A/N: This chapter is from Kaminari's point of view. It takes place right after the end of the internship arc, once everyone comes back to school. It's kind of hard not to notice the dark-haired girl in the corner suddenly has a friend. What's weird is, nobody really knows why. Sorry it's not very long, I don't see them staying on this subject long. lol.

-Kaminari's POV-

.

"I just don't get what she sees in him!"

Kaminari Denki frowns as he glances across the table towards Mineta. The dark, bubble-haired boy stabs his food and angrily glares at the table in the back of the cafeteria—the one seating a certain, mysterious girl. Quiet, powerful, and broody. She'd returned from internships even more subdued than usual, and strangely enough, clinging to some general studies kid. Kaminari recognized him, half the class had. He'd made it pretty far in the Sports Festival after all, but it didn't explain anything. It didn't explain this. Mineta had been furious, mouth open in horror, when the stranger crossed the cafeteria without hesitation. When he'd just walked up like they were the best of friends and sat down. And she'd smiled at him. Not that weird, creepy grin she sometimes gave, but an I'm-so-glad-to-see-you smile that made her face light up and a weird jealousy claw at his chest. And then, not even a few minutes later, she'd hugged him.

Hoki didn't notice, but he did.

Nearly all of the cafeteria did. He'd seen Kirishima's eyes widen, had watched Mineta choke on his food, had heard several of the girls gasp, and had even noticed Midoriya stopping good ole Class Prez from stomping over there to fuss about PDA.

"He's not handsome. I mean he's pale and his hair's a ridiculous mess and he looks like he hasn't slept in weeks. And- And he's not even in the Hero's course! What's so great about him, huh?" growls the purple boy.

"I dunno," he answers, and really, he's got no clue. "Maybe they bonded after the Sports Festival? You remember they were on the same team?"

Mineta scoffs. Kaminari's not surprised. Hoki had been horrible during the festival, even moodier than usual until she'd suddenly reverted back to normal. It'd been fucking weird.

He hadn't forgotten the look on her face either, that calloused expression when she wrapped him in her shadows and flung him from the ring. He hadn't even been able to get off his lightning. It'd been an expression of complete indifference, dark eyes glittering with malice and rage. Like he wasn't even a person.

Like they'd never even met.

He'd never forget that look.

It'd been the same one from the USJ.

The same one she'd given the villain before she'd literally exploded. He'd had nightmares of that for weeks. Dreams where he watched her skin crack and peel back as shadows split her flesh, blood draining down her arms. The way her mouth had almost come unhinged, the way darkness had come pouring out. If it hadn't been for that Nomu, she'd have killed that villain.

She'd have crushed it in her hands without remorse.

But instead, he'd watched as the creature designed to take on All Might slammed her head into the cement the same way it had Aizawa-sensei. He'd watched the way her shadows had come crashing back on her, tearing at her.

The sound of her screams.

God, he never wanted to hear that sound again. Choking, unfiltered sobs as darkness covered her flesh.

"Nightmare isn't a title, it's a description."

She wasn't wrong.

He'd been the one to carry her out of the USJ, he'd been the one to shake and struggle under her weight as her breath slowed and her body paled under all of Sero's red-stained tape.

Please don't die. Please don't die. Please don't die.

He hadn't known people could bleed so much. Fingers slipping in their grip as the liquid coated his hands and dried under his nails.

When she hadn't shown up several days later and Aizawa-sensei had, the entire class had been quiet. He hadn't been the only one to glance worriedly at her desk. He'd caught snippets of Midoriya's mumbling, Kirishima's scowl, Sero's pained expression, and Mineta's worried frown. The relief when she'd shown up the next day, still wrapped in bandages but alive, had been almost physical.

"She just lets him put his hands all over her. But when I try to do that, I get chewed out by Kirishima! How is that fair?"

Kaminari gives him an amused look.

"He's not exactly touching the goods," he says smirking. The smirk dies when they both notice the girl wiping her face. Crying. Mineta makes a face, turning away and going back to his food.

"You think something happened?" the boy asks taking a bite.

"I dunno," Kaminari answers. That was kind of the problem, wasn't it? Nobody knew. Hoki was so tight-lipped about anything and everything that he could count on one hand the number of things they knew about her. Hell, he could probably count the same number of times he'd actually heard her speak. She doesn't talk much. She's powerful as fuck. She hates her quirk. And she has more scars than any other girl he'd ever met.

So how did some random nobody do what we've all been trying for months without success?

"Stupid droopy eyes," Mineta huffs.

"Yeah," he agrees.
