneaky, it needed to plan, and it would take a long time, but it wouldn't matter, Barbara was young and thanks to the symbiote she could probably live more than ten times the lifespan of a normal human, and she would live more than a normal human.

The symbiote knew that its kind when bonded with a host started to develop emotions towards them and personalities based on their own, and Barbara's emotions and personalities made it feel good, her determination to still go on even with her injury, her courage to fight criminals unarmed and risk death every night, her hopes for a better future, it tastes sweet and the symbiote would repay her handsomely for such feelings she was feeding it.

For now, the symbiote needed nutrients, the ones that Barbara could provide and the kinds that she couldn't, the former wasn't going to be a problem, the latter neither, but it could never be too careful. Soon lunchtime would begin according to Barbara's knowledge and when it ends the symbiote would make sure to start repaying her even if she doesn't know it.

Barbara was feeling hungry, more than she ever felt and the tray she was carrying showed it.

There could be at least 750g of food on her plate, yellow rice, baked potatoes, sauced steak, and peas with corn cream scattered around it, there was a little salad composed of tomatoes and lettuce seasoned with salt and olive oil sure, but they shy in comparison. As if it wasn't enough, she had a 500ml cup filled with soda and two chocolate bars for 'deserts' or so she says.

"What?!" Barbara asks Peter that's looking at her with a face showing a mix of confusion and doubt.

"I'm just surprised. Are you sure you didn't skip breakfast this morning Barbara?" Peter sounds calm, but considering the look of tiredness Barbara had early she notices the worry in his tone.

"Now that you mention it, I think I did. *sigh*. I didn't sleep well last night... Did you ever dream you're suffocating and wake up gasping for air Peter?".

Peter takes a moment to think about his friend's question, sure he had a dream like that once or twice in the past but he wanted to know why the sudden question.

"Yes. I think I did. Did something like this happen?".

Barbara opens her mouth to answer remembering what happen or what she thought happened the last night, but with the thought also came back the feelings, she doesn't remember much after she fell but she remembers feeling good with pleasure spreading from her jawline to her nether regions and a small blush appears on her face which she shoves away before Peter could notice with a little shake of her head.

"No, I mean. Yes. I had one of those last night. That's why I've been a little 'out' this morning." She didn't like lying to Peter, but to be fair she also didn't know what exactly was the truth.

'It's not like I can say; A red goo appeared in my bathroom last night and jumped on me, covering my entire body.' Barbara tells herself inside her mind.

Not wanting to continue this conversation Barbara starts to dig her food, this way she could at least use the excuse that it's impolite to speak with her mouth full.

While eating Barbara feels a strange sensation, the food she's been eating was satisfying her appetite and hunger but for some reason, she wasn't feeling her belly being fulfilled, and unless she developed some way to digest the food immediately after consuming it, she had no idea why.

Putting her thoughts aside after hearing the school bell she looks at her plate and wonder for a moment how she ate all of that food and why she felt the need to eat those chocolate bars above all.

"I'm surprised you ate all of that, seriously, are you one of those people who can eat all day and never get fat?" Peter asked with a humorous expression while behind Barbara pushing her wheelchair.

"After today, I think I might be he-he. I thank you for the sentiment Peter, but I can pull my weight around, you don't need to help me all the time." She says with a cocky smile feeling the same mood her friend was feeling.

"Are you sure?" The concern in his voice makes Barbara smile at Peter and only nods in response.

With Peter now walking at her side she looks at him while they go to their next class. 'Why there aren't more guys like him?'.

The host was now watching what was called English class, English was the language the host speak, and one of the many that existed in this world. The symbiote would have to learn everything the host learns and that's why now after the host had fed herself the symbiote has absorbed the necessary quantity of nutrients to make the change in its host body for the time being.

To learn everything the host learns was easy since they share the same mind and thoughts now, the hard part is to make the host learn. One of the symbiotes' many abilities is to collect, save, copy, change and modify the DNA of every species in the universe thanks to it being on every molecule on the host's body.

Its main objective now is to make the host's body better, using the host memories the symbiote learns about marvelous individuals, and the most potential candidates to better its host body are selected from those, the first is the super-hero known as Superman, according to its host he is a Kryptonian from a doomed planet called Krypton, their species are capable of innumerous things while absorbing radiation from a yellow sun, like super-strength, super-speed, and heat vision, but they also have the ability of super-hearing which can make then weak or vulnerable to high-frequency and continuous sound-waves and since the symbiote is already weak to those using the Kryptonian DNA to better its host was risky. It would still collect it if it had a chance of course but wouldn't use it unless its host wanted.

The second option was the female superhero called Wonder Woman, an Amazon from an island called Temischyra, just like the Kryptonian she has immense strength and speed but unlike him, she hadn't any known weakness or at least not one that stands out. Her DNA would be really useful for its host. Of course, just like the Kryptonian, the symbiote would need consent from its host to make the changes but it will definitely collect her DNA if they ever met. The only downside was the fact she was a magic being, so even if it collect Wonder Woman's DNA there was a chance none of her abilities would be taken since they could be because of the magic, not her blood.

For now, the symbiote couldn't reach the two super-humans, or meta-human, as they are called by this world's habitants, but it could still improve its host to a certain degree thanks to her feeding a few moments ago.

The first part the symbiote decides to change is the host's brain, in this world, the survivor of the fittest comes in second. In this world, intelligence was above strength, but luckily for its host, the symbiote could improve both. Thanks to the food Barbara consumed the changes are now possible, and it was time to get it done.

The process starts and the symbiote without a problem modifies Barbara's brain little by little, like a river, the symbiote flows through her brain to make it better and do things it wasn't able before. Her muscle memory and motor capacity would make her learn everything at peak of human capacity, giving her the ability to learn and record everything she sees with just a look, even if it is something that it would take years to learn. Eidetic memory would be just the start, response time would also be at its peak, and even if she didn't know the answer, she could be aware of the question before it was even finished.

After finishing English class, it was time for the last class of the day, math, and feeling tired already Barbara gives a loud yawn, she was bored and, in an attempt to pass the time, she starts to flip the pages of her math book until it reaches the end.

"Ms. Gordon. Since you look so disinterested today, I assume you already know the subject of today's study, so could you answer it for the class." The teacher asks in a rigid tone failing to hide his discontentment with Barbara.

"B equal -2 plus A divided by 9." Barbara's voice was so monotonous she didn't realize everyone was looking at her strangely when she answered.

With all eyes on her, the teenager starts to feel uncomfortable with the stares. She just answered a question why is that so surprising she doesn't know.

"Ms. Gordon, I just taught this subject today, would you mind explaining how not only did you answer correctly, but apparently already know the subject?".

Her teacher was serious by the sound of his tone.

"I studied yesterday.". A lie. Barbara didn't study, the closest she came to reading the math book until now was just a few seconds ago when she was flipping the pages one by one giving nothing but a simple glimpse at them.

Not convinced but with no proof the teacher turns back to the board to continue his lesson.

Barbara felt a little jolt at the realization. She did nothing but flip the pages, but for some reason, she knew what was in each one of them, what they spoke of, and how to proceed with the calculations when she stopped to think about the book. Unless Einstein's ghost was giving her tips, she doubts even she was that smart.

'Okay, this is nothing.' She tells herself hoping it was nothing. 'If page 147 talks about Hodge Conjecture like I "remember" then I will think is something'.

It was something. When Barbara opened the math book on page 147 and saw her assumption was correct, she didn't know if gasp or shock would fit her open mouth. For some reason, she remembered an entire math book that she didn't read and just leafed through.

'Either I awoke my geniuses or become a fast learner. Definitely going to test this when I reach home.'.

Closing the book and turning back her attention to class the former batgirl gives a small sigh and return to her student duties, whatever is happening to her it was better to see when she was alone, not in front of Peter and a hundred other bystanders.

Oscorp - New York

Norman Osborn could count on one hand the number of times his son Harry made him proud. The first time was in junior high when Harry's soccer team won the championship thanks to his son's effort. The second time was today.

Norman was giving his son a tour through Oscorp after Harry's recently and welcomed interest in science.

'I bet I should thank Parker for that'. Thought Norman.

When Norman first met Peter Parker, he saw in the boy what he wanted in a son, intelligence, thirst for knowledge, and immense interest in science. He was disappointed when he moved to Gotham since he wanted to offer the kid an internship at Oscorp to further develop his talents, but the fact that he made his son interested in his work was also a welcome farewell gift.

"So, son, tell me. Where did this sudden interest in science come from?" Asks Norman with genuine interest.

"It was at the science fair last year. I had this childish idea to make a biological formula to make potatoes grow faster so Peter and I wouldn't have to buy french fries on fast foods anymore." Harry says with a self-pitied tone. "Instead of laughing he found the idea interesting and because of that, we decide to create a formula that would make vegetables grow at a faster rate, so I guess it was because Peter liked my idea instead of mocking me.".

Norman gives his son a nod and a small smile, yes, the motive behind the idea was childish, but the idea itself was brilliant, vegetables growing at a fast pace could help to end world hunger and more food could be stocked on the seasons where the soil is unable to grow food.

"And did it work?" Asks Norman, a science fair was something he normally would pay attention but due to Lexcorp and Empire Enterprise's daring to expand to New York and trying to steal Oscorp's clients he needed to lock himself in his work to give Lex Luthor and Veronica Cale a humility lesson, a lesson he succeeded and enjoyed.

'At least Bruce Wayne has the decency to do it honestly'.

"More than we wanted actually." Says Harry looking at an experiment being conducted by Doctor Otto Octavius. "The formula we created ended up making a bowling ball-sized potato. It looked like one of those plants that supervillain in Gotham creates.".

Norman hums in response, a giant potato wasn't impressive on its own accord, but that formula could indeed be valuable. He doesn't speak for the moment and just looks at the experiment with his son. Dr. Octavius' project was to create artificial appendages that could be controlled by a person's brain and replace lost limbs people would need if they want to live a normal life.

"Do you still have the formula?" Asks Norman still looking at the experiment.

"Here it is." Says Harry taking a piece of paper out of the pocket of his shirt and giving it to his father before turning back to the experiment and seeing Dr. Octavius successfully using two robotic arms to open a soda can and pouring the liquid on two glass bottles without a single drop falling out of it.

After the experiment is over Norman processed the tour with his son looking at the paper with the formula to create giant potatoes. "So, how much of this came out of you and how much came out of Peter?".

"It's mostly me if you believe it." Says Harry blushing. "Peter wanted to create a chemical formula that would make a rope that possessed the strength of steel but the elasticity of nylon.".

"Don't be shy, son. Both ideas have potential and place to be used." Says Norman looking at the formula and happy to know it was his son who made most of the work. "It is a very complex study you put into this, was it hard to reach the final stage?".

"Yes, it was." Says Harry as if he was sweating. "Peter made me work hard for it since it was my idea we would go with and not his.".

"Good." Says Norman putting the paper in his pocket and looking his son in the eyes. "I am a man who believes you should gain only what you work hard to get.".

They resume their tour with Harry paying attention to every project they pass through, if Norman's hopes were not crushed like so many times in the past, Harry would continue his legacy and bring Oscorp to new horizons in the future.

"Tell me, son." Says Norman with a serious face but calm tone while walking with Harry at his side. "What did Peter and you did to accomplish your project?".

"Well. Basically, I write the formula and test, after every test and failure Peter would go through my notes and see where it had gone wrong, and point it out to me so I could correct it. When the project reached its conclusion, he tried to convince me to take all the credit even with his help, but in the end, I managed to convince him since he helped me to see the errors and correct them.".

"Very good." Says Norman smiling at his son. "Learning from your mistakes is a proof of improvement. And the way Peter did it by showing where the error is but not saying what it is, is the best way to teach. You did good son.".

"Thanks, father." Says Harry not shy anymore and smiling while looking at his father in the eyes.

"Well, since you work hard on it, I guess I should go along with this plan." Says Norman taking the note out of his pocket and giving it a look one more time.

"What plan." Ask Harry confused about what his father was going to do.

"Well, if this formula really works on every type of vegetable?! It could be a real boom to Oscorp and put us a step ahead on Lexcorp and Wayne Entreprises.".

"You will really use my idea?" Says Harry with shiny eyes like a puppy.

"Of course. As I say, the uses it could have, are many." Says Norman putting a hand on his son's shoulder. "And I want you to participate in this.".

"Really?". Harry was really happy, it was probably the first time his father give him so much attention and time in his busy schedule, and now he is even favoring one of his ideas.

"I know you still have school." Says Norman with a nod of understanding. "And I know you still have a social life with your friends. But I want you to be here every Sunday to participate in this project. Think of this as your first test and challenge to be a part of Oscorp and the scientific world. That is. If you want to.".

"Yes, I do." Says Harry not knowing at this moment he made Norman Osborn a happy and proud father.

"Now son. Tell me about this Mary Jane Watson I keep hearing you talk about…".

Apartment 616 - Gotham City

Peter Parker's life in the last few months has been agitated, his uncle Benjamin Parker had been fired from his job and the tuition of midtown high was gonna be raised in the next year. Luckily due to his great scores and many extracurricular achievements, the Gotham City High School offered him a scholarship so paying for school wasn't a problem anymore.

Of course, living in New York was a real big obstacle if he wanted to go to school in Gotham City. The only reason his Uncle Ben and Aunt May probably agreed to move was that he was being fired and refused to let Peter stay behind on his education and didn't think twice about selling his house and buying an apartment on Gotham.

The apartment wasn't much, two rooms, a bathroom, and a kitchen that would also have to be used as a living room, but with a rent of only 150$ a month, it would do.

Another factor that helped was that the so-called Parker's Luck had given his family a truce for the time being as Uncle Ben had found a job as an electrician on Wayne Enterprises. Considering they were in a new town with no acquainted people or connections it could be said luck was smiling at them for the moment.

After a long day at school, and Barbara showing an incredible understating of math and calculations Peter arrives at his new home and is received by the sweet smell of apple pie and the smiles of his uncle and aunt and just smiles at them in response.

"So, champion. How was your day at school?" Asks Uncle Ben with a happy voice while stopping his reading of the newspaper.

"It was good. Barbara understood quickly the new theme of the lesson and the teacher thought she was cheating." Says Peter almost out of breath for having come running on the way home and trying to take off his backpack and shoes at the same time.

"Oh. Barbara again. Looks like our nephew is really growing Ben." Says Aunt May while putting the pie on the table. "She must be very special to you. I can't remember a day you don't talk about her ever since we moved to Gotham.".

"AHAHAHAHA." Uncle Ben's laugh was one of understanding. "May. Leave the poor boy alone. You know how boys are at this age.".

"I know how you were at this age, Ben Parker." Says the sweet woman with a smirk on his face before proceeding to kiss her husband on the forehead.

"How was it at work uncle Ben?". Asks Peter taking his contacts lenses and putting on his glasses.

"Oh. It was great. I've met Bruce Wayne. Can you believe it?".

Peter's mouth was open with a zero shape. Bruce Wayne was one of his personal heroes of the modern-day, his creations at Wayne Tech were incredible, most notable were the smartphones and computers which were used in most workplaces in America and even by streamers on the internet who made their lives doing advertisements to Wayne Enterprises.

"And how was he like?" Asks Peter closing his mouth before saliva comes out of it.

"A good man. When I finished fixing one of the energy cables, he made a point of being the one to thank me himself.". Says Ben proud of doing his job and helping a man in need.

"Cool.".

"Yeah. I know." Says Ben turning back to his newspaper which featured the famous Batman on the front page. "I guess every now and then even us small folk gets the chance to shine.".

"Will I get a chance one day, Uncle Ben?".

"Of course, you will." Says May cooking dinner. "You are the smartest kid in the world and will do great things in the future peter.

When Peter sees his aunt smiling at him, he turns to see his uncle who nods and also smiles.

"Thank you, aunt may.".

"You don't need to thank me, sweetie. All I said was the truth." Says May with a smile turning back to the pan.

"I wish Richard and Mary were here. They would be so proud of you." Says Ben with a little sorrow.

"Me too." Says Peter starting to feel a little sad at the mention of his deceased parents. "Did they ever tell what they were doing?".

Richard and Mary Parker worked for the government at a specific division, which, Ben and May didn't know. The last time Ben saw his brother was when he left Peter with him and his wife saying they were going overseas for work and never came back.

"No Peter." Says Aunt May with the same tone as her husband. "They never talked too much about their jobs. That plane crash was a real tragedy.".

After May finished speaking the mood in the room died and a long silence now was in the air.

Peter decides to go to his room and study until dinner was ready, after seeing how good Barbara did in math class earlier in the day he didn't want to fall behind.

"Seriously. How did she learn it so fast?" Peter asks scratching his cheek with the pen.

Gordon Residence – Gotham City

Sitting on her chair Barbara finishes her math book, but unlike in class she read it all instead of just peaking page by page and feeling nervous, she somehow remembers every page and picture of the book, word by word, and the only reason she didn't freak out yet was that she didn't learn by just looking at it, but it didn't change the fact that she learned a whole trimester in a single day.

"I don't know what to feel right now." She says to herself with a nervous voice while taking her glasses off to scratch the bridge of her sone.

"I need a bath.".

Thinking a shower would cool her head Barbara goes to the bathroom trying for now to forget the fact she could probably learn all her classes in a week for some reason she didn't know.

When she starts to undress Barbara looks again at her blue lingerie and remembers she did throw it away after her break up with Dick. She sighs tiredly not wanting to know how she was wearing it now that she already has the book on her mind.

When Barbara's hands reach for the bra to take it off it somehow enters her skin and startles her, she looks at the mirror and sees her bare chest which was dressed seconds ago. Barbara nervous touches her breasts and nipples slowly and feels her skin and nothing more as if her bra was never there.

Barbara thinking of what is happening slowly approaches her hand to her pantie but before she touches it also enters her skin like it was absorbed just like her bra.

Not knowing what to do or think Barbara just stares shocked at the mirror for a few seconds. After a whole minute, the former Batgirl takes a deep breath and thinks about what just happened.

'I wanted to take my clothes off and then they entered inside my body' She thinks in the hope that it would answer her doubts. 'It happened when I tried to take it off…'.

Barbara closes her eyes and takes another deep breath and when she opens them again, she once again is surprised. When she opened her eyes, she was dressed again in the blue lingerie she was dressing before.

"I just imagined myself getting dressed." She says shocked at her reflection. "How did I end up dressing it again?".

After other several deep breaths, Babara regains her composure and looks at the underwear she is wearing. When she wanted and thought to undress her underwear disappeared, and when she thought of getting dressed again she was wearing it once again.

'Okay. Let's test it again.' She tells herself.

This time Barbara imagines dressing in her old Batgirl costume but with her eyes open. As if made of red water the underwear undo itself and starts stretching itself until it covers Barbara's whole body except her eyes and mouth and the red turns to black and yellow.

Barbara once again had no words, here she was dressing as Batgirl and when she touches her uniform, she feels the same material her old costume used to be off.

Thinking about how and why this is happening a sudden click goes throughout Barbara's brain.

"It's you. Isn't it?" She asks looking at her uniform. "That red goo from yesterday. You are the one who is doing this, aren't you?".

Her uniform changes again, but this time not with her thoughts, the black and yellow turn into red and black, and just like yesterday it starts to cover all of Barbara's body.

Unlike the night before Barbara isn't scared, at least not how she thinks she should be. This thing has been inside her the whole day so if it wanted her dead she would be.

After Barbara's whole body is covered, she looks at herself from foot to head, unlike yesterday the strange goo wasn't restricting her movements, nor blocking her respiratory channel, she looks at her arms and touches them with each hand. Barbara proceeds to touch her chest, belly, and thighs and it feels like her own skin. As if she was naked and clothed at the same time.

Each second Barbara spent with this thing on her body made her calmer and calmer, like there was a voice in her head, telling her the how and why. Making her understand everything about this thing in her body. She touches her face and slowly caresses the red goo on it while at the same time feeling her own skin touch.

After a few seconds, Babara approaches her face in the mirror and with just a single thought the red goo leaves her face while still covering her neck and bellow.

After another few seconds the red goo changes again, first into her batgirl costume one more time, then a dress she wanted her father to buy, and last into a leather jacket just to make a final test.

The thing on Barbara's body not only could imitate the appearance it wanted, but it could also replicate the material. Barbara wanted to scream, panic and get out of there, but she was calm, and if her theory is right somehow this… suit was talking to her.

"Can you talk?" She asks while the suit goes back into her body leaving her back on her birth suit.

She feels a 'yes' on her head and smiles at her reflection. She felt like all her questions were answered in her mind, and any question that would pop out she knew it would be answered.

'Not gonna lie, this is really cool.'

Not having any more questions, for the time being, Barbara enters the shower, wanting to test what else this thing could do.

When the water drops and her body is completely wet Barbara extends her body towards the soap and sponge to clean herself and two red tentacles come out of her back and take it, delivering it to her hands. While washing her body she imagines her hands spreading and rubbing the shampoo on her hair and immediately the two tentacles do it and start to brush it while she still cleans her body.

After leaving the shower Barbara tries to reach for the towel in the hopes the suit would once more reach it for her but to her surprise, it doesn't do it. Instead, it dries her skin and hair in an instant. Barbara looks at the mirror and sees her skin and hair were much smoother than ever and before she notices a red towel is formed on her body covering her and she can't stop herself from smiling at the view.

'I can definitely live with this.'.

Author's note: I have no excuse for the delay. I'm lazy and do this for fun, so when I'm not having fun writing delays happen. I hope you can understand.

Now about the story. I was getting a little ahead of myself when I said Peter would not become spider-man. I didn't even plan that far for this story. So to make things more clear. He will become spider-man, just not in this first arc where I will focus on Barbara becoming Batgirl again.

To simplify what the symbiote did to her, IT was basically giving her Taskmaster's ability to learn and copy everything he sees at first sight. If you are afraid of the symbiote touching Superman and Wonder Woman and Barbara ending up becoming an OP powerhouse don't worry, Batman comics' appeal is always the battle of brains and human limitations so that's how I'm gonna keep it.

About Norman personalitiy. I'm going with the serious businessmen but not heartless. The reason is simple; I wanted to make him more friendly so he can look tragic and more a**hole when he becomes the Green Goblin.
