Author's Note: Takes place after episode 208, during and after the "Invasion!" crossover.

Lena glares at her phone, as if that will make Kara answer her texts. Her supposed friend hasn't spoken to her since that disastrous interview a few days ago, and Lena feels the lack of support keenly.

"Guess she wised up and decided being friends with a Luthor was a bad idea," Lena mumbles, rising from the couch. She stumbles slightly before making her way towards the kitchen to refill her glass, absently noting how much less whiskey the bottle contains. It wasn't full when she started drinking a few hours ago, but the level has dropped considerably since then. "Screw it." Lena leaves the empty glass and carries the bottle out onto the balcony, shivering slightly in the cool air. "Figures," she continues, drinking directly from the bottle. "I can't make or keep friends to save my life, and of course I manage to run off even Kara Danvers, sunshine in human form. Wait, no, not human, but still, walking sunshine." She snorts. "And of course I manage to wreck any semblance of a working relationship I had with Supergirl in the bargain." She takes another pull of alcohol. "Never mind the fact that I actually sabotaged Lillian's plan. You'd think that would be worth a 'thank you' but no, I'm still a Luthor. The fact that I even pretended to go along with the latest homicidal scheme lumps me in with the rest of them."

Another gulp from the bottle. "Maybe they're in this together. Some twisted plot to make me think I have friends while checking to see if I'm as bad as Lex." The idea hurts, almost as much as when Lena shakes her head. "No, Kara wouldn't… Kara couldn't… but… maybe…" Lena's head feels like a misfiring engine. "Kara can't even lie convincingly about being a human, how the hell could she be Supergirl's spy?" Lena swallows another mouthful of whiskey. "Then again, I guess I don't really know Kara that well. Maybe she's a fantastic liar when it counts." She laughs at a sudden thought. "Hell, maybe Kara is Supergirl! They certainly look similar, and I can't get in touch with either one of them right now…"

Lena puts the bottle to her lips again, hoping for more alcohol, but nothing comes out. Blinking, she pulls the bottle away and sees that it is, in fact, empty. Her head starts to really pound, and she suddenly notices how much the temperature has dropped. Shivering, Lena makes her way back inside. She deposits the bottle in the kitchen sink before making her way to the bedroom. The young CEO barely manages to strip out of her clothes before collapsing on the bed. Visions of blond hair and blue eyes pursue her into unconsciousness.

Lena groans when the alarm jolts her awake, both at having to get up and at her pounding headache. She manages to roll out of bed and silence her phone before stumbling to the bathroom and dry-swallowing painkillers. Her morning routine wakes her further, although instead of the usual mental rundown of her upcoming day her mind keeps playing back her drunken thoughts from the previous evening. Clearly, she thought of something important, but what? Something to do with Kara and Supergirl…

Lena shakes her head as she exits the bathroom, regretting the gesture as the ache in her temples flares again. "Leave it. If it's that important, you'll figure it out again." She picks out her outfit for the day and gets dressed before retrieving her phone from the bedside table. As soon as she turns it on, she sees the notification: a text from Kara.

Hands shaking slightly, Lena opens the message.

I'm SO sorry for disappearing on you like that. Work got stupid busy and I got completely caught up. Want to meet up at Noonan's tomorrow morning? (I'd say today but I have no idea what your schedule is like.)

The knot in Lena's chest loosens. Kara didn't forget her. Kara didn't run away. They can still be friends, even after awkward interviews.

Sighing in relief, Lena types out a reply. Tomorrow sounds perfect. I'll see you then.

Author's Note 2: Originally, I planned for this collection to cover up to the start of "I Heard Your Voice in a Dream". However, I've hit a wall with continuing beyond this piece, so I'm finishing here. Thanks for reading!
