I don't own Home Alone
Enjoy!
Sleeping in these abandoned buildings had both its advantages and disadvantages. It provided a platform where Harry and Marv could sleep, but the sharp cold and the noises that came from the outside were loud enough to keep them awake for a mere couple of hours. Harry hated to be sleeping out in the streets, but they had to make do with what they had for now. It would have been nice to be inside a cozy apartment like they once were back in Chicago but it showed that not all good things could last. It was a part of his life that he missed, yet considering how things had turned out, he was glad that he was away from it. He squinted when the morning hours of the day threatened his sleep, so he got up from the floor to plan out what he and Marv could do. Just because they had escaped from New York, did not mean that they were going to leave empty handed. This place was the economic center of America, but that did not mean that they would go to just a random house, rob it, and pawn it off. They had to be a little more calculated and ensure that nothing would stand in their way. The morning newspapers always had some sort of suggestion that he could look through in the morning.
"Hey Mar-" he was about to call out when he noticed that the taller bandit was nowhere to be seen. "Where did that idiot go?" he mumbled to himself. Either he was hiding somewhere in the other rooms of this building or he had decided to go down to the ice rink without him. Sometimes, Marv's child-like personality irritated Harry but there was nothing that he could do to fix it...no matter how much he had tried in the past.
"Hey Harry!" came Marv's voice as he appeared by the doorway holding two cups of coffee in his hand. "Oh good you're awake," he said and handed the bandit the cup of coffee. "Are we ready to go to the skating rink. You promised to take me there and then to the Central Park Zoo."
Harry frowned when he looked at the coffee cup. "Where'd you get this?" he asked him.
"In the coffee shop down the street," Marv said to him. He then held the taped up hand in the air and slightly moved his fingers, "this really helps when you wanna find a wallet."
At least his fellow bandit was putting their new name into good use, not the Harry would ever want to associate himself with a brand name such as the 'Sticky Bandits.' He looked down at the coffee cup and was glad of the warmth that it radiated to his hands. "Let's get out of here before someone sees us," he said to Marv, who happily followed after him knowing real well that they were going to go to the ice rink for the morning.
The early morning had turned out to be an enjoyable day for the McCallister siblings. Kevin was ready and bundled up to leave the hotel whilst his sister was busy fixing her hair. At least she wasn't like their cousin Heather, who would get ready but then spend hours on perfecting her makeup. He wondered what she was doing now that she finished her semester in Northwestern University. Last Kevin heard from her was that she was with her parents in Paris but whether she was planning on returning or not, she was unsure about that. Kevin remembered that it was fun having her in the house, even if she considered him to be a nuisance. When she had first left, it felt as if the house was missing something but Kevin had gotten adjusted to that after a while.
"Becky, hurry up!" he called over to the bathroom, "we're wasting time."
"I'm coming, I'm coming," Becky called out as she finished her last braid tied it with a hair tie. She put on her coat and grabbed her bag before looking over at Kevin. "You look like you're ready to go."
"I've been waiting for hours," Kevin exaggerated, "I want to go to a toy store and who knows when they're closing. Now come on," he said as he grabbed his sister's hand and pulled her out the door.
Someone is in a hurry Becky thought as she followed Kevin into the elevator and the two of them made their way to the hotel lobby. As usual the place was filled with hotel guests that checked in and out and the hotel staff assisting them, which made Becky wonder if any of the staff ever got a break from their job.
"Mr. and Ms. McCallister!" a voice called over to them and Becky looked over to see the hotel concierge hurrying over to them.
Kevin let out a sigh and shook his head. He was hoping to avoid any of the staff members that helped them out in the previous night but he guessed that they were curious to find out more about their 'father.' As the concierge approached them, Becky squinted and got a better look at the name tag that he wore. Hector, got it she thought as she brightened up when the man approached them. "Good morning, sir," she greeted him as she put on her best smile as if it was a regular morning and that he hadn't sneaked into their hotel room last night.
"And how are we this morning?" Hector asked the siblings.
"Fine," Kevin beat Becky to it, "is our limousine here?"
Way to get to the point Kevin Becky rolled her eyes at her brother's straightforwardness before giving Hector an apologetic smile due to her brother's manners. "Don't mind him, sir," Becky spoke up, "he's just excited about the limousine ride."
"But of course," Hector answered her with a nod of his head, "it's out front. A limousine and a pizza. Compliments of the Plaza Hotel."
At first, Becky didn't remember ordering a pizza and she glanced over at Kevin who held that innocent angelic look upon his face. If there was anyone in the world that had pizza for breakfast, it would be her little brother, but then again Hector said that it was compliments from the hotel and she wondered whether this was his way of apologizing for peeking into the shower when their 'dad' was in there. "Why thank you," Becky said, "that's kind of the hotel to do that."
"Our pleasure," Hector said, "I do hope that your father understands that last night I was simply checking to see that everything was in order."
The way he said it and the smile that he beheld, it made Becky feel a little uneasy. Was it normal that hotel staff would do something like that? She thought that no staff was permitted to enter unless it was an emergency or if the maid was going to come in a fix the room.
"Oh he was pretty mad," Kevin answered, "he said he didn't come here to have his naked rear end spied on."
Becky took a deep breath and tilted her head to the side in agreement. "I assured him that it was an accident. He was ready to send an angry letter to your boss about what happened."
Kevin looked at the fearful look that passed over Hector's face when she said that. "Of course it was a mere accident," Hector said to them, "will he be down soon?"
"He already left," Kevin jumped in.
"I was hoping to extend my personal apology after the events of last night," Hector said.
"If someone saw you in the shower, would you want to see him again?" Kevin asked before adding, "I don't think you'll see him again for the rest of our trip." With those words, Kevin said his goodbyes to the concierge as he pulled Becky with him to the outside doors of the lobby.
Those two children seemed to have put on a good act, but Hector wasn't easily fooled. He still had his suspicious feelings and he was not going to let last night's 'accident' stop him from finding out more about this McCallister family. He made his way behind the desk where they kept information about their hotel guests and got to work on processing the credit card that was used to check in.
He was too busy putting in the numbers on the pad, when Cedric came over to him after helping out a hotel guest. "Sir," he said to Hector.
"Get on with it Cedric, I am little preoccupied," Hector said to him, not looking up from the credit card reader.
"Of course sir," Cedric said to him, "I may need to step away within the hour. I do need to make an important phone call. Family business."
Just then, Hector looked up at the bellhop. "Just as long as it doesn't interfere with your work," he said to him as Cedric said his 'thank you's' and headed back to work. Just then, the credit card reader beeped with the words 'Stolen' flashing upon the screen. It was just as he suspected. No young child would use a credit card to check into a hotel nor have the knowledge on how to use it. Though these two had the staff fooled but Hector was glad that he caught them in the act before it was too late.
"Bingo," he smirked.
