Chapter 13
"Hey, I thought you might need this" I looked up from my transfiguration book to see Hannah stood before me armed with a bar of chocolate.
"Thanks" I gave her a small smile and placed it on the bench next to my notebook. It made me chuckle as I remembered that Remus always said that chocolate made everything better. Hannah flopped down onto the seat across from me.
"How are you feeling?" She asked.
"Honestly…kind of relieved but also hurt at the same time" I sighed closing my book and running a hand over my face. I was hurt that someone so close had lied to me, but in some respects relieved to be able to be my own person again. I was able to speak to my friends again and hang around the twins with out worrying about Cedric glaring at me every five minutes.
"Understandable, I'm here if you ever need to rant" She smiled.
"Thanks Hannah, so what happened with the troll?" I was genuinely curious having missed out on the event. There were rumours that the troll had been let in by someone in the castle.
"Well, rumour has it that Harry and Ron saved Hermione by knocking it out" I could always rely on Hannah for the latest gossip. What really shocked me was Harry and Ron had gone after the troll not knowing what to do.
"What?! That's crazy" I raised my eyebrows at the news. I didn't know Hermione but in one of my conversations with Harry, he had told me briefly about her. She seemed like a very smart witch and not one that would go chasing after magical creatures. Hannah continued to tell me about what she heard.
"Hey Michelle? Heads up I think your owl has something for you" Susan nodded at Snowy swooping in carrying a letter. She let go and it landed on the book before me. I shook my head as she flew around for a moment before perching on one of the teacher's chairs.
"Someone's popular" Hannah chuckled as I reached to pick the envelope up. I instantly recognised the handwriting on the front and flipped it over to read the message inside.
Michelle,
Young Master Weasley has written to me and explained everything. That he didn't tell McGonagall about not helping you and that you had a particularly rough Halloween. As for Harry bring sorted into Gryffindor, I can't say I'm surprised.
Dumbledore has informed me that you will now be using your given last name and I doubt things will be easier due to this, but don't fret little one, you have friends and family who will care for you. I will see you soon little wolf,
Uncle Lupin
I read the letter a few more times and couldn't help but feel grateful that Fred had written to Remus explain everything. It made me feel more at ease knowing that he knew the truth. I folded the letter up and placed it in the front of my book, turning to carry on chatting to Hannah about the upcoming Quidditch game. It was Hufflepuff against Gryffindor, and our Captain Malcolm Swannage was quietly confident that we could give them a run for their money.
As lunch ended, I found myself walking with Harry to the next lesson; Herbology for me and Transfiguration for him.
"Then I stuck my wand up its nose and Ron cast Wingardium Leviosa and knocked him out" Harry recalled what had really happened with his troll encounter. I raised my eyebrow at him and couldn't help but shake my head.
"That was very brave of you and kind of gross" I chuckled as we carried on walking.
"Thanks" He laughed "So, tell me about mum and dad" it threw me for a moment, as I hadn't expected him to just ask outright about them. I thought carefully about what I wanted to say. Remus didn't really tell me much about them, only that they would be proud of us had they still been alive.
"I was three when they died so I don't know much, but I do know that they loved us and would be proud of us" I gave him a small smile. I wish I remembered more but having only be young when they died, it was difficult.
"I wish I could have met them" Harry frowned as he pushed his glasses up his nose.
"Well, anyone who knew them would say we are the spitting images, you look so much like dad with mum's eyes" I clutched my books closer to me as we walked.
"What are the scars around your eye?" Harry asked curiously. I knew the question was coming and I had gone through so many ways to tell him, but I didn't want to overload him with too much information. It was one thing to learn that you have a sister, it was another to learn that she's a werewolf.
"It's a long story to be told another time" I sighed running a hand through my hair. I would tell him eventually but now was not that time.
"But you will tell me?" Harry asked timidly making my heart break for him. He had suffered a lot in the last 10 years so curiosity sometimes got the better of him.
"I will" I smiled and bumped his shoulder, making him laugh "For now we have lessons and then Quidditch" I grinned. He laughed as we carried on walking, his eyes lighting up at the mention of Quidditch.
"Yes, I'm excited" He launched into an explanation of why he liked the game and how he felt when flying. I chuckled but listened intently. Before long we had to part to got to our respective lessons.
"I'll see you at the game Harry, may the best seeker winner" I laughed as I headed towards the Herbology greenhouse.
"See you later Shell" I stopped in my tracks, turning to see his figure retreating towards the dungeons I couldn't help the smile or tears that decided to make their appearance. Normally hearing my nickname wouldn't have this effect on me but hearing it from Harry created a familiar feeling, one that I only got around Remus, or the Weasley, a familial feeling.
The lessons flew by and before long the game was upon us. I headed down to the Hufflepuff locker room and changed into my Quidditch robes. As I pulled my auburn into a high ponytail and donned my goggles the rest of the team entered the room.
"Nervous Potter?" I frowned turning to look at the captain "Dumbledore told us and don't worry it doesn't make a difference what your name is" They smiled at me and squeezed my shoulder reassuringly. The rest of the team gathered around us and began asking questions about Harry until Malcolm split them up again and began with the strategy. After around half an hour it was time for the game to begin and we gathered our brooms making our way onto the pitch. Cheers, whistling and shouts of encouragement could be heard from the students as both teams mounted their brooms and flew around the pitch, some practicing their shots others performing for the crowd. I flew up in line with the towers to get my bearings and calm myself before the game started. We had played Gryffindor before and subsequently lost but this time I was playing against my brother and that was a scary thought.
"What's on your mind Mickey?" I looked up to see Fred floating in front of me beater bat in hand, dressed in the red and gold robes of the Gryffindor team.
"Just trying to focus" I gave him a small smile adjusting my gloves. In fairness I was freaking out, the team had accepted me but that's not to say the rest of the school would.
"I know there's more on your mind Mick" Fred flew around me before hovering next to me nudging my shoulder with his.
"I'll tell you later" I sighed and flew down to the rest of the team as Madam Hooch blew her whistle. She began with her usual spiel about having a nice clean game before releasing the bludgers and Snitch. The little golden ball flew around Harry's head, then my own before disappearing into the air, that was our one to focus on and catching it meant the game was at an end. The whistle sounded and the game began with a flurry of red and yellow streaks.
Unfortunately, we didn't win as Harry caught the snitch after 5 minutes, which believe me was extremely frustrating, but I was happy for him, nonetheless. Fred and George engulfed me in a hug and the rest of the team shook hands and offered they're congratulations.
As we made our way back up the castle Hannah caught up to us.
"That was a great game" She exclaimed her blonde hair flapping around her and the Hufflepuff colours graced her red cheeks.
"Thanks Hannah, it seems as though Harry is the better seeker" I chuckled.
"You gave him a good run for his money" She smiled as she pulled her hair into a ponytail to prevent the wind from blowing it in her face.
"I did, didn't I" we laughed as we began the ascent towards the wooden bridge that connected the main school to the rest of the grounds.
"Hey Potter!" I turned to see both Weasley twins jogging towards, their robes flapping behind them like capes.
"I guess you heard" I rolled my eyes smiling at the use of my proper name. It felt weird being able to use my given name instead of my other name.
"It may have passed our ears, plus Evans never suited you anyway" George slung an arm over my shoulder as the four of us made our way along the bridge. Fred walked on the other side of Hannah his hands in his robe pockets.
"So, what's up?" I asked.
"We're heading to meet Harry, Ron and Hermione and wondered if you'd like to join us" Fred chuckled as I shrugged George's arm off and slapped him on the arm as he tried to mess with my hair. I smoothed ruffled hair back into place and made like I was thinking about his offer.
"I'd have to think about it…what do you think Hannah?" I raised an eyebrow at her as she grinned.
"Of course!" She giggled as George once again tried to pull my hair out of its ponytail. I shook my head laughing as we made our way through the massive wooden doors that graced the entrance way. We agreed to meet back up in the great hall after we had changed out of our quidditch robes and proceeded to go our separate ways. Hannah and I chatted about the match as we made our way towards the common room, but I couldn't help but noticed the stares as we walked past the other students. I guess the news of my name had reached every corner of the school and some of those stares told me that people thought I was only using that name to gain fame. It wasn't the case out all, but I wasn't about to explain that to the thousand plus students that walked the halls.
As we made our way into the common the conversation died and the handful of students that were sat around turned to look at us. I bit my lip, holding my head high as I made my way towards the girl's dormitories.
"You really know how to draw the attention don't you Potter!" Eve Matthews spat as she blocked my way into the dorm. Her blue eyes were piercing as she tried to stare me down. Hannah tried to move in front of me as if to protect me. I gently placed a hand on her shoulder and shook my head watching as she moved to the side.
"If you've got a problem with me Matthews just say it" I said quietly keeping my voice steady. From day one Eve always seemed to have something against me, yet I couldn't quite figure out what.
"The famous Harry Potter comes to Hogwarts and suddenly its announced that you're his sister" She sneered "Seems a little coincidental to me".
I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. I knew that eventually someone would assume that I had only revealed my actual last name to gain fame from my brother.
"Look I'm not about to stand here and argue with you" I watched her reaction carefully "I don't have anything to prove to you and would appreciate if you moved out of my way" she huffed and moved to the side sneering as I walked past into the dorm. I removed my quidditch robe and placed int carefully on the bed before sitting down next to it. Nugget squeaked snuggling into my side as if he knew something was wrong. I stroked the top of his head and took a deep breath to stop the tears that were once again threatening to fall. All I wanted was to be accepted for who I was, not what I was. My only fear was now the truth had been revealed was it going to affect Harry's experience of Hogwarts. I shook the imposing negative feelings off and changed out of my Quidditch robes and back into my usual school uniform. Nugget curled up on my pillow as I gave both him and Snowy a treat, before heading back out to the common room to meet Hannah. She gave me a sympathetic look as we made our way to the great hall.
"Are you okay Shell?" She asked quietly. I nodded afraid that if spoke the tears would begin streaming down my face. We walked in silence neither of us wanting to address what had just happened. As we made our way into the great hall, we saw the twins, Harry, Hermione, Ron and Angelina gathered around the Gryffindor table. At least if no one else in the school accepted me, I had this little group of friends to keep me sane.
