A Father's Day!
Summary: just a little drabble of Natsu bonding with his new born daughter. Featuring Natsu and Lucy.
This isn't about father's day, but it involves daddy Natsu and I thought what better time to post it!
Enjoy!
With the light, beating rhythm of her heart tapping against his chest, he inhaled that sweet, milky scent of the little one sprawled across him. The soft hum of her snores littered the cotton white walls of the bedroom they sat in, the ethereal glow of the full moon painting shadows across the oak beam floor.
He took in a deep breath, allowing that soothing smell to take over his senses for the umpteenth time that evening, before gently kissing the delicate head resting below his chin. Her body, like a radiator, seemed to melt all the tension from the day, and clear his mind until it was just the two of them—relaxed, undisturbed, and completely at peace.
He was enamoured, completely infatuated with the little being he'd known barely a week. From the tiny fingers that wrapped so daintily around his, to the sprig of salmon pink hair that stood to attention, no matter how hard Lucy tried to flatten it, and the beautifully silky, chocolate brown irises, that burned so deeply into his soul, had him in awe of the baby girl he'd welcomed into his life. She was his, and he adored her more than anything in the universe, nothing, and no one, could ever come between them…
Well, maybe there was one person…
"You know I can hear you over there," he said, smirking at the streak of blonde dashing from the doorway, "not to mention you're stinking out the room."
With a sheepish grin, the person in question surrendered her hiding place, in favour of creeping over to the pair, a blush tinting her cheeks, "I forget you can do that." Lucy said, hand reaching out to stroke the smooth strands of her daughters wild hair.
"No, wait…I think her hair looks kinda cute like that," he chuckled, spiking the locks back in similar fashion to his, "there. Now she looks perfect."
"She looks like you, you mean."
"Same thing."
"You're such an idiot, and if I'm being honest, I prefer your hair down, too."
"You do?" Eyes mooning, he'd not known that.
With a giggle, her hands came up to shield her mouth, not wanting to wake the slumbering newborn when she'd only just settled, "sure, it gives you a more wild look, I suppose."
"I was raised by a dragon."
"And I'm sure if he could see you now, Natsu, he'd be so proud of you," she said, running her fingers through his hair and letting his bangs drop forward.
"Yeah?" Glancing back at the bundle swaddled in his prized scarf, he contemplated the thought, grinning as if the words had come from Igneel himself, "I like to think so."
"Well, I know so," she said, pecking his forehead, before retreating out of the room, leaving the boy to his thoughts.
Lucy was right, Igneel would've been so proud of the little family they'd created together, and the thought felt bittersweet, knowing it he'd never get the chance.
Placing the baby back in her crib, he smoothed her petal soft cheek with his finger and smiled sadly, "I wish you could've met him, he would've been such an awesome Grandpa." Straightening himself up, Natsu treaded quietly over to the door and smiled to himself, thoughts of his childhood playing on his mind, "just like he was the best dad to me…g'night, Nasha."
