I don't own Home Alone
Enjoy!
AvidMovieFan16: Hello there! Thank you for your reviews. I was planning to focus on Becky, Kevin, and the bandits, just like in Part I, but I will see how I can put in Kate's reaction in this chapter. Thank you for the suggestion!
Kevin felt his stomach doing a summersault when the plane began to descend. He took off his headphones, pinched his nose, and blew to relieve his eardrum. He looked over at Becky, who had been sleeping soundly throughout this whole trip. She didn't even wake up when a stewardess came over to their seat and offered them a snack. Kevin had taken the liberty and got two small packets of pretzels and stuffed them in his bag. Perhaps they were going to get hungry on their way to the hotel and it was better to have something instead of waiting until dinner. He reached over and lightly shook her awake. "Becky," he whispered to her, "the plane is landing, wake up."
Feeling a hand on her arm, Becky's eyes fluttered open as she lifted her head off the window sill and looked at her brother. "You were right," she yawned and performed a little stretch, "that went faster that I expected." She felt that sudden pang in her stomach as the plane began its final descent and she leaned her head against the chair in front of her. Don't throw up, don't throw up.
Kevin tilted his head to the side and looked at his sister. "You okay?" he asked her.
"Mm-hmm," she nodded her head, "just post-flight jitters is all."
At least it's all over now Kevin thought once the plane's wheels touched onto the runway and after a while, it came to a complete stop. After a while, the passengers began to get up from their seats and file out the airplane. Kevin took a hold of his bag as Becky held onto hers and they walked out of the airplane and into the airport. Kevin kept his eyes peeled if he saw any of his siblings but so far, he didn't see anyone of them. Becky's eyes scanned around the crowd to see if she could locate anyone but no one familiar stuck out to her.
"Mom!" Kevin began calling out. It was better to do that than just search for them. "Dad!...Uncle Frank...Buzz?"
Becky looked from left to right, hoping that anyone in the family would turn their heads and look their way but no one responded to those names. "Kevin," she softly spoke to her brother as she clutched on her stomach, "I have a bad feeling about this."
Kevin glanced over at his sister and noticed that she looked a little pale. He walked her over to one of the chairs and sat down with her. "Don't worry," Kevin said as he saw her leaning forward and resting her head on her hands, "mom and dad are around here somewhere. I'm gonna take a look," he said as he went over to the terminal and saw two stewardesses walking outside.
"We're the last ones off the plane," one of them said to the clerk.
Kevin was taken aback when he saw them. "Where are those guys?" he whispered to himself before heading over to Becky who looked like she was going to have a breakdown any minute. No it can't be Kevin thought when a realization dawned onto him. We were running after dad and got on the same plane as him. If he could locate their father, then maybe they would reach the whole family. Turning to his left, Kevin noticed the same caramel colored coat that he and Becky had followed. There he is Kevin brightened as he quickly headed over to him. "Dad!" he exclaimed.
The man turned around when he heard that word being directed towards him. "You talking to me, son?" the man asked as he looked at the little boy before him.
A small gasp escaped Kevin's lips. The last he remembered, Peter McCallister didn't have a mustache. "Sorry," Kevin apologized, "I confused you with someone else."
He quickly walked away from the man and over to Becky. As he approached his sister, he looked out the windows and noticed tall architectural buildings and what was the statue of liberty doing in Florida? That statue only belonged in...wait a minute! Kevin whipped his head over to Becky. "Look out the window."
Becky shook out of her trance and glanced over at the window. Tall buildings, Statue of Liberty..."Oh geeze," Becky feared as she ran a hand over her face, "we're in New York."
Kevin felt his stomach falling when Becky said that. Yikes, I did it again he thought to himself. His wish, yet again, to be away from his family had come true and now he was all alone in one of the biggest cities in the world. When his parents found out that he and Becky were missing, he could definitely foresee Kate screaming their names. "Oh no," he finally found the words, "our family's in Florida and we're in New York."
Upon those words, Becky shook her head as she looked at Kevin. "We have to let someone know about this," she said to him. "Our family must be worried sick." Knowing how worrisome their mother could get, and even if Becky was unhappy with her from the events of last night, she didn't want to cause any stress on their parents. "I'm going to see if I can talk to security about this."
As she was about to get up from her seat, Kevin pulled her back. "Becky," he said as she sat back down in her seat, "our family's in Florida and we're in New York."
Knowing that mischievous look in her brother's eyes, Becky knew what he was planning. If I had my own money, I'd go on my vacation alone, without any of you guys. And I'd have the most fun in my whole life were the words that Kevin had said to his mother last night and those words had come true. They were in New York, alone, and it was the holiday season and if Becky was being true to herself, it was a better alternative to Florida. "I know that look Kevin," she said to him as he waggled his eyebrows at her.
"Of course you do," Kevin said to her as he jumped out of his seat, "get your things together, Becky. We're going to explore New York!"
"I," Becky began as Kevin looked at her, "I think it's best if we stay here. You know, in case we need to contact mom and dad."
While his sister did have a point, Kevin did not want to waste a single second in this airport where he could be having the best vacation of his life. Then again, didn't his mother last night say that he got his wish last year and would get the same wish this year? He got it and he was not going to waste a single second of it. Why wait for his family, when they didn't care about his feelings last night? "That's fine," Kevin said to her with a shrug of his shoulders, "I'm going to take a taxi and explore New York." He turned on his heel and was about to walk away when he felt Becky grabbing him by the arm.
"Wait just a second," she said to him, "New York is a big city. We're going to get lost! What makes you think that the minute we step out there, we're going to survive?"
Taking a deep breath, Kevin placed a hand on his sister's shoulder and looked at her. "Becky...sweet and simple Becky," he said and received a sharp glare from his sister, "how did we survive last year?"
"Last year was a different story because we were home," Becky answered him.
"And we will find a place in New York and stay until our parents find us," he said to her, "and until they do, I am not going to stay another second in this airport when I could be having the greatest vacation of my life out there. So," he said as he took his hand off her shoulder and looked at her, "are you coming or not?"
Becky slumped her shoulders. Why was it that her youngest brother had to use this form of trickery on her? Or was she just that gullible? Being the youngest in the family sure had it's advantages and Kevin was using them to the fullest. "I hate you Kevin," she simply said to him.
"Sure you do," Kevin said, "I know you're scared, but I'll take care of you."
"That's funny because I'm the one that should be taking care of you," she pointed at him.
"Not this year," he said as he dodged her hand from being pushed. He walked over to one of the airport clerks as she looked at the two siblings. "One taxi for New York City please."
The airport clerk rose an eyebrow that such a young child would be placing an order. "Do you have an adult to accompany you?" she asked him.
"We're with our dad. He is busy getting our bags," Kevin explained, "so he told me to ask for a taxi. He has a business meeting that he has to get to and is running a little late."
The airport clerk looked at the siblings before getting on the phone with the airport taxi. As for Becky, she knew that Kevin tended to lie every now and then but to create a story from thin air and look at an adult straight in the eye was another. At least with her brother's clever thoughts, they may just survive through this holiday season in New York. That is...if nothing and no one got in their way.
