How long should Dante be with Imara? A year yes, but in terms of chapters?

Imara's smirk made Dante nervous as he wandered into the depths of her layer. "Um,.. so... what..." He fell to his knees, panic overtaking him. The world went dizzy for a moment... and then it settled. "Good, breathe Dante, breathe..." Standing, he turned to Imara. "What... um... what is going on? I get that I am apparently a wizard, from an ancient line and that something called the Source wants me dead... can you explain why? And what being a wizard means... please?"

Imara laughed, contorting her already hideous features into something even uglier. "Oh my sweet boy, there is so much to share. Let's start with the easier questions, shall we? Wizards are magic using beings, spell casters born to mortal lines. As opposed to witches and warlocks, sibling species, who draw their powers from their emotions your kind draw their powers from learning and scholarly pursuits. You need to master your powers through effort and development, other than your spirilization, a form of teleporting which is ruled by self-preservation. That is universal to all teleporting powers. Other than that, your powers grow through learning and focus and development. While it means you start out weaker than most magic users, it also means that your powers can grow to unchecked levels which also grants your kind the potential for immortality once you reach a certain limit.

These things made the Source of All Evil, a massively powerful demon who rules the Underworld... or well, most of it anyway, hunt your people down to near extinction. A few randomly are born to the old lines that hold the power, but he usually just has them killed. You would have died had Kyra, that old Seer, not saved you. How did you find her, she has a few protections on her lair?"

"I could feel her and I somehow teleported to her."

"Ah... most Wizards have some seer power themselves, it seems you have at the least a natural clairvoyance about you. That will come in handy... now, let us talk ground rules. You will learn fast and hard as I teach you, you will not fail me. Ask questions, you cannot be expected to just master a subject without them. Do not leave the cave without me, you would be set upon in moments and I would suffer as a result. In a year, you will... you will make me something, from whatever subject your focus on be it enchantments or potions or whatever. Something interesting, that is how you will pay me back. Sound fair?"

"More that... thank you."

"Polite, I like it... now.. while you are here, you will act as a servant, gathering ingredients for potions, making reports and cleaning this cave. Earning your keep, so to speak."

Dante had no issue with that, he had been a foster kid for years, which was rather normal for him. He could do this... he had no real choice, if he wanted to survive.

"Magic is simple to cast, for the most part, it is power, words and the right ingredients... Take a simple banishing spell, you simply rhyme a little or say some latin or something., provided you have enough power, you can kill or banish those you intend to harm. For more complex, everlasting magic, you need something more. Take this cage of mine." Imara gestured to the cage of gold near them. "This took months, my blood and gentle enchantments are needed to be layered over and over again, each gem, each piece enchanted to create a binding field. The entire thing is forged with powerful magics, bound through will and magics beyond mere rhymes and a can do spirit. It requires skill that few ever accomplish. Most Warlocks, witches or even sorcerers rely on quick modern magic, simple spells needed to invoke instant but less potent results. Less permanent results. That type of magic is easily reversed, with a counterspell or simply by reciting the words backward. This magic cannot be so easily undone..."

Nodding Dante made mental notes of all he heard. "That makes senses... big spells require preparation and layering. Smaller spells take can do spirit, power and smaller if any preparation."

"More or less. Witches like the Charmed one, the most powerful witches in history, can get away with being lazy in their craft and only focus on instant results as they possess tremendous power but lesser witches cannot and so they master the craft to get the most out of every ingredient, enchantment and more. If the Charmed ones ever learned of this form of magic, they'd be unbeatable...but they are obsessed with being human and normal, or so I hear."

Dante laughed. "They are all powerful witches and they want to be normal, why? I'd use my magic to give myself the life of luxury."

Imara turned, impressed. "Witches are bound by the Wiccan rede, if they break ti they are punished. Using magic for personal gain is part of that."

"Do I have to worry about that. The whole Good and Evil thing you explained before sounds lame, I want to help if choose and not be forced into it or hurt it if feel it it."

"Wizard lack a forced moral obligation. You can be whatever you want, good, evil or neither. It's up to you."

"Epic... so... how do we start learning? I mean you've had me mastering my Spiraling teleportation for a week and I got that down back." To demonstrate, he spiraled behind her and back again. "That wasn't very hard."

"No, but you seem to have a strong self of self preservation, so that power is natural to you. For now, you will study the craft from my books. What each herb, stone, mineral does. You will master Latin and memorize spells and history. All you can to empower yourself. Remember when you leave my care, you will craft for me something amazing.'

"I have not forgotten,... it will be epic."

"It better be."
