I shot up out of bed, looking around frantically. None of the areas where I was looked familiar, it looked like your average council flat. I sat there, unmoving, before my memories came flooding back.
It was January 1st 2006, and I had just rented a new flat on the Estate that Rose and Jackie lived on. I hadn't met Jackie yet, but I was going to make friends with her so that I had the biggest chance of meeting the Doctor.
Before I managed to put my feet out of bed, another textbox appeared.
Welcome to the Doctor Who universe.
Your name is Tony Lyre, a 25 year old unemployed male who has just moved in to the Powell Estate.
You have 2 months and 5 days before the Doctor and Rose turn up again.
Your memories of your life on Gallifrey and Time Lord technology has been sealed in a Chameleon Arch, along with a majority of your skills.
Damn, I was hoping to make a … Well now I can't remember. I looked around, vaguely remembering that a Chameleon Arch forced the essence of a Time Lord into a watch. I found a silver pocket watch with circular patterns sitting on my bedside table.
I tried to use the go to gamer power, Observe on my watch.
Skill Created!
Observe (Level 1): This skill allows you to see the name, race, age and stats of the person you are observing. Higher levels can show more information such as reputation and their current thoughts about you.
Pocket Watch
This watch holds the skills and memories of $ £
Time until able to be opened: two months and five days.
I wish I could open it now and remember what I lost but I obviously had to wait for… someone.
Well at least I had some time to explore the estate and make friends with Jackie before my memories could open.
Quest Made!
Make friends with Jackie Tyler before the watch can be opened
Reward: Increased Reputation with Jackie, Increased Reputation with %!#, Increased Reputation with the $.
Bonus Objectives Available!
That should be fairly easy, although I wonder what the bonus objectives were.
I rolled out of bed, thinking through what I could do. It seems like I didn't have a job so I needed to find one quickly to get food and rent. Actually, what were my skills?
"Status?" I asked the air, hoping it would summon some menu for me to read.

Dexterity is how fast you are, how fast you can run and how fast your reflexes are.
Intelligence is how quickly you can learn new things, along with affecting thought speed.
Wisdom is how good you can utilise your knowledge, the more wisdom the better the idea.
Charisma is how smooth you are, from talking to lying to excuses.
Luck is the potential for something to go wrong, the higher the Luck the lower the chance of something going wrong or breaking.
Well damn, that's pretty bad, how would that compare to the average person though? Guess I'll have to go out and check.
After doing my morning routine, I head outside and immediately almost crash into the woman I'm looking for.
"Oh sorry miss, I didn't see you there, I was in a rush this morning." I say to Jackie, the woman carrying what looks like a stack of paper.
"Oh it's alright sweetheart, are you the neighbour that's just moved in? I'm Jackie Tyler. What's your name?" She asked, looking me up and down. I looked pretty good if I do say so myself, with black hair and blue eyes, standing at about 6 feet tall. I was Caucasian, almost a milk bottle because of the fact that there was barely any sun in the UK to tan myself with.
"Yea I just moved all my stuff in last night, my name is Tony Lyre, do you need any help with whatever you're doing? Don't wanna be known as a bad neighbour you know." I gesture to the papers in her arm, using Observe on Jackie as I did.

'How does Jackie have more Charisma than me!' I thought. I thought about it and remembered that she was pretty well known around the estate, she must have a fair few friends and was obviously skilled enough if she managed to have Mickey practically a pariah for being suspected of killing his girlfriend.
"Ooh yea if you could help me that would be great love, I've got to put these flyers up for my daughter, she's been missing for nearly a year now, I think her boyfriend murdered her but the police won't do anything without proof!" She shouted, already badmouthing Mickey.
"Well I don't know anything about your daughter or her boyfriend but I'll be happy to put flyers up." I said, feeling slightly guilty for some reason. Most likely it had something to do with my missing memories.
5 REP with Jackie Tyler!
Huh, seems agreeing to help boosted my reputation with her. Makes sense, the nicer you are to people the more fondly they will think of you. What is my reputation with her?
Must upgrade Observe to know REP with people.
Guess I gotta use Observe a lot before I can see them. I decided to use Observe on the flyer.

I spent the next couple hours putting flyers up, Observing random people as they walked around, finally managing to level up Observe as I put up the final poster.
Observe (Level 2) This skill allows you to see the name, race, age, stats and health status of the person you are observing. Higher levels can show more information such as reputation and their current thoughts about you.
Well that will be useful when I come across sick people on my travels. Putting up all the flyers also got me another five point boost in reputation with Jackie.
"Hey Jackie, you know if there's a gym anywhere around here? I want to work out a bit but didn't see any on my way here." I asked. I was hoping that I could upgrade my Strength and my Dexterity. I'd ask for a library tomorrow to see if I could upgrade my Wisdom.
1 to Wisdom and Intelligence for thinking ahead!
"Oh yea! There's a Total Fitness just down the road, they do a six month free subscription for when you start there." Jackie was happy to help me, I really hope she doesn't want to sleep with me.
I realise now that aside from Gamers Mind and Observe that I have literally no skills or perks to speak of. There's also no magic in this universe, running mainly off science and technology. Well if I can't be a wizard, I'll be the best damn engineer in the universe. It was what I was back in my original life so I should have some skill in it right?
Skill Crossover
Engineering: Level 25: You are able to make, fix, and upgrade technology and machines. Masters of this skill can create spaceships.
Level 25 sounds pretty good, if we are going by a maximum of 100. I decided to ask Jackie if she needs any help fixing things to boost it up.
————————————————————
I stumble into my flat, exhausted. I had just spent 5 hours in Jackie's flat, fixing every single thing. Apparently she wasn't very good at fixing things, and the people she dated weren't much better. On the bright side this boosted my engineering skill and my Charisma.
Engineering: Level 27: You are able to make, fix, and upgrade technology and machines. Masters of this skill can create spaceships.
Charisma 2 for being a friendly neighbour!
Well, one day down, two months and four days to go.
TIME SKIP.
It's been about two months since I first arrived. My watch only had hours before I could open it and get my memories back. I had managed to get into the gym, and I was pretty in shape, managing to bench press 200 pounds, which is pretty good considering the average is 135 pounds. I could also run 5 kilometres in 10 minutes. There were definitely people better than me, but for the first two months of exercise I'm pretty proud of myself.
10 to Strength, Vitality and Dexterity for working out!
I also found the library and decided to focus mainly on history and machines, figuring that the machine books could help with my engineering skill, while the history was just a hobby.
10 to Intelligence and Wisdom for exercising your mind!
Engineering level 35: You are considered an expert among humans. You can fix almost everything in the 21st century unless highly specialised.
I had gotten a few points in Charisma for helping people around the Estate, getting paid for it and gaining a pretty good reputation as a good neighbour and a great handyman. Which helped when I couldn't find a good job considering I couldn't find any documents for myself.
3 to Charisma for being a good samaritan.
I had also levelled up Observe quite a lot, finally managing to unlock the reputation system.
Observe Level 10: This skill allows you to see the name, race, age, stats, health status and reputation with the person you are observing. Higher levels allow you to see allegiances and through disguises, such as Perception Filters.
Reputation: this menu allows you to see who is friendly and who should be kept an eye on. WARNING: THIS WILL BE UNRELIABLE ON THOSE INFLICTED WITH MADNESS.
-100: Mortal Enemy: These people will never work with you and will try and kill you on sight.
-50: Hated: These people hate you and will not work with you unless in a life threatening situation. Large chance of them attempting to fight and kill you.
-25: Disliked: These people will only work with you if it helps them. Small chance of them attempting to fight you.
0:Strangers: these people do not know you at all. Will do as you ask if public standing is high enough.
25: Friendly: These people will work with you, Small chance for gifts.
50:Admired: These people will happily work with you and follow your lead. Chance for gifts. Small chance for romance or familial relationships.
100:Worshipped: These people will die before letting you get hurt. Large chance for gifts. Will be considered first choice for romance or considered family. High chance for PERK.
Jackie was at 50 from me constantly fixing her stuff, and helping her put up flyers. I had managed to become friends but the quest hadn't cleared, making me think that it would only clear when the watch would open, giving me a chance to clear the bonus objectives.
I had also not levelled up in the whole two months I was here, making me think that EXP only came from defeating enemies, or quests.
I had just finished tuning Jackie's telly when her front door flew open, a young woman walking through.
"Hey sorry about staying out all night, Shareen wasn't feeling very - who are you then?" Rose Tyler said, looking over at me while me and Jackie both stared at her, Jackie in shock and me in confusion. I was sure she was missing and looking at Jackie she also could barely believe that Rose just wandered in with no issue.
Before I could say anything Jackie flew at Rose, wrapping her in a hug as a man ran through the door. "It's uh it's not 12 hours, it's 12 months, sorry." He muttered, drawing shocked looks from Rose.
I could see Jackie getting angry and I did not want to deal with that so I stood up, getting ready to head to my flat for a bit, when the man looked at me in confusion.
"You alright mate, look like you've seen a ghost?" I asked him, only to not get an answer as he continued to stare at me. I was starting to get confused, deciding to try Observe on him.
WARNING! PERSON YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO OBSERVE HAS MENTAL SHIELDS. CHANCE OF DETECTION: 95% (94.9% WITH LUCK STAT ACTIVE)
DO YOU STILL WISH TO OBSERVE?
I blanched, mentally pressing the NO button. This man was different from anyone else I had ever met. I needed to keep an eye on him.
"Well Jackie, I've got that telly fixed for you, don't let those brats pull the wires out all willy nilly again alright? I'll be up on the roof if ya need a hand." I told her, getting a nod and a wave of the hand, letting me make a quick escape to my flat.
As I left, I could hear Rose asking who I was, before Mount Jackie blew up about her disappearance. I chuckled to myself, getting ready to open the watch, taking it up to the roof just in case there was something explosive about it, I didn't wanna mess up my flat.
————————————————————
I was sitting on the roof, staring at my watch, constantly using Observe to count the minutes, only two minutes left. I was slightly worried leading up to the end of the time limit, what if I lost my memories or something went wrong?
I was just about to use Observe again, when the door to the roof opened and the man from before stepped out into the cold spring air.
I looked over at him and smiled, waving a hand as I stood up. "Alright mate? Jackie finished shouting then? I've had a lot of experience escaping her when she gets mad." I laughed, only to stop when he stared at me again. It was getting annoying now.
"Alright mate seriously why are you still staring at me? Have I got oil on my face or something?" I wasn't sure if he knew me or something but it was quite worrying, the way he stared me dead in the eyes. It was as if he was trying to dissect me with his eyes.
The man shook his head and pulled out some metal rod. He pointed it at me, making me hold my hands up in surrender, wildly confused as to why I was being threatened by a tube of metal.
"Alright mate no need to stab me or whatever that does, I've got money in my wallet I'll be happy to give you." I babbled, clenching my watch in my hand, obviously drawing the attention of the man.
"That watch, does it work?" He asked me rather roughly, confusing me and making me wary. How would he know it can't open?
"What's it to you?" I shouted, getting angry at the man still pointing his stick at me. I wasn't about to tell some madman that the watch had a time limit.
He put his stick back in his pocket and walked over to me. "Give me the watch, I want to see if it is what I think it is." He asked quickly, as if he thought that if he didn't get it soon it would fly away.
I was obviously confused but something told me to trust this strange man in the leather jacket. I slowly and gently put the watch in his hand, causing it to glow gold for a second.
I gasped, obviously not believing what I was seeing, while the man laughed. It was obvious he was over the moon at what my watch was. His eyes seemed to light up with hope and joy.
"Alright mate what did you do to my watch? That's been mine for as long as I can remember and it's never glowed like that before." I was slowly but surely freaking out, there was only 1 minute until I could open my watch.
The man didn't say anything, just seemed to scan it with his stick. I snatched my watch back and held it tightly, not willing to let it go so close to the time limit.
"Look uh what's your name?" The man asked.
"Tony, Tony Lyre, look mate I don't even know your name and you've been acting weird."
"Well Tony Lyre, I'm the Doctor and I can explain everything once you open that old watch." The man couldn't look more hopeful if he tried.
"Well, let's see what happens when I open it then." I smile at him, hoping to calm him down. I used Observe one last time.

I breathed out slowly, and flicked it open.

I gasped and collapsed into the arms of the Doctor, who held me as I held my head, whispering encouragement as I cried at the ache of the memories returning.
I remembered entering the academy, standing in front of the majesty of the Schism, becoming inspired by the power of Time, getting my pilot's licence for my own TARDIS, taking the title of the Engineer, vowing to forever be ready to fix the problem and offer a hand to anyone that needs it. I remembered the Time War, being one of the chief engineers that repaired TARDISes off the front line. I remembered being terrified once I heard the rumours of the Final Sanction being discussed and taking a TARDIS, using the Chameleon Arch to escape and turn human, my last sight being Gallifrey disappear in flames, the Daleks being destroyed in the sudden crossfire.

I groaned in pain, finally managing to stand back up on my own, the Doctor keeping his hand out just in case. Apart from the rapidly receding headache, I felt great, as if I was running on half power this whole time and now I was fully recharged.
"Woah, that was weird. I feel as if I could smash my gym records easily." I commented to myself, looking around at my body, patting it down and noticing the difference my species change had. I now had a more bulked up form, not like a bodybuilder but more a seasoned marathon runner.
The Doctor chuckled. "All better now you're out of that watch? What's your name mate?" He asked, looking me over as well.
"I'm still Tony Lyre, but I'm also The Engineer, at your service." I nod my head at him, smiling widely as the last of my memories slotted into place. I could now remember the Doctor Who show in all its glory. I was going to do my best to prevent the deaths shown and help the Doctor to the best of my new abilities.
