"Jane," she uses her accusatory tone, "how long have you been having contractions?"

Jane takes a step away from Maura. She casually shrugs as if it is a nonchalant conversation.

"I don't know."

"Jane," more sharply this time.

"I have been having contractions for several hours."

"At what point are you planning on going to the hospital?"

"I was assured that initial labor typically takes anywhere from…"

"How far apart are the contractions?"

Jane falls silent. She refuses to meet Maura's glance. Maura exhales, and gently takes Jane's hand.

"It's okay to tell me. I know that you are terrified right now, but I've got your back."

"I panicked. I hoped lying down would make them stop. I thought maybe they weren't real contractions. I…I think I have waited too long."

Maura tilts her head, "What makes you think that?"

"Aside from the nearly constant excruciating pain?"

"Yes."

"I want to push."

Maura's instincts kick in. She carefully ushers Jane into the master bedroom. Jane grimaces as Maura abandons her to collect supplies. She collects clean linens from the hall closet, and finds a medical bag tucked on the bottom shelf.

"Jane," she begins as she prepares her workspace, "Why is my back up medical kit in your closet?"

"I borrowed it."

"We will hash this out later. Right now I want you to take your pants off."

"Maura…"

"Jane we don't have time to argue."

Jane reluctantly removes her leisure wear, and awaits further instruction. It only takes Maura a few seconds to assess the situation.

"Your threshold for pain astounds me," Maura points out.

"I had convinced myself that home was the place to do this, but I want to go the hospital. The drugs sound really nice."

"There is no time. We are not going to make it to the hospital. Are you comfortable?"

"This is the epitome of discomfort," she grits her teeth.

"Is this a comfortable position?"

"No."

"Find a comfortable position quickly, because your baby isn't going to wait any longer."

Jane positions herself on all fours. Maura gently places one gloved hand on the small of her back.

"Nice even breathing, Jane. On the next contraction I want you to push."

Jane pushes effectively, and Maura frees the shoulders, and the rest of the body in one motion. She silently suctions the newborn. The brand new baby howls at the top of her lungs. The next several minutes are a complete blur.

Soon Jane finds herself holding her brand new daughter in the safety of her own home. Maura secures the placenta in a Tupperware container. After thorough handwashing she returns to the room.

"Who do I call next? EMS, or your mother?"

"I'm not going to the hospital… and…"

"I already called your mother. She is on her way."

"Who is with your babies?"

"Your brother, and Nina took over."

Maura attends to the banging on the front door. She pulls the door open, and quickly ushers Jane in.

"You said there was an emergency at this address. Maura what is going on?"

"The good news is everyone is fine."

"Who is fine?"

Maura's hives begin show, "Everyone."

"Whose house am I barging into?"

She tugs on her elbow, and leads her down the hall. Angela stops next to Jane.

"What are you doing here? What is…"she trails off seeing the bundle of towels in Jane's arms.

For the first time in her life Jane witnesses her mother fall utterly speechless. In an instant she feels her mother pressed against her elbow.

"This is why you've been keeping as much distance from me as humanly possible?"

"Ma…"

"I don't need an explanation, right now. Just let me see that baby."

Hours later Angela sits in a chair holding her granddaughter as Jane has finally succumbed to exhaustion. Maura is passed out on Jane's couch. Angela smiles as she holds the newborn in the glider in the nursery. She gently strokes the little one's cheek as she sleeps.

"You know I've been waiting on you for a long time. When your mom was a baby I used to stare at her for hours upon hours. You've got her long fingers. I thought she would grow up to be pianist. Let's be honest, she's more amazing that I ever imagined. So are you," she smiles as she gently presses a kiss against the newborn's skin.

In the morning light Maura slips out to offer the Rizzoli women some privacy. Jane wakes well after the sun rises. As her eyes adjust to the light her heart races. She feels disoriented, and dehydrated. Her hand instinctively floats to her midsection. Just as she begins to panic her mother appears in the doorway toting a brand new baby girl.

"Someone is looking for you," Angela offers Jane the bright eyed newborn who squirms beneath her swaddle.

"She's hungry."

Angela subtly nods, "Does she have a name?"

"Camry Frost Rizzoli. Camry after…" she trails off.

"Cameron Davies?"

"Yes."

"It is a perfect name for a perfect little girl."

"What if I am not up for this? I have no idea how to be anyone's mom."

Angela plants a warm kiss on Jane's forehead as Jane nurses her newborn.

"You've got this, and I've got your back. I just don't understand why you didn't tell me."

"I couldn't stand to watch anymore heartbreak reflected in your eyes if something went wrong."

"I know that you have been through more than your fair share. I'm not going to pry. I have seen you shut out the world because you've been hurt. Promise me those days are gone. Not for me… but for this precious little one who needs to be close to your heart."

"I promise to do my best."
